I Think I Love You ..the book.

Image
The first David Cassidy's biographies appeared in the early 70s. They were written eg. by a man who knew DC in the 60s, or a journalist who interviewed him many times. There are a lot of books featuring DC or TPF because they are part of the music history and pop culture. In recent years fans have got really beautifully edited books written by Johnny Ray Miller - When We're Singing - The Partridge Family & Their Music , Louise Poynton - Cherish David Cassidy A Legacy Of Love, and Marlene Habib's books.' Cherish' got a book award and can be found in bookstores . It's great to see a book on DC among other musical biographies. At last. But ..those books are for fans..Even David's autobiographies which were bestsellers for a while (especially in the UK) are mostly for them. But there is one book read not only by fans.. It was probably in 2012. I was visiting my parents, and in my mum's bedroom I was looking through the books on the bedside table (I'm

Ruby & the Rockits..and some great concerts

David Cassidy's concerts in 2008..Just 19 in the US and Canada and 3 in the UK..Those American's concerts..Some at casinos, for audience not more than 500, some outdoor, one with Davy Jones ( in New York) There are some fans reviews on the DC website. That David Cassidy's voice was still amazing, intact, that he was an outstanding guitar player, that he talked, joked, and shook hands with fans..He played and sang great music..This is a video from one of those US's concerts (Thank you Tracey). This is just amazing, pure rock, how I wish I could have been there..and DC's performing and his commitment , 'Common Thief' sounds so exciting..And to think that some people called David Cassidy just a former teen idol or a singer for little girls..This is so unfair. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bX3EDszU2M8 While in the UK, in November, he appeared on some tv programmes, like always DC talked and smiled a lot, but he looked tired and tense. David was happy that woul

Oprah, Sweet Vendetta...2008 , a Year to Remember..

2008 started great, David Cassidy was welcomed by the screaming and enthusiastic audience on the most popular and influential tv show, The Oprah Winfrey Show. It was aired on February 12th..He sang ITILY at the beginning, and at the end 'I'll Meet You Halfway' in the new dance version.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JaTV0M_0Tc&t=726s David Cassidy's tv appearances..A lot of hard work , scripts and rehearsals and makeup, and talking about the same things all over again, I know this is showbusiness , and tv talk shows especially in the US are very popular . 'Oprah' still remains the highest - rated talk show in American tv history. In 2008 the programme was still aired nationally with an average audience above 7 million..For David his appearance on it meant that he  was a big star. He talked about his career, his loneliness while on top, TPF, the friendship with John Lennon, his children..The audience was very happy, dancing and singing with him..I don'

Let's Dance ..With David Cassidy

David Cassidy met thousands of people. Some of them shared his passion for horses or  music, some became friends ,  for a while or for life. We know that he could have been a very loyal friend. And sometime in 2006 he started working with a man, whom he later called his musical brother, a man who was by his side during those most difficult, last years of his life.  Craig J. Snider was born in Boston, received a degree in piano and composition, a composer, producer, remixer, songwriter, label owner and multi-instrumentalist. Very known producer and arranger on many productions that have topped Billboard's dance charts. In 2007 he remixed and co-produced very unusal David Cassidy's album , called 'David Cassidy Part II - The Remix'. Here is a really great dance version of 'C'mon Get Happy' from that record. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWRjWTM0SaI The CD was released in February 2007 by 180 Music and Target, and it was available only at the company's st

Yes, that song wasn't written by Johnnie Ray. That's amazing, the things I've learned because of David Cassidy, like the story of that particular song. It was a big hit with Johnnie Ray's version in 1951, and Jack Cassidy loved that song and sang it to his small son. And later it became a very special concert song for DC. He recorded 'Cry' for his 'Then And Now' album in 2001, but first of all , David's concerts' versions of 'Cry' were always very moving and he thanked his dad for introducing that song to him. Here is DC singing it in 2008. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwsAPYYFlf8 This is one of the rare DC's songs I haven't liked at the beginning..I'm still not a fan of 'Walk Away Renee' or 'More Than Words', but I know it can change, it's happened before with some other songs , eg. with Cry. But let's return to 2006. David Cassidy played only 20 concerts that year. Some of them were performed in di

