Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes

Image
What a great title it was for the David Cassidy's first, really own, solo album.  I had no idea about this record in the 70s, and when I first listened to it, I think it was before he died, I had some troubles to understand the title.  It's not that we don't have those two words in Polish, one for 'wish', and another for 'dream', but I had to write it down for myself (don't laugh), that, "a wish is something you want to happen in the future and a dream is something you want to see yourself doing in the future, and your wish may be your dream".  Looks complicated, but there is a difference, words are important, I like learning about meaning and origin of them. David borrowed that title from one of his favourite artist (and a friend), Harry Nilsson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdj54_laZaY My dreams and wishes for 2024. My biggest dream is a new David's song. It's not impossible, maybe Meryl has something, or Sue, they were writing son

The One And Only David Cassidy

I haven't planned it, but yesterday quite unexpectedly I watched TV film, 'Come On Get Happy : The Partridge Family'.  Great quality copy, published on YT about 3 weeks ago with the impressive number of views, now more than 32k.  I have written about this film a few times, but I have never really watched it. Just fragments. I couldn't stand that the actor who played David had such an awful wig, looked muscular and tall. The film was first aired in November 1999 on ABC, the story was told from Danny Bonaduce's viewpoint, and was narrated by him. The movie got mixed reviews, but quite a lot of critics found the film entertaining.  "The approach to the brief history of the ABC show is dryly ironic and just spoofy enough to be funny without wearing thin.(...) The tone is bemused and a little corny. It portrays David as a cynical pop star who wants to be a hard rocker and Susan as love-struck over Cassidy(...) It's a surprisingly entertaining Saturday night movi

Sweetness / David Cassidy

This song has been playing in my mind all day long (it's late evening now), so I really have to write about it. It's like a sign from DC. I'm joking, but I know I have to write a blog to get rid of this song. It's not that I don't like it, on the contrary. It's a great song, the rhythm and the lyrics, full of passion and desire even, we can feel it's written by a young person, so emotional. Nice video, but was that song really recorded in 1972? I think it was earlier, but I don't know. It was slated for The Partridge Family, but Wes Farrell didn't think it was good enough. Or maybe not exactly for the show.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxoBSLVxZjY 'Hot kind of music burnin' in my soul..tomorrow's dream awaits us..' Yes, maybe not Partridge Family's material. But on the other hand there is 'We Gotta Get Out Of This Place' on Notebook album. Wes Farrell was the boss. Btw Wes was born on December 21st in 1939, and he died

She'd Rather Had The Rain / Terry Cashman and Tommy West

This song has been playing in my mind a lot recently. Also during Christmas. The snow has melted and it's been raining non stop..And in the morning I've got on Google Alerts another DrQuizzler's David Cassidy/Partridge Family's cover. What a coincidence. I know nothing about this man, besides that he likes doing covers, and from time to time he records (all by himself) a DC's song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WtDmuCtbIA It's very moving, I can imagine it wasn't easy to play it and sing, and make a video. Partridge Family's songs only look easy to sing because David Cassidy's sung them so effortlessly. Let's listen to one more amateur cover, it was a mother's day gift. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpDzazacUEw It's easy to laugh at them, but I think it's wonderful, and it's love from start to finish, and a lot of hard work to make it happens. It was recorded 15 years ago, and that mother died 2 years ago. DrQuizzler's co

Till We Meet Again / Craig J.Snider

I'm from Poland and we start Christmas actually on Christmas Eve with a very traditional, family Christmas dinner. And I don't know if this custom is universal, known in other countries, but in Poland during that special dinner there is always one extra chair, one extra plate with cutlery, a napkin, etc.. It's for an unexpected visitor.  But this empty place also symbolizes those who are not with us any longer, and we think about them, remembered them, our loved ones, the members of our family and dear friends. And I don't tell my family about it, but I also think about David Cassidy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2YAc0lwMy8 Craig J.Snider met David Cassidy in 2007, he was hired to play piano and guitar, and also program David's 2007 album David Cassidy Part II - The Remix . Craig J. Snider has a degree in piano and composition, he is multi-instrumentalist, producer, remixer, composer, songwriter, label owner, known and successful. David Cassidy called him, '

'You don't know how many times..'

