David, Elliot and ..Sal.

Image
I've been listening to this song today.. https://youtu.be/b8CgweFVwio?si=Eod9Z8TBEPOqiLVR And now a trailer of the film released 58 years ago, I wonder if David had been at that film premiere, in Los Angeles, in June of 1965. https://youtu.be/2wlGJ_j0viE?si=8sB3rFBvM3cm7Nwv I loved 'Cat Ballou', it was on our TV during Christmas in the early 70s. I wanted to look like Jane Fonda and was a leader of a gang. I was 11 years old. 'Cat Ballou' is listed as the 10th greatest western of all time. Lee Marvin got an Academy Award for his role. Nat King Cole's final film appearance. Directed by Elliot Silverstein, at the time teenage David Cassidy's stepfather. He died a few days ago, it wasn't a very big news, his last film was released in 1994. But he was very respected and worked on many projects. Elliot Silverstein was 96 years old. He was DC's stepfather just for a few years, and it was not the best time to develop something more between them, a stronger

All Because of You / Sue Shifrin, Jon Lind

From David Cassidy self titled album released in 1990. I think, that's my opinion of course, that instead of  this song, DC should have recorded 'Crazy Over You', but he was in love, he worked with Sue on this album and last but not least the way he sings..'I can't sleep at night' makes me always.. envious. https://youtu.be/ATn-z4PDi_I?si=AUuIZd0t7tLN8ngD Great song. It was a bad timing, Cher recorded it for her multi platinum album 'Heart Of Stone' in 1989. But nevertheless, DC's rare duet, in that case with his soon-to-be third wife, was very good. But this is an entry not about DC and Sue, but a TV show which have never been made, working title, 'All Because of You'. Blame Lanie Bray, one of the administrators of David Cassidy - Greatest Fans Group. Yesterday she posted some iconic pics of those two, DC and Susan Dey... https://youtu.be/5AL8oxCCi-M?si=B0BfzyUR5cgHzANe And today while walking on the beach I've been thinking about why no

A song first. No one could sing about love like David Cassidy. About every stage of it.  Falling in love, being in love and also about witnessing and experiencing the end of it.  'Livin' a Lie' is one of the saddest song co-written by David (with Gerry Beckley). One of my favourites, it gets me anytime I listen to it. The music, the lyrics, their voices.. https://youtu.be/gWXx03VFVsY?si=b6exINHdJJWmOxUJ My FB friends know that wherever I go I take a DC picture with me. I put it on a bedside table in every hotel room I stay, at home, in Poland, or abroad. It's become a kind of talisman, charm, it's something connected me with my home. I have a big family and besides I wouldn't have liked strangers seeing pics of my loved ones, but David's is perfect for that purpose, it gives me a confidence. I love it. Another outstanding David's vocal performance from his last RCA's album. https://youtu.be/SchoM1IdOrc?si=46sZ_D_Vr94ewVbB My FB friend, Anne Downey

The Entry Nr 700 or With David Cassidy On the Beach

Image
I'm on holiday at Turkish Riviera, great place, wonderful beach and the sea, but this night it has been raining all night long, still is very windy, so while drinking excellent mint tea, I've decided to have a look how my blog is going on, and realised that since December 2020, I've written 699 entries, and my blog had nearly 200k views.. A song first. There is something magical in walking on the beach and listening to David Cassidy..Like rediscovering his songs again, each one sounds so fabulous, better, difficult to decide on only one, but because he's crushing through my mind like waves.. https://youtu.be/hqBc549rcF4?si=J_3aL2FkyIhipjnm My blog..I've started writing it in one of the darkest moments of my life, and it was like DC himself gave me that idea, his helping hand. The most popular is the entry called 'Kay Lenz. An Actress.', nearly 1,4k views, but for me the most important are those about his music, while writing them I've learnt so much not

You Are The First One / Barney Robertson

I still haven't found anything about the author of this song, and even the title is not certain, sometimes it's 'You Are The First One', sometimes it's in the past tense. Anyway  David Cassidy was singing it so beautifully and dreamy, the video is great, and yes, he was our first one.. Maybe 50 years ago we didn't know how to describe our feelings, and we didn't know what feelings actually he evoked in us, by the songs he was singing and of course the way he looked..And we didn't really know what it was we wanted from him. But yes, I remember so well when I first heard 'How Can I Be Sure', like a completely new, exciting world suddenly materialized..and I wanted more. He showed us that love is the most important thing in life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV70Fcu8OiY Somehow this 6th anniversary is more difficult than it was last year. For me at least. One of the reasons is that tomorrow I'm going away for a while, I'm leaving my home,

