Cherish Your Country

Image
In the 70s, in Poland, there was a magazine for teens called 'Brytania'. It was a bimonthly mag, actually published and  printed in the UK. Beautifully published , chalky paper, great pics, the articles about young people in Great Britain, my peers, but in the 70s British Isles could have been in another galaxy..I lived in a communist country. I couldn't go abroad..it was so unfair. The magazine was quite expensive and I had a subscription ,it was a present from my parents, they knew how I was interested in everything English..In every issue was a short English lesson, articles about music, cinema, theatre, sport and about life in the UK, occasional articles. I remember an issue on Silver Jubilee, and Keep Britain Tidy campaign, but not from the year when David Cassidy was involved. David Cassidy's contribution in the 'Keep Britain Tidy' campaign in 1973 made a great impact on many, many people , in fact on a whole generation. A lot was written and talked about

'David. Do His Kisses Mean Danger?'

Or..'Why David Cries And Cries'..'Win David's Love. Find Out How!'..The more dramatic title on the cover, the better.  David Cassidy was the biggest star of teen magazines ..ever..Some people earned just mountains of money out of him..it was enough to put a picture of David on the cover to increase sales..Not only teen mags ..'Rolling Stone' issue with naked David on the cover was sensational and  sold out.. For 4 years, from 1970 to 1974 David Cassidy was an undisputed king , or rather prince of teen mags..Fave, 16, Melanie, Mirabelle, Music Star, Teen Life, Teen World, Tiger Beat..there were mags made just for him..they were called Tiger Beat's Official Partridge Family Magazine or Tiger Beat Super Annual (there was also David Cassidy Annual) but it was a kind of smoke screen..only David was really important....in Europe the most popular were British weekly mag  'Jackie' , and German 'Bravo'. The first half of the 70s was a golden age

In 2019, because of David Cassidy, I went for my first ever trip to The United States..I have never thought that such a journey would be possible..For many years it was absolutely out of the question..Too far, too expensive and so difficult to get visa. But I've stopped working, my kids are very grown up..it wasn't that expensive anymore ..and I started to  think about it...First I got visa..It was stressful and funny  , we had a big laugh with the consul. His face when he heard that I wanted to go to America because of David..'Cassidy...Cassidy?..aaaa Shaun?!!' I said " The other one'..He finally remembered.."The Partridge Family???...But I was a little boy!'..What a gentleman..But I got visa and best wishes ..happy trails. At the beginning of 2019, I got an accommodation list..LA..Bakersfield...Page in Arizona...somewhere outside San Francisco..Hotel Circus Circus in Las Vegas..the names didn't tell me much..and..wow..Harrah's Hotel and Casino.

Tomorrow /Paul & Linda McCartney/

I listened to this song a few days ago.  The original. Written by Paul and Linda McCartney, recorded by Wings in 1971..It's charming, made me think about  and miss English parks (the pic on this post is mine, Stratford, 2018). It's a lovely song, a happy man singing, he knows he is going to spend some great time, he loves and he is loved..the end.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UzZtmvA8Gw And let's talk about David Cassidy's version. From 'Home Is Where The Heart Is', 1976. It's quite a different story..It's not charming. It's full of passion..pain even..This guy will go out of town with that (lucky) girl, whatever the weatherman says. They will take some food..but..the bread and cheese are not the most important. David Cassidy was an amazing interpreter. A lot of his songs are covers, but when he sang something, he had a reason. What was a meaning in a song..for him, what he could add from his experiences, and he wasn't afraid to show his emo

A Partridge Family Christmas Card

This album was released by Bell Records in November 1971, produced by Wes Farrell. One of the most popular and loved The Partridge Family's albums..though only 2 tracks were featured on the tv show. And that episode is probably the most loved by actors and audience alike..'Don't Bring Your Guns To Town, Santa'. Sheriff Swell..that handome singing guy.. Only one song on that album was an original..But what an original..Written by the great Tony Romeo (I'm going to write a post only about him) - 'My Christmas Card To You.' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blClzgifrdU David Cassidy's voice singing those Christmas classics..this is just pure magic. My favourite one is 'White Christmas', Irving Berlin's masterpiece, written in 1941, one of the most popular song ever..and yet..David Cassidy's version is unique...longing...expectation...sadness..joy..and that fabulous, young, clear voice..When he sings..I believe in every word, he genuinely wishe

