Shirley Mae Jones - The Sound Of Music

Yes, why Shirley wasn't Maria..Maybe because of Shaun, because of love. Her first son was born in September 1958. 'The Sound of Music', the last Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical,  opened on Broadway in November 1959 and got a lot of Tony Awards. But on the other hand Shirley returned to work very quickly, she performed in 'Wish You Were Here!' with Jack in 1959.. She was one of Robert Wise 3 choices for Maria for the film version..She played her on stage at Westbury Music Theatre. In 1965 she appeared in a movie called 'The Secret Of My Success', and no roles for the next four years. Not so much on TV either. David Cassidy never recorded that beautiful song, but of course he knew the whole soundtrack from 'The Music Man'. Jack taught him.
