The Partridge Family Christmas Card

It's not  too early for that album. On the contrary, I've wanted to publish that blog much earlier. The Partridge Family Christmas Card was recorded in August, and released in November 1971, 50 years ago.. Fantastic recordings, great pop Christmas songs recorded in a true Partridge Family style. Masterfully played, great harmonies, and first of all wonderfully sung by 21 year old David Cassidy. Those classic Christmas songs in his interpretation still sound fresh and magical. These songs are played in my house during Christmas..

The album was recorded on August 25, 26 and 28, 1971. Musicians : Dennis Budimir, Louie Shelton, Max Bennett, Mike Melvoin, Hal Blaine. Backing vocals for David Cassidy ( and Shirley Jones) - Jackie Ward, John and Tom Bahler, Ron Hicklin. Tom Bahler - arrangement of vocal background. Produced by Wes Farrell.

Where to start..maybe with my number 1. And that  magical video provides a great setting for David's voice. Beautiful, dreamy and elegant video...

As everybody knows only 2 tracks were on the tv show, and only one song was an original..Tony Romeo's 'My Christmas Card To You'..'a  joy that never ends'. David  sings ..without any effort, so natural, just for us, like he was wishing us Merry Christmas personally. And there is such a tremendous joy in that song. Amazing . Tony and David, a songwriter and a singer, they should have recorded more together.

I love what someone ( the nick - Global Voyager) wrote about that song  on Amazon :

'I particulary fell in love with 'My Christmas Card To You' It really expresses everything one  usually wants to wish one's loved-ones at Christmas time, and it seems sadly never to have been promoted and played by radio stations during the Christmas period. I WISH THAT WOULD CHANGE.' .It should have been a Christmas standard

There is magic in that song. Howard Pattow (cmongethappy.com) wrote ;(..) it's one of the best Partridge Family songs ever recorded. David Cassidy's performance (on that song) is a delight, as he sings of the fields and farms and the  road to town'

That album was a huge hit. It was the best selling Christmas album in the USA during the Christmas season of 1971, it was number 1 album on the Billboard magazine's Special Christmas Album Sales Chart for four weeks, it was number 1 for the whole time the magazine published the chart that year...

My oldest grandson fav song from that album..

And at the end the song I've been listening to a lot this week..Just can't stop. And even that the lyrics is sad, it's obvious that David Cassidy had a lot of fun recording a bluesy version of that Christmas classic..
