'Now You And The Road Keep Flashing Through My Mind..'

Image
From  Dave Ellingson's song. Or better say David Cassidy's song, even that it was written by Kim Carnes' husband, this song belongs to David. And after 52 years also to us, his fans.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IasELb7iHo Oh yes, what a great time we had with David Cassidy. Fans followed him everywhere, travelling many miles to see him in concert or in the theatre, or just be closer to him. It was like that from the beginning. Shirley Jones several times found teenagers on her lawn, who had come from afar, often hitchhiking and without money, they loved Partridge Family, wanted to have such a mother as Shirley was, Laurie as a sister, Keith..David got letters from fans who moved to LA just because of him, who waited outside the studio, outside his house. In the 80s fans started coming from Europe, Japan and Australia, and who knows from which other countries to see him on stage. It was worth every penny. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1984August10_Ou

Double Love Seats..

A catchy title today.  David Cassidy spent a week in Japan, in March 1974. He arrived on March 21, and left on a plane to Hawaii at 10 p.m., on March 28.  'Big In Japan' is playing in my head, it's one of those songs once they stuck you can't rid of them easily. Recorded by German band, Alphaville, in 1984, it was a big hit in Europe, it's still played on our Polish radio sometimes. Btw the lyrics of that song is about drugs, and the phrase 'Big In Japan' is an idiom used to describe an artist who has success in a foreign but not in a native country.  So I'm singing a little bit and thinking how really big was David in Japan. In 1974. Maybe a song first. In an interview for Japanese radio, DC said that this song had been recorded before he started his World Tour. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiIrTJOLquU Judging by the number of David's albums released in Japan, he was a mega star there. All his solo albums recorded in the 70s were released in Japa

'David Cassidy Always a Song In Your Heart'

Image
"No matter what let's keep a song in our hearts too..' The author of a tribute video has written this. Maybe nothing special, but since I've read it, it was 2 days ago, this sentence has stuck in my mind. So let's start with a song. Today we've had the first powerful storm this season so.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_obXYFW4rU Very nice tribute video. Someone has written in a comment, 'amazing arrangment of pics', and I absolutely agree. Also the pace of them, in tune of the rhythm of the song.  And it's not easy to make a tribute video. Sure there are a lot of pics of DC, but first you should to have an idea how to show them and in what order. A few years ago I tried myself and it only looks very easy to do, so we are very grateful for all those videos on You Tube. Especially the videos with David or Partridge Family's songs or with a lot of priceless info, like those outstandings videos with DC in Japan. Perfect sound and there are als

Roller Coaster / Mark James

Image
"You got on this train when you were born and the wheels just keep on spinnin'.."  It's just amazing coincidence that 'Roller Coaster' was the last song David/Keith performed on the last TPF's episode, aired on March 23, 1974.  Of course DC didn't watch it, he was working, and first of all had a lot of fun. On March 22 he was in Tokyo, had a press conference at 12.30 p.m. and in the evening attended disco at Akasaka (according to Wikipedia it's a residential and commercial district of Minato in Tokyo). Next day, March 23 - Osaka. David stayed at Royal Hotel.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_tfCNqF8wM What a music scene it was, some pseudo Roman or Greece sculptures who knows why, Shirley smiling at George Chakiris.  What a career George Chakiris had..He is 91, a wonderful dancer, a legendary dancer. He was a dancer in Marilyn Monroe's 'Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend' number in 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes', and of course h

Singing My Song / Wes Farrell and Diane Hildebrand

'Singin' my song and they're singin' along'.. Oh yes, and people all over the world have been singing along those wonderful Partridge Family's songs for more than 50 years. And this week we have another anniversary. The last TPF's episode was aired on March 23, 1974.  50 years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BH1T7_WgqGA In many interviews from the 70s, especially after he decided to leave the show, DC complained that he'd recorded a lot of songs he didn't like. Of course we know why, he wanted to have career on his own terms, his own repertoire, The Partridge Family's music was related to his teen idol status. When he was 19, 20, 21 he liked other kinds of music. But DC always appreaciated the great musicians he worked with, was always a pro himself and proud of his work.  David Cassidy about The Partridge Family's music ( 'Could It Be Forever? ', 2007), "Everything we did was about happiness, joy, light; the songs are positi

