Can't Go Home Again / David Cassidy, Kim Carnes and Dave Ellingson

There is an article on The David Cassidy Official Website, written by a rock journalist Michael Wale, published on The Times on July 30, 1973, 50 years ago.

One of the best articles on the David Cassidy's phenomenon in the 70s.
"They told me they could just find one in the street, and they could pick him up and put him in magazine and he would become a star."

David, as it was often in the 70s, was very sincere and very aware of his situation. The whole article is  worth reading, but the main reason I'm writing about it today is one sentence from Michael Wale, "...he had just completed a recording session with his new producer Rick Jarrard who produced Jefferson Airplane and Nilsson's first album. A very different type of producer from Wes Farrell, the highly skilled hitmaker.."

So 50 years ago, in July of 1973 that outstanding album, 'Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes' was recorded.

A lot of people became great, die hard David's fans because of that album. They liked him, his two first solo records, TPF's music, but they really fell in love with David after listening to his first, own concept album. It was so deeply personal, so different than anything he ever recorded. Even his voice sounded different, more mature, sincere and personal. It was a grown up David Cassidy, a man not a boy.

David said about this album that if people didn't like it, they didn't like him.

The album was a hit in the UK. To have a number 1 album in England in 1973, in the year so special in the history of music, that was an outstanding achievement.

It was 50 years ago, and now only we, his fans remember it. Of course there are a lot of great singers, wonderful songs from the 70s completely forgotten now, that's the way it is. In the case of this album it's really a shame, because David Cassidy not only told/sang us about his innermost desires and dreams, but he managed to make them universal. He made us dream too. Only the best can do it.
