Blackbird / John Lennon, Paul McCartney

I've just returned from a very unusal holiday. A mountain range at the south of Poland, a magical place, forgotten by people . There are mountains all along our south border..but those mountains are like from fairy tales. It was my sister's idea, we used to go there on holidays when we were kids. I haven't seen my sister for 2 years (she lives abroad and has come to Poland for 3 weeks), such an unique opportunity to spend some great time together, those mountains are just 450 km from Warsaw, but it's a different world..And one day, while hiking, I suddenly thought about that song.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_bTcWq7ggM This is one of those rare David Cassidy's songs which has taken me some time (truly speaking a lot of ) to really appreciate it. I never didn't  really like The Beatles'  original, never thought about the lyrics, the meaning of it. It was written and performed (also music) by Paul McCartney, and yes, I liked it, but nothing more, one of

The Everly Brothers..and David and Glen..

Image
I've known these songs..forever. They were often played on our radio when I was a kid. So sweet, beautiful voices singing about..I had no idea about what, I didn't know English at all..but I knew that they were singing about love..Like this one 'Let It Be Me'..btw it's a cover of a French song from 1955, written by Gilbert Becaud.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKYDCSjnAIU Have you heard those screams? They were teen idols for a while..Isaac Donald 'Don' Everly (1937 - August 21, 2021) and Philip 'Phil' Everly (1939 - 2014 ). The Everly Brothers..Their first hit song came in 1957 - 'Bye Bye Love' , later ' Wake Up Little Susie' , 'All I Have To Do Is Dream'..The brothers toured with Buddy Holly in 1957 and 1958. They were the most popular in the late 50s and very early 60s..Later there were a lot of problems, drugs, both of them  addicted,  they couldn't stand each other. David Cassidy told how once, at the beginning of

The Partridge Family Season 4

Image
Season 4 , aired from September 15, 1973 to March 23, 1974 (btw that day DC on his World Tour arrived in Osaka )..The last and the least popular TPF's season, but I like it very much. There are some reasons.. 1. The music. Most songs from that season appeared on the last TPF album, 'Bulletin Board', (recording dates July 25, 26 and September 4, 5); the abum was released October 1973, the same time as DC's third solo album 'Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes'. It was very symbolic, 'Bulletin Board' wasn't selling well, "Dreams' very well, but not in America. David Cassidy's career in his native country was over, he played his last concert there in October 1972. 'Bulletin Board' is   not The Partridge  Family kind of music, lyrics..very adult, it's more like David Cassidy's solo album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AL8oxCCi-M 2. Season 4 is very strange, with one very unusual and memorable episode which was filmed o

David Cassidy In Las Vegas

I've been listening to DC's radio interviews for a while, the 70s, 80s, 90s.with each decade more recordings and better quality, and suddenly such  a disappointment - not a single interview from 1996 , 1997 also 1999, and I was hoping for some extra stories about EFX.. There is an interview from April 1998, WKQ in Detroit, the host - Danny Bonaduce. He asked DC - 'Why do you look 10 years younger than I?'. And also why David recorded a new album ('Old Trick, New Dog) at all, him being so busy, earning a lot of money (Danny said that DC got $ 65 000 a week) and having a wife and a son..? It's a great interview and you MUST listen to it from the minute 12, DC was amazing.. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/Radio1998April_WKQI_Detroit_WithDannyB.mp3 The next interview is from 2000 when David was starring At The Copa, but it was short one, he answered some questions from fans, and was asked about a possible tour in the UK. And that's all, only 2 ex

Blood Brothers and Petula Clark

Image
Maybe because the weather has changed..and I can feel that this is the end of summer,  I've been very moved while listening to DC radio interviews from 1994 and 1995 . David Cassidy talking about Blood Brothers, his career and his fans.. The first interview is from October 17, 1994 (WSNY 94.7 FM  Columbus, Ohio), DC in the evening was to perform in Blood Brothers that day ( an opening night in Columbus)..The broadcast was live, rather early in the morning, DC was tired, after 7 weeks of touring. This is just a raw recording  of that programme, with adverts, nothing was edited etc..so I've felt like listening to a live broadcast not to the old recording of sth what happened  27 years ago..From the 12th minute DC started talking with listeners..and this is really incredible and so moving, that bond he had with  fans.. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/Radio1994October17.mp3 At the first part of that interview he told about the history of 'Blood Brothers', a

