Lookin' For A Good Time / Wes Farrell, Danny Janssen and Bobby Hart

Image
or a very valuable lesson I've learned because of my previous post (about David and Shaun) But first the song.Truly speaking that trio, Wes, Danny and Bobby, wrote together some very good and memorable songs for TPF. 'Money Money' and 'I Wouldn't Put Nothin' Over On You' from Bulletin Board , 'Lookin' For a Good Time is also from that album), and 'Sunshine' (Crossword Puzzle), and 'Something Wrong' (Notebook), and Danny Janssen with Wes Farrell's help wrote 'Brown Eyes' and 'Twenty Four Hours A Day' (Sound Magazine), to name a few.. So the song, from the Season 4, episode 15, aired January 26, 1974. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OmAJJdMnoU So why this song and what about my lesson. The song is because I'm not 17 and  should think first before writing something, not to be so adventurous so to speak. And yesterday I wrote a post which has got quite a lot of comments. I've thought that  writing about David

David and Shaun. Part 1.

Image
Shaun Cassidy had a birthday 2 days ago, he is 63 now, and on September 27th  during my early morning walk by the sea, I was thinking a little bit about those two brothers and their careers.. Shaun Cassidy..it can be hard for DC fans, but I think that in the 70s Shaun was more known worldwide and now he is more remembered  than his older brother, David. Yes, I know they were half brothers. Shaun was ..huge, very, very popular, even in my part of the world, behind the Iron Curtain. This is his debut single, 'Morning Girl' from 1976, poor Jack Cassidy witnessed  another member of his family becoming very famous . Because it was obvious that Shaun was going to be a next teen idol. I remember 'Bravo' from 1976 and 1977 - mostly Bay City Rollers and Shaun .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxVN_xQw3jc His first solo album called 'Shaun Cassidy', released also in 1976, next year it became multi-platinum, and he had a number 1 single in the U.S. with 'Da Doo Ran R

'I Wouldn't Put Nothin' Over On You' / Wes Farrell, Danny Janssen and Bobby Hart

Hi..another great holiday with David Cassidy's music, thanks to Timm McCoy and his DC Day 2018. This time I've been listening to it while walking on a  very empty, long and beautiful beach in Poland. The Baltic Sea is never very warm, even in summer, but I've come there for a few quiet days, and it was a great stay. And a very exciting journey from Warsaw, driving alone, highways and side roads,  about 1500km both ways, quite an adventure..I'm proud of myself (and my old Nissan Micra) Timm McCoy ( btw I'd love to send him a present or just  let him know how his DC Day is important for me), anyway  Timm during his programme tells a few times something like that -' This is one of my fav DC's albums' or 'That song is one of my fav'..and again...'Oh, that's my fav version of this song'..But of course we say or write the same all the time, because we love nearly everything David Cassidy ever recorded. And I've listened to this TPF'

Robyn Millan

Image
I learnt yesterday that Robyn Millan died last year. Someone published a post about the TPF's episode where she'd appeared as a guest star, 'Dora, Dora, Dora', Season 2 episode 1, aired 50 years ago, on September 17, 1971..And there was a comment about that episode that the script was poorly written, sexist etc. Maybe, no one would dare write something like that now, but the world looked different half a century ago..And I really felt sad yesterday because of Robyn. She started her short career in 1965, 33 credits, mostly tv roles - Mission:Impossible, The F.B.I, Hawaii 5.0, Ryan's Hope..But we would remember her as Dora, the girl Keith fell in love with, and Robyn, the girl David dated for a while.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmZnk9RFKm0&t=1s  In December 1971 on Photoplay Magazine an interview with Robyn was published :' He is just marvellous and really knows how to handle his success.(..) We hit it off from that first day six months ago.(..) I resp

