Fantasy Island

David Cassidy : 'Between 1970 and 1974 I had made about $8 million - virtually all of which was gone by 1980. (..) By 1980 my net worth was less than $100 000. That for me was dead broke. More than that my career was in a toilet. I had trouble getting anyone at my agency, which had been handling me since the early 70s, even return my phone calls. If you are not a big moneymaker anymore, it's as if they don't want to know you, and no one in Hollywood seemed eager to hire David Cassidy any longer' (David Cassidy, 'C'mon, Get Happy..1994)

On January 12, 1980 David Cassidy appeared as Danny Collier on 'Fantasy Island', #3. 15..

Fantasy Island (1977-1984), the mysterious Mr Roarke runs an unique resort island in the Pacific Ocean that can fulfill any fantasy, but they rarely turn out as expected. What can I say, this episode with DC was awful every way, the script, other actors... except there is  an interesting comment below that video which explains everything ; 'This is every woman fantasy..'

Aaron Spelling, the executive producer of Fantasy Island said that an original pitch was a joke. He said that he and his production partner were pitching ideas to ABC executive. After the executive rejected all of them, Spelling had enough :"What do you want?? An island that people can go to and all of their sexual fantasies will be realized??' The executive loved the idea..Of course the series was filmed primarily in Burbank. (except the opening scene - Hawaii)

In 1983, again in January, another Fantasy Island with David was aired. This time it was very enjoyable and DC was great, playing Jeremy Todd in the episode called 'The Sonwriter' (#6.11)

Cat Ortiz-White shared with us her memories (on the website) when she visited David on the set of it. It was filmed on November 3,4,5 and 8, 1982 ( she was on 8th) During the breaks she asked DC  :

'Why are you doing this show?' He said 'The script' I said : 'Really?' DC : 'You should see the other scripts that have been sent to me'.

Cat Ortiz-White - 'David once said in a radio interview from the 90s, that one of the reasons he stopped doing tv was because the best things he was being offered were things like The Love Boat or Fantasy Island, he decided to stick with theatre.'
