'He Was So Pretty You Couldn't Look Away..'

I've wanted to write about something else. Not about young David's beauty.  Actually about the Music Walk Of Fame in Camden Town, in London. I've talked about it with Pauline Tombs, and she's sent me a lot of info. They (MWOF) even last year wrote on their FB page about David, the teen idol, and that unforgettable Weekend At Wembely.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYsGLjjrMMY&t=1258s It always amazes me, that difference between David a teen idol, a superstar, so gentle and caring for his young fans, and the real person, so eloquent and aware and sophisticated..Anyway, let's return to Camden's Music Walk Of Fame. and the things I've learn thanks to Pauline. The London's Music Walk Of Fame was opened in November  2019. When completed, the walk is set  to feature over 400 artists - those important for Camden and also national and international icons, innovators, inspirations, visionaries within the industry and...unsung heroes. So far only 4 artists w

David Cassidy Radio Show - January 30, 2022

Image
A special show dedicated to David, by Dave Herron on 2 bays radio station. Listening to DC's music together with other fans, sharing our love  on FB page, talking and crying (a little bit) together. I've listened to the last show some time ago and it was a wonderful, emotional experience. But when it was announced I wasn't very happy because I knew I would be very busy, all that week, and especially on the January 30. But..you never know..what the future has for you. Let's start with one of the songs which has been played on the show this evening. A song I haven't expected to hear, and it was like listening to it for the very first time.. That fabulous, wonderful, one of a kind voice and those words..'Don't be sad for me..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d51RMaLuLnw Don't be sad..but we are still sad and I'm afraid nothing will change it.. So I was to be very, very busy. Some guests, very important appointments, very important family gatherings,

'1976'. Redd Kross and David Cassidy.

Thanks to Encarni I've seen that video today ( for the first time ).. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad2HWkH7FDY And of course I knew that Steve and Jeff McDonald who took part in 'The Spirit of '76' movie were from a  popular Californian band called Redd Cross, but I had no idea what kind of a band it really was ( and still is). It's truly a cult band, the brothers started playing punk in the late 70s ( being 11 and 15 years old).. they influenced many, but never achieved a great mainstream success. Just have a look at that video, it seems they always just played what they wanted ..and at the end of it they talked about one of their fav albums..The Partridge Family's 'Sound Magazine'.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hl4BtWCgvT0   'The Spirit of '76'. Released in 1990, sci fiction comedy starring David Cassidy, Olivia d'Abo, Leif Garrett, Geoff Hoyle, Redd Cross' Jeff and Steve, and members of another cult American group Devo, and R

Gary Contessa

Gary Contessa on The David Cassidy Connections, in conversation with Louise Poynton. A very long conversation, nearly 2 hours, but it was fascinating, and I can only repeat after Louise that I've enjoyed every single minute of it. We can see in this video two friends, David Cassidy and Gary Contessa, on May 16, 2008. The horse bred by DC and co-owned by him, and trained by Gary Contessa, 3 year old Sweet Vendetta, won in the mile and eight Grade II, $ 200 000 Black-Eyed Susan stakes, at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. That race, besides the Kentucky Oaks and Acron Stakes is the most prestigious race in the USA. Black-Eyed Susan was inaugurated in 1919 and for DC this victory was like a dream comes true. The race took place in difficult conditions, in bad weather and rain, before a crowd of more than 28 000. David said that it was the biggest win of his career.. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/2008May16.html David Cassidy's friends ..amazing people who truly lo

Rock Me Tour 2002 Australia. Part 2

Image
The tour in Australia was very emotional, for David and for his fans. They didn't care that some journalists weren't impressed at all. In their opinion the tour was a kind of nostalgia, sponsored by the pay tv channel, the album was a collection of old hits, and no one was interested in David's present work and life, only in his past. After a press conference : 'The denim shirt was undone one button more than you might expect (..) narrow shoulders, narrow waist, no hips and legs like a young girl (..) his skin so unlined, so taut. You were not the only one humming Carly Simon..' (A Spent Partridge?, Nov8, 2002, www.smh.com) Of course, David changed, in many ways.. but he looked great and his voice was still intact. Janet Fife-Yeomans saw DC performing live in the UK in the 70s, and in 1985, she saw him on Broadway and in Las Vegas. But in her opinion, the concerts in 2002 were the best : 'He seems to be at ease with himself and to have accepted the legacy of teen

