'Didn't We Have Ourselves Some Kind of a Summer..'

Image
Yes, we did. And he knew how we loved him. We thought there was still so much time. For us to enjoy his concerts, new songs, interviews, new pics, his letters to us..For him to celebrate his long career and got the recognition he deserved like few others, as an artist, not a teen idol. And maybe had a happy private life.. I've thought about this song today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IasELb7iHo Another 21st. Time doesn't stand still. Only in those horrible moments when we get really bad news. But that's the way it is and today I've spent a happy hour browsing the DC Official Website. So many interviews with only screenshots, not the actual videos. Like this pic. AM Los Angeles (whatever it is), May 1981. Why screenshots, there are 10 of them, but not the video? I have no idea. Let's watch and listen to David on John Davidson Show, June 16, 1981. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1981JohnDavidsonShow.html Amazing..the way he looked and his voice....

'David Cassidy : Teenage Dream' and 'The Partridge Family'

Image
Two great documentaries, both were first aired in December. The first one in 1998,  the other, 20 years ago. Why write about them at all? We've all seen those videos many times. Yes, of course..but I've been doing sth for the website today, about the DC's tv guest appearances in December, through the years, btw we still don't have a lot of programs, and so many times there is incomplete date or info. Sometimes it's just a title, nothing more. But that's the way it is.  So I've been browsing, checking info, and ..instead doing something useful I started watching. E.g. I've completely forgotten about that DC's performance. On December 8th, 1997. The Billboard Music Awards. That year the most popular were Spice Girls, Celine, Britney, Backstreet Boys, Toni Braxton to name a few, They performed live during the Awards, also David Cassidy. He sang I Think I Love You, and the audience loved his performance. He didn't get any award, but the ceremony wa...

Seeing David in 'Joseph' by Judy West

Image
I'm always so happy when I can publish a fan's memory, especially with so many interesting details. And so moving and personal. This email from Judy was like a first Christmas present for me this year. Thank you so much Judy West, it's a great pleasure to have your story on my blog xxx  http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TheatrePages/JosephVideo.html "I never had the opportunity to see David in concert, but I was so happy to hear that he was doing the play, "Joseph, and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" at the Royale Theater in New York! I live in New Jersey, USA, about an hour away from New York City.  My Aunt Lee, who I was very close with, used to enjoy going to plays. When I asked her if she would like to go to New York with me to see David in "Joseph," I was so happy that she said "Yes"!  We took the train into New York, and took a taxi to the theater. I was so happy and excited that I was going to see David in person!  We went into...

The Man Is A Legend..

Image
I was to write something else yesterday, an entry called, 'The Sound Of The Partridge Family', John B ähler had a birthday, He was born in 1940, a singer, arranger, conductor, composer and producer. The elder brother of Tom. They are two of the most recorded singers in history. It's a shame that so much of their work are not credited. They sang on hundreds of tv show themes, movie soundtracks, commercial jingles, and many songs as back and lead singers. In the 60 they had their own band, and they recorded this hit which later was re-recorded for The Partridge Family. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7NUB5rxKwQ There is an amazing, very interesting interview on www.cmongethappy.com. Tom Bahler in conversation with Scott Awley. How happened that they were hired to be at first..The Partridge Family and got royalties as a group. What they thought when Wes Farrell became a musical director and an unknown kid a lead singer. How the songs were recorded.  This is a fascinating re...

November 1970..

Image
November, the  month so special for us, David Cassidy's fans all over the world. And not only because of the upcoming anniversary, btw it will be a very difficult day. Someone wrote a few days ago, 'it's surreal'. Yes, 5 years and we still can't come to terms with it. Maybe a song.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wy6cLVQUTUU November was always a very busy month for David Cassidy. A lot of memorable concerts, tv appearances, also as a guest star on many tv programmes, promo tours. Today I want to write about the November 52 years ago, November 1970. The month David became a star, and his song became number 1 on the Billboard chart. The first song he ever recorded.  He didn't play concerts at the time, but he was so busy, I don't think he watched the Partridge Family's episodes aired in November 1970. 'Danny And The Mob', 'But The Memory Lingers On', 'Did You Hear the One About Danny', 'Go Directly To Jail'. Danny..those e...

