February 29

Image
An extra day for us and some meaningful anniversaries. I've learnt today a lot about Dinah Shore, who was born on February 29 in 1916. I've had no idea how extraordinary woman she was, a very successful recording artist, actress, radio and television personality, a golfer, and last but not least beautiful woman who had romances with Eddie Fisher, Frank Sinatra and in the early 70s with Burt Reynolds, 20 years her junior. Wow.  It must have been something being invited to her talk show, and DC was really happy when Dinah Shore complimented him on his acting.  We don't have a better copy of this program. October 29, 1978 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4s3NZSsXKwc&t=13s David Thomas Jones died on February 29 in 2012. He was only 66. Before DC was Davy Jones. He was the first crush for many young girls who later fell for DC. I have such English friends. Davy Jones was born in December 1945, he wanted to be a jockey, but resigned when his mother died. He was only 14 at th

We have a poster with such words on the website. In big bold letters.  And there is more on it.  '2 p.m. Randwick Racecourse. Tickets $ 4.20. Book at Capitol Theatre, Metro Kings Cross, Mitchells, D.J's and all agencies. THIS IS ONE SHOW NOT TO BE MISSED! DAVID CASSIDY ON STAGE FOR A MINIMUM OF ONE AND A HALF HOURS. Tickets on sale at Doncaster Rd, Gates.' Poor Harry M. Miller, DC's world tour in New Zealand was such a financial loss for that known promoter, he hoped in Australia would be much better. So to the last moment the tickets were available.  Of course I've never in my life  been there, but I've read a little bit. It was opened in 1833 (wow!), and first of all was (and still is) a racecourse for horse racing, but has been also used as venue for many different events like concerts and religious masses. DC arrived in Sydney, on Thursday, March 1, 1974. On Friday he met with the press. We have an article about it. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/InPri

Point Me In The Direction of Albuquerque / Tony Romeo

Image
The second track on Partridge Family's first album released in September 1970.  We know that 'Point Me' was recorded on August 4, 1970. Also on that day 'I Can Feel Your Heartbeat' and 'To Be Lovers' were recorded. We have the version of this song altered by John Gomolka, to better reflects DC's true voice, but I think in this case, with this song, the difference is not so significant.  We often write, I wish this and that regarding DC. I wish I could have been in that recording studio on August 4, 1970. What Wes Farrell was thinking about listening to 20 year old David Cassidy. Mostly 'wow!', I think. How fast the boy was learning. The first recording session was in May.. The song was used on the episode which was aired 53 years ago, on February 26, 1971, S1 E22, 'Road Song'. This time there wasn't a special music scene, we don't see the Partridges on stage in this episode, but the song perfectly underlines the story. https://www

River In Time / Andrew Gold and Sue Shifrin

Image
Yes, Andrew Gold co-wrote this wonderful song with Sue.  And David Cassidy performed it on EFX, and recorded it. The album with the music and songs from the show was released by MGM Grand in 1997, and was available only through the EFX gift shop at the hotel.   I haven't listened to those songs for some time and I feel like I have discovered them today..again. Love is a river in time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sukzVzSy57g Only 16k views during 15 years, and a few comments with the same statement, 'Never heard this song'.  But today's post should have been called not 'River In Time', but 'David Cassidy at the Warsaw's shoppoing centre'. It's something what happened to me yesterday, it's really nothing very important. But maybe I'll inspire someone, it's always worth telling people about DC. Let Him Shine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7ynTbvyQr0 I had an important family meeting yesterday afternoon, and I had everything ready

'Cherish'. Recorded in October 1971. Released in February 1972.

'Cherish', the first David Cassidy's solo album was released in the US, 52 years ago, in February 1972.  The album was recorded in October 1971, it was one of the most demanding time in DC's life. Already in 1971 he recorded 3 Partridge Family's albums, and fans kept buying everything.  In November 1971 in the US, on every single day about 200 000 copies of TPF's records were sold.  But the studio wanted more, it was obvious that David Cassidy had the potential to become a superstar in his own name, a great pop singer. There was no time to lose. New episodes of Partridge Family's were filmed, his solo album was recorded, but that was not all. In October 1971 DC played concerts on Saturdays and Sundays. There were a lot of articles about him and everybody wrote that David's concerts brought a lot of money. The new word appeared, Cassidysteria".  Journalists wrote that David on stage was someone completely different from Keith Partridge. Billboard, Oc

