'Cherish'. Recorded in October 1971. Released in February 1972.

'Cherish', the first David Cassidy's solo album was released in the US, 52 years ago, in February 1972.

The album was recorded in October 1971, it was one of the most demanding time in DC's life. Already in 1971 he recorded 3 Partridge Family's albums, and fans kept buying everything.

In November 1971 in the US, on every single day about 200 000 copies of TPF's records were sold.

But the studio wanted more, it was obvious that David Cassidy had the potential to become a superstar in his own name, a great pop singer. There was no time to lose. New episodes of Partridge Family's were filmed, his solo album was recorded, but that was not all.

In October 1971 DC played concerts on Saturdays and Sundays. There were a lot of articles about him and everybody wrote that David's concerts brought a lot of money. The new word appeared, Cassidysteria".

Journalists wrote that David on stage was someone completely different from Keith Partridge. Billboard, October 1971, 'The cut of his jumpsuit leaves no doubt that David is a big boy now. It's not the boyish charm he projects with moves that are a lot closer to Tom Jones than to Davy Jones.'

In October 1971 David got a proposition to play Madison Square Garden on Thanksgiving weekend, but Ruth Aarons thought it was too early. She said, 'We know we'd get 10,000, but the idea is to sell it out.'. David had no time to prepare for playing MSG in November, not a single free day to nearly the end of that insane year. He performed in New York in March 1972, and it was a sell out concert.

In October 1971 DC appeared twice on The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour. On October 1st, the 50th Annual Photoplay Gold Medal Awards was brodcast live on this popular program. Glen presented David the award of The Most Promising Actor.

On October 24 he was on the Glen's program again, as a guest star. David looked sensational, so amazingly beautiful and very confident. He was aware of the love of the audience. The girls were screaming when he appeared on stage. And he was in love too. With Meredith Baxter. In spite of that insane schedule in the autumn of 1971 they managed to meet from time to time..

And last but not least, in October 1971, the single 'Cherish' was released while the album was still in production. It became number 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart in December 1971, and on December 25 it peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 9. It was the only one David's Top 10 Hit in his native country. It sold more than 1 million copies in the US alone..
