'Let David Cassidy's Life Inspire You'

Image
I couldn't have wished myself the better entry at the end of this year. What a great article by Linda Higgins.  But first a song, there is a connection with today's entry. David Cassidy still making us happy. And I'm always happy while listening to this song. I especially adore DC's voice when he was in his late 20s. More mature, rich and deep, even more (if it's possible) dreamy and soulful. The lyrics is about lost love, but I have an impression he really enjoyed recording it. He sang it so effortlessly, almost like he did it without any rehearsals, but of course David Cassidy had an enormous talent, but talent is nothing without hard work, and we know that he was always a perfectionist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLZwkXK3ut0 Btw. how I wish someone made a video with this song, with DC's pics from Man Undercover, Police Story or even Fantasy Island, but not from TPF. David Cassidy recorded it in 1979. Yesterday while looking for something on the website I...

Stop Me In My Tracks David's Songs

Image
Or the 4th anniversary of my blog, btw it's called 'David Cassidy Being Together', and at first some people thought that the author was not an unknown fan from Poland, but a lucky lady who wanted to share some info on her secret life with David Cassidy. My first entry was extremely popular because of this misunderstanding.  But of course the title of the blog was from the wonderful Tony Romeo's song, recorded by DC for his first solo album.. The idea from the start was that we fans, would share our love and info about David Cassidy. 'Being together is my kind of fun..we wanted to share for a while a tear or a smile.' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFCpbdtwQac I must say that I'm very proud of myself, and in my wildest dreams I wouldn't have suspected that I would be writing a blog about David Cassidy for so long. And people would keep reading it. Sure there were breaks in my writing, a few times I thought about finishing it for good, and even once nearl...

The Entry Number 900

Image
Let's start with a song. I've listened to it in my car in the morning and I think it's a perfect song for celebrating the entry number 900 of my blog. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiIrTJOLquU It's just a number, but it's amazing really, 900 entries after 4 years of writing about David Cassidy, his music, his life, his legacy and about his fans.  Why I write? I know why and when I started, it was David's 'fault'. I thought quite a lot about writing a blog in the fall of 2020, but it was just an idea, nothing more, but on December 22nd when I actually started it, I didn't think about DC at all. It was one of the worst days of my life, I was sitting later in my room in a kind of stupor, it was midnight, snow was falling heavily outside, and I couldn't even bring myself to take off my coat. And in one moment I looked at this pic you can see today, it was (and still is) on my bedroom wall, and suddenly I heard a voice in my head, 'Get up and st...

Tell Me It's Not True / William Russell

Image
But first 'Sooner or Later'. This song is like written for David Cassidy. He seduces us so easily with his voice..We don't have the video from this live performance, just one pic, but we can very easily imagine David on stage (it was in 1996), singing..'There's nowhere to hide..' https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/DiscographyPages/Sondheim%20A%20Celebration-Sooner%20Or%20Later.mp3 Amazing. A great song of course, Stephen Sondheim got an Academy Award  for 'Sooner or Later' in 1991, and Madonna sang it during the ceremony. A kind of jazz ballad which could have been written and performed in a night club in the 30s. DC was very comfortable with that style and sang those songs from Great American Songbook with such ease and sensitivity.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiIrTJOLquU&t=17s knows I think it's very important to write about David Cassidy's music. From all decades of his career. We have recently lost our weekly David Cassidy Show on ...

Sing Me / Tony Romeo

Image
The song first and a very nice video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpi27BrpuFY&t=4s I thought about 'Sing Me' yesterday, when I read that fans, in very short time, had donated the amount required to place a historical marker at Colgate Field, in West Orange, New Jersey, in honor of David Cassidy's memory. Just wonderful idea, and big thanks and congratulations for every person involved in it. Barb Schlamp Collentine, Karen Ranieri, Gina Gelardo, Erin Sullivan, Margie Jackson and Anette Trotta Flynn and Eilene Shimi and Robyn Smith and other wonderful our DC sisters.  There were discussions in the past if David would have wanted himself those plaques, benches, stars..Somehow I'm 100 % sure that if he had known about this tribute, in this place, in a town he lived as a young boy, he would have been very happy. 'Oh, my days come back to me..back to me..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_XDYPfJAmc So I listened to 'Sing Me' yesterday, and of course t...

P.S. I Love You..