He knew of course how he was loved. It was love at the first sight on a global scale. There were a lot of pretty boys in the early 70's, actors or singers, but there was something so special about David Cassidy..and yes, many wanted just to touch or to hold him, he couldn't forget about security nearly to the rest of his days. He was mobbed, sometimes physically attacted by..boys, fans were screaming and fighting with each other to be as close to him as possible, tried to rip off his clothes..his hair.  David Cassidy said in 2008, ' people loving you to a point where they want to have a piece of you for their wall and they can love you so much they want to tear your clothes off or tear you apart .' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqV3AtBwcZk We can read in Jackie in December 1972, 'David has such an effect on girls that they almost come out of the chimney at his house! Girls have turned up on the set posing as journalists and then halfway through the interview have

Walking In The Rain / Barry Mann, Phil Spector, Cynthia Weil

Image
I've wanted to write about something else, but it has been raining all day long on this another 21st..and we love how David Cassidy sings this song, how he looks in that music scene. Btw. I've read somewhere on FB that it wasn't actually easy to film, because at one moment Danny irritated David terribly.  The original song was recorded by the Ronettes, released in October 1964, it was number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100, and sure David knew that song from his school years. Written by Cynthia Weil, who died this year in June, aged 82, her husband, Barry Mann (born in 1939), co-written and produced by Phil Spector. Let's watch and listen to the original. I can imagine young David dancing with one of his girl friends at a school dance party or whatever it was called in 1964. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4l5t1FUscUI 'Walking In the Rain' appeared on 'Notebook', released in November 1972. The album spent 16 weeks on chart, and two singles were released.

We Could Never Be Friends / Tony Romeo

Image
Still a few days left, but on December 25 I will be with my family.  Tony Romeo was born on the Christmas Day, 85 years ago. We, David Cassidy's fans, know the lyrics of his songs by heart.. 'When the chains around me no longer ground me..and all at once I met you and you stop me in my tracks..I may stumble I may fall..Yes love, you know I did before..Since you've been away, oh, yes, I am uptight..I only called to let you know I haven't seen you and I miss you so..but be certain not to stray he will steal your heart away..I don't know how to deal it..walked her to the station and kissed away the tears...may all your days be happy with joy that never ends...we reached the top of the world together..rock me to sleep in your arms..to make me as happy as I ever been.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtAv3gY8iLo Tony Romeo..a great songwriter the world has forgotten. In the 60s he even recorded an album, with his brother, Frank and Cassandra Morgan who later was a cast m

December 1995

Image
December never was easy for David Cassidy. Both his parents died in December. His father in 1976. His mother just before Christmas in 2012.  He performed on Christmas Eve in 1997 and 1998, in EFX, and again from December 27. It was the same when he performed on 'At The Copa', in 2000. He was on stage already on December 26. And in 2001, on December 28 just before 'At The Copa' show started, David came out into the audience and announced that a 40 pound radiator had dropped on his foot when he ran into it in the bathroom during the night. He hadn't turned on the light.  He said there was a lot of blood and his doctor said he wouldn't be performing that night, but DC told him he would..David did perform that night with a lot of energy and pain killers.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8UrhGPejsk In 1983, in December he performed in 'Joseph', first in Toronto, the last show was on 16th, and the next day he was in Pittsburgh, and in the evening he attended

What Is The Most Popular David's Video?