The pic - David Cassidy and his fans at  Brisbane airport, 1974.. In 2002 David Cassidy played 35 concerts in the USA, 10 in the UK and after more than 28 years he performed again in Australia (8 concerts). Those concerts promoted 'Then And Now' album. Musicians who played with David on that tour : Lon Bronson - musical director, keyboards, road manager ; Jim McIntosh - guitar, Gary Olds - drums, Frank Fabio - bass, and Lisa Mayer and Candace Davis- Martin  (backing vocals). It was a kind of world tour which brought back a lot of memories. Everybody agreed that those concerts were exceptional. David was in great form, and they were so happy to be together again - he and his fans. 'There is not really that much difference between then and now- aside from the women's underwear. Almost 3 decades after TPF went off the air, the lust remains. DC said -' It's probably the most satisfying time of my life, I'm strapping on my guitar and feeling like I'm 19. The

February 27, 1974 - Auckland Town Hall

Yesterday a fan, Suzanne McConnell shared with us some memories from the first  David Cassidy's concert in New Zealand, in 1974. Of course it was many years ago, so she could remember 'bits and pieces', the excitement, how he was dressed, that everyone in the audience wanted DC's white bow tie and his white gloves, and that at one moment David was almost pulled off the stage into the crowd (bc of long microphone cord grabbed by some fans)..Elton John surprised everybody playing and singing with David rock'n'roll standards..Suzanne :' All too soon it was over and David was gone.' We have another review about DC's concerts in Auckland  and his visit in New Zealand. It was repeated a few times that he'd looked very tired. I also read somewhere that he found time for water ski and some sight seeing. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/ConcertPages/1974Feb27.html David Cassidy in New Zealand..a lot of PR and wishful thinking unrelated to facts. Ein Schloß am Worthersee

Image
A Castle at Lake Worther, a German-Austrian tv series. There were 3 seasons, from 1990 to 1993. In the episode aired on January 27, 1993, David Cassidy played a rock star, Patrick Riley, whose career was on the rocks because of..alcohol, gambling and beautiful ladies, and Sue played  Patrick's wife, Linda. That episode was filmed in July 1992, in Velden, Austria, and DC and Sue took their young son to Europe with them. Someone wrote in a review that the series was quite good, like  'Love Boat', but better executed. Some former known American stars appeared on it. Telly Savalas, Larry Hagman, Linda Grey and David Cassidy. It's difficult to write anything about his performance. DC told many times that he was interested only in quality and 'no garbage for money'..  but of course he had a young family to support (and his daughter Katie), and I've seen only fragments of his episode on YT, recorded from the TV, and in German. In the video we can see David and Sue.

'Dream Come True'

Image
by Peter Jones, Record Mirror, 1973, November 10. We don't have many reviews of David's albums wrote in the 70s. The reviews which appeared in the serious music magazines. So it's great that such a review was published on the Official David Cassidy Website a few days ago. 'Dream Come True', of course it's the 'Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes' album review. Released in the USA in October 1973, in the UK one month later. The single Daydreamer/Puppy Song appeared already in October and became # 1 in the UK  (for 3 weeks). The album also was very popular and achieved number 1 position on November 24th, 1973 Here is David Cassidy (of course not in person) singing The Puppy Song while chart rundown on The Top Of The Pops.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBsZVQO4YzU 'Dreams Are  Nuthin' More Than Wishes', David's fans love that album. I don't know how many times I've listened to it in my car, singing with David. So many outstand