Walking In The Rain / Barry Mann, Phil Spector, Cynthia Weil

Image
The original was recorded by a girl group, the Ronettes, it was number 23 on Billboard HOT 100 in 1964 (Phil Spector produced that record), and sure David knew that song from his school years..Simple but such  charming lyrics, about finding  a true love, a love at first sight ..some day.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4l5t1FUscUI On Wikipedia we can read about other versions of that song, but not a word about great David Cassidy's cover. I know it was The Partridge Family's hit, but it was David's singing which made that song so special. And his performance..wow..he was a true  teenage dream..to be on the set, who wouldn't want to, such a bad timing for me, I'm only a few months older than Jodie Foster..Seriously, this is a great cover. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtmgENKr3x4&t=52s I know that  anyone is allowed to edit Wikipedia, and I think this is something fans should do, whatever we think of Wiki, it's an important and very often a first and last

'We Still Cherish Him Decades Later'

Image
Oh yes, we will cherish DC to the rest of our days..One fan's said that on Louise Poynton's podcast. Those fans' stories are so moving.. And today, is the first anniversary of The David Cassidy Connections. Happy Birthday! So let's first listen to Cherish..I must confess that I haven't been   impressed by that song for many years . Without any reason, we all have our fav songs. Of course I know how important this song is for fans.. and   I really love the way DC performed it in 1974 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCt9WMts1A8 I think that everything is important, every little thing fans do for David Cassidy, his legacy and his memory. We should think about the future, time goes like crazy, we are not younger, there are not new fans, and I know that there are quite a lot of former fans who have  forgotten  David, don't listen to his music any longer, and they have got rid off those old posters, magazines, even albums..And on the other hand for some fans DC becam

"Back In The Spotlight Where He Belongs..'

Image
This is something what one journalist said about David Cassidy.  On October 1st, 1990, on Radio 95.5P LJ in NYC..David was a special guest there, and he was so happy that people loved his new music and that he was again in his native city.  He told about his roots, New Jersey .The songs from his new album were played and the listeners could call and asked him questions. And they all said the same thing - 'David, so wonderful that you are back..How we have been waiting for you..' "How we missed you', 'Just great to hear you again..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EanbjJB8B5E&list=PL8qnO3RA8w7qG81ulwdGIN6xMjtVig3PO&index=2 One woman said that she had all TPF's albums and that in the 70s she'd pretended that DC'd been singing just for her. And David said : 'You know, I was singing  for you in fact'. He was very moved and happy, joked with fans, another woman asked him : 'Are you married?' 'No.." "Have you got any

David Cassidy On The Radio.. or Are You Learning A Lot About David You Perhaps Never Knew?

Image
A very long title, but recently I've been asked such a question. "Are you learning a lot about David Cassidy while writing your blog ? Something new?' And I remembered that question while listening to David's radio interviews. The answer is yes..and no. First of all..I've never realized that being a star is so boring. Like..being a teacher. I was a teacher in the 90s so I know. And I only taught four classes, but the same in each one, and my pupils were very bored like me...very smart 15 year old boys. I had enough after 1 week, but I had to work, and it became such a stress that I started having serious health problems because of it and later had ...gall bladder operation..Sounds familliar ? And I was a teacher only for 5 months. 5 months of stress and boredom.. Even writing about my school career is stressful so let's listen to some music first. I don't think I've written about this beautiful TPF's song so far.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utV

David Cassidy On The Radio..the 70s

Image
I'm a great fan of David Cassidy's radio interviews. He had such an amazing voice, it's  a great pleasure just to listen to him, concentrate on the things he said not his looks.. During his career he gave about 200 radio interviews we know about, but I think there were  more.. He was interviewed by many legendary radio personalities. In the 70's by David Hamilton, Brian Matthew, Jack de Manio, Michael Wave, Tony Blackburn, Peter Powell and Tony Prince.  But we don't have a whole list  from the 70's, only a few audio  recordings  and 2 or 3 of them are of good sound quality .Not a single interview from 1971, can you believe it ?? The first one DC's radio appearance is from February 19th 1972,  Radio KOV, Pittsburg, PA.  It was an interview promoting his first American's concert that year. His previous concert was on December 5th, 1971, so everybody was very excited,  a huge crowd of screaming fans gathered outside the building. and DC several times called

Happy Birthday Dante.. Daniel Bonaduce

Image
He was born Dante Daniel Bonaduce on 13th August 1959 in Broomall, Pennsylvania..Before The Partridge Family, appeared on 7 tv shows, the first one was in 1967. Both his parents were in showbusiness (writers). After TPF he was on (among other credits)..Police Story (1975), Fantasy Island (1978), That '70's Show (1998-2001, 2 episodes), Less Than Perfect (with David Cassidy, 2005), CSI (2006), and of course with Mark Hamill in the film called 'Corvette Summer' (1978), it was first Mark's appearance after the unexpected success of Star Wars.  A box office hit, even that critics didn't like it. This is the opening scene with..Danny. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCjCas1L6xM Danny on TPF..he was a true comedy talent, one of the best ever child actors, so natural and funny and with a such distinctive, great voice. It's not a surprise that later in life he made a career in radio. He was so good that many TPF's episodes were written with him in mind..And with

