Looking Like Young Clint..

First let's listen to the song I've rediscovered recently. I really don't know why I've thought it was rather boring and not very original. Of course at the time there were a lot of similar rock ballads and I wasn't a fan of such in the early 90s, but a few days ago this song literally stopped me in my tracks. Written by David Cassidy, Sue Shifrin and John Wetton. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbraLQXP03I This album has such great sound, many outstanding musicians played for DC, but I think it could have been better. 'All Because Of You' doesn't fit at all in my opinion, and what worse Cher had a hit with it, in 1989. Instead 'Crazy Over You' should have been recorded. There was another unlucky choice because the single 'Lyin' To Myself' had on a b side a non-album track, a song written by David and Sue, 'I'll Believe You Again'. 'Prisoner' would have been great as a song on a flip side. But let's get back to...

'Yeah, he looks good..'

Image
A song first. The beginning of 2023 is truly hard. Sure those people were strangers for us. We haven't known them personally, but they were important. Actually I talked about Jeff Beck on the first date with my future husband. It was 45 ago and I remember everything, every single song we were talking about. Music. It meant a lot. Lisa Marie..We all remember her as a sweet little girl, we read how she loved The Partridge Family and visited David on the set, we heard her singing her dad 'I Think I Love You'. The money and fame didn't bring her happiness, instead a lot of pain.  It's no wonder we're so sad today. I'm thinking about her mother and her daughters. The whole family. I've been searching for a DC song and nothing looked right. At last I've found. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOFAzcQXr4o But it's something we must be prepared for. It's just the way it is. We are middle- aged and our heroes are old. It's life. Let's return to...

A Grammy For David...One Day Maybe..

Image
I'm disappointed or rather surprised, that not many people appreciate a Grammy for Henry Diltz. That David Cassidy is listed as one of those 'music legends' photographed by him. The info about it is not on the website..I don't know why..Anyway, it's made me think about the awards DC got in his lifetime, and if it's possible he will ever get a Grammy. It's such an irony that at the very beginning of his career, when he didn't expect it, DC was nominated not only for a Grammy but also a Golden Globe. But not as David Cassidy, but as a member of The Partridge Family. In 1971. David Cassidy :'We were nominated for Grammy and Golden awards, none of which we won. Our show and music weren't quite credible enough; they were too commercial, too kid-oriented. That I got nominated for Grammys seemed pretty extraordinary to me, considering that before I was hired for TPF I had never even had aspirations of becoming a recording artist.' (David Cassidy : ...

David As David Greeley and a 'Technican In Hamburg'

Image
'The Night the City Screamed' was first aired on December 14, 1980, 42 years ago. On ABC. While searching for some info I looked at the DC profile on IMDb. Nice David's pic and those dates 1950-2017. Will I ever get used to it..This is so strange, I mean we know that DC is dead, but.. Anyway, what a surprise, nothing important, but do you know that David has an uncredited role in a film from 1975 called 'Rosebud'. With Peter O'Toole, a film about terrorism, also with young Isabelle Hupert and Kim Cattrall (that was her debut, she was just 19). It seems DC appeared there as a 'Technican in Hamburg'. There is a trailer on IMDb, rather awful, and a review ('the film is horrible'). And one other surprise, the soundtrack consisted of a song, wrote by t DC's friend Harry Nilsson and sang by..Kim.I wonder if anyone knew something about it.  But let's return to 'The Night The City Screamed'. A lot of familiar names. Mel Swope -The Partrid...

David Cassidy a TV Star

Image
I've been talking with my daughter today about the old tv shows we once liked, and that now is possible to watch them again on Netflix. For my daughter (she's a little bit younger than Katie Cassidy) 'old' means sth from the beginning of the 21st century. And I said how I'd loved to watch 'Malcolm in the Middle', because I missed it when it was on our tv, and I loved the episode with David, it was so funny.. 'David was on it ?? Malcolm in the Middle? Really?'..'Yes, he was. 'Vegas' episode. He was an actor, and a good one, not just an eye candy. And I can tell you that he was a friend with Bryan Cranston, who also directed that episode with DC'. 'With Bryan Cranston??? He is a very known actor.'..'David Cassidy was very known too..even more.'  Yes, they were friends, and Bryan does sth really extraordinary every year before Christmas. He puts the David's framed autographed pic in his backyard.. pear tree. You can r...

Playing Rick, Brad and Gene.

Image
David's 3 last the  pre- Keith Partridge roles.  April 1st, 1970. Medical Centre, episode 1.24 called '  The Brother's Keeper'. Aired on CBS. The series run for 7 seasons, David appeared at the end of the first one. Not as known as his role in Bonanza, but I think he was great in it.  Another dramatic, good performance, really worth watching. His character, 15 year old boy, Rick Lambert, another teen who has a complicated relationship with his father. David didn't have a lot to play, but he steals every scene, and we are so sorry for this lonely, confused and unhappy boy.  His presence is felt even when he is not on the screen. Great performance, I love especially the scene at the hospital with his older brother. That episode was probably filmed the same time as TPF's pilot and it makes it even more significant. And makes me think again what would have happened if he had quit playing Keith Partridge, and as we know he was thinking about it.. http://www.davidcass...

Ein Schloß am Worthersee

Image
A Castle at Lake Worther, a German-Austrian tv series. There were 3 seasons, from 1990 to 1993. In the episode aired on January 27, 1993, David Cassidy played a rock star, Patrick Riley, whose career was on the rocks because of..alcohol, gambling and beautiful ladies, and Sue played  Patrick's wife, Linda. That episode was filmed in July 1992, in Velden, Austria, and DC and Sue took their young son to Europe with them. Someone wrote in a review that the series was quite good, like  'Love Boat', but better executed. Some former known American stars appeared on it. Telly Savalas, Larry Hagman, Linda Grey and David Cassidy. It's difficult to write anything about his performance. DC told many times that he was interested only in quality and 'no garbage for money'..  but of course he had a young family to support (and his daughter Katie), and I've seen only fragments of his episode on YT, recorded from the TV, and in German. In the video we can see David and Sue....