Image
I'm in a bit of Christmas mood already, so nothing serious today. Someone has posted, (sorry but I haven't noticed on which group) a link to The Partridge Family's video, with a comment that this is the most popular DC's video on YT.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5fPDYPk8YE David Cassidy as the world remembers him, smiling, and so beautiful. And of course  many fans want to remember just such David. Recently a new video from 1985 has appeared on the website, and most comments were about David's hair. That his dark, long hair in the 70s was much better. A blond DC wasn't so cute. No, blond wasn't for him. Poor David.. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1985Splash.html But let's return to 'Breaking Up Is Hard To Do', this video has nearly 2 millions hits, impressive number, but of course the most popular DC's song on YT is 'I Think I Love You'. There are some videos with The Partridge Family's original, one is only

Inspired By David Cassidy

Jessica Chastain, a very known actress and a global movie star, and she is a very successful one, she got an Academy Award in 2022, and also got a Golden Glob, and during her career was nominated  for Emmy and for Tony awards, and many others, she is a real celebrity, anyway, she was on Jimmy Fallon's show on December 16. This year. She was to promote her new film and you should know that around 1,3 million viewers watch The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. And in one moment during her interview, Jessica Chastian has said what and who inspired her to become an actress.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDwsGKiu6j0 She was born in 1977, and David performed in 'Joseph And Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'  from March to September of 1983, and later toured the USA and Canada. Her grandma took her to see the show..It has made me feel old at first, but also inspired me, because my younger grandson is a born actor (and a charmer), and maybe it's time to go to the theatre with him.

'No Broken Wings Can Keep Me Down..'

Image
I've wanted to write something completely different today, but as it often happens, DC has inspired me again. Like a sign from him..Maybe I'm just middle-aged and awfully sentimental, but I don't care, it's been like a sign from him. A song chosen at random in my car today. About losing and searching for one true love, with the words about broken wings.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOo2A1vJmaQ In this video we can see David Cassidy and some girls, women he dated, his wives, and of course it's a song about something David was looking for all his life, an unconditional love. But I think we can also interpret it, at least me today, as a song about hope and not to give up against all odds.  2023 is making history. Not bad, for us DC's fans. David Cassidy at last has a permanent Star on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars, and it's our Star, I mean a lot of fans worldwide have made it happens. And we are very grateful to the organizers, it wasn't easy. Thank you.

'I Like To Make People Happy..' Part 1

Image
We write a lot about David Cassidy's complex personality, about his struggles, the price he paid for his early fame. Everything is true. There is a sentence in his autobiography which is really hard to read. Showing what a horrible impact his parents' divorce had on him. The way he learned about it. David Cassidy : 'There's a certain naivety in unconditional trust because, for the most part, as we all learn, people disappoint you. To pharaphrase Carole King. you can expect to have pieces of your heart torn out along the way, and people will desert you.' (David Cassidy : Could It Be Forever? , 2007, p.7) But there was also a happy David, and I want to write at the end of the old year, 2023, something upflifting, put links to some happy songs and funny videos, David Cassidy had a great sense of humour. And something more.  He said in 1999, ' I like to make people laugh, and I like to make them happy. I've had that since a very early age. (..) there's a lot

All I Wanna Do Is Touch You / Irwin Levine and L.Russell Brown

B-side of David Cassidy's single, 'Cherish', released in September 1971. The single hit number 9 on November 13, 1971, and stayed on the charts for 11 weeks. And I've been listening today to it in my car and singing..'All I Wanna Do Is Touch Yooouuu.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pG17uX7M8U .' It's amazing how DC kept improving his singing during his teen idol's years. Of course from the start he wasn't a complete amateur, he sang in a choir as a boy, his grandma probably was his first singing teacher, and later singing lessons must have been important part of his preparations for the role in 'Fig Leaves Are Falling'. We have an audio from it. 18 year- old David Cassidy singing.. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TheatrePages/FigleavesForOurSake.mp3 David Cassidy wrote in his autobiography about The Partridge Family's songs : 'Although most people didn't appreciate the merit of the songs back then, I think that the fact tha

'Sometimes My Scenes Are Good..'