Recenty I've written a lot about Lord Montagu and The Beaulieu Tribute to David. But of course we've got another tribute in November, in Liverpool. In a very special place.  Strawberry Fields, we all know that name, immortalized by John Lennon in one of his the most famous songs.  There was a Salvation Army children's home in the grounds known as Strawberry Fields, and John's aunt Mimi's house backed on to. John Lennon used to play there when he was a kid. And now, since 2019, the place is open to the public and people from all over the world keep coming there. There are a lot of attractions, among them the John Lennon 'Imagine' piano. It was bought in 2000 for 3 million US dollars by...George Michael, who was a great The Beatles fan, and it was always George's intention that the piano should be in Liverpool. There is a great video on YT where you can see the place, some great John's and George's pics, and the famous piano.. https://www.youtube.c...

Looking For David..

Image
I'm still in London, but just have a free hour, so want to write a few words on that special day..It hasn't been easy today, for us, the fans who met in London on that 5th anniversary. Demanding weather, wind or rain, or both..The Phoenix Garden..it will look better in spring (hope so), The Hammersmith Park closed from the side we've come. It was symbolic really that in spite of everything we kept walking and remembering this amazing man, David Cassidy.. ttps://youtu.be/Wy6cLVQUTUU In White City I couldn't stopped thinking about thousands of fans who were there on the day David played his concert in May 1974. And now after 48 years, the stadium doesn't exist anymore and just  several of middle aged fans have arrived  today. So what will be next with us and our idol, and his legacy.. https://youtu.be/6eYjWoFQKu0 Time..better not to think about it. But it was very optimistic to meet and talk, talking about DC with a fellow fan it's an amazing experience, for me at...

Once a Teen Idol..

Image
We've had a lot of really amazing new updates on the website recently. A new tribute, a new tv appearance and a new radio interview. Everything has taken a lot of time, and we are so grateful for those fans who worked on them and shared that new material with us. Maybe a song first. My number 1 video (recently). I don't know how many times I've watched it. To be there..Just amazing and so exciting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbdootiYryo So I've checked how our new updates going on the website. What fans think about them, maybe they have an additional info (and they have in one case). But I wasn't prepared for that. Forget Lord M. and Beaulieu tribute or the DC interview for Canadian MTV, or the radio BBC 1985 interview.  The June 1973 Tiger Beat Spectacular magazine. The link to it (scans) with one of the DC's posters from it.  More than 14k views, nearly 2k comments, and more than 1,3 shares..Wow. Once a teen idol..I haven't read comments, I know what ...

David Cassidy, Lord M. and Sharron

Image
The story of the latest tribute to David Cassidy is so extraordinary, uplifting..like a ray of sunshine in that difficult month, November.  I just can't find words to describe my feelings. David Cassidy's concert tour in March 1973 and his stay at Beaulieu. David remembered by the information board..His name and the year of birth and death. That visit  took place 49 years ago. This tribute makes me sad and happy at the same time. It's very emotional seeing it. A song. About sunshine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er3mY-lWdlA The David Cassidy's legendary concert tour in Europe in March 1973. The main problem was security of course. In February 1972, Dorchester where he stayed was besieged by fans, and in September 1972 he lived on a yacht. The Heathrow Airport authorities had put a ban on any announcements of expected arrivals of pop stars. It took a lot of effort to find a safe place for him while he was in the UK. The first concerts of that tour were in Germany, he w...

'I'm In Constant Pursuit Of Romance..'

Image
said David Cassidy during the Sky Channel interview, aired on February 22, 1985. We don't have this interview on the website, only not the best copy on YT. This is something what worries me, a little bit kind of mess on that particular page of the DC Official Wbsite, the David Cassidy tv appearances in 1985.  I'm not sure that : 1. we have everything listed, 2. the dates of appearances are correct, I think we also should try to have the names of all the broadcasters, journalists, music presenters, whatever we call them, who talked with DC on those programs.. But of course I know that everything needs time, and our webmaster is so busy publishing daily updates. Anyway there are 47 programs from 1985 on the Website, most of them were made in the UK. This particular interview, I'm not sure, but I think it was Gary Davies who talked with David. Of course I didn't watch this interview in 1985 and my knowledge of the UK TV is very limited, but I think it was him. Maybe someon...

