Seeing David in 'Joseph' by Judy West

Image
I'm always so happy when I can publish a fan's memory, especially with so many interesting details. And so moving and personal. This email from Judy was like a first Christmas present for me this year. Thank you so much Judy West, it's a great pleasure to have your story on my blog xxx  http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TheatrePages/JosephVideo.html "I never had the opportunity to see David in concert, but I was so happy to hear that he was doing the play, "Joseph, and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at the Royale Theater in New York! I live in New Jersey, USA, about an hour away from New York City.  My Aunt Lee, who I was very close with, used to enjoy going to plays. When I asked her if she would like to go to New York with me to see David in "Joseph," I was so happy that she said "Yes"!  We took the train into New York, and took a taxi to the theater. I was so happy and excited that I was going to see David in person!  We went into

David and The Beatles again. This time because of George Harrison. We all know about the DC's friendship with John Lennon, and he also knew Paul McCartney quite well.  In 1975 David was one of the guests invited on board the famous cruise liner, the Queen Mary, at Long Beach in California. Celebration party for the recording end of the Paul McCartney and Wings highly anticipated album, 'Venus and Mars'. After the great success of their previous album, 'Band On The Run', fans and music critics all over the world were waiting for it. Even in communist Poland. I remember when I heard 'Venus and Mars' for the first time on Polish Radio. Maybe I even read about that party, but of course had no idea DC was there.  The party took place on March 24, 1975, and thanks to Henry Diltz we have one pic from it with David, in conversation with his friends from 'America', Dan Peek and Dewey Bunnell . There were about 200 guests, amazing names. George Harrison, Bob D

In October 1973, two David Cassidy's albums were released. One very successful (in the UK), called 'Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes', and that other one, the last Partridge Family's studio album, not successful at all, called 'Bulletin Board'.  'Dreams', the first real DC's recording, his first own album, and 'Bulletin Board'...so different from the previous TPF's records, more mature sound, less pop, more rock, more R&B influenced. More like David's solo album than TPF's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AL8oxCCi-M It's not easy to write about Bulletin Board, because fans have different opinions on it. I think it was a bold attempt to change the sound of TPF, made in very unfavorable cirumstances. Everybody knew that it was probably the last album, the lead singer was tired and burned out, and wasn't on speaking terms with the producer, the album was arranged and produced in fact not by Wes Farrell, but by J

Recenty I've written a lot about Lord Montagu and The Beaulieu Tribute to David. But of course we've got another tribute in November, in Liverpool. In a very special place.  Strawberry Fields, we all know that name, immortalized by John Lennon in one of his the most famous songs.  There was a Salvation Army children's home in the grounds known as Strawberry Fields, and John's aunt Mimi's house backed on to. John Lennon used to play there when he was a kid. And now, since 2019, the place is open to the public and people from all over the world keep coming there. There are a lot of attractions, among them the John Lennon 'Imagine' piano. It was bought in 2000 for 3 million US dollars by...George Michael, who was a great The Beatles fan, and it was always George's intention that the piano should be in Liverpool. There is a great video on YT where you can see the place, some great John's and George's pics, and the famous piano.. https://www.youtube.c

It's not too soon. Actually the song originally became an instant hit in November 1934. Released at the height of Great Depression, it brought love and light, and that first version included lyrics encouraging listeners to be charitable..Something we should remember about this year too. That Christmas standard was recorded by over 200 artists, including The Partridge Family, the song from  'Christmas Card', released by Bell in ..yes, November 1971. I'm glad the info about it is on Wikipedia. And I'm happy because this is my grandsons' fav Christmas song, and all the neighbours have to listen to us singing with David.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5c75EXt38co So it's not too early, just have returned from shopping, and listened for the first time this season to..I'm sure you know what to. Every year the same, and I'm sorry for poor George Michael and his evergreen standard. He wrote it himself  in December 1983. 'Last Christmas' was release