'David Cassidy My Idol And My Favourite Artist'

Image
Someone wrote this statement on David Cassidy Group yesterday. Nothing more, not a pic, just those words. And at first it has made me smile, it was a little bit naive and who knows how old this fan was. But it's so true and I've added a comment.'The same'.  It's not that I only listen to David's songs, I love music, different kinds, but only David's voice can make the trick (if I can put it this way), it makes me feel better or emotional, nostalgic. So yes, he is my favourite singer. Warms my soul.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3EPelsJpf8 The fan has written, 'my favourite artist', maybe it's meant just my favourite singer, I don't know, DC was much more than just a singer. He was an artist, in his work and in his life. I've been thinking about it watching the newest update on the David Cassidy Official Website. DC taking part in The American Theatre Wing "Working in the theatre seminar'. September 1993, when DC was performin

Thanks to Lanie Bray from David Cassidy-Greatest Fans Group, I've been listening today to the music from the CD called 'The Best Of David Cassidy', released in Japan, in 1991.  It was released without DC's consent, those songs weren't his best, and what's more in 1991 he played and recorded completely different music. The songs on 'The Best Of David Cassidy' was recorded in 1979. David Cassidy's voice in the late 70s when he was 27, 28, 29 years old... Deeper and huskier, mature and sensual, he should have recorded one album after another. It was just a TV show, but I think David was very pleased with how the audience reacted to his singing. November 27, 1977.  The Partridge Family/ My Three Sons Reunion. Thansgiving  Day Special. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/PFMTSReunionSpecial.html In 1978 David did backup vocals on 4 of his friends' albums. He also started working on his own new album, with a very known music producer Ken M

How Can I Be Sure / Felix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati

Yesterday a version of this famous David Cassidy's hit was published on You Tube. A version with isolated vocals (DC), and bass - Joe Osbourn!!  'Joe Osborne', is written on my Partridge Family's 'Crossword Puzzle' vinyl album, or Joe Osborn (Wikipedia), but definitely not Osbourn. Funny, me with my dyslexia writing about it, but even I know that not 'Osbourn'. Joseph Osborn was born in 1937. He worked as a session musician in LA with the Wrecking Crew in the 60s and early 70s, very often together with Hal Blaine and Larry Knechtel. They were called the Hollywood Golden Trio. The songs we can hear his bass on are the most legendary, the most important ones. The list is very long, but  only today I have learned that he played on America's 'Ventura Highway', the song I love so much.  In 1974 he moved to Nashville and played on the most famous country and western albums. After 2005 Joe Osborn semi retired, enjoyed recording with Richard Carpente

February 1974. 'Just A Singer'

I've been reading recently old articles we have on the David Cassidy Official Website, the articles published in February 1974.  50 years ago a lot was written about the first leg of DC's World Tour. Very interesting read. Great expectations and a lot of disappointments. especially for Harry M. Miller, a known promoter, publicist and media agent.  The company he co-owned, Pan Pacific, promoted many concert and theatrical tours in Australia and New Zealand, especially in the 60s. Great names. He also produced the Australian production of 'Jesus Christ Superstar' and other musicals.. But David's tour, especially in New Zealand, proved a very costly mistake for Harry M. Miller. We don't have any videos or even audio from the New Zealand concerts, just a few photos, a review and a set list, that's all. Let's see DC performing in Australia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfsuyDD9tnE So in February 1974 a lot was written about security and DC's planned co

'What Do People Do At 6 In The Morning?'

Image
Let's start with a song. Since I've got 'A Touch Of Blue'  from my my wonderful son-in-law, the music from this CD is played in my car. I still don't like, or better say don't listen to 'Walk Away Renee', and maybe there are too many ballads on it and only one great rock song ('Hollywood Nights'), on the other hand even my neighbour has noticed that recently I drive more carefully and much slower.  Let's watch this really nice video and listen to David Cassidy. 'Love brings such misery and pain..' btw. 'Since I Fell For You' was written in 1945 by Buddy Johnson as a blues ballad. He was a pianist and a bandleader (of course we can hear it's a great big band number), and the song was for his sister Ella. 'Since I Fell For You' was a great hit in 1963 (#4 on Billboard Hot 100) in Lenny Welch' interpretation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsJSAqv8GGE So what do people do at 6 in the morning? DC asked this questi

