The Last Kiss And..Young Love

Image
I've been listening to 'Romance' album recently. I'm not a fan of all the tracks, there are two songs which in my opinion could have been different and better, 'Someone' and 'Tenderly'. I have some English friends who have told me many times that one day I fell in love with those songs. I love this video, David in a fabulous suit singing 'Someone'.  What a man, what a performer.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AS3DUlY4t_0 Why David Cassidy recorded such album? How Alan Tarney became his producer? How that collaboration looked like? Why he toured only the UK? There are many questions, David Cassidy wrote a little bit in his autobiography, but not everything of course. In one of the articles from 1985 he said his comeback was also his new wife inspiration. "One night we were dancing cheek to cheek and I was singing very softly to her ear. She told me that I had such a wonderful voice that it was such a shame to waste it." Charming and so

Rosa's Cantina / David Cassidy, Bryan Garofalo

Image
This fabulous song was written by David Cassidy and Bryan Garofalo, a very talented guitarist and bassist from Canada. A session musician who later worked with some good David's friends, the boys from 'America', and..Kim Carnes.  Wonderful music, makes you want to get up and dance, brilliant lyrics. David Cassidy was a very good lyricist himself, he didn't need many words to convey the mood, create an image. He learnt from the best. I think it was DC who wrote the lyrics of that wonderful song, a very good one for today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sp97MhR8ZCU Amazing, you can just imagine those young guys, in 1976, working together at Caribou Ranch and having fun. They were young, very attractive and famous. They were friends.  And today is The International Day Of Friendship. Truly speaking I'm not a fan of those special days, every day there is something, more or less important. When I was a kid we had to celebrate for example the anniversary of the Soviet Re

Touched By Lighting / Alan Tarney, David Cassidy.

First a song. From "Romance' album, about being struck by lighting, electric shock and excitement https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ja0Ei7MHoM What an amazing performer David Cassidy was. I've thought about this song in the morning while reading comments about AI and its possibilities for us, the David Cassidy's fans. I've talked about it later with some friends and not everybody knows what it is. They will know soon, there is no escape from it. My friend, who is a lecturer at one of our best universities has told me they already have problems with fake diploma thesis, it's just the beginning, and no one can imagine how the world will change because of AI. Maybe another song, written in those ancient times when people still wrote letters. This is one of my favourite songs from that album, and what a great video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxhRzr7_O78 Of course we all are so excited when a new pic is discovered, we are waiting impatiently for the Henry Dil

Take It To The Limit / Randy Meisner, Don Henley, Glen Frey

David Cassidy's voice. So distinctive, soulful, breathy..magical. When he was young his voice was so sincere and moving, full of hope and joy when he sang 'Could It Be Forever?', or despair with 'My First Night Alone Without You', because only young people feel emotions so deeply, and a heartbreak is like the end of the world. Now when we listen to those songs they make us think about the time when we were young too.  Later  his voice kept changing with passing years, it was deeper, mature, but for me it didn't lose that magic to the end. I can't explain why, but I love the most the DC's voice  when he was in his late 20s and early 30s.  When I listen to David singing the songs he recorded in 1978, or those from 'The Partridge Family/Three Sons Reunion, the theme song from 'Man Undercover' or 'Any Dream Will Do' ..I know I would follow that voice everywhere, I can't describe it better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkM6skKUD04&a

David And His Housekeeper. A Short Story

Image
I've received a few emails asking me to write more short stories.  It's very flattering, that in my self-taught English, and being myself dyslexic, I've managed to write stories which some David Cassidy's fans have liked. However it's not easy to write something not banal, cheesy or in poor taste.  So I have nothing new, but only yesterday while throwing away old papers and calendars I found something I completely forgotten about. It's because it was written during the worst holiday I've ever had. Actually at the time I had a nervous breakdown. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F__G0U8GmrM It was in December of 2021, and being in a really bad condition physically and mentally, on the spur of the moment, I decided for 2 week holiday in Egypt, just before Christmas. Already when we landed I didn't want to leave the plane, I felt I had made a horrible mistake. And it was a nightmare.  First of all it was still very hot, even the sea was too warm for my liking

'Which '70s Heartthrob Posed Nude For..'