David Cassidy Japan Tour. Chapter 7

The time after an important event is always difficult. The 5th anniversary of the day David Cassidy died was 3 days ago. Some fans (including me)  met in London,  it was great to be together just for a few hours, talking and remembering DC.  Our pics from November21st have been published, some the DC's friends have shared their memories  with us.. Time to return to reality, to the world without DC and to our daily task to keep that flame burning. Keeping his legacy alive. It's not easy, the new videos or articles don't appear every day even that we search Internet non stop looking for sth new. Thanks to Lord Montagu and Sharron Liddle we have a new tribute to David, an information board near the location of the riverbank where David went fishing with the current Lord's mum in 1973. And a new chapter from DC Japan Tour 1974 appeared 3 days ago. Maybe a song first. It has been cloudy today, the first snow this year which hasn't improved my mood..Ain't No Sunshine.

Since Friday I haven't listened to the David Cassidy's songs. A little bit unusual situation for me. Recently I've had no time for reading at all, so on my flight to London instead headphones I took a book. I was very busy in London. The 5th anniversary. Meeting with other DC's fans. Every night after returning to my hotel I went to bed right away. I didn't turn tv on, even once. But of course we all know all David's recordings by heart, and on my way home this song just started playing in my head https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utV6giIxkcw From 'Crossword Puzzle', the album released in March 1973. The final Partridge Family record to make the album charts, peaked at 167 on Billboard 200, and only for 5 weeks there. Bell Records lost its faith in the group. In 1970, 1971 and 1972 it released as many albums as possible, 7 The Partridge Family's  (including Greatest Hits) and 2 DC's solo albums. As someone wrote :'Bell Records after oversaturat

Looking For David..

I'm still in London, but just have a free hour, so want to write a few words on that special day..It hasn't been easy today, for us, the fans who met in London on that 5th anniversary. Demanding weather, wind or rain, or both..The Phoenix Garden..it will look better in spring (hope so), The Hammersmith Park closed from the side we've come. It was symbolic really that in spite of everything we kept walking and remembering this amazing man, David Cassidy.. ttps://youtu.be/Wy6cLVQUTUU In White City I couldn't stopped thinking about thousands of fans who were there on the day David played his concert in May 1974. And now after 48 years, the stadium doesn't exist anymore and just  several of middle aged fans have arrived  today. So what will be next with us and our idol, and his legacy.. https://youtu.be/6eYjWoFQKu0 Time..better not to think about it. But it was very optimistic to meet and talk, talking about DC with a fellow fan it's an amazing experience, for me at

It's not December yet, but today is very cold, there is  snow in the south of Poland, it will be very soon in Warsaw. So it's time for that wonderful, magical, amazing song wrote by 24 year old David Cassidy. All by himself, music and lyrics, and sang by him with such tenderness.. Like always with the DC's own songs, not very long, but he didn't need many words to 'paint a picture' of young love..This song is truly extraordinary, the side B of the single released in 1974. Side A, 'If I Didn't Care'. The teen idol's farewell gift. 'Her love burns inside his Heart..Lights his eyes when they're apart..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWkgbGip3s4 Yes, there was magic in his voice, it's such a shame that he didn't record more. But it's life, and besides David Cassidy first of all wanted to be an actor, at least he said so in many articles I've read..Of course he was a very good actor, and I love him on Bonanza, Ironside, F

Why We Love David Cassidy

I've been watching today the DC concert from 2012, the recent updade on the website. How not to love him. He was a great singer. June 30, 2012. South Point Casino, Las Vegas. Thank you Lucio so much for this extraordinary gift for all of us. Great editing, wonderful sound, more like a doc from a concert not just a video. Very moving pics with fans. In general you can feel like actually being there. It's so moving that it's simply impossible to watch it at one time. I couldn't. Even that it's not a whole concert, but first 52 minutes http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/ConcertPages/2012June30.html DC singing the Monkees. First heard him performing 'Valleri'. Great remix version of 'I'll Meet You Halfway', such fun for him and some lucky ladies. And to have Happy Birthday singing by DC. When he had some technical problems while playing the guitar and singing  'Ain't No Sunshine', I remembered how in 1974 in spite of the heat and those s

