The Entry Number 900

Image
Let's start with a song. I've listened to it in my car in the morning and I think it's a perfect song for celebrating the entry number 900 of my blog. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiIrTJOLquU It's just a number, but it's amazing really, 900 entries after 4 years of writing about David Cassidy, his music, his life, his legacy and about his fans.  Why I write? I know why and when I started, it was David's 'fault'. I thought quite a lot about writing a blog in the fall of 2020, but it was just an idea, nothing more, but on December 22nd when I actually started it, I didn't think about DC at all. It was one of the worst days of my life, I was sitting later in my room in a kind of stupor, it was midnight, snow was falling heavily outside, and I couldn't even bring myself to take off my coat. And in one moment I looked at this pic you can see today, it was (and still is) on my bedroom wall, and suddenly I heard a voice in my head, 'Get up and st...

'Didn't We Have Ourselves Some Kind of a Summer..'

Image
Yes, we did. And he knew how we loved him. We thought there was still so much time. For us to enjoy his concerts, new songs, interviews, new pics, his letters to us..For him to celebrate his long career and got the recognition he deserved like few others, as an artist, not a teen idol. And maybe had a happy private life.. I've thought about this song today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IasELb7iHo Another 21st. Time doesn't stand still. Only in those horrible moments when we get really bad news. But that's the way it is and today I've spent a happy hour browsing the DC Official Website. So many interviews with only screenshots, not the actual videos. Like this pic. AM Los Angeles (whatever it is), May 1981. Why screenshots, there are 10 of them, but not the video? I have no idea. Let's watch and listen to David on John Davidson Show, June 16, 1981. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1981JohnDavidsonShow.html Amazing..the way he looked and his voice....

Tell Me It's Not True / William Russell

Image
But first 'Sooner or Later'. This song is like written for David Cassidy. He seduces us so easily with his voice..We don't have the video from this live performance, just one pic, but we can very easily imagine David on stage (it was in 1996), singing..'There's nowhere to hide..' https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/DiscographyPages/Sondheim%20A%20Celebration-Sooner%20Or%20Later.mp3 Amazing. A great song of course, Stephen Sondheim got an Academy Award  for 'Sooner or Later' in 1991, and Madonna sang it during the ceremony. A kind of jazz ballad which could have been written and performed in a night club in the 30s. DC was very comfortable with that style and sang those songs from Great American Songbook with such ease and sensitivity.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiIrTJOLquU&t=17s knows I think it's very important to write about David Cassidy's music. From all decades of his career. We have recently lost our weekly David Cassidy Show on ...

'He Was One Of The Finest'

Image
In the morning my wonderful postman arrived on his bike with a parcel from England. At last! A new calendar with the DC's pics from my friend and a fellow-fan, Doreen.  I have quite a collection of those calendars now. But this time I had to wait for it quite long. It has taken Royal Mail and our Poczta Polska, nearly a month to deliver it. I've read some articles compering 1973 in the UK with 2023, because of strikes and financial crisis. Maybe..For us 1973 was the year David Cassidy performed in Europe. He was huge, a superstar.  Those lucky ones who saw him in concert, like Doreen. 50 years ago.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep42l7CacCY Some of my close English friends saw David in concert in 1973, and they told me a lot about it, some really amazing details, how they bought the tickets, waited for that big day, how they got to London: they tried to describe that excitement and joy.  I like the best the story how my friend Jane saw DC in Manchester. She ...

Why We Need David Even More Now..

Image
Me at least. I'm writing my last entry this year, btw it's amazing that I've been writing my blog for more than 2 years, nearly 170 000 views, life is really unpredictable. But let's start with a song, one of my fav, and a great video too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXTNpuu74IA Oh yes, not literally, but of course he is the one we can always run to. 2022 was the year which started very, very badly and still the war is behind our (Polish) east border. But after all the year wasn't so bad, just an usual mix of good and worse days. Some were very difficult, it's just life. But it was a special year because we've lost so many people who have been always present in our lives. Many of us, the DC fans, have lost the loved ones, and it's a kind of loss which changes everything, leaves a scar which will never heal. Hope our support on the social media has helped just a little bit. But I'm thinking also about other people we've lost this year, stranger...

