Why We Need David Even More Now..

Image
Me at least. I'm writing my last entry this year, btw it's amazing that I've been writing my blog for more than 2 years, nearly 170 000 views, life is really unpredictable. But let's start with a song, one of my fav, and a great video too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXTNpuu74IA Oh yes, not literally, but of course he is the one we can always run to. 2022 was the year which started very, very badly and still the war is behind our (Polish) east border. But after all the year wasn't so bad, just an usual mix of good and worse days. Some were very difficult, it's just life. But it was a special year because we've lost so many people who have been always present in our lives. Many of us, the DC fans, have lost the loved ones, and it's a kind of loss which changes everything, leaves a scar which will never heal. Hope our support on the social media has helped just a little bit. But I'm thinking also about other people we've lost this year, stranger

Mother And Child Reunion / Paul Simon

I've wanted to write about that song, many, many times. Even once or twice have started, written something and resigned. But after yesterday's entry about 'Spooky' I listened a little bit to 'A Touch Of Blue' album. Btw what a great title for it. Because he recorded it with joy and sadness.  DC : 'I recorded the Touch of Blue album in Hollywood, It is one of my two or three favourite recordings of mine because it was recorded live and in the studio at Capitol. It was as organic as I could possibly make it - live vocals and singing with a live band. (..) I wanted to record the way Sinatra did and at the same studio where all those fabulous Big Band recordings were done for so many years. Nat King Cole. Sinatra. Bobby Darin.' (David Cassidy : Could It Be Forever ?, 2007) So it was a joy to work where those greatest had worked too, but it was also returning to his teenage years, and to the 70s. 'New York City Life', his own big-band number, so fabul

'Spooky' or 'Come to Hawaii with me'

I've never heard about the band called The Classics IV, and their hit, 'Spooky', recorded in summer of 1967. A popular Halloween hit. I've learned about them, because David Cassidy recorded his own cover of 'Spooky' for his album, 'A Touch of Blue'. The group was a cover band from Florida, and it seems that from the beginning they had problems how to call themselves. At first it was 'The Classics', because the drummer had a Classic drum set. When they were to record their first album they learned there had already been another recording act called 'The Classics', so they added 'IV' to the name, because at the time there were four members.. There are 4 people who had credits to 'Spooky' (Mike Shapiro, Harry Middlebrooks Jr, James Cobb and Buddy Blue), because 'Spooky' was originally an instrumental song, the lyrics were written later by one of The Classics IV's member, and their producer. Sang by the drummer..

The Film David Wanted to Make

Image
In March 1976, Giovanni Dadomo interviewed David Cassidy in London. For 'Sound Magazine'. They met in the morning on the same day when DC appeared on The Russell Harty Show. And maybe let's start with the song David performed at the end of that show..I know I've written about 'Then I'll Be Someone' so many times, but I love that song and to think that it was just a coincidence that we have that live recording. And it makes me think about other songs, those we don't even know about.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZFHa3QOvkI So in the morning (the article appeared on April 3, 1976) Giovanni Dadomo met with DC at his hotel, and they talked also about David's plans for the future. What about a movie? "Well, I've read fine screenplay, but I'm not really sure I'm going to be doing it.' He has, he says, received a whole bundle of screenplays - everything from the obvious vehicles for his old blue-eyed, white-toothed Partridge Family

'40 Carats', 'Breezy' and very busy David Cassidy

I want to write today about those movie roles DC was offered in the 70s. Or truly speaking about one role. We don't know how it really was, maybe it was just a gossip, but there is one article on the website with info, that in 1973 DC turned down the role in a film called '40 Carats'.  It happened that I saw that film in the early 80s on our Polish tv, and I remember that I liked it, but thought there was no chemistry between those two lovers, and first of all that it was absolutely impossible that 22-year-old man could have been in love with a 40-year-old woman. At the time I was under 20 myself so you can understand it.  In '40 Carats', Liv Ullmann plays a successful businesswoman, who on holiday in Greece meets a handsome young man, who helps her when her car breaks down. They goes for a drink and later..get to know each other better. Even that the young man is very nice (in that role 22 year old Edward Albert),  the woman thinks it's just a holiday fling, no

