Summer of 1970 I Think I Love You, Part 1
I Think I Love You..recorded in May, released in August, and number 1 in November, on 21st, 1970. 6 months during which David Cassidy's life changed completely. In May he was one of many young actors in Hollywood, but already on teen mags' radar. David's pic was on the cover of 'Fave' in May. His picture was the smallest, the largest Bobby Sherman's. June 1970 - first Tiger Beat cover. August - 2 covers on Flip, and Tiger Beat again. The rollercaster was starting to accelerate..

The first articles about the upcoming new TV series appeared at the beginning of August (at least those I know about), and they were mostly about Shirley, with just a few words about David, being her stepson etc..But people started sending letters, forget Shirley, they wanted to read about David. And they wanted to know everything. In September the articles changed - they were about David, with just a few words..that Shirey was his stepmum..
Fans started gathering outside studio and his house, writing him letters . David was very busy, everything was so new and exciting, filming and recording, and he had to go back to school. Still there was war in Vietnam, and a lot of young men of call-up age sought to avoid or delay their military service, and there were some legal ways to do that. Among other things, attending college might grand a deferment. David had a very safe draw number ( unlike Sam , who joined the National Guard to avoid going to Vietnam).
Jack insisted that David had to go to college, So after working on the set, he attended Los Angeles City College four nights a week, from 7pm to 10pm, majoring in Psychology..
Another great Sharon's video..

At first I Think I Love You didn't do well at the charts, Some dj didn't want to play it because they knew TPF was a manufactured for -tv- group. But once the first TPF's episode was aired in September..I Think I Love You..' made its first appearnce on the Cash Box pop chart on 26th September and on the Billboard chart 14 days later. It enjoyed a 19-week run (with several weeks in number 1 position) on both publication's charts. It turned out to be the best selling record of 1970, with total sales of over three million units in the U.S. and close to five million worldwide..(David Cassidy : Could It Be Forever?, 2007)..
