"David's Greatest Gift For Us Was His Music'

Image
I didn't write anything yesterday. Nothing unusual, sometimes Im very busy, the  real life is always first. But yesterday was still raining, so cold, no gardening, just housework, shopping and watching Roland Garros (tennis), and I was sure I would write in the evening about Jesus Christ Superstar for my blog. About David as Jesus and Nicolette Larson as Maria Magdalena. She died too young, only 45, in 1997. And in 1979 she had quite a hit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpFfjWdhROU Wow..can you imagine those two together on stage. It was an amazing, great production of JCS at the Starlight Theatre, in Kansas City, in June 1984. And a great disappointment when nothing came out of  going on tour with it. So much hard work and just 6 performances. Of course Starlight Theatre is huge, outdoor venue, it can seat nearly 8000 spectators. For David, the role of Jesus  was a great challenge.  'I've never been at the center of a production with a cast of 150, much less playing Jesus

I've never written about this extraordinary David Cassidy's live recording from 1974. Because I've thought I don't know enough about American music. David Cassidy made one extremely exciting number from two songs - one blues standard and the Little Richard's hit from 1957. Everything has looked so complicated to write about.  And that lyrics..'you made me love you' and 'won't you go along with me..'(btw what a question, who wouldn't). What an extraordinary, exciting live performer David Cassidy was. This recording always makes me want to jump up and dance and scream. And his voice. Dave Thompson :'few period live albums come even close to capturing its excitement'...Stephen Porter : 'Cassidy is a brilliant live performer (..) more importantly, I have never heard a live album with a crowd reaction like the one you can hear on Cassidy Live!. It's phenomenal.' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmEI3TACeNU Amazing. And yesterday

David And..Sheena

Image
I found that article yesterday just while searching for something else. A publicity photo caught my attention. David and Sheena Easton, we know how that story ended, you can't find much chemistry in that pic, but a lot about that 'mutual excitement' was written in the article. You can read it here. (and see the pic) http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/InPrintPages/Mag2000February.html Of course it was just the beginning of that project. The show 'At the Copa', another David Cassidy - Don Reo joint venture, was performed at Rio Hotel, (in Las Vegas of course), from January18th 2000 to January21, 2001, but already at the end of the summer of 2000 it was obvious that something is not working. No chemistry, or even worse. 'One insider says the two are no longer on speaking terms..'(Sep 23, 2000, The Las Vegas Sun).  Let's watch that exciting advert for the show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2MnVORZYwg Lon Bronson's 18-piece band was superb, and very p

David Cassidy the Horseman

Yes, he was called that in 'Equine Lifestyle Magazine' in May 2008. Everyday on the DC Legacy Great Britain Group I publish 'Daily Quote From David' (with a pic). It only looks very easy to do, just to choose sth David said or wrote, write it nicely, check spelling and add a pic. Of course it's not very complicated, but sometimes I have problems with finding a right quote, an interesting one, food for thought and at the same time nothing too personal or even drastic. It should be sth to show what kind of a man/human being David Cassidy was. And since I started doing it (the end of April) and looking for quotes, I can't get over how many articles and interviews on the DC Official Website are about horses. And some videos. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1983July6_EntertainmentTonight.html How happy DC was..And it's like that on every single one pic with a horse. And even that he was so busy in the early 70s..look what the teen idol had in his

'Let Him Alone Already..'

Someone wrote it in a comment about a non-existing (so far) book. With Henry Diltz pics. Join venture with Johnny Ray Miller. Henry Diltz took thousands of David Cassidy's photographs, those professional for teen mags and those truly priceless, private ones. They were friends and David Cassidy trusted him. We have a short video from 1978 with two of them.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGTPDRzGcEI Henry Diltz was with David Cassidy on his world tour in 1974, as a photographer and as a musician, but what is the most important for us, he was David Cassidy's loyal friend. I can't imagine that now he would like to cross everything out and show us something he shouldn't. Or wanted five minutes of fame or to earn from this friendship. He is a true legend, he was inducted into International Photography Hall Of Fame. He doesn't have to prove anything, he doesn't have to do anything. He is famous and he is 83. If he really wants to do such an album dedicated to David..

