Time And Time Again..

Image
'..and this boy's lost track..'. Like all of us I return to that song from..time to time. So important, for David and his fans. A testament of a friendship, wrote by David, Kim and Dave, 49 years ago. No one knew in 1973 that 'Can't Go Home Again' after years would take on such meaning. I love live version from the World Tour, Australia 1974. A young boy singing, happy to share his music with his fans. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4gvxt1WgaA And I've been thinking a lot about the 70s and about time today. 7 months of 2022 gone forever, days are already shorter and there are some unfinished projects we've been working on (with Jane, our webmaster) for such a long time. The Partridge Family's synopses, still 15 episodes left, and we started that project 13 months ago. And some other things waiting to work on  and to be published. And of course The London Music Walk Of Fame. 923 signatures. What can be done more ?? David deserves that Stone, that

He Always Kept Me Forever 15..

Image
This is something I appreciate a lot. That because of David Cassidy and my blog, I 'meet' so many wonderful people. Some of them also in person, like my friend B., whom I visited in  May this year (Wiltshire), or Diane, who showed me 'her' Cambridge. I can also say something about Luton because of Doreen. And there are many more amazing people. We, David's fans are like family, (and we quarrel too). Some fans write comments about my blogs and many times their words are so moving or stick in my head..But the song first, I think it suits today's blog the best https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jYkM03IZnk Seena Rubinstein wrote : 'We grew up with David and for a time grew older with David. We will never experience being old with David. He always kept me forever 15.'.  Yes. So true. She's found such right words for our sorrow and our gratitude for him. I didn't grow up with David, but watching old videos and his pics, listening to his music, I can imag

The Summer of 1978..

Image
Old habits die hard, and since December 2020 I've been writing about David Cassidy..a lot. Nearly every evening, regardless what happens in my life. Sometimes I'm tired, or have daubts if an entry is interesting enough, but I just love writing about him and his music. And while doing it thinking about the past.  So I've read recently an interview Ken Mansfield gave our webmaster, Jane, about his memories from the summer of 1978, when he was working with David Cassidy, producing his fabulous album which was released much later. And I have a lot of memories from the summer of 1978. Maybe it's a reason I love so much those songs recorded by DC 44 years ago  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmREZ3w_hjE Ken Mansfield, the former U.S. manager of Apple Records, a high-ranking executive for several record labels, a songwriter, a Grammy winning album producer. He worked with the greatest, also with DC. He wrote some very popular books, one of them, published in 2007 is called

A Biography. For And Against

Image
A song first. Someone wrote in comment : ' A voice that should have been heard and appreciated so much more.' Absolutely. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kerwrHS-Cqg I've got a lot of feedback after my yesterday's blog called 'Do We Need A David Cassidy's Biography'. Thank you so much for your comments, they are food for thought for me and a valuable lesson. First of all I want to write that this discussion is purely academic. I think I haven't been precise with this word, 'biography'. but I can't think about other one. An encyclopedia ? A lexicon ? What I'd like to read is more a book of the David's achivements together with his biography. The most important things (biography), but nevertheless. An attempt to asses his personality,  his career and his music.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Z-aBmyCX10 So why and for whom? And what ? 1. For fans. Because in spite that we write every day about DC, there are still fans who don't kn

Do We Need A David Cassidy's Biography?

Image
A new one. But first let me tell you how I'm happy that we've achived more than 900 signatures. Our PETITION. And when I write 'our' I mean that this is our common cause, all the David's fans. The London Music Walk Of Fame. Maybe that number doesn't look impressive, but there is so much work behind it, and the fans write wonderful and moving comments. We are doing great. Long Live Cass! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBVrg6dO7TI&t=26s   So do we need a new David Cassidy's biography? We have quite a lot of the old ones. The first were written in the early 70s. James Gregory who knew DC as a teenager wrote 'The David Cassidy Story' in 1973, and Carol Deck wrote her DC's biography even earlier. Of course countless teen mags printed his biography many times with a lot of details. In which hospital he was born, and the name of the doctor, the exact time of the removal of his gall bladder.. everything.  In 1974 DC thought for a while about writing

A Pic Found On Pinterest

The David Cassidy pic. But first a song. As DC said himself: 'a sweet little song..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaUBUdO-lco Before writing a new entry I usually go for a 3 mile walk and think about what I'm going to write about. And it works for me beautifully. But recently I've been very busy and had no time for walking or thinking about DC and my blog. So I don't know how this entry will look like and where it will take me. I only know that I want to write about that David's pic found a few days ago on Pinterest. As you can see it was taken on the set of one of the episodes of The Partridge Family. Season 3, Episode 17, 'I Left My Heart In Cincinnati', first aired January 26, 1973. A pic taken between the takes. DC must have been very happy, because Johnny Lee Bench was a very famous baseball player. He is a true legend, actually just 2 years older than David. And as we know DC was a great baseball fan. But the reason I just love that pic is that