We've had a lot of really amazing new updates on the website recently. A new tribute, a new tv appearance and a new radio interview. Everything has taken a lot of time, and we are so grateful for those fans who worked on them and shared that new material with us. Maybe a song first. My number 1 video (recently). I don't know how many times I've watched it. To be there..Just amazing and so exciting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbdootiYryo So I've checked how our new updates going on the website. What fans think about them, maybe they have an additional info (and they have in one case). But I wasn't prepared for that. Forget Lord M. and Beaulieu tribute or the DC interview for Canadian MTV, or the radio BBC 1985 interview.  The June 1973 Tiger Beat Spectacular magazine. The link to it (scans) with one of the DC's posters from it.  More than 14k views, nearly 2k comments, and more than 1,3 shares..Wow. Once a teen idol..I haven't read comments, I know what

I was to write something else yesterday, an entry called, 'The Sound Of The Partridge Family', John B ähler had a birthday, He was born in 1940, a singer, arranger, conductor, composer and producer. The elder brother of Tom. They are two of the most recorded singers in history. It's a shame that so much of their work are not credited. They sang on hundreds of tv show themes, movie soundtracks, commercial jingles, and many songs as back and lead singers. In the 60 they had their own band, and they recorded this hit which later was re-recorded for The Partridge Family. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7NUB5rxKwQ There is an amazing, very interesting interview on www.cmongethappy.com. Tom Bahler in conversation with Scott Awley. How happened that they were hired to be at first..The Partridge Family and got royalties as a group. What they thought when Wes Farrell became a musical director and an unknown kid a lead singer. How the songs were recorded.  This is a fascinating re

The story of the latest tribute to David Cassidy is so extraordinary, uplifting..like a ray of sunshine in that difficult month, November.  I just can't find words to describe my feelings. David Cassidy's concert tour in March 1973 and his stay at Beaulieu. David remembered by the information board..His name and the year of birth and death. That visit  took place 49 years ago. This tribute makes me sad and happy at the same time. It's very emotional seeing it. A song. About sunshine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er3mY-lWdlA The David Cassidy's legendary concert tour in Europe in March 1973. The main problem was security of course. In February 1972, Dorchester where he stayed was besieged by fans, and in September 1972 he lived on a yacht. The Heathrow Airport authorities had put a ban on any announcements of expected arrivals of pop stars. It took a lot of effort to find a safe place for him while he was in the UK. The first concerts of that tour were in Germany, he w

David Cassidy in London. Such a fascinating story, I've written about it many times, also about my crazy idea writing a tour guide. 'David Cassidy in London'. 3 years ago I was thinking seriously about it. I had 'know how'. how to do it, a lot of info, I came to London in August 2019 with only one goal - to see as much places, buildings connected with DC as possible. I took a lot of pics. I walked ..a lot.  Knightsbridge, because DC lived there, in 'a little apartment near Montpelier Square', and of course I was outside The Dorchester and the Radio Luxembourg offices at Hertford Street..it was so deserted when I was there. no one, not only on the famous balcony. And BBC Broadcasting House, British Film Institute, and theaters and parks, and concert halls. Everywhere. I was even outside Riatlo Theatre. DC and Kay Lenz on March 5, 1977 attended a film premiere there, and told the whole world about their love... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5vgBJhthBA But I

'I Recently Discovered David's Music..'

Image
Her name is Isabel and she has written those words after signing the petition. Music Walk Of Fame Artist Stone Honour For David Cassidy. London Music Walk Of Fame. Isabel is one of 1181 fans who have thought (so far) that David Cassidy should be honoured that way. She wrote : 'I recently discovered David's music by chance and I think he was/is very talented and gifted. I'm in my early 20s and I hope more people from my generation take an interest..' David's music, that wonderful, magical collection of unforgettable songs, the result of tireless passion, work and talent. And perfectionism. His legacy. Whatever he sang, in every decade. No matter what. Whether it was The Partridge Family's recording or a performance in Las Vegas, or a tv guest appearance. A concert for 200 people or 40 000. Always 100 %.  Ain't No Sunshine.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=We_T5LPBuFM I like not only what, but also how she's written it. That she calls him David, like the r

November 1990..