In My Life / John Lennon, Paul McCartney

Image
It's  still very hot, but days much shorter and we all are waiting for autumn. And the autumn (or fall as DC'd have said) makes me think about  another November 21st, that day approaching so fast..5 years. That's a lot of time. What we managed to do for his legacy..Why we can't work together, be united, we the DC's fans. Not so many of us left. What can we do to make this day special.. And while Ive been wondering I got a ready entry from my FB friend, Pauline Tombs. It seems she's been thinking about the same as me..   Let's first listen to the The Beatles' 'In My Life', that wonderful song loved and still love by millions all over the world. The song so important for David Cassidy, all his life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqpysaAo4BQ Pauline Tombs : We have a David Cassidy connection with the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral with a brick on the Peoples Path, laid for David's love of the Beatles, John Lennon, Blood Brothers and his performi...

Remember Me / Alan Tarney

Image
This entry was meant to appear yesterday, but I forgot about everything because of that amazing, wonderful surprise we had in the evening.  Fil Henley from the Wings of Pegasus recorded and released  an episode about David Cassidy !!! So far nearly 10k viewers saw the Fil's brilliant analisys of the DC's hit, 'Lyin To Myself.'  The yesterday's show title - 'WAS DAVID CASSIDY ONE OF THE MOST MISUNDERSTOOD MUSIC ARTIST !!! Wow, at last..and those comments, reading them nearly made me cry. Such love and so many people appreciated David in the past in spite of his teen idol image. There were also some comments from people who had no idea that DC'd recorded music after 1974..Just look and listen and read for yourself. Thank you Fil Henley, and of course thank you Stancy Merwin. it's because of her everything was possible. Thank you so much! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHIyW75FYlk   I'm still so excited..Wonderful. But let's return to 'Remember...

David Cassidy, an actor or a singer ?

Image
We love to discuss it from time to time. What David preferred? Being an actor or a singer? Of course he wanted to be an actor at the beginning..but later?  What roles he could have played? Luke Skywalker ?..Danny from Grease ?, the names of the films are mentioned - 'Ghost', 'Pretty Woman', 'An Officer and a Gentelman'..I don't know. Personally I think he would have been great in 'Sting' and 'Great Gatsby'. The Robert Redford's characters. Both charming and on the hook with the law especially Jay Gatsby, mysterious, complex, romantic, David would have been in 'Great Gatsby' (and looked in those wonderful clothes) sensational.  Like on Fantasy Island, when he played Jeremy Todd. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/FantasyIsland1983.html Was he a great actor? I don't know, I can't be objective, I usually can't take my eyes off him, a film, a tv episode or the plot is not important. He showed so potential in h...

'A Puka Shell Poster Boy'

Image
Today's blog has started with my impatience. The London Music Walk Of Fame.  Yesterday quite a lot of people signed the petition and I thought we would achieve 1000 signatures very quickly. But I was wrong. Where are the fans? Those who belonged to the David Cassidy Fan Clubs, the official ones and those run by fans themselves.. So I've browsed Internet searching for some info, (aimlessly really), and suddenly I discover how many articles are actually about David Cassidy a fashion icon. His feather cut and puka shells. And ..surprise, surprise, quite a lot of men admit years later that they thought that David was cool. Like that guy.. https://stevehigginslive.com/2015/01/24/david-cassidy-and-a-haircut-in-1975/ And of course the feather/shag cut is in vogue again (it was in the 90s too) and also nearly every article about the 70s hairstyles  mention David. https://hair-and-makeup-artist.com/mens-1970s-hairstyles/ The same can be said about pukka shells. In an article from 2019 ...

Being a Fan. In the UK

Image
Being a David Cassidy's fan in the 70s..in the UK. Now those lucky ones who saw him in concerts in Manchester, London or Glasgow, waited for him at Heathrow or Luton, besieged The Dorchester or tried to get on the deck of Ocean Sabre, now they can write and submit their stories with The Museum Of Youth Culture. Sharron Liddle contacted the Museum and they said they want and need David Cassidy memorabilia. It's a great, fantastic news.  https://museumofyouthculture.com/submit/ Fans can now submit photos, flyers, ticket stubs and write how they loved David Cassidy and his music. But will they do it ? And how many? And why I'm skeptical, sorry. I wish I wasn't.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IasELb7iHo I have some very good English friends, we talk every day, we've met in person, we know everything about each other, we are real friends. In 2017 and 2018 they told me a lot of stories about being a DC fan. Sometimes it wasn't easy, especially for one of them who l...