Danny Boy / Frederic Weatherly

or Jack and David singing together on Merv Griffin Show on August 23, 1971. It's impossible not to be moved when you hear the young David's  magical voice..That interview was so important and difficult  for the 21 year old DC. And singing with his father. At least we have the audio of it.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kc5ZZ0iSFbk&t=63s I thought about this recording yesterday evening. Columbo again on one of the tv channels. Last week was the episode with Sal Mineo, yesterday with Jack Cassidy. His last one, from 1976. He appeared 3 times on Columbo. On the episode called 'Murder by the Book', aired in September 1971 (directed by Steven Spielberg), "Publish or Perish', January 1974, and the one I saw yesterday, one of the most memorable Columbo's episode ever, 'Now You See Him..'. Jack as The Great Santini, once ex-Nazi, Stefan Mueller. It was the first time yesterday since the 70s that  I saw this episode from start to finish on a quite  big...

The Lost Concerts

Image
And tv appearances. Like that one from Spain, where DC appeared on a tv program called 'Estelar Del Sabado', in March 1973, and sang 2 songs. My FB friend, Encarni Perez tried to get it, but the tape doesn't exist any more. We have only a pic ot two. There is quite a long list of the tv programmes DC took part in, and we have just a basic info about them. We even don't have videos of all his television acting roles, the earliest ones. His first one from 1959, 'House On High Street', (episode unknown), or when he was on The Survivors (episode 7, aired November 7, 1969). There is also another one I really regret - 'This Is The Life' (another title 'The Fisher Family'), an episode from a very long running religious series. The David's character was called Gene Sander, and that episode concerned problems related to premarital sex..At least we have 2 pics..So the first his acting tv role we have, actually was his third. Ironside (Dec 25, 1969), ...

There'll Come a Time / David Cassidy

Image
The song first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsyUNt6G7-Q Oh yes, we took a good look and we knew he wasn't a circus clown. David was smiling singing this song. Of course Keith smiled a lot on stage, but this time it was David performing, rather than Keith (you know what I mean), and he was soo happy. His own song, without the Wes's name in credits. At least that one time. Time..he was only 22 (that episode was aired in March 1973. He had a whole life ahead of him. He was young, beautiful, rich and famous. We don't think about time when we are young or that one day we will be..old. Science fiction. But that song was recorded more that 48 years ago and today I've been thinking about TIME a lot. Since I've read that yesterday Michael Barratt died. He was 94. A lot of tributes, obituaries.. everywhere. He started his career very early, as a tea boy and horoscope writer on Sunday Mail. Best known as a main presenter on Nationwide from 1969 to 1977. For us, the David C...

The Lost Tapes and David Cassidy in Conversation with Selina Scott

Image
I have no idea about other known musicians and their websites, but I feel disappointed that so many of DC's tv guest appearances and radio interviews are lost for us ..I'm afraid forever. Of course from time to time sth amazing emerges out of the blue, and I was very excited 2 years ago when Gary published  this video, and I'm grateful in spite of .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMUapVQ7LiI Nearly everyday we have something new. A fan sends some old pics took 50 years ago, or an article no one heard about, or a concert audio. Now there are also podcasts and I think the links to them should be on the website too. Everything is important. Consider the 70s concerts. Let's say August 13, 1972. 2 concerts at Wildwood Convention Hall, NJ. We have 1 photo and audio from both concerts, only because a fan, Betty Ernst saw DC twice that day and she recorded everything on a cassette tape and Lucio many years later made out of them  digital recordings. Truly amazing experience l...