Wonderful Tracey Wright again, a fellow-fan and so valuable member of The David Cassidy Great Britain Group. She's found it and shared with us. And this is something really extraordinary, the episode  of  a tv show, the episode with David Cassidy,  which I never expected I'd see. I'm so grateful. The tv series, called The John Larroquette Show was aired on NBC from September 2, 1993 until October 30, 1996. And even that it was never really popular, it has a loyal cult following. Betty White ( who died recently) appeared in one of the  episodes and got an Emmy Award for it. It was a sitcom about a recovering alcoholic who becomes the manager of a big city bus station. One critic called it 'sitcom noir', and the first 13 episodes represented the '12 Steps' of AA.. Let's first watch the opening scene and listen to the theme song, wrote and performed by David Cassidy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7LWzWMEbt8 David Cassidy : "I wrote and recorded the ...

'Fun and Games and Michael Ambrose'

Image
The title of Marcus Welby, M.D. episode  (#1.16) which was aired on ABC, on January 13, 1970.  A very important David's title role. He played that kid, Michael. David Cassidy : (Could It Be Forever, 2007) ' My acting was lame on my first couple of shows, but I was really pleased with the job I did on Marcus Welby. I played a diabetic youth who, as a way to punish his father, wouldn't take his insulin. I had to do some highly emotional stuff. Ruth said it was a great piece of work and she would help me get more..' And she found him Keith Partridge..(it's just a remark..) Each decade has its own great and popular tv medical drama. Doctor Kildare..I loved watching ER and later House, M.D, Such medical tv dramas have  enormous audience . And David appeared on Marcus Welby, MD, when that show was nearly at the pic of its popularity. . The first episode was aired on September 23, 1969 and it was an instant, huge hit, it starred Robert Young as the title character, his p...

Fantasy Island

Image
David Cassidy : 'Between 1970 and 1974 I had made about $8 million - virtually all of which was gone by 1980. (..) By 1980 my net worth was less than $100 000. That for me was dead broke. More than that my career was in a toilet. I had trouble getting anyone at my agency, which had been handling me since the early 70s, even return my phone calls. If you are not a big moneymaker anymore, it's as if they don't want to know you, and no one in Hollywood seemed eager to hire David Cassidy any longer' (David Cassidy, 'C'mon, Get Happy..1994) On January 12, 1980 David Cassidy appeared as Danny Collier on 'Fantasy Island', #3. 15.. Fantasy Island (1977-1984), the mysterious Mr Roarke runs an unique resort island in the Pacific Ocean that can fulfill any fantasy, but they rarely turn out as expected. What can I say, this episode with DC was awful every way, the script, other actors... except there is  an interesting comment below that video which explains everyth...

David Cassidy on The FBI

Image
The FBI episode called 'Fatal Impostor' (#5.17) was aired on January 4th 1970 on ABC. It was one of the David Cassidy's seven tv appearances in 1970. The last one of his pre TPF's role was in Mod Squad, and that episode  was aired on April 7th. Later for 4 years he played  Keith Douglas Partridge and a superstar known as David Cassidy...  The F.B.I. was a very popular tv series (1965-1974) , consisting of 9 seasons and 241 episodes. It looks like all actors in Hollywood played in it. Including Harrison Ford as a convicted murderer in that same season as DC. The first seasons were realistic and showed more violence. I've read that every detail of every episode of the series was carefully vetted by FBI second-in-command Clyde Tolson.  The premiere episode called 'The Monster' was about a handsome serial killer who strangled women with their own hair, and it  shocked Clyde Tolson so much that he recommended the show to be cancelled. J. Edgar Hoover tried at lea...

The Love Boat

Image
One other anniversary in November. The Love Boat. The episode with DC was aired on Nov 8, 1980, ep #4.4. David was just one of the guest stars, and not the most important one. And 1980 was a very difficult year for him. 30 year old  former teen idol ..who (as it seemed at the time) had hit bottom. It's scary when you think about DC's life and career in 1980. After the last Man Undercover episode, which was aired in January 1979, David waited for a new role a whole year , to January 1980 when he was on..'Fantasy Island' ( his old TPF's network, ABC), what more his new recorded music on which DC worked for quite a time wasn't released, and in June 1980 Ruth Aarons died. It was another personal  huge blow for David Cassidy. "When she died, I realised I had been so protected and kept away from the business that I had no professional relationships or connections.(..) I was completely lost, because I had known nothing but her guidance. (..) I was crippled by her ...

Girl, You Make My Day / Tommy Boyce, Bobby Hart

Or rather Jay Gruska, you've made my day!!! It was just a few days ago when I wrote a blog about the longer lyrics version of Man Undercover's theme song, and that I'd sent an email to Jay Gruska. This is the blog.. https://talkingaboutdavid.blogspot.com/2021/11/david-cassidy-man-undercover.html And this is  my email Dear Sir,  My name is Weronika Cyrynger and I'm David Cassidy's fan from Poland. Since December 2020 I've been writing quite a popular blog on DC and I help with running his Official Site.  I haven't found any info on your site about your collaboration with DC, and co-writing a theme song for the 'Man Undercover' tv series in 1978 . Or about writing with him 'I Never Saw You Coming' for his album 'Gettin' It In The Street' from 1976. I'm especially interested in the 'Hard Times, Hard Crimes' title song for Man Undercover, because I know there is a longer version of it ( lyrics). I know it was so many year...