I Think I Love You Part 2

Image
I wonder what would have  happened if someone else had sung that song in 1970, not David..He wrote in his autobiography : "Among the few songs we recorded at the very first session was ITILY. When they played that back in the studio, it was the first time I'd ever heard a vocal of mine on tape..(..) Playing the harpischord for us on ITILY was Larry Knechtel, who had played piano on Bridge Over Troubled Water (..) I remember him breaking up laughing during the harpsichord solo when we recorded ITILY. I have no idea what was so funny, but they managed to filter or edit it somehow (David Cassidy : Could It Be Forever?, 2007) Billboard HOT 100 on November21st 1970 - 1. The Partridge Family - I Think I Love You ( last week - 4,  weeks on chart - 7) , 2. Carpenters - We've Only Just Begun, 3. Jackson 5 - I'll Be There...11.Joe Cocker - Cry Me a River...14. Free - All Right Now...23. The Kinks - Lola...25. Christie - 'Yellow River..40. Santana - Black Magic Woman...54. B

Summer of 1970 I Think I Love You, Part 1

Image
I Think I Love You..recorded in May, released in August, and number 1 in November, on 21st, 1970. 6 months during which David Cassidy's life changed completely. In May he was one of many young actors in Hollywood, but already on teen mags' radar. David's pic was on the cover of 'Fave' in May. His picture was the smallest, the largest Bobby Sherman's. June 1970 -  first Tiger Beat cover. August - 2 covers on Flip, and Tiger Beat again. The rollercaster was starting to accelerate.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NncG_pm338 The first articles about the upcoming new TV series appeared at the beginning of August (at least those  I know about), and they were mostly about Shirley, with just a few words about David, being her stepson etc..But people started sending letters, forget Shirley, they wanted to read about David. And they wanted to know everything. In September the articles changed - they were about David, with just a few words..that Shirey was his stepmum..

The 80's ..Basia..Tim and Keith

Image
Basia Trzetrzelewska (even for me her last name is not easy to pronounce), a fantastic singer,  started her career in Poland, in the 70s, but I first heard about her when she had a hit with Matt Bianco in 1984. At the time I thought what a happy song it was, obviously I didn't listen to lyrics.. This is  such a nice song and...it makes me want to dance.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDzagmJbwtY Our censors didn't know what to say about her success, a singer who stayed behind the Iron Curtain, but when she had a great hit in America with 'Time and Tide', she became very known here too. btw..so many artists who worked with David Cassidy made later quite a big career, that means that he worked with the best,  talented people, and maybe they learnt something from him too..Here is Basia and my her's favourite  song,  she is a co-writer, arranger and producer  of  that really outstanding track. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVENRBxz6Wo&list=PL9UqsvoM4SbatW1i1qS6

I'll Have To Go Away / Renee Armand, Kerry Chater

So many David Cassidy's songs are so..sad. This one is...always painful to listen. Recorded for the first time by a Canadian band, Skylark. By David in 1976 for his third RCA album, 'Gettin' It In The Street'. Renee Armand who wrote lyrics for that song, told 'Goldmine Magazine' in 2018 : ' I cried for him because I could hear his age, his time. He wasn't a kid anymore. He was a man, and I could hear his live, unfixed vocal. He was singing from his heart. Like any really good singer, he was telling the truth, his truth. It hurts to hear it, and still I'm so completely, overhelmingly proud of this beautiful man's record of my first song.' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ko4_FtqsMQ A song about depression. I've wanted to write that post many times, but each time I've been thinking to myself - 'better not'. Because too personal and too ..sad. So you don't have to read it, but I feel time comes to write about it.  We want to

'We Only Ask The Questions..'