Morning Rider on the Road by..John Arehart

Image
The song was written by Tony Romeo of course, and it's been on my mind recently because on Tuesday (very early morning) I'm going away for 8 or 9 days to the seaside. This time not by plane to Africa, but my destination is our (Polish) seaside (Baltic Sea) and  I'll go by car on my own..something I have never done before,  a long way and it will be quite an adventure.  Morning  Rider on the Road by John Arehart is a mush up of TPF's version and Craig Scott's version. I have never heard about Craig Scott, his cover is very similar to the original, almost identical. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wW-S8lu21Po Really nice effect. Craig Scott is from New Zealand. In the early 70s he had a role in a tv music series (which was cancelled in 1974)..He was a real teen idol for a while, had one nr 1 in NZ , in 1970, Neil Sedaka's cover, 'Star Crossed Lovers'. He retired from performing in the late 70s, and achived a success as a music promoter and later became a s

Seabird Radio or You Can't Write a Blog Without Friends

Image
We talk a lot about David Cassidy's legacy, of course his music is the most important, friendship probably comes second.  This is a special kind of friendship, we don't know each other personally, we DC fans, even if we write everyday on social media, but it's  important part of our lives (mine at least) and I know I can always count on kindness and help. Yesterday I found out about it again. Encarni is from Spain , my  number 1 reader, and what's more important she comments and helps with additional info. Such a reader is every bloger's dream and I'm so grateful. Yesterday I wrote that I couldn't find the original  Bob Gibson's 'Some Old Woman', and first Louise Poynton told me that she'd played it on her radio show, and later Encarni sent me a link to the page with a song and a lot of info about that forgotten folk genius, Bob Gibson. (it's nice that on his page there is also DC's version) https://www.bobgibsonfolk.com/song-some-ol

Some Old Woman / Shel Silverstein, Bob Gibson

I have wanted to write about some recent David Cassidy's tribute videos. A lot of new ones have been published recently, and at last I've found some time to watch them. I really appreciate and wait for every  DC tribute video. I've made 2 or 3 myself and that wasn't easy, believe me. To choose and edit pics, and songs, but first of all to have an interesting idea for a video. We fans know all songs and all pics..we have seen everything.. So yesterday I started watching and the first one was..BINGO!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9OxgDvfDCE Wow! Made by Daydreamer DC FAN. What a great idea ! David's posters on a bus stop, there was time his posters were everywhere..And the song. A different than the others on Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes, not fitting at first glance (listening). Brillantly played - Ron Tutt, Emory Gordy, Michael Omartian , this song is such a gem, and of course it's very well sung by David . The way he sings it..the song sounds li

Warm My Soul /Joerey Ortiz

Image
A song written by a teenager, sung twice by David Cassidy, but maybe first I will write about Joerey and his family. And it was a big family of Mexican and Native American origin, in entertainment for generations, and in the early 70s some of them (including Joerey) started playing in a band called 'Silverbird'. They released an album in 1971, 'Broken Treaties', and probably it was the first album by a Native American band to be released on a major record label (Capitol) Wes Farrell even worked with that talented teen Joerey Ortiz, they recorded some demos,  nothing came out of this. But Joerey wrote a really good song. So for the first time - 'Warm My Soul' and David Cassidy with TPF.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIajU5K1PNE&t=25s Interesting lyrics as for a teen. I've read somewhere, but I can't find now, that Joerey was 17 when writing it. This version was recorded for the 'Up To Date' album, but was rejected by Wes Farrell. I like mor

Listen To The Sound / John Michael Hill

Image
Or..the  new info I discover every day. New for me of course,  But first 'Listen To the Sound'. The best medicine when one is under the weather. Listening to that fabulous, happy and sunny and uplifting song and watching this beautiful boy singing.. the song and the smile really make you happy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giMh_pBr-c0 And what a singer he was.. "Listen To the Sound' was written by John Michael Hill, an American producer and composer (mostly tv and film soundtracks). He wrote two songs for TPF, the other one is (co- wrote with Austin Roberts) - 'Maybe Someday'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32_0ZRhcOZQ TPF's music..Called a bubble gum pop. The music for teens, little girls..Yes, the songs were simple and honest and sincere..but on the other hand they were wonderfully done, in a very smart and sopisticated way..David Cassidy wrote in 2007 : 'Although most people didn't appreciate the merit of the songs back then, I think that the

The David Cassidy Connections Or The Things We Do For Love..