November 25, 1972, 'Rock Me Baby' single, #11 in the UK. November 24, 1973, 'Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes', #1 in the UK for 1 week. That one must have been just wonderful, to be the best on the UK chart in the year when so many great albums were released. An American artist better than own English stars. But nothing could be compared to that success in November 1990. After 18 years the name David Cassidy appeared again on the Billboard chart. That was so rewarding. After so many disappointments, to hear an own song on the radio, watch video on MTV, be successful again in his native country. That meant a lot for David, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJMMSWJosRs It's a great song, fantastic video, and 'Lyin' To Myself' should be much higher on the list than number 27. David was in great shape. His voice so powerful and he looked like a true rock star, 'still a teen idol material' as someone wrote in one article. DC worked extremely har

November, the  month so special for us, David Cassidy's fans all over the world. And not only because of the upcoming anniversary, btw it will be a very difficult day. Someone wrote a few days ago, 'it's surreal'. Yes, 5 years and we still can't come to terms with it. Maybe a song.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wy6cLVQUTUU November was always a very busy month for David Cassidy. A lot of memorable concerts, tv appearances, also as a guest star on many tv programmes, promo tours. Today I want to write about the November 52 years ago, November 1970. The month David became a star, and his song became number 1 on the Billboard chart. The first song he ever recorded.  He didn't play concerts at the time, but he was so busy, I don't think he watched the Partridge Family's episodes aired in November 1970. 'Danny And The Mob', 'But The Memory Lingers On', 'Did You Hear the One About Danny', 'Go Directly To Jail'. Danny..those e

David Cassidy - Man Undercover. The first episode was aired on November 2, 1978. I'm so happy that during the last 2 years (or less) we've managed to gather more info about that series, also adverts for some of the episodes, press releases, photos from the set. I have my share in it too, I've taken screen shots. It wasn't easy because of bad quality of the videos on the website. And last but not least, (with Tracey Wright's help) I got from co-writer Jay Gruska, the other, longer, exciting version of the theme song. It should have been a hit.. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/DiscographyPages/HardTimes_J%20Gruska-D%20Cassidy.mp3 Wow, this is amazing, such a quality, like being in the studio with David. His voice so..powerful, mature and sexy. I'm so proud of myself and so grateful. Thank you Jay Gruska. I've written about David Cassidy-Man Undercover series many times, and like the rest of us I return to it from time to time, even if it's not so easy

But first Happy Birthday Timothy B. Schmit (btw B. is for..Bruce).  As always, I'm late a little bit, he had birthday on October 30, and now (difficult to believe), he is 75. He nearly died 10 years ago because throat and neck cancer. Ex Poco and The Eagles of course, a songwriter, vocalist and bassist. The DC's friend..once. David recorded his song in 1979, better than the Poco's original (in my opinion of course). I love this song and first of all the David's interpretation. It's so ..cool and laid-back. Wonderful. One day I will make a video with that song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwPdyNVp3oI So the comment. Maybe I shouldn't write about it, blame.. the leaves. We've had a great weather today and I've been fighting with the leaves in my garden. I have two huge oak trees,  I have no choice..So I've been raking, enjoying the company of some squirrels, woodpeckers and my own stray cat. (The cat lives in my garden, let me feed him, and sometim

Today the transcript of a conversation from the Bret Easton Ellis Show has been published.  The interview with Quentin Tarantino. Both of them born in the 60s (QT in 1963), they have talked a lot how it was  wonderful to be a teen in the 70s. The joy of going to cinema, a lot of great, really important movies, everybody watched them. Quentin Tarantino : 'Even in elementary school we talked about movies we saw.'.  So true, I remember the same. TV was also important, a lot of the shows being watched by whole families. Now it's hard to imagine something like that.  And music, Quentin Tarantino again :  'The pop sound of The Partridge Family, which I appreciate to this day. I actually think David Cassidy is one of the most underrated vocalist in rock history..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSExKeJlc3Q Just wonderful, the music, the sound, and the David Cassidy's singing. His joy. I love this song so much. Here is he link to that conversation https://unherd.com/20