Rock Me Baby / Johnny Cymbal, Peggy Clinger

Image
Johnny Cymbal,( born in 1945 as John Hendry Blair) a Scottish- born American songwriter, producer and a singer. For a while a teen idol himself, after writing and recording that song. . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZr8iReEqMQ With his wife Peggy Clinger he wrote some songs for The Partridge Family. Peggy, a beautiful brunette, in the late 60s performed with her 3 sisters. She was born in 1949, died in 1975 of drug overdose. Johnny in 1993 of a heart attack..Here is Peggy in the lead performing with 'The Clingers'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-4Qb8K9xn0 For The Partridge Family they wrote together -  'It's All In Your Mind' (Shopping Bag), with Wes Farrell - 'Love Must Be the Answer' (Notebook), 'I Got Your Love All Over Me' (Crossword Puzzle) and from that last album also 'It's You'..'Hello baby, yes it's me again once more..'  Magic.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h98MKT_x6dU And they also wrote a song  first relea...

1972. Concerts. Part 1. Madison Square Garden.

Image
1972..Half a century ago, an amazing year for David Cassidy, with some incredible highes and a lot of work and stress. A strange year, he broke the attendance record at the Steel Pier, he played Madison Square Garden concert, but his Hollywood Bowl gig was cancelled because of the poor ticket sales. And sometimes he performed in half- filled concert halls. It was obvious that David's career in his native country had slowed down.. I just don't know where to start and how. If I were to write a serious book about David Cassidy the chapter called let's say '1972 - Didn't We Have Ourselves Kind Of A Summer', would be very, very long. Some outstanding, memorable concerts, but not all of them as successful as we used to think. 2 TPF's albums, 2 DC's solo records, more popular in the UK than in America, 23 The Partridge Family's episodes were aired that year, The Bob Hope Special.., The Naked Lunch Box. In 1972 DC was twice in in the UK, and also in Holland ...

'Hopefully I Will Be 70 and 80..'

Image
I've wanted to write about DC's February tv appearances, those from 1970 ( Bonanza and Adam-12), and his last one ever, on CSI. That episode was aired on February 27, 2013. DC's character was murdered in a lift (in an awful way). I saw that fragment some years ago, but today I've been searching but haven't found. Instead I've started watching that amazing interview, called 'Unscripted with David Cassidy'. I saw it some time ago, but today it has moved me..a lot. That interview is from 2008 (DC said in one place that his daughter Katie is 22), so  let's start with a song from that year, or rather a fragment from the Glasgow 2008 concert, when DC was trying to sing 'Could It Be Forever..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnB2OqyZBWI Amazing..They were sooo happy together, David Cassidy and his fans..As it was still 1973. David's TV guest appearances, there is a list of more than 600 on The DC Official Website, and all the time something new ...

Strengthen My Love / Tim Moore

Image
Let's listen to a  beautiful song wrote by that gorgeous and very interesting man, and really an outstanding musician, Tim Moore. From 1974 - 'A Fool Like You'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVlSSnvrHGw Amazing..and I've learnt about him only because David Cassidy recorded his other song, and performed it live on tv. I love reading fans comments on YT, because you can learn a lot that way, some valuable info and also what fans know and think. And hardly ever anything surprises me. But once I've read something which really has irritated me (I think I've mentioned it in one of my early blogs).  Someone wrote sth like that - 'It was foolish that DC thought himself a serious singer and wanted a respect from his peers, because he sang bubble gum music and his peers were Donny Osmond  and Michael Jackson'. It was written with such  contempt and absolutely not true. I think I even wrote an answer to that comment. That Donny Osmond and Michael Jackson were (an...

David Cassidy and Bravo..