Image
Yes, first that fabulous song written by Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman in 1976  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0rf3_viTxk Yes, it must be love..the things I do because of David Cassidy, this is the only explanation. My book, my journeys, a blog and now this - me talking (in English!!) with Louise Poynton..on her great podcast The David Cassidy Connections. Can you believe it ?? Me on her podcast..This is the link https://thedavidcassidyconnections.libsyn.com/weronika-cyrynger Wow ..amazing. And now seriously. When Louise Poynton invited me on her podcast I didn't hesitate. I'm a DC fan and I believe that we should talk and write about him as much as it's possible. I thought to myself ;'DC wasn't afraid of new challenges so don't be a coward', even if I knew it would not be easy. It wasn't, but it was a very inspiring, wonderful experience to be on the Louise Poynton's podcast. I'm in awe of her professionalism. Doing a podcast, editing it, i

'I Try To De-Mystify Myself. I'm Just a Human Being..'

Image
'..who happens to do rock-n- roll for a living' - David Cassidy told Billy Reed for The Courier Journal in September 1975. This article was published yesterday on the DC Official Website. But, he wasn't an average human being, he was a famous one. And it's happened that besides that article , I read yesterday another one about fame. Actually it was Jeremy Clarkson's book called 'If You'd Just Let Me Finish..'. I love Jeremy Clarkson writings, he has  wicked, surreal kind of humor, all articles in that book are from his Sunday Times column. Very funny, but not everything. Besides other things he wrote  about Amy Winehouse's documentary, and that time he was dead serious. He wrote : 'What killed Amy was something far more dangerous than alcohol. It was the same thing that killed Janis and Keith and Jim and all the others(..) : fame. (J.Clarkson, London, 2018) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oy80bUKt54I I remember when that song  was released, some

Rosa's Cantina / David Cassidy, Garofala

Image
First that amazing, fantastic track from 'Gettin' It In The Street' album, a song about boys having a good time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sp97MhR8ZCU Perfection. The music, arrangment, and the lyrics..just listen carefully to them. David Cassidy only needed a few words to build an atmosphere of the song. I'm sure it was him who wrote that lyrics. The co- author, Garofala is  Bryan David Garofalo, in the 70s and 80s a popular Canadian session musician, a guitarist and a bass player, who worked with David on his 3 RCA albums, and also with a lot of his friends like Kim Carnes, Ned Doheny, Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley. Sure the boys had a great time while recording that album at Caribou Ranch in Colorado in 1976. David :' I had never been to Colorado and found that I couldn't sing up there because of altitude and because it was so dry. I lost the top few notes of my vocal range. But we had a lot of fun there. We went horseback riding every day and there w

New Pics, Vanuatu And ..Happy Birthday

Image
Yesterday 2 new pics were published on the DC website. David Cassidy in concert, World Tour 1974. March 10. Taken 47 years ago and shared in September 2021 by Christopher Adams. He was so close to the stage, amazing..And yesterday I looked at those pics several times during the day. They are so...(my limited English) irresistible, an charismatic performer at work, giving 100% for his audience, and DC looks so fragile, young, innocent and sexy at the same time. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/ConcertPages/1974March10_Christopher.html?fbclid=IwAR3ZU58tEgeKerdknvov-qJI09J97Y9Rz2UpFJs-iWjzTmuKu4zzeqk_1Yg Thank you Christopher Adams so much.  I know that there are more unknown pics and videos of DC ..somewhere. It's great when an owner of such wants to share and finds time to contact with www.davidcassidy.com, because The David Cassidy Official Website is a a place to share all info on DC. Vanuatu..Someone from Vanuatu read my blog yesterday..Or maybe didn't read, just had a loo

New York City Life /David Cassidy

Image
An amazing, fabulous song from 'A Touch Of Blue' album..When I listen to it..I can imagine Fred and Ginger dancing to it..The lights and splendor and excitement of Broadway. Beautiful, elegant people. New York..the city that never sleeps..New York.. the city I was to visit in April 2020.. I'm so lucky that a new (great) tribute video with that song just has appeared on YT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-4Zt6XnrY8 Amazing track, music and lyrics. David was really a very talented (and sophisticated) lyricist..Just a few words and you know everything, so clear, authentic, personal..His whole career, ups and downs are  in that song, and his love for his native city. And a short but accurate description of LA and his life there. And his voice. Mature and rich and sexy, warm..And the arrangment.. A fabulous song. David Cassidy loved New York, he talked and wrote about it many times. He debuted on Broadway as a teen, later he performed there again, in the 80s and 90s, working i