I've never written about this song. Difficult to believe really. From 'Crossword Puzzle', but first of all this song is very memorable because of the great music scene from the episode 16, Season 3, filmed in 1972, and first aired on January 19, 1973. 'Trial of Partridge One'. This is one of my favourite Partridge Family's episode, really interesting plot, David and Susan had an opportunity to show their acting skills. A lot of scenes outside the Partridges' house and one very memorable in Susan's bedroom.. They looked so wonderful, both of them. Susan was in a happy relationship with Dale McRaven, she looked so gorgeous and healthy. And David..I just have no words to describe 22 year old David Cassidy's beauty. I've written synopsis and taken screenshots of that episode for The David Cassidy Official Website..A lot of screenshots. I just couldn't decide and sent Jane all of them. Nearly 40. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h98MKT_x6dU Yes..Th

'The Secret Of David's Success'

Image
First the song. At the beginning of this video visibly moved David Cassidy says that it was his best song and it was recorded 22 years ago (actually 23).  On this Tuesday we will celebrate the 53rd anniversary of the biggest success of his career. The first song he ever recorded became number 1 in the US. Many years later it was the last song he ever performed live, in March 2017. David Cassidy singing 'I Think I Love You' on This Is Your Life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5LgJ7LQjzI I've been browsing today 'David Cassidy Annual 1975'. Interesting, a book published in 1974 for the UK market. Great quality, printed in Netherlands actually. It's a pity that we don't know the circulation of it. With a letter from David, how he likes London and first of all his British fans. Quizzes, games, comics (with DC of course),  recipes (for a surprise party for David!) some serious articles (with priceless tips), 'How David Wants You To Look..' or 'Are Y

He Brings Out My Romantic Side

First wonderful Partridge Family's 'White Christmas'. Yesterday we had the first snow this season and now everything looks magical. It's not too soon for this song, because actually The Partridge Family Christmas Card was recorded in summer of 1971, and released in November. The most popular Christmas album of 1971. That record is played in my house on Christmas Eve and we all love this charming video and David Cassidy's magical young voice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKF9K1FnC0Q I haven't planned to write anything special on November 21st, on the sixth anniversary. I've written quite a lot of entries about missing David, how we still need him, what I did and where I was when had read about his passing.. About the shock. And even once Jane, our webmaster asked me to write something for the David Cassidy Official Website on one of the anniversaries, and I wrote a very emotional letter to David.  So I've thought I have nothing more to add. After all I&

Go Now / Larry Banks and Milton Bennett

Image
I've listened to 'Rock Me Baby' today in my car, it's helped me to return home, we've had first snow, very heavy one, and of course, like always, everybody been surprised by it.  What a wonderful song 'Go Now' is, wrote in the early 60s. First released in January 1964, by Larry Banks's former wife Bessie. 'Go Now' was written for her, and that original version is really very good. Great voice, dramatic interpretation.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prlWGe2EHro But as we, David Cassidy's fans know too well, life and especially show business are not fair. Moody Blues added an exlamation mark (Go Now!) and recorded it in the same year, 1964. The single was released in the UK in November. And it was Denny Laine who after hearing Bessie Banks' version, convinced the band to record that song. It became number 1 in the UK, and number 10 in the USA. Now people don't remember (I've learnt about it only today) that Moody Blues' 'G

David Cassidy In Concert

Image
I'm watching today one of the recent David Cassidy Official Website's update. David Cassidy playing concert at Seaport World Trade Center in Boston MA. It was on October 29, 2011. DC was the same age as I'm now. He looked so gorgeous, full of energy, so sexy, boyish..The women (and men) were screaming. It's so extremly moving watching it just a few days before November21, I have to take breaks, I can't watch it at one go. So emotional. Thank you Lucio and other fans for this wonderful video. And pics. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/ConcertPages/2011October29Lucio.html The beginning of that concert is breathtaking and captivaiting, I simply can't find words. Sensational. C'mon Get Happy and Crossroads. This is a classic blues-rock number, wrote in 1937, and Eric Clapton and Cream popularized it in the late 60s. DC loved Clapton, his music and guitar playing, and he performed that song on stage sometimes  in the 70s. And after 2010. David Cassidy played

Cassidy Live! and Crossword Puzzle

I usually have a new entry ready in my head before I start writing it down. But sometimes it's completely different from what I have planned. Yesterday I started writing an entry called 'Things We Know About DC', but somehow it's changed into a blog about..Cardiff and the albums I've bought there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHeOVy8tc7g When I was in Cardiff in September, my friend B. took me to Kellys Records at the balcony of Cardiff Market, it was really something. It's an independent record store founded in 1969 and I have never seen before so many vinyls in one place. It was like turning back time really, especially that there were a lot of young people browsing, and the 70s fashion is in vogue again.. Amazing. I bought Cassidy Live! with a poster, and Crossword Puzzle. Both in excellent condition. It was such a joy to listen to them after returning home, and I put a folded poster on my bedroom's wall.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy2pxP9Y5Do I