Image
I've wanted to write today about the article from New York Times. It was published yesterday with the title. "Yes, Shaun Cassidy Is Still Dreamy". Written by a Shaun's fan of course, her name Lily Burana, she had a big crush on him at school, and after many years recently attended his concert. David has been mentioned too, just a few words; a half-brother, a teen idol before Shaun, died of liver failure. And that Shaun paid a moving tribute to him. That's all.  The article is first of all about nostalgia and whether is good or bad that we still care about our old idols. I've never thought about Shaun Cassidy as being dreamy, Or that he had a great voice. I've never been his fan. Maybe because for me he wasn't dreamy like his older half brother.. And when I've returned home after my daily knee rehabilitation, a very nice surprise was waiting for me, something which has made me smile even before I opened the package from America. Btw I'm a very w

Our Teen Idols

Image
First one more time, '..can't stop dreaming about you..', but we love only one of them.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCjnepKPMZg Bobby Sherman had birthday yesterday, He is 80 now, I didn't hear about him when I was a teen, in the late 60s when he was the most popular I was too young, and besides American teen idols weren't good enough for us, couldn't be role models for teens in a communist country. Of course we had our Polish pin up boys, but my own first idol was English, and very, very old. I think I was 12 when I fell in love with Paul McCartney, his music, voice, eyes. My dad was just 6 months older than him.  David singing Paul McCartney. A masterclass for anyone who would like to become a rock star or a teen idol. The timeless David Cassidy's performance.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vsuhi6UnX-k Later was Eric Stewart from 10cc, another Englishman, a little bit younger (born in 1945). The last one was in undercover, because at the time I had

Daydreamers

Image
'Daydreamer' was the only song David Cassidy didn't choose himself for his third solo album, 'Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes'. His producer, Rick Jarrard played it for him, and they both knew the song had a great hit potential.  Wrote by Terry Dempsey, sang by a teen, 15 year old Lauren Copley, like the songwriter also from South Africa. She had such a wonderful, sweet voice and her 'Daydreamer' was so sad, a lonely teenage girl with a broken heart was crying. The end of the world for her.  It's very moving.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xnqz-8W6AMg So the David Cassidy's 'Daydreamer' was a cover, most fans have no idea about it, because it was his version which became a hit, and number 1 song in the UK, for 3 weeks, in October and November of 1973. It was different than the original. He was not a teen, but 23 year old man who experienced some heartbreaks, and his 'Daydreamer' was not so sad; yes, melancholic, as if he had

Rock Me Baby or Writing About David Cassidy

Image
First a song. This one  is playing in my head today, Madonna was really good, but David Cassidy..Just listen to the lyrics, isn't that song about him? Who could say..'no'. No one I think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBqK_BP1jis Amazing.  I have a good FB friend, Laurie Eby, she is a wonderful person and I appreciate her friendship and kindness very much. She always writes comments about my blogs, and they make me think and inspire me. She is every bloger dream reader, very kind and eager to praise, what's more she also has her own strong opinions on DC as a man and an artist, and she can write about it in very interesting way. A few times she's asked how I find time to write new entries so often.  A song. For Laurie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AK5AQzoRG4 It's true that like every happily retired person, I'm extremely busy. I have a lot of responibilities, friends and hobbies. Always more work ahead of me than behind me, I'm grateful for it, lif

Can't Go Home Again / David Cassidy, Kim Carnes and Dave Ellingson

Image
There is an article on The David Cassidy Official Website, written by a rock journalist Michael Wale, published on The Times on July 30, 1973, 50 years ago.  One of the best articles on the David Cassidy's phenomenon in the 70s.  "They told me they could just find one in the street, and they could pick him up and put him in magazine and he would become a star." David, as it was often in the 70s, was very sincere and very aware of his situation. The whole article is  worth reading, but the main reason I'm writing about it today is one sentence from Michael Wale, "...he had just completed a recording session with his new producer Rick Jarrard who produced Jefferson Airplane and Nilsson's first album. A very different type of producer from Wes Farrell, the highly skilled hitmaker.." https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/InPrintPages/News1973July30.html So 50 years ago, in July of 1973 that outstanding album, 'Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes'

Morning Rider On The Road / Tony Romeo

Image
The credit should have been plural. Tony Romeo and David Cassidy, because without DC's voice and his interpretation, the song wouldn't be so special.  At the beginning he is resigned, just telling us a story of his heartbreak, and him being always on the road in search for happiness or at least satisfaction, and.."All at once I met you and you stop me in my tracks', and we can hear and feel his joy.. Tony Romeo found just a perfect singer for his love songs. And I've found this very moving video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9N1zbQyfCk Of course I've written about this song many times, as the readers of my blog know I'm a little obsessed with Tony Romeo, he was such an underrated songwriter and record producer. It's difficult to find more info, so I've been very happy when recently Eamon Cataquiz (on TPF Group) wrote about 'The Trout', and its album released in 1968. The group members were Cassandra Morgan, Frank Romeo and his brother To