'A Solid Movie For David'

It's Christmas and I'm writing a new entry. Crazy. Not exactly, because in Poland the most important is Christmas Eve, and yesterday my house was full of laughter, young and old members of my family so happy to spend that time together. I'm so blessed, I know. But I've also returned with a cold from my holiday. When I was in Antalya to see The Aquarium (btw it was awful, a big prison especially for those poor sharks), anyway, that day was sunny but it was also a very cold wind.  So today I'm left alone in my room and I'm watching tv and writing about David. We still miss him. We, his fans. We'd have loved to know he was happy and healthy, spending Christmas with his family... Wish you were here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00eV8n-LtQY I'm doing something for the website and reading old newspapers' articles. There are some great ones from 1971,  thoughtful and written with a sympathy for a young teen idol. Btw it's so important  to have all ar

David Cassidy TPF My Christmas Card To You Vocals

I've had at last some time to listen to those DC's vocals (without instruments) recently published on YT. And I still don't know what to think about them. Of course I don't have to have an opinion on everything regarding DC, but Jane has posted several links on the website FB page, and it looks like a lot of fans enjoyed those tapes. So I gave them a try, and still don't know. This is not a first experiment with TPF'songs and I'm a great fan of John Gomolka's tapes, he altered the original tracks to better reflect David's true voice. That recording for example, is just unbelievable. Everytime I listen to it have goosebumps. Like being with him in the studio. Such a fabulous, irresistible voice.. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/DiscographyPages/I'm%20Here%20You're%20Here_JohnGomolkaVersion.mp3 The music and background singers, they do not interfere with admiring the DC's vocals. Because his voice was the most important instrument in

Come Away with Me / Norah Jones

I'm still on my holiday, leaving early morning tomorrow. The best hotel I've ever been, it's only because it's out of season that I could afford it. I don't know why it was so cheap, the food alone I managed to eat costed more than I paid for a week there.. Amazing place, Turkish Riviera, near Side. You can forget about everything really.  I spent a lot of time at the beach caffee, there were great tables and comfortable chairs, so I was soaking in the rays (as DC used to say), reading and listening to the music. Even the music which was played there wasn't bad actually. But of course with each and every song I thought about DC.. 'Chicago' - 'Hard to Say I'm Sorry', and me, 'DC played 'Beginnings' in the 70s', 'Cherish - Kool and the Gang, you know what I've thought..so it was like that, Norah Jones, I read somewhere how DC'd liked her. And I thought what a great title it would have been for a book about David and

Teen Age Idol / Jack Lewis

Image
There are some DC's tribute videos, with his pics but not his music. I'm not a great fan of them. But I'm leaving my blog for a while (a short holiday to avoid those last nervous days before Christmas) and while  looking for an inspiration for today's entry, I have found this video on YT. And like always with David Cassidy, it was the beginning of a new adventure. I mean learning new things and rediscovering some old stuff. DC is always such an inspiration. First of all, that video. Very nice fragments from TPF and DC on the beach, and a wonderful song, one of many of the Ricky Nelson's hits. Of course he was a teen idol too, known all over the world, and a musician, songwriter, singer and a popular tv and movie actor. Inducted into Rock&Roll Hall Of Fame in 1987. Ricky Nelson died in a plane crash on December 31, 1985. He was 45 years old. 'Teen Age Idol' was  recorded in 1962. The lyrics.. as if written for David. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAXgJ0

Frosty The Snowman / Walter Rollins and Steve Nelson

Image
'This is a wonderful rendition of this song. Had never really paid much attention to the words until David sang this'. Someone wrote such a comment a few years ago, and it's so true, I absolutely agree, the same. The way he sang Frosty The Snowman, a popular song wrote in 1950..like it was the most wonderful story in the world, like he thought about each and every word, and probably he did, an actor was singing, young and sensitive, a perfectionist blessed with such a fabulous, magical voice.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5thP8z_SK2g The Partridge Family Christmas Card was released 51 years ago. Who writes Christmas cards in 2022 (I do). That album is like a fabulous card from the world which not exist any more. But of course we still listen to it. Like always with David, the songs are bitter-sweet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BTwalwPTQo There is always that 'touch of blue', sadness, whatever we call it, in many of his songs. Also with those from TPF Christm