Image
I've once roughly counted David Cassidy's tv appearances as a guest star. More than 600. The first video we have is from May 1970, The Dating Game.Very young DC (pretending to be so shy with girls)  and three really glamorous ladies..The last interview is from March 2017. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/2017Nov22ExtraTV.html And sometimes on YT appears a new video no one has ever seen before, or an old one but of a better quality. Yes, it's a problem, a lot of them are not good and I think there are some programs we can use to improve quality of those old videos. Anyway, this one has appeared this year, and I've had a pleasure of taking screen shots of it. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1985Oct23_GoodMorningAmerica.html During those years David Cassidy was interviewed by many very known journalists and tv personalities - Michael Barratt, Michael Aspel, Russel Harty, Geraldo Rivera, Dinah Shore, Merv Griffin, Gloria Hunniford, Johnatan R

The World of The Partridge Family

Image
Such an album was released in 1974, but this post is not about music. It's about how the world has changed ( or maybe not ) during those 50 years. But let's start with a song..The Partridge Family singing in their garage.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miD6zZwRPVs This is amazing, how the 70's fashion is in vogue again. They could have gone dressed like that into the street and David..he would have looked sensational.. I'm spending this summer with The Partridge Family, taking screen shots for the DC website. It's a very pleasant job and while doing it I'm thinking about the differences between the 70's and the world we live now. (I'm not thinking about Covid) Of course The Partridge Family was a family sitcom, a comedy, it wasn't realistic, had not a lot in common with real life. Keith never returned home late, drunk..or Danny never was caught with a cigarette..they never quarrelled with Shirley, no slamming of the door, no tears or real pain..b

The Partridge Family Sound Magazine Part 3

Image
'Rainmaker'. There is sth really unusual about that song. Written by very prolific trio, Wes Farrell, Jim Cretecos and Mike Appel, at first glance (hearing) is just another song about a girl who doesn't want to stay with Keith (really those girls were strange), but when you listen to it carefully, it's not just pop, but also rock, and I can swear that I can hear a trace of...'Hush' in it.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGwvvqrRal4 There are some reviews of Sound Magazine on Amazon, written by fans, this is a fragment of my favourite one, (USA, Sep30, 2016) : " - 'Seriously Dad? WTH, The Partridge Family?' asked my 18 year old son when he saw DC on my desk. I said yes, The Partridge Family. Then I popped in  the CD player, turned it play up, told him just to shut up and listen..(..) He was shocked. He couldn't believe the quality of those songs and he told me he didn't know that this music was so good. He learned a secret I've known fo

Echo Valley 2-6809..a boy tries to reach his long lost love and gets an out of service message. So many David's songs were so sad, even if he was smiling singing them. The lyrics of that song written by Rupert Holmes and Kathy Cooper are really beautiful..All of us know such telephone numbers which once were so important ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVmrt8E3WE8 In the 21st century when he performed that song sometimes DC asked fans for a cell phone. From Carol's review, June9,2007, House of Blues, Atlantic City, NJ, davidcassidy.com : 'During Echo Valley, David took the phone from Donna, who was absolutely jumping up and down in her seat.with excitement. After the song he pretended to be talking to Donna's mom, and as he handed the phone back to her he said : 'Tell mom sorry'. Janie had to litteraly PUSH Donna to take the phone back, because Donna was frozen there, just staring at David not moving!' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOBJ1av9pVk Yes, the

The Partridge Family Sound Magazine Part 1

I'm on a mission, I love this album, it was released 50 years ago and I'm going to write everything I know about it.   The best Partridge Family album,  their 'Sgt Pepper'. This album has no weak points. This is one of the best pop albums from the 70s. Amazing recordings, the music still so exciting and fresh, and David Cassidy voice..he could sing, outstanding performance. And it was the first album where his vocal's was recorded at regular speed.  Let's start with that masterpiece, the song written by David Cassidy with Wes Farrell's help. Love Is All That I Ever Needed' .The person who made that really fantastic video wrote : 'David Cassidy could sing the nice and cool pop, but then to hear him on a groove like this song, you have to respect the fact that he could do wonders with any sort of material (in this case soul). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGrdlR1fKr4 The album was released half a century ago, in August 1971. I can't believe i

Love & Light Always..Part 2

Image
So we met on August 25th 2018 , me and 4 English ladies, one couldn't make it. We shared  our story with fans, on David Cassidy website.  B. wrote :"We walked along the steps where David sat; we had our photograph taken by a kind stranger as we headed for the pond ( the same path he had walked down in 1973) and we all hugged a stone urn the David had hugged too..' D :'First - Team Hug! It was amazing to think we actually made it. W. all the way from Poland, and some travelling 2 hours or so across London!! (..) It felt like meeting old friends as we chatted so much on line. The garden centre is quite large but we found our way out and went straight to THE place...the hothouse/orangery with the beautiful pond and fountain - just as it was in the Daydreamer video. It was very paceful and we just stood and took in the view... It was quite emotional remembering a stunningly handsome young guy in a velvet jacket and ripped jeans who had once walked those same paths..Was it
