"I Get Very Emotional When I Come Back to New York'

Image
.. said DC during the concert in New York in 2013.  Yes, I haven't forgotten about my entry 'DC in New York. Broadway. Part 1.', actually I'm working on a new page, called 'David Cassidy in New York'; it's not easy because I've never been there myself, only hope to go in summer, but I treat writing about DC in New York as a part of my preparation for that trip.  But let's start with something else, a song, not David's, but there are connections, and since I've decided to take part in July celebration in West Orange, I play this album very often. Our own Polish Basia (Trzetrzelewska) recorded this hit album in 1990. It's called 'London Warsaw New York'. Two David's favourite cites, and my home town.   In 1984 Basia had quite a success in the UK, with Matt Bianco, she lived in London at the time. Alan Tarney asked her to do backing vocals for the title song of DC's 'Romance' album. I read an interview with her, from ...

'David Cassidy. Yes, This David Cassidy'

It's really impressive how many new articles are published every day on The David Cassidy Official Website.  Thank you Jane, thank you Lanie, Marjon, Carmen and other fans who keep sharing their precious mags with us. Taking scans, searching for new info. We are so grateful. And it's amazing how all the time new items appear. Each one update adds something to our knowledge of DC, his life and career. Thanks to them we can appreciate his legacy even more, we can also understand better the choices he made.  And of course that way we can learn a lot about the music industry and pop culture. Recently Jane has posted several notes, adverts and reviews, about DC's single (and video), 'Lyin' To Myself, published in 1990 on the magazine called 'Hitmakers'. Let's watch David's great video with 'Lyin' To Myself' once more. Btw. it was made in the terminal of New York's Grand Central Station. One more place in NY connected with David. https://ww...

Growing Up In New Jersey, And David's Sense Of Humor (Again)

Image
I haven't yet read all the articles published recently on the website, it's impossible. The sheer number of them and the new info.  I wish we had some kind of index to be able to find quickly what's in each article on the website. There are so many of them (articles), and even for someone like me, a former librarian and a DC maniac, it's became difficult recently to find something, and  it takes a lot of time.  Eg in one of those new/old articles DC's shared some memories about growing up in New Jersey. Maybe this is not something interesting for an average fan, but I love such details. And if we'd had an index, this article would have got 2 keywords - 'Concerts 2000's' and 'West Orange' or 'Growing Up - West Orange'. And it could be so easy to find it again, anytime it would be needed. Anyway during that phone interview DC was asked, 'What do you remember about growing up in New Jersey?'  And he said, 'I have a lot of gre...

The Comment

Image
But first Happy Birthday Timothy B. Schmit (btw B. is for..Bruce).  As always, I'm late a little bit, he had birthday on October 30, and now (difficult to believe), he is 75. He nearly died 10 years ago because throat and neck cancer. Ex Poco and The Eagles of course, a songwriter, vocalist and bassist. The DC's friend..once. David recorded his song in 1979, better than the Poco's original (in my opinion of course). I love this song and first of all the David's interpretation. It's so ..cool and laid-back. Wonderful. One day I will make a video with that song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwPdyNVp3oI So the comment. Maybe I shouldn't write about it, blame.. the leaves. We've had a great weather today and I've been fighting with the leaves in my garden. I have two huge oak trees,  I have no choice..So I've been raking, enjoying the company of some squirrels, woodpeckers and my own stray cat. (The cat lives in my garden, let me feed him, and sometim...

Some Very Old Articles

Image
I spent quite a lot of time yesterday trying to make scans of very old articles from the 70s. They were about David of course. The Times, Daily Mail, Daily Mirror and The Sun. I brought them from England in May. I got them from my very good English friend. There is an interesting story how B. got them. She doesn't remember the year, probably 1974, she was in London visiting her grandparents, at the time was going one of the many national postal strikes (probably), anyway a lot of not delivered newspapers lay on the street. And she took them home and cut the articles about DC. Now it's not easy to decide from what newspapers some articles were. Or the exact day..A kind of detective work for me.. Maybe a song from 1974. The White City concert recording. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNGVKrFL2fg Those scans. That was hard, also because I have a new laptop, and it has taken me a lot of time to install everything. Now I can appreciate even more the scans Carmen has made, so many d...