David Cassidy TPF My Christmas Card To You Vocals

Image
I've had at last some time to listen to those DC's vocals (without instruments) recently published on YT. And I still don't know what to think about them. Of course I don't have to have an opinion on everything regarding DC, but Jane has posted several links on the website FB page, and it looks like a lot of fans enjoyed those tapes. So I gave them a try, and still don't know. This is not a first experiment with TPF'songs and I'm a great fan of John Gomolka's tapes, he altered the original tracks to better reflect David's true voice. That recording for example, is just unbelievable. Everytime I listen to it have goosebumps. Like being with him in the studio. Such a fabulous, irresistible voice.. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/DiscographyPages/I'm%20Here%20You're%20Here_JohnGomolkaVersion.mp3 The music and background singers, they do not interfere with admiring the DC's vocals. Because his voice was the most important instrument in ...

Teen Age Idol / Jack Lewis

Image
There are some DC's tribute videos, with his pics but not his music. I'm not a great fan of them. But I'm leaving my blog for a while (a short holiday to avoid those last nervous days before Christmas) and while  looking for an inspiration for today's entry, I have found this video on YT. And like always with David Cassidy, it was the beginning of a new adventure. I mean learning new things and rediscovering some old stuff. DC is always such an inspiration. First of all, that video. Very nice fragments from TPF and DC on the beach, and a wonderful song, one of many of the Ricky Nelson's hits. Of course he was a teen idol too, known all over the world, and a musician, songwriter, singer and a popular tv and movie actor. Inducted into Rock&Roll Hall Of Fame in 1987. Ricky Nelson died in a plane crash on December 31, 1985. He was 45 years old. 'Teen Age Idol' was  recorded in 1962. The lyrics.. as if written for David. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAXgJ0...

The Year Of The Daydreamer

Image
It's impossible not to think about the end of the year, and I'm again surprised that not many days left to another Christmas. And so many things to do. My calendar for the next year has already started to fill up. But who knows what the future brings. Anyway one thing is certain, 2023 will be The Year Of The Daydreamer' (at least for me) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EANv9_fwmmU Syon Park. I was there too, like David, only 45 years later, in August 2018. An amazing experience, in that deserted park nothing, absolutely nothing has changed since 1973. We were standing in silence, the five of us, like we were waiting for David to appear and start walking like in this video. We felt his presence. Of course it's easy to explain, at the time we were still so sad because of his passing, talked about him a lot..Yes, I know, but I always feel his presence when I'm in London.. As we know DC wasn't very impressed by that song, even that he knew it would be a great hit. I...

The Show Must Go On

Image
It was hard to find an appropriate title for today's entry. 'David Cassidy a real workaholic'..'My First Night Alone Without You'..'One Night Stand' or 'We Gotta Get Out Of This Place'.. December, such a difficult and meaningful month for David Cassidy. Both his parents died that month, Jack on December 12th, 1976; Evelyn on 23rd, 10 years ago.  David divorced his first wife, Kay Lenz at the end of December, in 1983. DC : 'I was rather lost, feeling quite depressed over the divorce from Kay and the loss of my friendship with her.' It was such a great love story, but without a good ending. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DS32TrVNUY8 This is amazing, scary even, how hard he worked in December. Mostly on stage.  In December 1983 as Joseph in 'Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' at the O'Keife Center in Toronto, and later with the same show, at the Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh. In December 1995 in the UK, in 'Blood Brothers...

Seeing David in 'Joseph' by Judy West

Image
I'm always so happy when I can publish a fan's memory, especially with so many interesting details. And so moving and personal. This email from Judy was like a first Christmas present for me this year. Thank you so much Judy West, it's a great pleasure to have your story on my blog xxx  http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TheatrePages/JosephVideo.html "I never had the opportunity to see David in concert, but I was so happy to hear that he was doing the play, "Joseph, and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at the Royale Theater in New York! I live in New Jersey, USA, about an hour away from New York City.  My Aunt Lee, who I was very close with, used to enjoy going to plays. When I asked her if she would like to go to New York with me to see David in "Joseph," I was so happy that she said "Yes"!  We took the train into New York, and took a taxi to the theater. I was so happy and excited that I was going to see David in person!  We went into...

Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town / J.Fred Coots, Haven Gillespie

Image
It's not too soon. Actually the song originally became an instant hit in November 1934. Released at the height of Great Depression, it brought love and light, and that first version included lyrics encouraging listeners to be charitable..Something we should remember about this year too. That Christmas standard was recorded by over 200 artists, including The Partridge Family, the song from  'Christmas Card', released by Bell in ..yes, November 1971. I'm glad the info about it is on Wikipedia. And I'm happy because this is my grandsons' fav Christmas song, and all the neighbours have to listen to us singing with David.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5c75EXt38co So it's not too early, just have returned from shopping, and listened for the first time this season to..I'm sure you know what to. Every year the same, and I'm sorry for poor George Michael and his evergreen standard. He wrote it himself  in December 1983. 'Last Christmas' was release...

It's a Long Way to Heaven / Mark James

Image
Since Friday I haven't listened to the David Cassidy's songs. A little bit unusual situation for me. Recently I've had no time for reading at all, so on my flight to London instead headphones I took a book. I was very busy in London. The 5th anniversary. Meeting with other DC's fans. Every night after returning to my hotel I went to bed right away. I didn't turn tv on, even once. But of course we all know all David's recordings by heart, and on my way home this song just started playing in my head https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utV6giIxkcw From 'Crossword Puzzle', the album released in March 1973. The final Partridge Family record to make the album charts, peaked at 167 on Billboard 200, and only for 5 weeks there. Bell Records lost its faith in the group. In 1970, 1971 and 1972 it released as many albums as possible, 7 The Partridge Family's  (including Greatest Hits) and 2 DC's solo albums. As someone wrote :'Bell Records after oversaturat...

Looking For David..

Image
I'm still in London, but just have a free hour, so want to write a few words on that special day..It hasn't been easy today, for us, the fans who met in London on that 5th anniversary. Demanding weather, wind or rain, or both..The Phoenix Garden..it will look better in spring (hope so), The Hammersmith Park closed from the side we've come. It was symbolic really that in spite of everything we kept walking and remembering this amazing man, David Cassidy.. ttps://youtu.be/Wy6cLVQUTUU In White City I couldn't stopped thinking about thousands of fans who were there on the day David played his concert in May 1974. And now after 48 years, the stadium doesn't exist anymore and just  several of middle aged fans have arrived  today. So what will be next with us and our idol, and his legacy.. https://youtu.be/6eYjWoFQKu0 Time..better not to think about it. But it was very optimistic to meet and talk, talking about DC with a fellow fan it's an amazing experience, for me at...

David Cassidy, Lord M. and Sharron

Image
The story of the latest tribute to David Cassidy is so extraordinary, uplifting..like a ray of sunshine in that difficult month, November.  I just can't find words to describe my feelings. David Cassidy's concert tour in March 1973 and his stay at Beaulieu. David remembered by the information board..His name and the year of birth and death. That visit  took place 49 years ago. This tribute makes me sad and happy at the same time. It's very emotional seeing it. A song. About sunshine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er3mY-lWdlA The David Cassidy's legendary concert tour in Europe in March 1973. The main problem was security of course. In February 1972, Dorchester where he stayed was besieged by fans, and in September 1972 he lived on a yacht. The Heathrow Airport authorities had put a ban on any announcements of expected arrivals of pop stars. It took a lot of effort to find a safe place for him while he was in the UK. The first concerts of that tour were in Germany, he w...

David Cassidy And London. November 2022

Image
David Cassidy in London. Such a fascinating story, I've written about it many times, also about my crazy idea writing a tour guide. 'David Cassidy in London'. 3 years ago I was thinking seriously about it. I had 'know how'. how to do it, a lot of info, I came to London in August 2019 with only one goal - to see as much places, buildings connected with DC as possible. I took a lot of pics. I walked ..a lot.  Knightsbridge, because DC lived there, in 'a little apartment near Montpelier Square', and of course I was outside The Dorchester and the Radio Luxembourg offices at Hertford Street..it was so deserted when I was there. no one, not only on the famous balcony. And BBC Broadcasting House, British Film Institute, and theaters and parks, and concert halls. Everywhere. I was even outside Riatlo Theatre. DC and Kay Lenz on March 5, 1977 attended a film premiere there, and told the whole world about their love... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5vgBJhthBA But I...

'I Recently Discovered David's Music..'