Behind the Scenes at TOTP

Image
Top Of The Pops. Of course I heard and read about it in the 70s, absolutely had no chance to see it. Never. When I was in West Germany in 1985, I watched a little bit of MTV, but not TOTP. Made by BBC and originally broadcast weekly between January 1964 and July 2006, the world's longest running music show. Everybody performed on it, it was a honour to be there. The first artist and the first song - Dusty Springfield and 'I Only Want To Be With You'. During its heyday, in the 70s, TOTP attracted 15 millions viewers each week.  David Cassidy should have performed on it many times in the first part of the 70s, but he couldn't, even when he had number ones.. Of course we know why, David  was banned from the BBC TV Centre in White City (where TOTP was filmed usually on Wednesdays) because of security problems. But this is also a reason that his performances filmed outside the studio, or without the audience (always in great secret) became legendary. In addition to the weekl

That's a lot of time. The world has changed from November 2017. This big one and that personal. We have new leaders and we face new challenges, At the time DC passed away I learnt that I would be a grandmother, and now my grandsons are big, healthy boys. Time doesn't stand still for anyone..and we can't go home again.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEnC-Pyx3Yw Recently two artists have died and I read that they've gone too soon. One was 73 and the other 74 years old.. Jon Lind, the co- writer, with Sue Shifrin, of 'All Because Of You'. Jon Lind died from cancer on January 15th . The song was first recorded by Cher, appeared on her hit album 'Heart Of Stone' in 1989.  4 singles were released, and 'All Because Of You' was side B of 'Heart Of Stone' ( January 1990). David Cassidy recorded his version for his self-titled album released in October 1990. Don't ask me why, I wish I knew. Why not 'Crazy Over You' instead? But 'Al

Singing For David

Image
When David Cassidy died in November 2017 I thought that sth would be organized in his memory. A concert maybe.. Not on a global scale of course, but so many people all over the world, fans, also  celebrity ones, people who worked with him or his friends, all of them wrote about their sorrow and  sadness and regret  that he'd left us much too soon.  Many, many people, a real tsunami of millions of tweets and posts. It was so devastating and difficult to understand. How it was possible, that someone once so beautiful, someone so loved, who brought such  joy and happiness ..that he died.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEs-WQeOWjE I was waiting with  other fans, for something... big. David himself took part in  many charity or tribute concerts during his lifetime. So many in his family could sing, and of course so many of his friends. It couldn't be that complicated and difficult to organize such concert, I thought. Of course money was needed, but millions of fans would have paid

'There Are Many Lessons To Learn From That Video, Many'

Image
This is a fragment of one of the comments on the tapes which are called The Cassidy Collection, recorded by Elliot Mintz in Hawaii, in 1974 Let's first watch the only existing fragment of their tv interview for Eyewitness News 7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sD0ZSyW1YU David was so beautiful, amazing. Anyway, Elliot Mintz and his tapes. I've written about them a few times. Elliot met David when he lived in Laurel Canyon, before DC became a teen idol, he travelled with him..they were friends for a while, in the 70s and early 80s. Of course we know what DC wrote about Elliot in his autobiography, but I'm grateful that I could listen to those priceless tapes.Yes, I absolutely agree, 'there are many lessons to learn from that video.' So far, and it was published 2 years ago, that video had 59 925 views, which is  a very impressive number. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=my9W-rohxVk&t=4736s I was one of the first to listen to them, 3 hours and 50 minutes, that

I'm ..skating on a thin ice?..enter the minefield?  a slippery slope? Anyway I know I must be careful while writing about that delicate topic - rare and unreleased The Partridge Family's recordings, because I know that I know nothing. But let's start with the song, pre-David, a song recorded for The Partridge Family, but never used anywhere, not on any episode, or an album. If it was used, and first of all if it was sung by David Cassidy, it could have been a hit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BI0q__ZdDvs I doubt if he'd had been very happy with it..We know that DC didn't like some TPF's songs he had to record. But on the other hand his young, sincere, beautiful voice was just perfect for  such pop hits. And I talked about them yesterday with a fellow fan from Brasil, Alexandre. How we loved those romantic TPF's songs and what a shame some of them weren't released. And  probably there were more but they were lost for us forever. So instead writing abou