'I'll Never Stop Loving You', Or Looking For Treana Morris

Image
Treana Morris. Duet with David Cassidy on this truly wonderful song, the song which never fails me, I always listen to it ..with admiration, that's the best word I can think of. David very rearly did duets, but that one is just outstanding. And I love David and Treana's version the best, not bc I'm a DC fan. The Cher's version is..powerful, but leaves me indifferent..Yes, she had a great voice but I can find real emotions, the real sadness, despair and love  listening  not to  Cher's, but to David Cassidy and Treana Morris' version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-BSDv31eDc . But how that collaboration looked like? A few months  ago I wanted to find something about Basia's backing vocal on 'Romance'. I wanted even write to her ( after all she's Polish). I found an article from 1985 or 1986 about Basia and the band she performed with in the mid-80s, Matt Bianco, and it was written there about her collaboration with David, and  that they didn'

'Didn't You Used To Be..David Cassidy ?'

Image
That was what the title meant for DC, he said it during this interview http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/InsideWord.html   Yes, I've stuck with this record, and that moment in the David Cssidy's life. He was at the crossroads. 'Lyin To Myself ' was a hit, in the top 30, and his rock album was on the Billboard 200 for 12 weeks, but it wasn't a return he was dreaming about. Of course DC looked gorgeous, boyish, his eyes and smile..you know, but sometimes watching the videos from 1992 and 1993 I have an impression that he was a little bit..bored, tired maybe, of that  'rocker' look. He was always the best when he was just himself. David Cassidy, someone bigger and better than any image he played. This is a fragment of the MTV Special from November 1992, on the 'Rolling Stone' mag 25th anniversary. Besides David we can see in it also Jan Wenner, Robin Green and Annie Leibovitz, who looks like the only one person involved in making that famo

White City..

Image
It was very hot when  I met with my friend Doreen in London on Tuesday. Just difficult to walk, to stay outdoors. And she said: ' You know there was the same kind of weather 48 years ago, when David played his White City concert.' ..'But that's explain a lot. So many of the girls had been waiting for that concert a whole night, without water or anything to drink, they didn't want to lose their place in the line..'  48 years ago in May 1974, David Cassidy played his last concerts in the 70s. 24th in Glasgow, 26th (it was Sunday), London, and 28th in Manchester.  A very raw recording from the White City concert https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NS8XYedQjJ8 And it's happened that there are a lot of articles from May 1974 among those I've brought from the UK. B. wasn't allowed to go to the White City concert, she was a 13 year old girl from the west of England, but when she visited her grandparents in London some time later, there were a lot of not deliver

'David Sings From His Heart..'

Image
Someone wrote this in a review about 'Didn't You Used To Be..' Didn't you used to be a teen idol, didn't you used to be..someone else?. How I love this album, let's start with the first song from it (also because we've at last had rain at night!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohoBotds-8A Recorded and mixed at Santa Monica Sound Recorders, April-June 1992. 30 years ago. Produced again by Eric 'E.T.' Thorngren. That great, another David's concept album, which should be treated as a whole, and listened to in the order the songs were arranged..the David's masterpiece. When it was released a lot of interviews appeared, and I love best what an anonymous fan wrote on Amazon : 'This album covers so many types of music, from the feel of soulful ballads, blues, rock and even a gospel-style tune, flawlessly moving from one to other. This is accomplished by the amazing voice of David Cassidy. His vocal range is outstanding - he can take a song of a

The Bag And The Briefcase..

I knew there were gifts waiting for me in England. My friend B. likes buying me old DC's singles at her local charity shops. Very old and very cheap. Yes, she is a former fan, and treats my writings and my works for the website as a strange hobby. She used to be huge and loyal David's fan, she still listens to his music from time to time, but DC for her is a closed chapter. In spite of it we are real friends and have many common interests. Like walking..Maybe one song, one of B.'s fav. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtmgENKr3x4&t=73s So I arrived on Monday, and we were in Salisbury on Tuesday and on Wednesday we were exploring neighborhood..but it was raining rather hard, and after 2 hours we went to B.'s house for some refreshments (and to dry). "Do you want that bag W.?'..'Of course!'.. 'And those badges?..'Charming and lovely. Sure!'..'And 'New Melody Maker Annual 1974'? And 'The Partridge Family book - Keith, The Her