A fragment from the Tony Romeo's masterpiece. And David Cassidy's. Tony wrote a great song but it was David who made it so special. A song written for DC and..about him. It's always emotional to watch and listen to David singing 'I Am a Clown', in every decade. I've chosen his  performance from one of the Empire Pool's concerts, 50 years ago.  One in a kind performance combining his acting and singing skills. And showing the power he had..the level of excitement was incredible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep42l7CacCY David Cassidy was an exceptional singer because he was also an actor. It's something which has taken me some time to truly understand, because I got to know first David Cassidy - a singer. I got to know his songs before I even watched one episode of The Partridge Family, or any other his TV or film appearances. But of course he was primary an actor. Also in his private life.  Today we have another sad anniversary, Jack Cassidy died on

Christmas With David Cassidy

Image
And we had Halloween with him, and after Christmas we will have Valentine's Day.. Maybe 'Spooky' first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlIlSrNwMWs Oh, yes. He always knew what to do to make women scream.. For at least 2 weeks I've been thinking about writing an entry called, 'David Cassidy our Christmas Decoration'. First of all you must know that we have a different tradition here, in Poland. Yes, our streets and shops look the same like everywhere at this time of the year, with Christmas decorations, it's nice even that the main purpose of it is money of course.  But we decorate Christmas trees at our homes at the very last moment. In my house, on Christmas Eve, when everything is ready, clean and Christmas dinner is cooked, because in Poland the most important is a traditional family dinner on Christmas Eve.  But of course I know that it's different in the UK or the USA, and people decorate their houses, flats much earlier. https://www.youtube.com/wa

Happy Birthday Susan Dey

Image
David Cassidy and Susan Dey, that never ending story, we still love wondering what if..and why. From the start there were rumors of romance and Susan used to get letters telling her to leave David alone. It was so many years ago and we will never know how it really was, but of course it's none of our business, it's not our very private story, and somehow I'm sure that Susan Dey doesn't care what fans or the world in general think about David Cassidy and her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqBc549rcF4 We write a lot about the price DC paid for his stardom, and about Danny's difficult experiences. Susan Dey also was a victim of early fame and adulation. She had anorexia, it's called an eating disorder, but of course it's not just a disorder, it's a very serious illness, I don't need to write about it, and now we know better how to help to overcome it. But it was different in the early 70s, it was still a taboo, and she had to fight with it alone, with

David's Songs That Turn 50 Years Old This Year.

Image
There are such lists on social media or YT, called for example, '25 Greatest Songs That Are Turning 50 Years Old This Year', or '50 Songs You Won't Believe Are Turning 50 This Year'. So true, sometimes is so difficult to believe. Half a century. It's happened a few times this year, when the list has been created in the UK, that 'Daydreamer' was included. 1973 was David's year in the UK. He had  the number one song and the number one album. He played sold out concerts. His one in a kind weekend at Wembley. In 1973 he was the world's biggest pop star. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZ_y6mGGR1c Amazing. His hair, the way he looked, his professionalism. It was filmed in a great conspiracy, and as we know DC's suit was bought at the very last moment and it was too big for him. Nevertheless his performance on the Heathrow tarmac is unforgettable.  David's Songs That Turn 50 Years Old This Year. For us they have no age, they are timless. Some m

"I Hope the World Still Wants Me'

First a song. I've just got a wonderful present, some great  vinyl singles, such a joy to have them and listen to.  The Last Kiss/The Letter, Romance (Let Your Heart Go, the pic is from the other side of that single, and I've had no idea that on the B side is the instrumental version of this song, it was also moving to read Basia's very difficult Polish surname (Trzetrzelewska) and written without any mistakes. If I Didn't Care/Frozen Noses, and The Partridge Family's - Looking Through the Eyes Of Love/Storybook Love and Breaking Up Is Hard To Do/I Think I Love You/I'll Meet You Halfway. I just can't find words to describe my feelings, holding those old records and listening to them. A great joy. Let's listen and watch DC singing 'Breaking Up Is Hard To Do'. This episode was first aired on this day, 51 years ago.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5fPDYPk8YE But I've had today also a disappointment. I'm very involved in helping Jane (our w