'David Cassidy ..Climbing High With New Album'

Image
What a shame this pic is so bad, Of course  I know other pics with DC looking down from that building at his fans, but not this particular one. I have been trying to do something with it, brighten it, reduced contrast, but it's not better.  Today's entry is about the new/old review of 'The Higher They Climb'  I got from my friend B. Let's start with the opening song from that album, David's own, just a fragment of it but so spectacular. From Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode called 'Career Move', first aired on May 22, 1988. David looked sensational in it. What did David Cassidy think about performing his own song while playing that former rock star Joey Mitchell..That he used to perform for much bigger crowds, even more enthusiastic..It must have been a strange and difficult experience for him. And I've just discovered a new, great copy of Career Move. I'm sooo happy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NOr_dfOoS0 David was fantastic. Besides '

I'll Leave Myself a Little Time / Steve Dossick

This is an entry about words and new/old articles on David, which have brought me a lot of joy and gladness. What a wonderful word 'gladness' is. Quite old actually, I love reading about the origin of words, and I've learnt a lot of new ones since I became David Cassidy's fan. Everything is easy for those from the English speaking countries, but I started learning English at high school, just 2 hours a week, very basic, and we didn't have books or magazines in English, so everything I know I've learnt all by myself.  And David's songs, the lyrics, it's such joy to read them especially those he wrote himself. He didn't need many words to describe his feelings or tell a story in a song. 'Rot all day in the sun but just soon as the evening come kiss our ladies goodbye we ain't gonna make it home tonight boys the drinks are on me..' This is just an extraordinary song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sp97MhR8ZCU Let's return to 'gladne

'Billy and Blaze' And Some Other Books

Image
First a very special video. A lot of outstanding DC's pics and a fragment from 'Blue Peter', but someone else is singing. The lyrics, just like for us, remembering David Cassidy even more in November.. Written by Tim Hardin (1941-1980),  a folk and blues songwriter, one more amazing man I got to know because of being David Cassidy's fan.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpqb4x6zHoA I was talking with Mary Anthony about books a few days ago. It was very interesting for me (a former librarian), also because I'd love to know more about American literature, and of course our conversation made me think of David and books.  Now no one would ask a teen idol what he liked reading, but 50 years ago David sometimes was asked such a question. And I've read in one interview, I think it was from 1970, that his favourite book was Hermann Hesse's 'Steppenwolf', which has made me laugh really, because that was what most young people said in the late 60s and 70s, me

Hurt So Bad / Teddy Randazzo, Bobby Weinstein and Bobby Hart

Image
Hurt So Bad. One of my favourite David Cassidy's songs. It has been playing in my head today. It's because of Maya James (thank you!), my FB friend, who yesterday posted on our DC Great Britain Legacy Group the pic with the DC's single, 'Hurt So Bad/Once A Fool. It was released in 1979, but went unnoticed.  The song was written by Teddy Randazzo, Bobby Weinstein and Bobby Hart, first recorded in 1965. It was a Top 10 hit and let's listen to the original, it's really moving performance. Little Anthony and the Imperials. I'd have never known that group if it hadn't been for David. The things I've learnt because I'm DC's fan... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSF2oLgyV5M Great song and on Wikipedia we can find quite a long list of artists who covered it. But David's name is not listed. Btw it's made me think of creating an account and start editing Wikipedia. And add David's name in places where it should be. The most famous is Linda

Junked Heart Blues / David Cassidy

I haven't listened to this song for quite a long time. And haven't watched this video..I have saved it for November.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6QGYBCU4pI This is not to watch and listen to every day. It makes me..there are so many feelings, I'm sure my fellow fans understand me perfectly. Pure delight. Bliss. The way he looked. How it's possible a man could have been so beautiful and perfect. But I also know that it was 47 years ago, in quite different world, in another century. The song itself. The music and that lyrics..'leave me gently..' How anyone could have left him, but it's also resonates with me and I think about the time I was left and it wasn't gently. One more very poignant song from that great album, 'Gettin' It In The Street'. I love it. 'And it doesn't really matter anymore..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lasrK2vtqc8 November is such a meaningful month for us, David Cassidy's fans. The beginning and t

David Cassidy In Popular Culture

Image
It's such a fascinating topic to work on, worth a separate book, and serious research. Not just a page on the DC Official Website. A very extensive, interdisciplinary topic. Just to gather all info, all articles, screenshots, videos, recordings and pics, and somehow classify them. It'd  have needed a lot of work.  We have songs about David, and they are not only from the 70s. I just love this one, always makes me smile, written by young people, the band was formed in 2007. Energetic music and what the lyrics..'Los Angeles is a long way from Ruislip..they told me that but I'm still sure I'd make it'..'David Cassidy your magic's worked  its trick on me..'.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRFoNwddrxQ There are poems written for and about him. And David's posters in films set in the 70s. And David or Partridge Family talked about in films made in every decade. His music in adverts. David himself recorded a few jingles. I always loved M&M's.