From London With Love

Image
Let's start with listening to David. I haven't had time for his music while being in the UK, too busy talking and walking, too tired in the evening, the days were very intense. But I had one song on my mind during those days.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV70Fcu8OiY Yes, the David's influence. I've met with some friends in the UK, the DC's fans, women who became real, not virtual friends. we have been talking about everything, not so much about David himself, but in every English house I visited during that stay, I could see his pics, albums or books, and of course DC is remembered in England like nowhere else in the world. It was on a train to Cambridge, on Monday. The woman my age asked me something already at the Liverpool Street Station.. and we started talking, and we talked non stop all the way. First about Poland and the UK, differences and similarities, but when she told me her name, I smiled..Stephanie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcvR80bRJhE 'W

'David Cassidy - The Human Being'

Image
This entry was written by my close friend, Doreen Walker, I think 2 years ago. For my book about DC. I was writing and she was reading online, and we talked about it a lot, and once I asked her to write  something for me, about seeing DC in 'Time', in 1987, and also about David ..in general, what she thought about him as a person. Doreen's been a fan of David for 51 years, she saw him in concert in the 70s and 80s, she has a great collection of articles and videos, she's a real expert, a walking DC encyclopedia. We met in person for the first time in November 2018, and we've been whatsapp friends since then. At first it was a bit of distrust and rivalry between us..And our discussions were..agitated. Sometimes we even quarreled, of course because of David. Eg how many fans really were injured during the White City concert? or who wrote 'David's Personal Letter to You' (The Official David Cassidy Magazine)..Other girls from our group laughed at us. '

How We Remember David Cassidy..

Image
Interesting topic of conversation,.. or a question. It's not something that bothers me, not at all, and even if, there is nothing I can do about it, and every  fan has the right to remember DC as they wish.  But I've got some comments about my yesterday's blog (The Last Session) and today was a beautiful sunny day and I've been working in my garden all day long.. So I've been working and thinking. Of course I don't know if DC would have liked 'The Last Session', I can only say that all his life he always wanted people knew the real David Cassidy and he didn't hesitate to reveal a lot about himself in his autobiographies. He made no secret of  his struggle with addiction. For me that's a very important part of his legacy. His courage and his struggles. Of course it's difficult to watch David talking with Dr Phil or Piers Morgan..He changed so much, his character, he knew that himself, and I absolutely understand why we shouldn't talk about

The Last Session

Image
It's because of Lynne's game show, but it's always like that, one thing leads to another, and yesterday while searching for that link, I read some of our old conversations and discussions on the David Cassidy Official Website. It's amazing that everything is still there..and for 2 years after November21, 2917, we fans wrote a lot, hundreds of comments. We wrote about our misery, sadness, our pain..later about how to keep DC's legacy alive, and yesterday I also read very carefully our very agitaded discussion about ..'The Last Session'. It started long ago before anyone saw the doc or knew any details. Some fans were against, there was a campaign of writing protest emails, we were afraid..Of course Jane had to remove some posts..but not many and it's good. Those comments from 2017, 2018, 2019 are the testimony how fans dealt with David's death. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYpNhu9GmUM I wrote a blog about 'The Last Session' in June last y

From Australia With Love !!

Very short blog today. I've found it.. It's taken me some time .. But..at last! She was just wonderful, Lyn (she later changed her name to Lynne...) To find it I've had to browse a lot of past comments on the website..Wow..we used to write a lot... The name of that game show was - Hard Quiz. Season 4, episode 19. Aired September25th, 2019. The Dating Game And Some Other TV Shows

Yes, yes I know. There was supposed to be a break. But..1. Old habits die hard, 2. I'm really a great organizer. Everything's taken me much less time that I thought. Air tickets and train tickets, in Poland and in the UK. There is not a direct flight from Warsaw to Bristol so I have to go to Kraków first and I've also bought train tickets from Swindon to London and from London to Cambridge (and return too). 'You have a schedule planned like a royal visit', my friend Jane has told me today..yes, I don't have to waste our time.  Anyway I'm almost ready, just still need some more presents, and take care of my husehold members (shopping) and last but not least, food for my two stray cats ..They feel I'm not a cat person, but recently one cat has come to terrace to tell me that I've forgotten about the food.. And today while walking, I suddenly remembered an Australian David's fan. Her name is Lynn or Lynne, and we used to write quite a lot a few year