'I Wouldn't Miss It For The World

This time I start with the PETITION, we cherish each and every signature, 1284 fans have thought that David Cassidy is good enough to have his stone..The London Music Walk of Fame. https://chng.it/NgppymDR6K David Cassidy and his fans, amazing story of love and in some cases  serious obsession, DC had some stalkers, in every decade. There were difficult situations for him and his loved ones. In the 70s several times he feared for his life, and in every decade there  were some fans agressive and demanding, who thought they owned him..  DC lost his patience a few times during concerts or public appearances, but of course it's absolutely understandable. There was only one David and millions of fans, day in and day out, all his life he heard how he was loved by strangers, how important for them was meeting him, just for a moment. He signed millions of albums, posters, pics, books and tshirts, kissed and hugged who know how many ..strangers. Of course they were fans.. He always understo

Living A Lie / David Cassidy and Gerry Beckley

It was Jane's, our webmaster, a brilliant idea. To put links to songs in the Lyrics section. I love how one thing leads to another, inspiration and ideas we have. It's always like that and we always have more ideas than time to actually develop and realize all of them. Anyway this one is just great. From time to time someone asks me 'Ok, so you are a die hard David Cassidy fan, you've just told me he was not only a pretty face but first of all one of the most underrated singers in the history of music. What song do you suggest to start with?' or I've heard a few times : 'I've checked your David, but that 'I Think I Love You' is for kids. Do you really like it?'.That's the problem with David, he could sing everything, he's sung such different songs in his career, his voice kept changing.  And I know there are still new fans, even quite young, who don't know many things about David, they have just started learning about him, and d

'Can't Stop Dreaming About You..'

Image
I hope DC never heard this song. Or his friends. I can imagine Steve Ross, Sam Hyman and Henry Diltz (for example) singing him : 'Daavvviddd'..The title was 'David, Donny and Michael', wrote by Laurice Marshall (probably). Anyway I've thought about it, because today is  Donny (Donald) Osmond's  birthday.  But be careful, I've listened to it once in the morning, and I'm singing all day long..'Can't stop dreaming about you..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCjnepKPMZg It's easy to laugh, and actually I laughed a lot when I listened to it for the first time a few years ago, but not today. They are not with us anymore, Michael, and first of all David, and Donny is 65. And I've also thought how difficult it was for David, that he, a grown up man, was lumped together as a teen idol with those much younger boys. Because in 1972 it was a huge age difference, DC was 22, Donny 15, and Michael Jackson even younger.  David or Donny ? That was a

'David Cassidy : Teenage Dream' and 'The Partridge Family'

Two great documentaries, both were first aired in December. The first one in 1998,  the other, 20 years ago. Why write about them at all? We've all seen those videos many times. Yes, of course..but I've been doing sth for the website today, about the DC's tv guest appearances in December, through the years, btw we still don't have a lot of programs, and so many times there is incomplete date or info. Sometimes it's just a title, nothing more. But that's the way it is.  So I've been browsing, checking info, and ..instead doing something useful I started watching. E.g. I've completely forgotten about that DC's performance. On December 8th, 1997. The Billboard Music Awards. That year the most popular were Spice Girls, Celine, Britney, Backstreet Boys, Toni Braxton to name a few, They performed live during the Awards, also David Cassidy. He sang I Think I Love You, and the audience loved his performance. He didn't get any award, but the ceremony wa