Oh No, Not My Baby/ Gerry Goffin, Carole King

Image
This time let's listen first not to the TPF's version but someone's else. Great Dusty Springfield's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7cvk5ONga0   What an outstanding voice..Such sadness, longing. What a shame that so many people have no idea, never heard about Dusty Springfield, she was an exceptional singer. 'Oh No, Not My Baby' was first released by Maxine Brown in 1964, Billboard's highest number 24. This song is regarded as an American standard, a lot of artists made covers of it. Aretha Franklin, Linda Ronstadt. There are 2 very good covers from 1973. Rod Stewart's was a hit in the UK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fy9xfMXmHBE And The Partridge Family's..from 'Bulletin Board'. I must say that I like that album more and more, it should be regarded as David Cassidy's solo album really. He sings that standard with such a soul or even bluesy feeling..and also you can hear how he enjoyed singing it, it was fun, and.. he was sure of the g

David Cassidy Conversation With Piers Morgan

Image
David Cassidy still evokes strong emotions. In spite of the message - 'love and light', 'be kind..' etc, we fans are not one very happy family. Truly speaking I like when people have different opinions, of course they should respect each other . And recently I've had another conversation (this is a never ending story really) about why we (middle aged women mostly), still cherish David Cassidy's young pics and why I write so much about his career in the 70s. What to say. Yes, it can look strange. I have quite a lot of DC's pics in my room. Mostly David in his twenties, photos made 40 or even 50 years ago. I have  his giant, original poster. And I'm not a 14 year old girl, on the contrary. A grandmother actually, a former teacher and librarian. Even my 3 year old grandson knows David Cassidy. I prefer to think that there is nothing wrong with those pics, they are just very nice, make me smile every day and that David Cassidy is a kind of ..hobby. I didn&#

Being Together / Tony Romeo

Image
Being Together ..that was the title of my first  post, published in December 2020.  Actually my blog is called 'David Cassidy Being Together' and when I was thinking about the best name for it, 'Being Together' seemed to me the best idea, we fans, being together, talking about David Cassidy, his life, music and his legacy. But first of all, this is the title of a  great song, written by that forgotten genius, Tony Romeo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFCpbdtwQac Wonderful, the music, the lyrics and David's singing. I thought about that song while reading 'Cherish.', Louise Poynton's book, last night. After yesterday's post about Danny Calvagna, she remainded me, that his memories are in her book ( page 193), in the section 'The David Effect'. And of course I've read more, a lot more, thinking about the impact DC had (and still has) on our lives. We have different backgrounds, age, experiences, a lot of things, but on the other hand the

Danny Calvagna...

Image
I fell in love yesterday..His name was Danny and he died in February, after a long battle with Covid-19. Only 66. He was a frontman of a cover group called 45rpm. Their concerts were labeled 'The C'mon Get Happy Show'.. https://patch.com/new-york/deerpark-northbabylon/popular-deer-park-singer-who-died-coronavirus-honored Of course I've heard something about it..but not much, I wasn't on FB or any social media at the time and I've never listened to this cover band, 45 rpm. And it's only when my dear American friend Judy  sent me a video with a tribute concert the group did, I've started reading and watching..Judy, she is so sweet..'in case you didn't see it', she has written. I didn't, and I'm very, very grateful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1vf3cL15XU Wow..amazing. Really much, much better than I've expected. Everything, Danny's singing and commitment, boys playing rock ..( and a very interesting drummer). Very exciting.