Rainmaker / Wes Farrell, Jim Cretecos and Mike Appel

Image
Those guys wrote together some amazing songs. They also had a perfect singer in David Cassidy, who even at the age of 20 knew everything about passion, love and heartbreakes. He had a magical voice and knew how to sing a love song. 'And I know more than me she loved the rain..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poLSrXjhOxY Strange girl. Wes, Jim and Mike also wrote 'Umbrella Man', this time it was a love story with a good ending. Hope so. Today's entry is not very sophisticated or meaningful. My part of Europe is again a victim of a heat wave, another one this summer, and I'm sitting at home and dreaming about cloudy skies and rain. And because everything (almost) reminds me of David and his music...Actually he recorded quite a lot of songs with rain in the title. Another Partridge Family's number about a girl who didn't want Keith/David. Season 1, episode 20.  What's more we don't  have a music scene with David with this song.  When that episode w

Like Father, Like...Daughter

First a song, today something so special, Tony Romeo's. One of the most memorable music scene from The Partridge Family. Great DC's performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewupI8YlIOo Families..I try not to write about David Cassidy's private life, but we can't understand him, what kind of man he had become, the choices he made, without knowing if only the most important things about his family. And what a family it is. He was born for showbusiness and as a kid and a teenager he never thought about other career. It was the only life he knew. From very early age he also knew that for any actor his own career was the most important thing. More than a family.   And I can absolutely relate to this. We can call it destiny, fate..whatever. In my family everyone had an academic or scientific career. We read ..less talked. We always looked for answers in books. In my home books were everywhere and I could read fluently when I was 5. It was only when I graduated from The Wa

Some People Say I Talk Too Much..'

Image
David Cassidy said this in one of the interviews from 2015. But talking, showing up, telling his story was a very important part of his work. I wrote yesterday about David Cassidy's TV guest appearance on 'Alive and Well' from 1982, and of course when I published that entry I started watching other videos. Amazing.  There are more than 600 TV programs listed on The David Cassidy Official Website, different kinds, including the most famous American and British talk shows, morning programs, music, game and children shows, on which David guest starred during his long career.  He was interviewed by the most known tv personalities, he talked and sang, he entertained the audience, hugged the fans, even cooked..He was asked the same questions all over again. He promoted his music, his shows, his work. And it only looks so easy, because most of those shows had scripts, there were rehearsals, make up, it was another demanding, acting task.  And yesterday night I saw some forgotten v

David Cassidy on 'Alive And Well'

A song first. I've been searching for something showing David's fitness, we know what he could do on stage in the 70s.  He was also in great shape in the 90s. In many articles from 1990 and 1991 we can read that he still was a heartthrob material, and didn't look his age.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRiYz4oSzMw I've thought about it for personal reasons, let's say that being fit in spite of many health problems is very important for me at this phase of my life. For David Cassidy being fit was essential, a part of his job, we also know he had a lot of health problems and injuries during his career. And I've thought about this interview we have on the DC Official Website.  https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1981AliveAndWell.html I think David didn't feel very comfortable during that conversation, or he couldn't concentrate, his wonderful laugh ..a little bit strained and too much. The interview looks like it wasn't very well prepared

Sunshine/ Wes Farrell, Danny Janssen and Bobby Hart

It has been difficult to find the right title for today's blog, and at last I've found one, a song with the lyrics, 'you can give without receiving.' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-Vg0j7QqcU Isn't just fabulous..With such a voice (and easy on the eyes and much more), David Cassidy should have recorded one album after another in the 70s. Such a waste of his talent that only 8 years later he had to appear for money on "Love Boat" or "Fantasy Island'..But let's get to the topic. We've had an awful weather today, such an enormous heat, free sauna for everybody, difficult to do something, and I have a lot to do..what's worse everything irritated me. Even posts published on the DC groups. Why fans have to discuss all over again David's taste for the women in his life, and everyone knows better..Of course it's a free world (still) and I don't have to read fans' comments. Maybe one more song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=