David as a Spooky Kid

Image
Someone called that the DC's character on 'Joey's Here', the 'Matt Houston's episode. David Cassidy played a genius and a dreamer. John Gordon Boyd. But a song first. DC performing 'Gettin' It In The Street'. I thought about that program watching Matt Houston. How he changed from 1976.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1X6JK-ncfrM Watching 'Joey's Here' turned out to be very useful. First of all, I've noticed that there is a wrong date on the website. December 1983, and  it should be December 1982, the first season of that tv series, and it makes a difference. For me at least, I always thought it was the DC's last role before he appeared again on Alfred Hitchcock on May 1988. But really the last role was on Fantasy Island, January 1983, nearly a year difference. When you write about someone on daily basis verified information and dates are a priority matter.  Of course the website is huge, errors are inevitable. I'm dyslextic, ...

'I'm In Constant Pursuit Of Romance..'

Image
said David Cassidy during the Sky Channel interview, aired on February 22, 1985. We don't have this interview on the website, only not the best copy on YT. This is something what worries me, a little bit kind of mess on that particular page of the DC Official Wbsite, the David Cassidy tv appearances in 1985.  I'm not sure that : 1. we have everything listed, 2. the dates of appearances are correct, I think we also should try to have the names of all the broadcasters, journalists, music presenters, whatever we call them, who talked with DC on those programs.. But of course I know that everything needs time, and our webmaster is so busy publishing daily updates. Anyway there are 47 programs from 1985 on the Website, most of them were made in the UK. This particular interview, I'm not sure, but I think it was Gary Davies who talked with David. Of course I didn't watch this interview in 1985 and my knowledge of the UK TV is very limited, but I think it was him. Maybe someon...

The Bravo Poster

Image
But the song first. The fabulous "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams', wrote by David and Sue..I've been listening to it today and dreaming a little bit. To be 40 again and have a good dancing partner. Because this song is soo wonderful ..paso doble. It starts slowly and later that passion and drama..Magic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXTNpuu74IA Maybe I shouldn't write this blog today, but I can't help myself. It started from thinking about our petition. The London Music Walk Of Fame. So hard work, we make videos (Sharron), we write about DC and his music legacy, we have support (Tony Prince, David Hamilton, Anthea Turner, Keith Atack) ..and we have 845 signatures. What can we do more? So I've decided to have a look at The Website's FB page. What David's fans like reading. Which updates are the most popular?  One more great dancing number. A quick - step this time. I love it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJZRRekOYqk And I've had some big surprises. F...

David Cassidy In Print. Record Mirror. Part 1

Image
The David Cassidy Official Website, that amazing online library, the source of info on David Cassidy. Recently our webmaster Jane has told me that on the website we have - 12380 pages, 25775 photos and 1023 audio/video files. Can you imagine..Unbelievable, and there are still a lot to add, and nearly everyday sth new appears. I know the website pretty well, but of course not everything, and there are some sections I know better and some not so much. Eg there are still quite a lot of the DC's radio interviews I've never listened to. But I can say that I've read most of the articles.  But maybe a song first. My younger daughter has told me today that the Elton John's remix of 'Cold Heart' is extremely popular now and she enjoys listening to it. And I've told her about Elton and David's friendship and how many, many years ago they performed together on stage. And about 'I'm Still Standing'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49kTmfgthmE Life is not...

Addicted To David..