Blue Christmas / Billy Hayes and Jay W, Johnson

Image
This song was first recorded in 1948 by Doye O'Dell, and very quickly a lot of different versions appeared, made by orchestras or country singers.  Elvis recorded it in 1957 and made of that song a rock&roll holiday classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6WnnZRSKYs Many famous artists covered 'Blue Christmas'. But we are David Cassidy's fans, and he recorded this song twice. As a very young man, in 1971, at the time the reigning teen idol, and many years later, at the end of his long career. The Partridge Family Christmas Card album was recorded on August 25, 26 and 28, and released in November of 1971. Music played by the best, Dennis Budimir, Louie Shelton, Max Bennett, Mike Melvoin, Hal Blaine. Backing vocals - Jackie Ward, John and Tom Bahler, Ron Hicklin. Produced by Wes Farrell. The number 1 selling Christmas album of 1971. Number 1 on the Billboard Special Christmas Album Sales Chart for 4 weeks. Great pop Christmas songs recorded in the true Partridge Fam

'Have Things Really Changed So Much Or Is It Just Me..'

Today's title is a fragment from 'Can't Go Home Again', written by David Cassidy, Kim Carnes and Dave Ellingson, more than half a century ago.  We write about David Cassidy everyday, it's very easy to forget that the 70s was...very long time ago. There is even the FB Group called, 'We Pretend it's Still the 70s.'. I know that it's not true of course, what's more I think that now a lot of things are much better than they were 50 years ago, and I live in the present and I enjoy my life.  Let's watch again DC performing 'Can't Go Home Again' in Australia, in 1974. Outstanding video, we can admire David Cassidy in conversation with his audience, his professionalism, and we know how difficult, even dangerous that concert was. Also for him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4gvxt1WgaA Denny Laine died yesterday. He was 79. And it's happened that quite recently I've written an entry about 'Go Now' (it was published on Nove

Sometimes there are such entries when I don't know how to start.  So maybe with the song I thought about yesterday when Henry Diltz published an amazing new/old DC's pic from 1971. He didn't give us the date, but I'm sure it was 1971. And there was a caption, 'David Cassidy looks like angel here...and maybe he is now!' I don't know if he is an angel. Maybe.. The pic was so wonderful and it was so moving to see it, that I just took out my 'Crossword Puzzle' album and started listening to this song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqSrTNxV6S8 Henry Diltz is such a wonderful man, he has been active first as a musician, later as photographer since the 1960s. He photographed everybody. All of them. His pics are on the most important album covers in the history of the 20th century music. He was the official photographer at Woodstock and at the Monterey Pop Festival. It was his pic of The Doors, which was used on their album 'Mo

A Story Without A Title. An Introduction.

Image
I've just returned from my holiday. I've had a wonderful time, and also while in Turkey had an idea for another fan fiction story.  Let's start with the song I listened to a few times while walking on the beach. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr3fFMZ2GXw I saw this pic a few weeks ago ; David Cassidy and Geraldo Rivera on 'Good Night America' on July 4, 1974. A black and white pic, much more interesting than those colour screenshots we have on the David Cassidy Official Website.  This interview  has always fascinated me. 'Good Night America', hosted by Geraldo Rivera wasn't just a talk show dealing with celebrities. And Geraldo Rivera wasn't an ordinary host. 7 years older than David, like him born in New York, very well educated (he is also an attorney), he hosted that newsmagazine (and was its the executive producer) since 1973. The program tackled controversial topics including marijuana usage and Vietnam War draft.  It's good to know those f
