That's Rock'n'Roll / Eric Carmen

Eric Carmen has died. Just a little bit older than DC. I loved 'All By Myself', it was a worldwide hit, even behind The Iron Curtain. Released in December 1975. Poor David.. he was working so hard on his first RCA album and a lot of his friends had great hits in 1975.

He also had a great single that year, 'I Write The Songs'..

Of course in 1976 I had no idea about David and his friends. Or who was really Eric Carmen. Just knew that song. 'All By Myself', so many memories..

Today he is remembered as the author of 'All By Myself' and 'Hungry Eyes', that second song featured in 'Dirty Dancing'. But I'm a fan of David Cassidy and everything connected with him, so forget 'Hungry Eyes'. Eric Carmen wrote 2 songs which became hits for Shaun Cassidy.

The first one is 'That's Rock'n'Roll', Eric Carmen released it as a third single from his first solo album, in 1976, and it wasn't released in the US. Shaun's cover (with a fragment of the lyrics omitted, about roadies and shakin' hips) peaked on Billboard at nr 3 in summer of 1977.

The second song was 'Hey Deanie'. This time Shaun recorded it first, it was released in November 1977, and peaked at number 7. Eric Carmen recorded this song a year later.

David and Eric..In 1975 Eric Carmen played concert in Los Angeles and he invited some friends who watched him backstage. Why no one recorded them playing together. Eric Carmen, Gerry Beckley and David Cassidy. At least we have some pics..
