Walking In The Rain / Barry Mann, Phil Spector, Cynthia Weil

I've wanted to write about something else, but it has been raining all day long on this another 21st..and we love how David Cassidy sings this song, how he looks in that music scene. Btw. I've read somewhere on FB that it wasn't actually easy to film, because at one moment Danny irritated David terribly.

The original song was recorded by the Ronettes, released in October 1964, it was number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100, and sure David knew that song from his school years. Written by Cynthia Weil, who died this year in June, aged 82, her husband, Barry Mann (born in 1939), co-written and produced by Phil Spector. Let's watch and listen to the original. I can imagine young David dancing with one of his girl friends at a school dance party or whatever it was called in 1964.

'Walking In the Rain' appeared on 'Notebook', released in November 1972. The album spent 16 weeks on chart, and two singles were released. 'Looking Through The Eyes of Love', number 39 on January 27, 1973, much higher on the Billboard Adult Contemporary (#9), and for an unknown reason, 'Friend and Lover', only # 99 in April..

'Walking In The Rain' was performed on the episode called The Eleven-Year Itch (S3E18), first aired on February 2, 1973, with Bert Convy as Richard Lawrence and Jodie Foster as his daughter Julie. Recently that episode appeared on YT.

Scary to see Jodie Foster so ..small. She is a few months younger than me, and at the time she was already quite experienced child actor, with several credits. Poor Danny found a match in her (maybe that's why he was difficult to work with on the set), and Jodie who went to French school liked talking French to Danny (according to Brian Foster, who had a lot of fun watching those two)

And now David Cassidy's version. Yes, I know it was The Partridge Family's, but his voice made this cover so good. What can I say..a masterpiece, the way he sings it, the way he looks..we can only envy that lucky girl with whom he will be ..walking in the rain..