I Think I Love You /Tony Romeo/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r9UtIhOI8M It's hard to believe but I think I first heard that song in December 1998..while watching the BBC great doc 'David Cassidy : Teenage Dream'.. Btw. what a great title, he was our dream..one David and millions of girls all over the world.  But in November 1970 when the song became number 1 hit in the US..I was 8 years old, I wasn't interested in music and we never had The Partridge Family on our tv..David Cassidy wasn't popular in Poland..I know this , because three or four years later, when I became a big music fan, and was listening to the radio all the time, I can't remember hearing his songs on Polish radio..It was like  Nationaal Archief, CC0, via Wikimedia Commons someone had decided (we had a censorship, Poland was a country behind the Iron Courtain) that David Cassidy wasn't good enough for Polish teens. Donny Osmond was ok..Michael Jackson, even Marc Bolan..but not David .When someone brought 'Bravo

London

David Cassidy first came to London at the beginning of February 1972... Dick Leahy (Bell Records) : 'It was total insanity at the airport. There was a terminal with a roof terrace and there were 10 000 fans just hanging off this terminal to welcome him. The young kids in England just loved David Cassidy. He was massive in England. Huge..He was the biggest thing in the UK..'/Cassidy D.:"Could It Be Forever", 2007/ After 46 years..'David who ??' I know, almost half a century..but nothing..no one remembers? I was in London in April 2018..still sad..walking in David Cassidy's footsteps and very strongly feeling his presence..like he was there with me..Very strange experience..So many places in London..I was standing outside The Dorchester Hotel thinking how fans blocked Park Lane because of him..later went to visit deserted and small (but very interesting) Hertford Street..he was standing on that balcony..smiling..and happy..Tottenham Court Road and Dominion

How Can I Be Sure /Felix Cavaliere, Eddie Brigati/

I have forgotten a lot of things from the 70s..Can’t remember anything from science lessons or how the first boy I fell in love with  looked like or what  his name was....But I remember what I felt and what I was doing when I first heard ‘How Can I Be Sure’. I think I was 12..already a music fan..Sweet, Slade and  the music from the 60s..The Beatles..Animals, but mostly happy pop...something to dance to..Like hundreds of thousands in Europe I loved listening to Radio Luxembourg..it wasn’t easy, awful quality and I didn’t know any English at all..And I shared a room with my younger sister....But one evening I was alone, sitting at my desk..mostly dreaming..and suddenly….how to describe..the song was very short..left me full of unknown emotions, also sadness, and that wish to hear that song again..to hear that voice once more.Of course I didn’t catch the singer’s name.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVvkmFfq8I0 Nationaal Archief, CC0, via Wikimedia Commons It was so many years ago,but

Being Together /Tony Romeo/

Hi there, My name is Weronika and I welcome all David Cassidy's fans to this blog. We, fans, still miss David Cassidy and it will never change for us..We also like talking about him..the impact he's had and still has on our lives. So such a blog could be a great place for writing and remembering him... 'Why me?' I could ask like Reuben Kincaid..I'm from Poland, English is not my native language (I'm still learning)..but maybe it could be an advantage..Fans from non English speaking countries could understand me better.. And I like talking and writing about David Cassidy..I even wrote two books about him just for myself and some very close friends, also Davidy Cassidy's fans..And it was one of my friend's idea..She said one day..-'Why don't you start writing a blog about DC? '(and leave me alone)..It was two years ago..and at last..I'm just starting.. I hope you will enjoy it and share your thoughts about David with me. Weronika https://w