David Cassidy's Songs Which Turn 50 Years Old In 2024

Image
I've seen a video today, the songs which turn 50 years old in 2024, (not David's) really a strange experience. It was just a pure accident, but once I've started I couldn't stop. 120 world hits in 11 minutes.   And yes, I remember nearly all of them, amazing really, and I've been surprised that some were actually from 1974, but of course at the time Poland was a communist country and we heard many songs very often a year or two later than the rest of the world.  From English charts - Sweet, Slade, Suzi Quatro, Mud, The Rubettes, Paper Lace, Queen, Elton John, of course Paul McCartney and Wings (Band On the Run), Bowie, Sparks to name a few. Hits from the USA - Sweet Home Alabama is 50! and You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet! Billy Joel and Stevie Wonder. John Denver. Gloria Gaynor. Barry White.. Of course ABBA, but sorry never been a fan. And also some artists I've written about many times on my blog. America had 2 hits in 1974 and ..Donny Osmond. A lot of great, me

David Cassidy's Day At the Races

Image
First 'Hollywood Nights'. Since I've got 'A Touch Of Blue' CD this song is played in my car..often. But the live recording is even better, DC was an amazing live performer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWK2zs-D3jM&list=RDWWK2zs-D3jM&start_radio=1 This exciting concert was in April 2002, in Glasgow. In 2002 a lot was written about David's horses. He owned 11 and had 7 in training in New York with Gary C. Contessa. A famous trainer and a talented bass player, they became very close friends. In 2002 one of DC's horses, Lady D'Jour, a horse he bought for $8000, won more than $100 000 on track In the interview for Thoroughbred Daily News he said how he and his grandfather watched the Kentucky Derby together, and that it was Fred who taught very young David how to read Racing Forum and gave him some dollars to bet. David read and learned about horses in his free time, also on TPF's set and bought his first horse-in-yearling in 1974. At first he

David Cassidy On Larry King Live

A few days ago Jane published on the David Cassidy Official Website DC's TV guest appearance on Late Show with Conan O'Brien, according to the Website it was aired on June 25, 1994.  It's nothing new really, I watched it a few years ago on YT, I don't know if it's still on it, anyway it's great we have it now on the Website, because we should have everything. That's my opinion as a fan and a former librarian. Even that some videos, interviews are difficult to watch or I don't like reading or watching some things which has been  published about DC.  And I'm not a great fan of this particular conversation, interview, I don't know how to call it. But many fans really liked this show, so I've seen it one more time today. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1994LateShowWithConanOBrien.html And while watching it I've realized how important for David Cassidy was to be on all those the most popular American talk shows in the mid 90s.

A Touch Of Blue

Image
I've got 'A Touch Of Blue' CD today. From my wonderful son-in-law. And this is not the first present related to DC I've got from him. He bought this CD some time ago, but I've got it only today and I didn't expect this album to make such an impression on me. Listening to it turned out so emotional.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kjh2SPYRbNc I've had rather mixed feelings about David Cassidy's albums after 1992. 'Didn't You Used To Be' was his last concept album, entirely with new material. Later there were new songs too, but first of all  covers of the songs he liked himself, and new versions of his old hits. It was a good strategy from the marketing point of view, and 'Then And Now' was his great comeback on the UK chart after many years. Released in October 2001, it reached # 5 and achieved Platinum Sale status. 'A Touch Of Blue'..Great title. Only one original song (and what a great song it is!) but this album is really o

Some Old Woman/Shel Silverstein and Bob Gibson

Image
Actually this song is called, 'Some Old Woman Tellin' Old Those Lies', sung by a folk legend, Bob Gibson, and the original version is much longer and the lyrics much stronger than David's cover. You can read for yourself and listen to Bob Gibson. It's very nice that on his page DC's version is included, just I don't know why it's written there that his cover wasn't released. It's on the DC's third solo album, 'Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes' of course. https://www.bobgibsonfolk.com/song-some-old-woman-tellin-all-those-lies/ That was an interesting choice of a song for his album, and I'd have liked to know why he had changed the lyrics. "You know I lie awake nights, I'm just weepin' and cryin''. David's version is much more optimstic like he wanted to believe himself that he didn't care so much about what was written about him.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dOhMO1phU8 What a gem. Wonderfull