It's a Long Way To Heaven / Mark James

Image
First the song, perfectly performed and..sad, one of the saddest TPF songs, the lyrics and the way DC sings it.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utV6giIxkcw The song was written by Mark James (born Francis Rodney Zambar in 1940) and I'd loved to hear him in conversation with Louise Poynton for her podcast. Very talented songwriter, he wrote songs for Brenda Lee or Elvis Presley. And what songs - 'Suspicious Minds' and 'Always On My Mind'. The latter song was a great hit when it was later recorded by Willie Nelson, and in the UK by Pet Shop Boys.  In 1972 Mark James signed a long-term contract with Screen Gems-Columbia Music. He wrote 3 songs for TPF. 'It's a Long Way To Heaven' appeared on  that ill-fated album, 'Crossword Puzzle'. The album was released in March 1973, the final TPF record to make the album charts, peaked at #167 on Billboard 200.   Bell Records released 3 TPF albums and 2 David's in 1972, it was  a lot even for the most loy

The Puppy Song / Harry Nilsson

Image
This is just amazing what I've learnt and I'm learning every day because of David Cassidy and this blog. In the 70s I knew Harry Nilsson as a performer of a song..which I really hated , a hot favourite at every school ball or home party, I even heard it once at a scout camp, singing a capella.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-ZDKirjQgM That was a great hit, everywhere, but at the time I loved ...something more exciting.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_jdiU47bFA  Great music, whatever we call it, such fun....RIP Brian, Steve and Mick..Anyway, in the 70s I had no idea about Harry Nilsson and his songs, I think  I was too young to appreciate his fabulous voice and his talent as a song writer, and how important artist he was.. His music wasn't played much on our radio.  I knew 'Everybody's Talkin', but of course I wasn't allowed to watch 'Midnight Cowboy' (the song was featured in that film) and I had no idea who the singer was, even if I always lo

Time. David Cassidy and Stephanie Lawrence.

Image
First let's watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0FjkvhRsv8 It nearly always makes me sad watching it. David and Stephanie, so talented, so beautiful, still so young, there is something very vulnerable about them, fragile, can't find right words, they are so alike. Both beautiful and dedicated professionals. Stephanie Lawrence was just 4 months older than David Cassidy, her father was a singer, her mum a ballet dancer. Stephanie also wanted to be a ballerina, at 12 she danced in 'Nutcracker', but she resigned from a ballet school because of serious health problems. She debuted on West End in 1971, in film in 1973 ( O Lucky Man!), she was also a member of the dance troupe called Pan's People which appeared on Top Of The Pops. In the 80s she was a real star, one of the leading musical female theatre performers in London, She was Evita and Marilyn Monroe. And what a beautiful voice she had, I've heard this song many, many times but only Stephanie Lawre

Time..David Cassidy and..Freddie Mercury.

Image
This post will not be easy to write.. 1. I'm not a fan of musicals, and I know what DC wrote and said about 'Time' 2. I know very well..Freddie Mercury's version of  'In My Defence'. It wasn't a hit when it was recorded for the 'Time' concept album ( October 1985 at Abbey Road)), but it was released as Freddie's  single, posthumously in 1992, reaching number 8 in the UK. Btw Freddie Mercury was born on September 5th, 1946. I specially chose a video when we can concentrate on listening to his voice not on watching him. It's great and powerful.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkLSkBewa3o  It's not everything..Freddie recorded 2 songs for 'Time' concept album, written by Dave Clark, David Soames and Jeff Daniels - In My Defence and Time, and the video for that last song was made at the Dominion Theatre. What's more, his ever last live performence was at that theatre, in 'Time' on April 14th, 1988 That video was made at

Brand New Me / Wes Farrell, Eddie Singleton

Image
First the song, the first track from the first The Partridge Family album..John Gomolka's version (DC's true voice) http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/DiscographyPages/Brand%20New%20Me_JohnGomolkaVersion.mp3 I can imagine Wes Farrell listening to young David Cassidy for the first time..'BINGO!!..So beautiful, so talented, and  mine only..' The recording session of that particular song - August 5th, 1970,  but I wish I knew the exact release date  of that first album, called 'The Partridge Family Album'. On the DC website - December 1970, of course too late ; on cmongethappy.com - November..I've read somewhere that it was September. While I was writing my book on DC, in 2018, I found a short review from Billlboard Magazine, October 10th, 1970 : ' Having made their TV debut, TPF featuring Shirley Jones and David Cassidy made their album debut. They have a well blended sound, and the impact on the tv series is sure to bolster their LP.'. That day, on