Remember Me / Alan Tarney

This song from David Cassidy's 1985 album somehow the best sums up what I think about the 50th anniversary of DC's World Tour, and the end of Season 4 of The Partridge Family. But first Neil Sedaka's birthday. He was born on March 13, 1939, and what an amazing career. "Oh, Carol!" was a hit in 1959, 3 years before I was born. Not only a singer but also an outstanding songwriter, actually "Love Will Keep Us Together' was written by him and Howard Greenfield. Amazing story about those two.. When Neil Sedaka was 13, a neighbour heard him playing piano and introduced him to her 16-year-old son, Howard Greenfield, an aspiring poet and lyricist. And they started writing songs together. Among them 'Breaking Up Is Hard To Do'. It was a hit in 1962, and between 1970 and 1975 a top 40 hit for 3 artists, for Neil for the second time, Lenny Welch and of course for The Partridge Family. And a few days ago I saw a pic from Neil Sedaka's this year birthday p

I Would Have Loved You Anyway/ Tony Romeo

Image
In my opinion much better than ITILY, maybe my favourite Tony Romeo's song, even that there was a time when I didn't like it. It's often a great start of an exciting love affair, when we can't stand someone or something and one day..So it's me and this song. But first 'Sex Like David Cassidy'. It's been mentioned a few times in comments on my last entry. The songs about David. This is not exactly a song about him, which is a shame because the title is great, very catchy. It's a dance mix of 'I Think I Love You', and DC himself liked it. He always wanted to get to new audience, and did remixes of his old and Partridge Family's hits himself https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/DiscographyPages/SexLikeDavidCassidy.html Actually I think DC's and Craig J Snider's dance remix of 'I Think I Love You' is better and their 'Come On Get Happy' remix is truly a sensational dance number. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNCM7I69

David Cassidy "Your Magic's Worked Its Trick On Me''

Image
Or the most beautiful man ever.. The readers of my blog know that I'm a fan of the song called 'David Cassidy' written, recorded and released in February 2009 by three girls and one boy (on drums), from London and Cambridge. The band's name was 'Betty And The Werewolves'.  Wonderful, happy, full of energy indie pop, always makes me smile (and even dance). Sure those young people must have had some old relations in love with DC, and they must have heard some stories. 5000 photos of David. Great lyrics, really captures that love affair fans had with David. That collective dream. So many hoped in the 70s that somehow they would find the way to Los Angeles, to David..at least in a dream   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRFoNwddrxQ I've thought about this song recently. Because this magic still works on us, half a century later and without David. A week ago while waiting for a concert to start (and a guy with my ticket!) I was browsing my phone and found an ol

That's Rock'n'Roll / Eric Carmen

Image
Eric Carmen has died. Just a little bit older than DC. I loved 'All By Myself', it was a worldwide hit, even behind The Iron Curtain. Released in December 1975. Poor David.. he was working so hard on his first RCA album and a lot of his friends had great hits in 1975.   He also had a great single that year, 'I Write The Songs'.. Of course in 1976 I had no idea about David and his friends. Or who was really Eric Carmen. Just knew that song. 'All By Myself', so many memories.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzoazPPC7b8 Today he is remembered as the author of 'All By Myself' and 'Hungry Eyes', that second song featured in 'Dirty Dancing'. But I'm a fan of David Cassidy and everything connected with him, so forget 'Hungry Eyes'. Eric Carmen wrote 2 songs which became hits for Shaun Cassidy. The first one is 'That's Rock'n'Roll', Eric Carmen released it as a third single from his first solo album, in 1976, an