Image
I'm working on a big project for the website. And while doing it I have to check a lot of info and read again some reviews and articles.  The concerts' reviews are amazing. Especially those with a lot of details, some written by fans who were going everywhere after David, they saw him many, many times. They were able to notice if he was in a good or bad mood, how he treated fans who ..were obsessed by him. I can't find another word for it. But of course I can understand it, and I'm so grateful that we have that kind of reviews on the website. With a lot of details, info about tickets' prices etc, security issues, about the places he performed in, or people who watched his concerts (not only fans). I wish we had more reviews, more pics, memorabilia. If you have something, or if you can try to write something, it would be great. Don't hesitate to write, everything coming from the eye witnesses are priceless So first a concert review, and it's something special...

What Would Have David Thought..

Image
if he'd known what some his middle-aged fans do every day?? But let's start with a song. My request which was played on the Seabird Radio on Sunday. I couldn't listen to it, because of the hurricane Eunice, no electricity, no Internet. My American friend Judy, wrote to me that it'd been played.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7AL9JsKnz0 What it was what Craig J. said on 'The Last Session' ? Something about catching this still burning flame..'such a hungry yearning burning inside of me".. So what DC would said if he had known that during last 3 days I've been doing (only because of DC and his website) sth I always avoided doing at work. Google docs, Google sheets...Or how fans fight about his commemoration. even if it's long and winding road. For 2 weeks only 411 fans were persuated to sign the petition (London's Walk Of Fame). When 2 days ago I was telling my English friend about my current work for the website, she asked me: 'Why do...

Steel Pier and The Official David Cassidy Website

Image
I've wanted to write  '1972. Concerts. Part 2. Steel Pier'. DC played there 3 concerts one day in 1971 and he broke the attendance record . The place wasn't prepared for a show like David's and so many fans..Truly speaking it's difficult to say how many. I've read in one place there were 50 000 and in another that 30 000. There was only one way in and one way out and nearly no security. And to get for those 3 shows DC really risked his life.  For the first one he arrived and left in an ambulance, but some fans guessed that DC was inside..for the second he walked all the way, right through the crowd, disguised as a woman.. Can you imagine..Amazing David Cassidy : 'I put on a wig, glasses, lipstick, rouge, the whole deal. It scared the hell out of me when I glanced in a mirror and didn't recognise myself..I thought, 'Damn, I actually look pretty good''. It worked like a charm'. ( David Cassidy : Could It Be Forever? , 2007) And the thir...

'Dream Come True'

Image
by Peter Jones, Record Mirror, 1973, November 10. We don't have many reviews of David's albums wrote in the 70s. The reviews which appeared in the serious music magazines. So it's great that such a review was published on the Official David Cassidy Website a few days ago. 'Dream Come True', of course it's the 'Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes' album review. Released in the USA in October 1973, in the UK one month later. The single Daydreamer/Puppy Song appeared already in October and became # 1 in the UK  (for 3 weeks). The album also was very popular and achieved number 1 position on November 24th, 1973 Here is David Cassidy (of course not in person) singing The Puppy Song while chart rundown on The Top Of The Pops.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBsZVQO4YzU 'Dreams Are  Nuthin' More Than Wishes', David's fans love that album. I don't know how many times I've listened to it in my car, singing with David. So many outstand...

Crazy Over You / David Cassidy

Image
Yes, it's an amazing  song, so full of passion and desire..why it wasn't released on the David Cassidy self-titled album in 1990 ? For example instead of not so exciting, truly speaking average 'All Because Of You' (co-wrote by Sue Shifrin)  And what's more 'All Because Of You' was Cher's hit in 1989, so why and what for?? We will never know.. But it was a mistake, because  'Crazy Over You'.. there is something in it, this song is so addictive, it begins seemingly so calmly and innocently, but little by little..you can't stop listening..David Cassidy at his best. Great  voice, powerful and sexy, intensity and emotion..a hit rock number.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AK5AQzoRG4 The lyrics of that song has been added to the David Cassidy Official Website recently. And you have no idea that it actually took a lot of emails and a lot of work before it was possible. It only looks so easy to do, I've tried but failed, and at last Doreen Wal...