Image
A fellow fan and a friend, wonderful Araceli Ramirez from Spain posted yesterday a video I've never seen before. I knew about that programme earlier, and there are screen shots on the DC Official website, but no video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0k-U77UEwxw Wow..that hair, everybody looked like that in the 80s, even me..It's amazing that all the time something new appears..And that video has made me think about the importance of Bravo in the 70s. We lived behind the Iron Curtain, Poland was a communist country, so we didn't have Western mgazines.or any newspapers or books. Some western music was played on our radio, but I didn't know how my fav singers looked like. It changed  a little bit in the second part of the 70s when they loosened our leash a bit. Some music programmes appeared on our tv, some stars were invited to take part in them , ABBA and 10 CC for example , but that lack of choice was very depressing. For many Polish teens  in the 70 the German Bravo w...

David Cassidy on The Wolfman Jack Show

Image
Can you believe it that programme was recorded  45 years ago, in October 1976 (probably)... The last RCA David's album 'Gettin' It In The Street' was scheduled for release in November. The title song only got  on a Billboard chart called 'Bubbling Under' ( so it didn't make it to Hot 100), and number 7 in the weekly Top 20 voted by the readers of 'Bravo' in Germany. There was quite a lot of publicity, articles about Mick Ronson playing for David..but nothing could have helped this very good and a very personal David Cassidy's album. 'This is a thoroughly modern pop album favouring soft yet sprightly melodies over a persistent disco beat. There are two big showstoppers - 'I'll Have To Go Away' and Harry Nilsson's pastiche 'The Story of Rock & Roll' (..) That 'Gettin' It In The Street' didn't wind up achieving its goal, didn't even receive American release shouldn't have held against it, as i...

David Cassidy Conversation With Piers Morgan

Image
David Cassidy still evokes strong emotions. In spite of the message - 'love and light', 'be kind..' etc, we fans are not one very happy family. Truly speaking I like when people have different opinions, of course they should respect each other . And recently I've had another conversation (this is a never ending story really) about why we (middle aged women mostly), still cherish David Cassidy's young pics and why I write so much about his career in the 70s. What to say. Yes, it can look strange. I have quite a lot of DC's pics in my room. Mostly David in his twenties, photos made 40 or even 50 years ago. I have  his giant, original poster. And I'm not a 14 year old girl, on the contrary. A grandmother actually, a former teacher and librarian. Even my 3 year old grandson knows David Cassidy. I prefer to think that there is nothing wrong with those pics, they are just very nice, make me smile every day and that David Cassidy is a kind of ..hobby. I didn...

'We Only Ask The Questions..'

Image
I've once roughly counted David Cassidy's tv appearances as a guest star. More than 600. The first video we have is from May 1970, The Dating Game.Very young DC (pretending to be so shy with girls)  and three really glamorous ladies..The last interview is from March 2017. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/2017Nov22ExtraTV.html And sometimes on YT appears a new video no one has ever seen before, or an old one but of a better quality. Yes, it's a problem, a lot of them are not good and I think there are some programs we can use to improve quality of those old videos. Anyway, this one has appeared this year, and I've had a pleasure of taking screen shots of it. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1985Oct23_GoodMorningAmerica.html During those years David Cassidy was interviewed by many very known journalists and tv personalities - Michael Barratt, Michael Aspel, Russel Harty, Geraldo Rivera, Dinah Shore, Merv Griffin, Gloria Hunniford, Johnatan R...

Oprah, Sweet Vendetta...2008 , a Year to Remember..

Image
2008 started great, David Cassidy was welcomed by the screaming and enthusiastic audience on the most popular and influential tv show, The Oprah Winfrey Show.  It was recorded on February 6. He sang ITILY at the beginning, and at the end 'I'll Meet You Halfway' in the new dance version.. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/OprahWinfreyShow.html David Cassidy's tv appearances. A lot of hard work, scripts and rehearsals and makeup, and talking about the same things all over again, I know this is showbusiness, and tv talk shows especially in the US are very popular. 'Oprah' still remains the highest - rated talk show in American tv history.  In 2008 the programme was still aired nationally with an average audience above 7 million. For David his appearance on it meant that he  was a big star again.  He talked about his career, his loneliness while on top, TPF, the friendship with John Lennon, his children. The audience was very happy, dancing and singin...
