Tell Me It's Not True / William Russell

Image
But first 'Sooner or Later'. This song is like written for David Cassidy. He seduces us so easily with his voice..We don't have the video from this live performance, just one pic, but we can very easily imagine David on stage (it was in 1996), singing..'There's nowhere to hide..' https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/DiscographyPages/Sondheim%20A%20Celebration-Sooner%20Or%20Later.mp3 Amazing. A great song of course, Stephen Sondheim got an Academy Award  for 'Sooner or Later' in 1991, and Madonna sang it during the ceremony. A kind of jazz ballad which could have been written and performed in a night club in the 30s. DC was very comfortable with that style and sang those songs from Great American Songbook with such ease and sensitivity.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiIrTJOLquU&t=17s knows I think it's very important to write about David Cassidy's music. From all decades of his career. We have recently lost our weekly David Cassidy Show on ...

The David Cassidy Connections. Barb Collentine

I'm a librarian. A retired one, but once a librarian..And for me Louise Poynton's podcast, the collections of the conversations which have appeared on The David Cassidy Connections so far, is like a huge, very friendly library. You can browse and choose and listen whenever you want to. Louise works very hard, and  there are still quite a lot of episodes I haven't listened to yet. The main reason is that English is not my native language, so I always need that extra free time to sit at my desk, put the headphones on, and listen. And today I've been listening to the conversation with the American fellow fan, Barb Collentine. Let's start with a song. Barb's said that her first TPF's album was 'Up To Date', so let's listen to the Tony Romeo's masterpiece, 'Morning Rider On The Road'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzqH4OxumCw Barb Collentine, my FB's 'friend', we have exchanged some messages, and she wrote an article for my b...

Gary Contessa

Image
Gary Contessa on The David Cassidy Connections, in conversation with Louise Poynton. A very long conversation, nearly 2 hours, but it was fascinating, and I can only repeat after Louise that I've enjoyed every single minute of it. We can see in this video two friends, David Cassidy and Gary Contessa, on May 16, 2008. The horse bred by DC and co-owned by him, and trained by Gary Contessa, 3 year old Sweet Vendetta, won in the mile and eight Grade II, $ 200 000 Black-Eyed Susan stakes, at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. That race, besides the Kentucky Oaks and Acron Stakes is the most prestigious race in the USA. Black-Eyed Susan was inaugurated in 1919 and for DC this victory was like a dream comes true. The race took place in difficult conditions, in bad weather and rain, before a crowd of more than 28 000. David said that it was the biggest win of his career.. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/2008May16.html David Cassidy's friends ..amazing people who truly lo...

Jon Provost on The David Cassidy Connections

Image
I've never seen that 'Lassie', it wasn't shown on our Polish tv,  so before listening to Louise Poynton's new conversation, the first this year, I've watched her guest in his most famous role. Here is 10 year old Jon Provost as Timmy Martin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFN_AYH_p9c Great, timeless show, and Jon Provost's role is truly iconic, people loved Timmy and his dog. I just don't know how to start. I'm so overhelmed.  I've listened to that interview twice today, also because I've had some difficulties with understanding, and like always before writing a new blog I've gone for a walk (it was awfully dark and cold) and ..still can't find right words, because this conversation speaks for itself, everything is important, the questions and the answers, the things that were said and the way it was done, maybe my review should be very short - 'The first Louise's podcast which has made me cry and left speechless, go and li...

Jay Gruska on The David Cassidy Connections Podcast

Image
What can I say. Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes, because  3 days ago in conversation with someone on the site I wrote - ' I'd love to ask him (Jay Gruska) about the songs they co-wrote, maybe there were more, how the work on Hard Times  looked like, why the shorter version was chosen, were they friends and met outside the studio, and about music for Ruby. Maybe Louise Poynton will talk with him for the podcast...' Great minds..Amazing. I wonder what Jay Gruska thought when he'd got my email..That DC still had a lot of fans..Yes, of course. Before I write what I think about that conversation, let's listen to one of the songs Jay Gruska has talked about on the podcast, co-wrote by him in the 80s. The country version of that hit.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IV6SI14KwpE Of course Louise  asked much more interesting questions than I could have thought about . She is a very experienced journalist, did a lot of interviews, and she is always very well prepeared...

Maybe Someday /Austin Roberts, John Michael Hill

Image
First the song, from Notebook album, and TPF Season 3, episode 21 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32_0ZRhcOZQ An interesting episode, computers and credit accounts in 1973, not in my part of the world at the time. We didn't have a phone at home either. Great Alan Oppenheimer, a true tv legend, born 1930, he still works as a voice actor. Appeared with very young David on Ironside in 1969. Charming John David Carson who died in 2009. He was only 57. But today's blog is not about TPF, it's about a non-existent musical. There was one moment while I was listening to Louise Poynton's conversation with Nina Myskow, when I stopped listening to it and went for a long walk. Why there is a musical about 'Jackie' but not about David Cassidy.. Just watch those 2 videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KirNAvBDquw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G0EvhYTDCM Amazing.. and it was quite a hit. Of course there is one play inspired by DC, wrote in 2010 by Lucie Fitchett and Victo...

'I'm Listening To The Voice Of An Innocent Man'

Image
Of course you can't write about teen mags and 'Jackie' and Words Of Love without mentioning Nina Myskow, 'Jackie's' editor in the 70s.. She was on Louise Poynton's podcast some time ago, actually in February. At the time I listened just to those fragments  she  spoke about David, to the whole podcast only yesterday. Why, you ask. Let me tell you first that I'm a great Nina's fan, and  now watch this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U63_n0tafoI And imagine listening to Nina speaking even faster for an hour, and English is not my native language. But it was worth it, really amazing conversation, Nina Myskow is a wonderful woman, so optimistic. We have a saying in Poland and I thought about it while listening to her, that she is a person with 'you can steal horses with ', someone brave and fearless, but also very loyal, and with a lot of fantasy, smart and funny. So many times she said 'I was very lucky' meeting that or that person, no...

The David Cassidy Connections Or The Things We Do For Love..

Image
Yes, first that fabulous song written by Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman in 1976  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0rf3_viTxk Yes, it must be love..the things I do because of David Cassidy, this is the only explanation. My book, my journeys, a blog and now this - me talking (in English!!) with Louise Poynton..on her great podcast The David Cassidy Connections. Can you believe it ?? Me on her podcast..This is the link https://thedavidcassidyconnections.libsyn.com/weronika-cyrynger Wow ..amazing. And now seriously. When Louise Poynton invited me on her podcast I didn't hesitate. I'm a DC fan and I believe that we should talk and write about him as much as it's possible. I thought to myself ;'DC wasn't afraid of new challenges so don't be a coward', even if I knew it would not be easy. It wasn't, but it was a very inspiring, wonderful experience to be on the Louise Poynton's podcast. I'm in awe of her professionalism. Doing a podcast, editing it, i...