All I Wanna Do Is Touch You / Irwin Levine and L. Russel Brown

I haven't written my blog for a few days but of course DC hasn't disappeared from my life.  A very dear friend met because of David, has invited me to London and maybe I'll go in summer, and I thought about DC a lot yesterday while watching a film at the cinema. The Holdovers. The action took place in December 1970, and students at the boarding school were listening to music, the hits from that time. But not to 'I Think I Love You'..And in late December 1970 ITILY was still very high on Billboard Hot 100, and Partridge Family Album on Billboard 200 charts. This film has made me miss the 70s and I've been thinking a lot about young David Cassidy, the real world he lived in and the role he played on the show.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7D1w3GzpbY And I've been reading fans' memories. A lot of comments appear on social media in this special month in which we celebrate the 50th anniversary of David Cassidy's World Tour in New Zealand and Australia

'The Ticket of My Dreams'

Image
You are going to fall in love with this. David Cassidy in Australia. Today I have another extraordinary story for you. It has made me smile (and even laugh, braces!) and tearful and envious at the same time. Wonderful read. Emotional and even sensual.. While reading I've felt like actually was there with her. But first of all it has made me miss David Cassidy, his time has ended too soon. It still hurts. I feel very privileged that Erin's story is on my blog, and will stay here forever. Thank you xxx "One day, not long after my 14th birthday, my cousin, Jamie, told me David Cassidy was doing a tour of Australia. I excitedly searched the newspaper for information. To my utter joy, I could see David in the flesh on March 15th, 1974 by sending away a $4.20 postal money order. In return, the ticket of my dreams arrived by mail. Unlike the usual DC teasing I endured, my school friends were truly excited for me as the special Friday approached. I was the only person from my scho

'Such a Long Way Back..'

Image
David Cassidy was only 23 when he recorded 'Can't Go Home Again'. Written with friends, Kim Carnes and Dave Ellingson. It looked very long time ago for him, different life, his life before The Partridge Family.  David Cassidy, "Kim, Dave and I wrote a couple of songs together (...) 'Can't Go Home Again' was more mine. (..) It was in 1968. I had just moved back to New York from L.A. I was on a bus from Port Authority to West Orange, New Jersey. I remember leaning against the window and looking out and remembering how many times my mom had driven me the same way..I saw a couple of guys I'd known who were now married. It was really odd. I felt so out of place." Kim Carnes, "Whenever we got together to write with David, there was an ease in it. We'd all become very close friends.(..) The songs came easily. He wanted so much to be proud of his music. (..) 'Can't Go Home Again' came from a conversation we all had about what it would

David Was No Boy, No Keith

You are going to read something extraordinary.  I was sure that Lanie Bray, my FB friend from Australia, and one of the David Cassidy-Greatest Fans Group's administrators, that she could write a great entry for my blog. But her memories of seeing David Cassidy in Perth in 1974, this text has exceeded my expectations. We can feel this excitement. We can understand her feelings. He was so close and so far away..like a dream. Thank you Lanie xxx Lanie Bray "On the 15th March it will be the 50th anniversary of David's 1974 visit to Perth. Wow where have all the years gone! I was lucky enough to go to the concert which was held at the West Australian Cricket Association grounds, affectionately known as the WACA. At the time that was the only one venue large enough to house the expected throng of adoring fans. When Weronika asked if I would write about the Perth concert my immediate reaction was, oh I don't think I remember enough to write a blog. The memory of that night wa

Keith And Lauriebelle

Image
Or rather it should have been called, 'The perfect profile of David Cassidy'. Or 'David's Hair'.  I took screenshots of that episode for the website a few years ago..in awe and admiration. Amazing.  Tomorrow will be the 50th anniversary. In March 1974 the last 4 episodes of TPF were aired. 'Keith and Lauriebelle' on March 2.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90CTvqDBgNQ How long is too long. David had the longest hair on the set that's for sure, and I've read somewhere that he didn't agree to cut it. But he shorten his gorgeous hair a little bit before going on the World Tour. And of course he didn't watch this episode when it was first aired, he was in Sydney. Playing a concert for 12, 500 fans. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfsuyDD9tnE It'd be difficult to find a bigger contrast. DC in Australia, so professional, performing in difficult conditions; enormous heat, wind, a collapsing scene, fans pushing and screaming, fighting to be as c