When I was searching for a good title for today's post I've thought about that old TPF's song from Season1. It's scary how so many songs were about David , or mayby they were just very universal. He made some important decisions in 2005 to find peace and balance in his life..So the song first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNlMn46gvRU At the end of January 2005 , according to an American poll, David was announced as tv's greatest American teen idol ever. The best in history. He beat Ricky Nelson, John Travolta and Johnny Depp. Whatever he did he couldn't make people forget DC, a superstar , he was  an epitome of a teen idol forever stuck in time. He became a pop icon from the 70s. But it wasn't David's problem in 2005, he was concentraiting more on his private life that year. Mayan King, I've already written about that horse and DC's high expectations .' If I could win the Kentucky Derby, there would be nothing on the face of earth . other

Keith Partridge's love life. Keith and girls, on the set and those who watched TPF every week. They dreamed that maybe one day they would  make him happy, that it would be like in Storybook Love. 'One day we will be more than friends' 'a fantasy world..'. that was the message for  girls - buy all teen mags, all albums, and be ready, because maybe one day... Keith was unhappy in love, couldn't have a steady girl friend, had so many disappointments , not without a reason of course, he was supposed to be available all the time. With each episode, each new girl, fans found out what girls had a chance..Masterpiece of manipulation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp1oWApvGMY This is a post about some actresses who played Keith's love interests. Some of them became David Cassidy's girls for a while. A teen idol should be avaliable too. Season Hubley, born in 1951, in New York, she played  a princess, sweet but also adventurous, who made Keith kidnapped her, and

The Hammersmith Apollo , London

Amazing building, art deco Grade II listed, opened in March 1932 as a cinema. It was called different names  - The Gaumont Palace at the beginning, and now Eventim Apollo. Whatever the name , David Cassidy played there several times, another important place for his fans in London   In 2004 David Cassidy had another successful , sold out the UK tour. He started in Manchester on April 22nd and  he played 12 concerts. On May 7th he performed at Hammersmith Apollo, that concert was recorded , and later DVD was released called David Cassidy Greatest Hits Live. A  great concert, DC played his TPF's and own hits , but also Hush, 3 The Beatles' songs and Gimme Shelter. Sharon Angulot made a great video with Rolling Stones' and DC's live version. I love it , it just amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POvZ2uTBcBk&list=RDPOvZ2uTBcBk&start_radio=1&rv=POvZ2uTBcBk&t=9&t=0 The DVD also had an interview with DC called Being David Cassidy https://www.youtube.c

2003 and 2004 were another very busy years with a lot of  projects. Sometimes it's hard to keep up with David Cassidy. Concerts, tv roles and tv appearances, horses and charities. He looked so happy and satisfied...Another acting role - a happy David Cassidy. Malcolm In The Middle, it was an extremely popular tv series, known all over the world. Also at my home. My teenage daughters loved watching it together. I remember bursts of laughter behind the closed doors..I didn't watch it because those years between 2002 -2007 were the most difficult in my life , and they are like a big black hole in my memory. I remember only pain , and I really can understand why DC didn't play songs from his RCA albums..It was just hard to remember. Anyway later I've seen this episode many times, so funny, always mades me laugh, really great acting. David was fantastic as a star of Las Vegas , Boone Vincent. That episode was aired on November 2, 2004, on NBC. David Cassidy : 'I drew fro

River In Time..will be at the end of that post, but first something I've wanted to write about many times. The Partridge Family was a very popular tv series, so nothing unusal that a lot of very known actors appeared as  guest stars. I want to write about some of them, maybe not the most famous, but very important for the series or just about  people whom I like. Because there were so many truly outstanding actors on the set of TPF, I will write about them from time to time. Today - Gordon Jump, Alan Oppenheimer and Bert Convy. Gordon Jump. (1932-2003), an actor who played in 7 TPF's episodes..Someone difficult to remember, each time it was just a very short appearance - he was the man with a transistor radio in the 1st episode, in 'Tale Of Two Hamsters' the man who agreed selling hamsters with TPF's albums, the father whose daughter wanted to buy a house with Keith in it , the cop who met Keith and Danny in 'Partridge Papers' , the minister in 'The Mod