Image
Her name is Isabel and she has written those words after signing the petition. Music Walk Of Fame Artist Stone Honour For David Cassidy. London Music Walk Of Fame. Isabel is one of 1181 fans who have thought (so far) that David Cassidy should be honoured that way. She wrote : 'I recently discovered David's music by chance and I think he was/is very talented and gifted. I'm in my early 20s and I hope more people from my generation take an interest..' David's music, that wonderful, magical collection of unforgettable songs, the result of tireless passion, work and talent. And perfectionism. His legacy. Whatever he sang, in every decade. No matter what. Whether it was The Partridge Family's recording or a performance in Las Vegas, or a tv guest appearance. A concert for 200 people or 40 000. Always 100 %.  Ain't No Sunshine.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=We_T5LPBuFM I like not only what, but also how she's written it. That she calls him David, like the r...

The Comment

Image
But first Happy Birthday Timothy B. Schmit (btw B. is for..Bruce).  As always, I'm late a little bit, he had birthday on October 30, and now (difficult to believe), he is 75. He nearly died 10 years ago because throat and neck cancer. Ex Poco and The Eagles of course, a songwriter, vocalist and bassist. David's friend once. David recorded his song in 1979, it's better than the Poco's original (in my opinion of course). I love this song and first of all  David's interpretation. It's so cool and laid-back. Wonderful. One day I will make a video with that song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwPdyNVp3oI So the comment. Maybe I shouldn't write about it, blame.. the leaves. We've had a great weather today and I've been fighting with the leaves in my garden. I have two huge oak trees, I have no choice..So I've been raking, enjoying the company of some squirrels, woodpeckers and my own stray cat. And I didn't want it, but  started thinking about th...

Not So Ordinary Fans

Image
Today the transcript of a conversation from the Bret Easton Ellis Show has been published.  The interview with Quentin Tarantino. Both of them born in the 60s (QT in 1963), they have talked a lot how it was  wonderful to be a teen in the 70s. The joy of going to cinema, a lot of great, really important movies, everybody watched them. Quentin Tarantino : 'Even in elementary school we talked about movies we saw.'.  So true, I remember the same. TV was also important, a lot of the shows being watched by whole families. Now it's hard to imagine something like that.  And music, Quentin Tarantino again :  'The pop sound of The Partridge Family, which I appreciate to this day. I actually think David Cassidy is one of the most underrated vocalist in rock history..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSExKeJlc3Q Just wonderful, the music, the sound, and the David Cassidy's singing. His joy. I love this song so much. Here is he link to that conversation https://unherd.com/20...

Love Is a River in Time

Image
Written, no, no by DC, but by Andrew Gold and ..yes, Sue Shifrin. Of course it's David's song. Such passion, emotion and perfection. David Cassidy at his best.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sukzVzSy57g I have nothing against Halloween. On the contrary. We didn't have it when Poland was a communist country and I was a teen, and now kids here enjoy it the same way as other kids all around the world. I appreciate it even more than you could think. I studied librarianship, my specialisation was children's literature, books wrote for and..by kids, and we spent a lot of interesting hours with our promotor discussing the meaning of tales, traditional, folk and copyright. And why kids like to be scared. Why it's important. But every country has own traditions, and here in Poland, not Halloween, but  All Saints Day on the 1st of November is very important. It has a very long tradition, and the origin of it is pre- Christianity.  So people visit cementaries, light candles ...

Driving With David..

Image
Something very short and personal this evening. I thought that  I'll not write anything today, was so busy in Warsaw..but I've just returned home, to my forest, 10.30 p.m. is maybe not so late, but not in the place I live. But the song first, wrote by David Cassidy, Gerry Beckley and a true legend, Brian Wilson, sang by David, Gerry Beckley and Jay Gruska. 'Get your car, get your car..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQO4CWkFBn4 I must confess that sometimes  ..maybe  not laugh, but I smile when I see the pics with DC as a guardian angel. But how many times, when I'm nervous or have some problems, it's enough to start driving and listening to his music to calm down and smile again. I have no idea how many kilometers I drove in the company of David, his music. A lot.. My all neighbours know my car and the music I play in it, and sing. The first 2 km from my house is just a local country road, you can't  drive fast, also because of animals walking that road.....