You Are Always On My Mind / Tony Romeo

Image
Tony Romeo's and David Cassidy's masterpiece. Great song, music and lyrics, the arrangement, backing harmonies, but first of all it was DC's vocal, his interpretation which made that song a true classic. His emotions..It's hard to listen to it without being moved. David Cassidy, "I also really liked 'You Are Always on My Mind'. I loved the first line. 'Wake up in the morning feeling all right, 'til I recall you're gone from my life, and I stare like a dummy against the wall.' That was such a great hook. I loved that song and I've never done it live." (David Cassidy : 'Could It Be Forever? , 2007, p. 85 I wonder why he didn't and why he wrote about it. Because it was too emotional for him..I don't know. From Up To Date album, released on February 12, 1971. Season 1, Episode 21 'Partridge Up a Pear Tree' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yc2LdAbrY4A I talked with my close FB friend Mary Anthony yesterday, about new M

Brown Eyes or What's Your Favourite Song?

Image
Shannon Rigney Malbon, from David Cassidy - Greatest Fans asked fans about David's favourite songs, I think it was two days ago.  I just love when fans write about their most loved DC's songs. This time quite a few fans chose Brown Eyes. Written By Wes Farrell and Danny Janssen, a hit from 'Sound Magazine'.  It was used in the episode #4 called 'Undergraduate' from the most popular Season 2, was first aired on October 8, 1971. 2 years ago I took screenshots of that episode for David Cassidy Official Website. That was an amazing experience, I took at least 40, and sent Jane to decide and choose. I couldn't. The way he looked, it was something absolutely mesmerising, This is the link to the screenshots which were finally included in the website. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/TPF_S2_E4.html 'Brown Eyes' was a wonderful pop song, and at last David was singing in his own magical voice, He was already a great pop singer at 21. And he san

How Long Is Too Long..

or 'David's hair couldn't be too long.' Just amazing how his hair looked in that music scene. Centre and front it was, his very long, very shining hair.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90CTvqDBgNQ I've watched it today, because  exactly 50 years ago  this episode was first aired. The Diplomat. With Richard Mulligan and of course Pat Harrington Jr., such an amazing man (I've read about him a lot, what a life he had). Pat Harrington was twice on The Partridge Family, first as Harry in 'Danny And The Mob', aired on November 6, 1970. He met with David again, in 1980, on The Love Boat..He played Prince Hassan. I bet they had a great fun together on and off the set. And there is a new, just of wonderful quality copy of that episode, and..wow DC and those gorgeous girls..to be one of them..I've been carried away a little bit watching today David with moustache.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9M4Dz8IVUYE But let's return to How Long Is Too Long. 'I'm Trying To Make Him Vulnerable..'

Image
45 years ago, the first episode of 'David Cassidy-Man Undercover' was aired on NBC. 'Running the Hill'. I feel so emotional about this series. I know all those episodes so well, watched them many times, also because I was asked to take screen shots for the website of some of the episodes. While taking them I could see how making this show was difficult for DC.. And Jay Gruska sent me the longer, full version of Hard Times, Hard Crimes. It was metaphysical experience for me, listening to this song for the first time, knowing that I was the only person in the world (except Jay Gruska of course) who knew about this track. It was like David Cassidy himself gave it to me. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/DiscographyPages/HardTimes_J%20Gruska-D%20Cassidy.mp3 Amazing. Wonderful theme song, great music, the lyrics explaining everything what we should know about this Police Officer, Dan Shay. In 1974 DC said that he would never do a TV series again, but after the success of

That's the Way It Is With You / Harriet Schoch

How it's possible that I've never written about this song. The last from the last Partridge Family's album. 'Bulletin Board' was released in October of 1973, 50 years ago. It should have been David Cassidy's own album, because it was his voice, his interpretations, his sense of humour which dominated this album, so different from any previous Partridge Family's recordings. David, his voice, stands front and center.  There were also new musicians playing on this record. Like Joe Porcaro, whose 3 sons achieved in the next decade worldwide success with their band Toto. Or great Michael Omartian, who played the same year on 'Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes'. And of course Wes Farrell produced this album only on paper. They weren't on speaking terms any longer. The producer and his star. This young inexperienced boy, who at the beginning had to do what he was told, but in 1973 became not only a superstar, but also a very conscious musician h