How Can I Be Sure ? Of Course I Can

Image
And not only me , we are sure that David Cassidy was a great singer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7DgEqMINzY That night, On BBC 5 , on national radio, DC's version of 'How Can I Be Sure' was voted the best.. It was during the daily or rather nightly programme, called 'Sounds" which runs from 1am to 5am , presented by famous  British radio presenter, writer and publisher, Dotun Adebayo. The topic of the last programme was -  love songs with the question mark. The listeners proposed their fav songs, among them such known as 'Where The Broken Hearts Go' or 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow'. And when DC's How Can I Be sure was suggested by  one of the listeners, everybody in the studio started talking about DC and that song's versions - about the original (Young Rascals) and Dusty Springfied's . Let's listen to Young Rascals : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwolvKdwpg4 They talked how handsome DC was and  that everybody had a crush

It's difficult to find words..bc this is rather emotional . I'm  writing my 100th post. It's amazing, so many..And people read it, my blog on David Cassidy.. I'm going to write how it's started , and also give links to some songs DC  wrote or co-wrote..and the first one is the real gem, song which should have been a huge hit, sth really special, the best collaboration of DC and those oudstanding musicians who played as TPF - Hal Blaine, Mike Melvoin, Larry Knechtel, Max Bennett, Denis Budimir, John Bahler, Tom Bahler , Jackie Ward, Ron Hicklin and..Wes Farrell.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGrdlR1fKr4 It was my very close English friend B., who said in 2019 - 'You are still so interested in DC..why don't you start writing a blog about him..' 'Me??  A blog? In English?? No way..". There are so many fans, who know much more than me and it's one thing to write in English with friends on whatsapp (even everyday and about everything) and qui

White City , Hammersmith Park And David Cassidy

Image
White City. When I first heard about it , I thought what a strange, romantic, mysterious name for a place in London. Why was it called White City..I had no idea.. Of course I heard about it because of David's last London concert in 1974. For many years I didn't know anything more, and where it was that White City ? Hammersmith ? Shepherd's Bush? Fulham.?? Really everything looked so complicated..Now I know why White City is such an  important part of the legacy trail for David Cassidy. White City was built in the early 1900s as an exhibition site. It was constructed in steel and concrete and painted white, hence the name White City, so simple , nothing romantic. The stadium was added for the 1908 Olympic Game.. In 1910 a major exhibition was held in celebration of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance and also 2 gardens were made with materials imported from Japan. This exhibition was a great event, and one of those gardens, called The Garden Of Peace was converted into a more traditio

David Cassidy did so many things in 2003 that I've just had no idea what title of that post would have been the best..Let's start from a very interesting, serious  tv role. He played in the tv drama called 'Agency'. The serial followed the inner-workings of the CIA and its war with Al Queada. One of the producers was Shaun Cassidy. The serial had a very impressive cast : Beau Bridges, Will Patton, Gloria Reuben. But 'Agency' suffered because of  a very bad timing. The pilot, about the planned lethal attack on western countries was to premiere at the CIA headquarters on September 18, 2001. The episode with DC was called 'War,Inc.' and was one of the last episodes of that unlucky serial. It was aired on CBC on April 26, 2003. David played a wealthy CEO, who lost over 200 employees on 9/11. He was very convincing in the role of that hunted man, Everett Price. He also looked just fabulous , mature and very handsome..and his voice..what a shame he didn't

If I had ever met David Cassidy..