Anderson's book for kids, I've translated it for my grandson and made a book for him, both with the original in English and my Polish translation, and some pics, also DC's with horses. Because David's love for horses is also a part of his legacy.  I love animals too, but never ridden a horse in my life, even that there are two stables in the neighborhood. But because of him (and my sister) I've became a regular donor of a foundation that saves horses' life. Recently I've got a personal letter from them with an invitation to visit the horses which were rescued with mine (and my sister's) help. I'm not writing this to brag, just to say that anyone can help and this is very important part of David Cassidy's legacy. He would have been happy if he'd known that his fans support and rescue the animals in need. Yesterday I was ta

said DC in one  of the interviews in February 1985. Of course I've written about David and his British fans a lot of times, but this is truly a never ending story, and yesterday a fellow-fan, Tim Edwards, posted a link to a programme called Saturday Superstore and of course I started watching it  (again). http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1985March21_SaturdaySuperstore.html DC was wonderful on it, he really felt great in the UK, and so many English journalists, broadcasters, tv and radio personalities genuinely loved David Cassidy. Tim Edwards wrote yesterday answering my comment :' He (DC) played concerts here yet his appearance on tv was always a special time for his adoring fans. I think as youngsters back then, there was no mobile phones or social media like today and we relied on magazines, newspapers and tv/radio for news, life was totally different and that's why a guest appearance on a tv programme back then was sth many of us would see as a major happ

A song from Notebook album, released in November 1972. A strange song for TPF, I don't know why it was recorded at all. A great hit for The Animals in 1965, #2 in the UK, also very popular in the USA, especially with United States Armed Forces members stationed in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War..So really strange choice for TPF. On the same  album 'Lookin' Through The Eyes Of Love', 'Storybook Love' and the song which was called 'the Vietnam anthem'.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ma0OtDJbIc No, as much as I love DC voice in it,  I agree with someone's comment- 'a heavily pop version of such a dark song'. I've thought about it while searching for a good title for today's blog..About work, why DC worked so hard? Always. Sometimes he behaved like a true workaholic.  Skinny and slightly built, never very healthy, in 1970-1974 he worked for 16 hours a day, and that constant work, tiredness and stress took their toll. David in 197

It's one of those songs when you listen to it and think..this is such a gem, a masterpiece. Released in December 1971, the single from 'Shopping Bag' ( side B 'One Night Stand' ), in January 1972, 50 years ago, number 2 on the Adult Contemporary Chart and on Jan 22 peaked at number 20 on The Billboard Hot 100 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqBc549rcF4 Why only number 20 ?? I love reading those old charts. So Billboard Hot 100, Jan 22 - number 1 'American Pie', D. McLean..7. 'I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing', The New Seekers...16. Hey Girl, D.Osmond...20 TPF....21. Without You, Nilsson......24. 'Cherish' David Cassidy......27. Black Dog, Led Zeppelin....Interesting.. This is one of those  songs very difficult to cover. It only looks simple, I mean there are a lot of awful amator covers of it on YT, but not many made by professional musicians. Because this song was created in the perfect time and place, wonderful music and lyrics wrote

Wonderful Tracey Wright again, a fellow-fan and so valuable member of The David Cassidy Great Britain Group. She's found it and shared with us. And this is something really extraordinary, the episode  of  a tv show, the episode with David Cassidy,  which I never expected I'd see. I'm so grateful. The tv series, called The John Larroquette Show was aired on NBC from September 2, 1993 until October 30, 1996. And even that it was never really popular, it has a loyal cult following. Betty White ( who died recently) appeared in one of the  episodes and got an Emmy Award for it. It was a sitcom about a recovering alcoholic who becomes the manager of a big city bus station. One critic called it 'sitcom noir', and the first 13 episodes represented the '12 Steps' of AA.. Let's first watch the opening scene and listen to the theme song, wrote and performed by David Cassidy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7LWzWMEbt8 David Cassidy : "I wrote and recorded the