He Always Kept Me Forever 15..

Image
This is something I appreciate a lot. That because of David Cassidy and my blog, I 'meet' so many wonderful people. Some of them also in person, like my friend B., whom I visited in  May this year (Wiltshire), or Diane, who showed me 'her' Cambridge. I can also say something about Luton because of Doreen. And there are many more amazing people. We, David's fans are like family, (and we quarrel too). Some fans write comments about my blogs and many times their words are so moving or stick in my head..But the song first, I think it suits today's blog the best https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jYkM03IZnk Seena Rubinstein wrote : 'We grew up with David and for a time grew older with David. We will never experience being old with David. He always kept me forever 15.'.  Yes. So true. She's found such right words for our sorrow and our gratitude for him. I didn't grow up with David, but watching old videos and his pics, listening to his music, I can imag...

A Biography. For And Against

Image
A song first. Someone wrote in comment : ' A voice that should have been heard and appreciated so much more.' Absolutely. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kerwrHS-Cqg I've got a lot of feedback after my yesterday's blog called 'Do We Need A David Cassidy's Biography'. Thank you so much for your comments, they are food for thought for me and a valuable lesson. First of all I want to write that this discussion is purely academic. I think I haven't been precise with this word, 'biography'. but I can't think about other one. An encyclopedia ? A lexicon ? What I'd like to read is more a book of the David's achivements together with his biography. The most important things (biography), but nevertheless. An attempt to asses his personality,  his career and his music.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Z-aBmyCX10 So why and for whom? And what ? 1. For fans. Because in spite that we write every day about DC, there are still fans who don't kn...

Do We Need A David Cassidy's Biography?

Image
A new one. But first let me tell you how I'm happy that we've achived more than 900 signatures. Our PETITION. And when I write 'our' I mean that this is our common cause, all the David's fans. The London Music Walk Of Fame. Maybe that number doesn't look impressive, but there is so much work behind it, and the fans write wonderful and moving comments. We are doing great. Long Live Cass! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBVrg6dO7TI&t=26s   So do we need a new David Cassidy's biography? We have quite a lot of the old ones. The first were written in the early 70s. James Gregory who knew DC as a teenager wrote 'The David Cassidy Story' in 1973, and Carol Deck wrote her DC's biography even earlier. Of course countless teen mags printed his biography many times with a lot of details. In which hospital he was born, and the name of the doctor, the exact time of the removal of his gall bladder.. everything.  In 1974 DC thought for a while about writing...

"It wasn't supposed to end this way..'

Image
Kim Carnes' words after David Cassidy died. And : 'David had the best laugh, the best smile and the biggest heart' . She has birthday today, this wonderful, beautiful woman. A girl from California, born in 1945, a singer and a songwriter. I first heard about Kim in the 80s when she had an enormous world success with 'Betty Davis Eyes'. It was even a hit in Poland, in 1981 we had strike after strike, we fought with communist regime, and there were only empty shelves in our shops, but I remember the song was played on our radio. It was so different, dark and mysterious, a great tune and that amazing voice. I later saw how she looked ..That wonderful, blond hair, a woman with class. I always wanted to look like that.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPOIS5taqA8 She was really successful and even took part in one of the most famous recordings in the history of pop music. 'We Are The World' was recorded in January 1985 and Kim was there too, along some of the mos...

Wish You Were Here / Harold Rome

Image
First the original..the one Jack Cassidy taught his small son, David. Recorded in 1952. 70 years ago.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7boNC9Sbv34 65 years later at the end of his life David Cassidy knowing that not much time was left, was struggling to record it. We write quite often that we still miss David, especially on the 21st of each month, it's scary how many passed. But I've thought that, you know, I've come to terms with it, time is a great healer. And I never met him in real life, even never saw him in concert. I'm just a fan.  So David Cassidy is like any other person we knew and liked or loved, and we cherish those memories and we smile thinking about the past, but we don't cry, we are just grateful. Like when I pass by the block of flats in the center of Warsaw where I used to live and was so happy many years ago. I always smile. But sometimes an old song on the radio, a painting or pic, even a stranger who looks like an old, dear, late friend..make us...