Image
Of course probably I would have just stared and said..'Eeeee..Mr Cassidy..eee... I'm a fan' . Very original. But really, if I had ever met him I would have asked  some questions, even probably I'd have known the answers. Not questions about his private life, because private is private, but about choices he'd made regarding his career. Question 1. Why when he started playing gigs again after 2000, he hardly played any songs from albums recorded for RCA in the 70s? Yes, he played 'I Write The Songs', it was one of his greatest hits of course, and he played ( sometimes) 'Common Thief', but why not the others?  Of course I know that every entertainer has a set of songs he or she performs live, and changes are rearly made. A concert is a serious thing, a lot of people are involved in it, there are rehearsals, and fans buy tickets to hear the songs they know and love. It's a business, a job.  Recently I've made some set lists of DC's concerts,

Bali Ha'i..or What David Cassidy Really Loved Doing

Image
There is not such a place as Bali Ha'i, it's a mystical island, visible on the horizon, but not reachable, and the song about it, a song  about dreams is from 1949 , from a musical called South Pacific ,written by Richard Rogers & Oscar Hammerstein II. It was one of the songs David Cassidy knew and loved from an early childhood, and he made a great cover of it in 1973. One of my fav David Cassidy's songs.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtApiCz_GFw This is a post about dreams.. I believe that we don't really change during our lifetime. For example as a child I loved exactly the same things as now. I loved listening to and telling stories, books, music and water..Any kind of water ..the smallest pool, a river, a pond ,a lake, a sea or an ocean..I was the happiest left alone ,somewhere near water, with a book and a transistor radio..Now it's the same, only not a radio but a good headphones. And I believe that when we want to know what a person loves doing, we sho

To Australia With Love..Again..

Image
David Cassidy  was in Australia for the first time in 1974. Between March 2 and 16 he played 6 very memorable concerts..He gave a lot of interviews, met with fans, and on April 22nd a doc called 'David Cassidy ; To Australia With Love was aired. This is the best copy of that film I know about.. It's just amazing.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XH9z0D9rTpQ&t=716s 2002 was the year of the 'Rock Me Tour' . David Cassidy started in February, played in the U.S. (25 concerts), in the UK (10 concerts ) and after more than 28 years he performed in  Australia, in November  (8 concerts). In 2002 he travelled there twice . The first time  in September (16-20) , it was a promotional visit , with a lot of  press and tv interviews. 'Then And Now' was released in Australia on September 9th. This is one of those September's tv appearances. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgyiJ8NYyAY On September 20th DC appeared on Good Morning Australia, the host was Bert Newton, t

'We Wish This Could Be Forever'

Image
Maybe in 2001 David Cassidy didn't play 7 shows a week, but instead he travelled a lot. In the U.S., and that year he also flew to the UK several times. He recorded his album at Decca studio in Wimbledon, he took part in tv programmes and last but not least, he had a sold out mini tour. Let's start from 2 great David Cassidy's tv performances in the UK.   He couldn't sing his great hit live on this legendary programme in the 70s.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTk8CgLbcQc What an amazing timeless pop classic, Wes Farrell knew how to write a hit..And here is DC enthusiastically received on another English programme..This is my number 1 of his live  performances from 2001, how I wish I could have been in audience. DC at his best. Magic..I love this . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=We_T5LPBuFM A lot was written about DC's concerts in 2001, in the U.S. and in the UK. That he still looked great, sang very well, David said that at last there was a balance in his life

The Phoenix Theatre London Plaque, written by Sharron

Image
A very special post today..thank you so much Sharron   This is the story of how the Phoenix Theatre London Plaque came to fruition. In May 2018 , Sharron  wondered if it would be possible to create a memorial in David’s memory through her Great Britain Group. So she posted to her group to ask if anyone thought there should be a memorial or tribute for David in the UK . Sharron asked which theatre David played in Blood Brothers Tracey Wright said the Phoenix Theatre , Gillian Priestley agreed. Sharron wasted no time and immediately wrote to the theatre . On the 1st May 2018 Ross Williams from the theatre replied that they would love to have David’s plaque at the theatre . With permission granted from the theatre that was all that was required to have a plaque at the theatre for David . Sharron immediately enlisted the help of 7 other ladies that she knew as  fans to help her with it all . Camillia Hoare, Anita O’Neil, Gillian Priestly, Tracey Wright , Maggie Thornley, Josie Knox, Jayne