Jon Provost on The David Cassidy Connections

I've never seen that 'Lassie', it wasn't shown on our Polish tv,  so before listening to Louise Poynton's new conversation, the first this year, I've watched her guest in his most famous role. Here is 10 year old Jon Provost as Timmy Martin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFN_AYH_p9c Great, timeless show, and Jon Provost's role is truly iconic, people loved Timmy and his dog. I just don't know how to start. I'm so overhelmed.  I've listened to that interview twice today, also because I've had some difficulties with understanding, and like always before writing a new blog I've gone for a walk (it was awfully dark and cold) and ..still can't find right words, because this conversation speaks for itself, everything is important, the questions and the answers, the things that were said and the way it was done, maybe my review should be very short - 'The first Louise's podcast which has made me cry and left speechless, go and li

The title of Marcus Welby, M.D. episode  (#1.16) which was aired on ABC, on January 13, 1970.  A very important David's title role..He played that kid, Michael. David Cassidy : (Could It Be Forever, 2007) ' My acting was lame on my first couple of shows, but I was really pleased with the job I did on Marcus Welby. I played a diabetic youth who, as a way to punish his father, wouldn't take his insulin. I had to do some highly emotional stuff. Ruth said it was a great piece of work and she would help me get more..' And she found him Keith Partridge..(it's just a remark..) Each decade has its own great and popular tv medical drama. Doctor Kildare..I loved watching ER and later House, M.D, Such medical tv dramas have  enormous audience . And David appeared on Marcus Welby, MD, when that show was nearly at the pic of its popularity. . The first episode was aired on September 23, 1969 and it was an instant, huge hit, it starred Robert Young as the title character, his p

or not going to Las Vegas. Since the 1st of January this is something I've been thinking about really hard, only 3 months left, so if I want to go I have to decide now. In October I wrote a blog with an interview with Lynne Frasche and Carolyn Boyer-Schiavo, they answered a lot of my questions and explained how everything will look like, about events surrounding the ceremony, possible accomodation, special guest speakers.. That blog so far has 600 hits, it means that a lot of fans have wanted to know as much as possible about the event. Here is the link to that first blog with the interview. https://talkingaboutdavid.blogspot.com/2021/10/david-cassidys-official-las-vegas-star.html I've asked Lynne Frasche if just 3 months before the event, she would like to add something and this is what she's written for us 'David's Las Vegas Walk Of Stars Event is just three short months away! So exciting! We are still asking fans to please donate if they can attend the event, or

The Partridge Family Experience

Image
A couple of days ago someone wrote on FB about visiting The Friends Experience in New York, and asked if sth like that but with TPF existed. I've checked what it could be that Friends Experience. I've heard about the show of course but actually never watched it. I only know that one of the actresses, Lisa Kudrow was born in Encino, LA and in the 70s was a huge David's fan, even run his fan club or something like that. I've learned that it was created by Warner Bros, and it's not only in NY and not cheap...And of course I've started thinking about TPF Experience, would I  like it or not.. This is a new video about a former Columbia Ranch (now it's called Warner Bros Ranch), and at the minute 5th of it we can see how  The Partridge Family's house looks now, and later there is the famous fountain of course.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARvQ5iXEipA Amazing..So what about The David Cassidy Museum. I have nothing against museums, I love visiting them every

Written by Mike Appel, Jim Cretecos and of course Wes Farrell. And David was right, yes, it was # 6 on Billboard Hot 100 on March 27, 1971, but number 1 on U.S. Cash Box Top 100. Another gold single for TPF. On the side B was Tony Romeo's masterpiece. Since I've heard John Gomolka's version with the real DC's voice I can't  listen to the old one http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/DiscographyPages/You%20Are%20Always%20On%20My%20Mind_JohnGomolkaVersion.mp3 But let's return to 'Doesn't Sb Want To Be Wanted'.