Susan Dey..on the LA Law Reunion

Image
I've thought I would not write about Susan Dey's birthday. She will be 70 on December 10.  We know everything, but on the other hand nothing about her, she is a very private person. But of course we love writing about Susan and David. They were so beautiful and there was such chemistry between them on the set of TPF. The way they looked at each other. After all these years they became a truly iconic, romantic couple from the 70s, there are still quite a lot of articles about..you know. But of course this is not our business. Only Susan and David knew how it really was. Her mother died when Susan was eight, she started her career as a model in the late 60s, and she became a role model for many teenage girls. She looked so gorgeous, and e.g. wasn't afraid to take part in one of the first campaign encouraging girls to use tampons. The campaign was also educational,  called 'Getting To Know Yourself'.  Laurie Partridge, she was Susan's alter ego. No character in t

The Year Of The Daydreamer

Image
It's impossible not to think about the end of the year, and I'm again surprised that not many days left to another Christmas. And so many things to do. My calendar for the next year has already started to fill up. But who knows what the future brings. Anyway one thing is certain, 2023 will be The Year Of The Daydreamer' (at least for me) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EANv9_fwmmU Syon Park. I was there too, like David, only 45 years later, in August 2018. An amazing experience, in that deserted park nothing, absolutely nothing has changed since 1973. We were standing in silence, the five of us, like we were waiting for David to appear and start walking like in this video. We felt his presence. Of course it's easy to explain, at the time we were still so sad because of his passing, talked about him a lot..Yes, I know, but I always feel his presence when I'm in London.. As we know DC wasn't very impressed by that song, even that he knew it would be a great hit. I

'David Cassidy Owned And Worn Jumpsuit..'

There is a section on the David Cassidy Official Website called Biography. It consists of the following parts : Biography (a short one). The Early Years (just a few pics), Charities and Fundrising, Racing, Interesting Facts (a little mess there), Public Speaking, Public Appearances and Awards. This evening while doing sth for the website I've had to look at Charities and Fundrising. Wow so many events, I'm sure not everything is listed. And I've left my work and started reading. Just amazing. The events organized by DC and Sue, 'A Day At The Races', or 'The David Cassidy Golf Tournament', Kosovo Children, Voices That Care, Stand And Be Proud...  'Sondheim a Celebration', that concert took place on March 8, 1996, and it was to benefit the AIDS Service Centre and AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Very special, important event for DC, also because  that evening he sang with his brothers, Shaun and Patrick ('You Can Drive a Person Crazy').  And he sang

David As David Greeley and a 'Technican In Hamburg'

Image
'The Night the City Screamed' was first aired on December 14, 1980, 42 years ago. On ABC. While searching for some info I looked at the DC profile on IMDb. Nice David's pic and those dates 1950-2017. Will I ever get used to it..This is so strange, I mean we know that DC is dead, but.. Anyway, what a surprise, nothing important, but do you know that David has an uncredited role in a film from 1975 called 'Rosebud'. With Peter O'Toole, a film about terrorism, also with young Isabelle Hupert and Kim Cattrall (that was her debut, she was just 19). It seems DC appeared there as a 'Technican in Hamburg'. There is a trailer on IMDb, rather awful, and a review ('the film is horrible'). And one other surprise, the soundtrack consisted of a song, wrote by the DC's friend Harry Nilsson and sang by..Kim.I wonder if anyone knew something about it.  But let's return to 'The Night The City Screamed'. A lot of familiar names. Mel Swope, The Partr

The Show Must Go On

It was hard to find an appropriate title for today's entry. 'David Cassidy a real workaholic'..'My First Night Alone Without You'..'One Night Stand' or 'We Gotta Get Out Of This Place'.. December, such a difficult and meaningful month for David Cassidy. Both his parents died that month, Jack on December 12th, 1976; Evelyn on 23rd, 10 years ago.  David divorced his first wife, Kay Lenz at the end of December, in 1983. DC : 'I was rather lost, feeling quite depressed over the divorce from Kay and the loss of my friendship with her.' It was such a great love story, but without a good ending. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DS32TrVNUY8 This is amazing, scary even, how hard he worked in December. Mostly on stage.  In December 1983 as Joseph in 'Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' at the O'Keife Center in Toronto, and later with the same show, at the Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh. In December 1995 in the UK, in 'Blood Brothers&