David Cassidy In Belgium. And In Holland (Again)

Image
Writing about DC in Holland, and first of all talking with Marjon Hoogendam-Landmeter for two days, have been very emotional for me. Soon will be the 50th anniversary of his last concert there, and it was one of the last he ever played in Europe (I mean  Continental Europe), in later years fans who wanted to see him had to go to the UK. I feel I should add something to yesterday's entry. First of all about David Cassidy in Belgium. I haven't written anything about it, but of course David was a big star also there, and he played a concert in Arenahal in Deurne, (it's the district of the municipality of Antwerp), on March 8, 1973. This video is with Crazy Over You song, but actually the footage and some pics are from that Belgium concert.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AK5AQzoRG4 But we have on the website something even more exciting. An interview with David for the Antwerp TV, which  probably took place before the concert, and fragments of his performance. He looks tired

'I'm A Man'. David Cassidy in Holland

Image
Today's blog is very special, because all info about David Cassidy in Holland, his popularity, his concerts and meeting with fans is given to me by Marjon Hoogendam-Landmeter. She became a fan in 1972, first saw him in concert in 1973, and later saw David performed more than 100 times over the years, in the UK and in the USA. She met him over 40 times. Marjon's started running David's fan club (with his permission), in 1988, she was running it for 16 years. it was the pre-Internet time, so it was difficult to gather the right info, separate truth from rumors. David was in touch with Marjon, called her and wrote her letters. She had his support. All fan-run fan clubs, except for the fact they collected and shared information about David, were also groups supporting him, especially in the 80s. And today Marjon is sharing this amazing story with us. The Partridge Family was aired in Holland from May 1972, but not just the show, but first of all the music made David Cassidy a s

David Cassidy On 'Rock N' Talk' and 'Benezra'

Image
I haven't forgotten about 'David In Europe', David in Holland will be the next one chapter, another amazing story, another love affair (if I can put it this way), DC and his Dutch fans. And those from Belgium.  But I can't not to write about the recent video posted by Jane on The David Cassidy Official Website.  DC at his best in conversation with a very attractive girl..He was in a happy relationship, but..he looked just amazing and I've been smiling all the way watching this short video. Unfortunately this is not the whole of this interview and not the best quality, but nevertheless we are so happy it's on the website now. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1990Nov11_RockNTalk.html?fbclid= 'Lonely at the bottom'..so true, he experienced being at the top but also at the very low bottom. DC said in 2000, 'The highes have been incredibly high and the lows have been really pretty low.' When he did something it was more than 100%.  We

David Cassidy In Spain. July 1975

Image
I really love when an entry of my blog starts a conversation, or  encourages fans to share some info or memories. That way we all learn something more about DC.  It's like doing together a giant jigsaw puzzle with David's portrait, and each of us can add a missing piece. Together We Are Better. And after last entry, I've got some info about DC in Spain. In 1975.  Let's start with this outstanding, beautiful video made by Araceli. Those pics are mostly from 1973, but not all of them.  We still can't take our eyes off him.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzhmobS8BtY The story is a little bit complicated. In 1975 DC recorded his first album for RCA, 'The Higher They Climb, The Harder They Fall'. It was released in July 1975, in the USA, Spain, the UK, Germany, Turkey, Australia, Italy, Greece, Japan, France, India, Argentina, South Africa, Peru and Canada. 'The Higher They Climb, The Harder They Fall' was a success in the UK, Europe and South Africa. I

'On Fire'. David Cassidy in Europe. Part 2.

Image
But first the recent video Jane has posted on The David Cassidy Official Website. I saw it a few years ago on YT, but couldn't find it later.  I love how DC looked at the time, in July 1993, he just started performing in 'Blood Brothers', short hair suited him better after 40 (in my opinion of course). And there was something so touching and vulnerable about him, boyish and sexy, you can almost feel how emotional he was. In later years David changed into someone tougher and someone who could better hide his emotions.  It was a great time for him, summer of 1993. A real Partridge renaissance, in June was TPF marathon on MTV, and in July Nickelodeon aired the show every weeknight at 8p.m. We can see how happy he was that day, so enthusiastically received by fans, it was in his native city and last but not least it's great to see them together. David and Wes Farrell. Actually this is the only one video where we can see both of them. There are just some pics from the 70. We