Do You Believe In Magic /John Sebastian

Image
Lovin' Spoonful was very popular in the second part of the 60s, they influenced The Beatles, they had a great pop success, they are in  Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Not my fav band, but DC loved that music. I've read once an article, I think it was from 1972, (I can't find it now),  it was an interview with David Cassidy and he said he wanted to record 'Do You Believe in Magic' himself. After all, he did another John Sebastian's classic, and it's a great version, so uplifting, we can hear that just dreaming about this lucky girl made him happy. And I always smile while listening to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZBBMTrjSig I've thought about 'Do You Believe In Magic' because Bobby Sherman had birthday yesterday, you know -  young girls and the magic of music and teen idols..I love reading old teen mags and watching teen idols of the past, that was something I couldn't do when I was a teen. Teen idols were forbidden in my part of the worl

'His Name Is David'

Image
I haven't planned to write anything today, too hot and I've been busy. But I've been searching for sth on the website and found that gem. David Cassidy at 'Random Play', a sketch comedy series from 1999. Two female record company executives, both of them were in love with DC in 1970s, both old Partridge Family's fans. And at one moment one adresses DC- "Keith'. 'His name is David', says the other one..This is really very funny, what a shame we don't have a better copy. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1999July24RandomPlay.html This is amazing how DC was talented. Not only he got a great voice, not only he was so beautiful..Btw do you know that last year was released a documentary called 'The Most Beautiful Boy In The World"? But it was not about DC, but about a young Swede who was in the Luciano Visconti's film 'Death in Venice'. Visconti proclaimed a 16-year old Bjorn Andresen being the most beautiful..Th

Kim Carnes' words after David Cassidy died. And : 'David had the best laugh, the best smile and the biggest heart' . She has birthday today, this wonderful, beautiful woman. A girl from California, born in 1945, a singer and a songwriter. I first heard about Kim in the 80s when she had an enormous world success with 'Betty Davis Eyes'. It was even a hit in Poland, in 1981 we had strike after strike, we fought with communist regime, and there were only empty shelves in our shops, but I remember the song was played on our radio. It was so different, dark and mysterious, a great tune and that amazing voice. I later saw how she looked ..That wonderful, blond hair, a woman with class. I always wanted to look like that.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPOIS5taqA8 She was really successful and even took part in one of the most famous recordings in the history of pop music. "We Are The World' was recorded in January 1985 and Kim was there too, along some of the mo

My Number 1

Image
No, not my fav the DC's song. It's just not possible, I love 98% of  everything he ever recorded. I can only say what song is my number 1 today. And today is 'Breaking Down Again'. Such a wonderful song, and in 1976 everybody had great expectations..David and the RCA's guys. From David's liner notes (btw we are so lucky that he took time to write them) DC : '..I was sittin' at the keys and working on that idea and Bill (House) strolled up real casual like, as is his style and we just wrote it. Where I got a void - he'd fill right in. The easiest song I ever wrote. Bill was originally going to sing one of the harmonies, but neither of us could cut the high past like Gloria could, bless her soul, and I do mean soul.(..)..it's just easy singin' with your friends - especially if they're cute. Shake it darlin'.' It's so moving, the song and those words young David Cassidy, so full of hope,  wrote for us so many years ago. Gloria..s

A Great Performer At Work

A David Cassidy's concert from 2003 has been added to the website. A video, not great quality, shaking image, at times unrecognizable sound, some noises and sounds of other music and conversations. A highway behind the scene..An outdoor concert, from February 22, 2003. Gulfstream Park (a horseracing track), Hallandale, Fl. Impossible to say how many people was in audience, but it  was an  enthusiastic crowd, some  fans brought the old DC and Partridge Family's albums with them. The security men telling people to push back.. In 2003 DC played 32 concerts, only in the USA, and that particular one was the first that year. David Cassidy, 52, in great shape, a white Tshirt, black pants/trousers (as my English friends say), a wristwatch..that's all. It was a great, rock concert.  He started with 'Hush'. Let's see him performing it in 2007, in London https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzZHc8ZGqWs So I've been watching and maybe because of that raw recording ..it was l

'..My Fans Go For My Music..'

It's just a fragment taken out of context, from the interview published in November 1972, Hit Parader Magazine. DC was asked if he didn't care being compared to eg Jane Fonda. Did he object?. David answered that it was silly, and that he was compared to many people, men and women, and that he had given up caring. 'The whole day is filled with so many silly things and I can't let these little things get to me. If I did, then I'd have gone out of my mind long ago..' Maybe a song, something carefree and happy. The last days were difficult, fighting for The London Music Walk Of Fame Artist Stone Honour for David Cassidy, and an unpleasant exchange of opinions that destroyed the peace in our small world of David's fans.. 'All I Wanna Do Is Touch You'. Written by Irwin Levine  and L. Russell Brown. The B side of the single 'Cherish', released in September 1971. Irvin Levine (he died in 1997) and L.Russel Brown. They wrote together one song I really

But the song first. The fabulous "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams', wrote by David and Sue..I've been listening to it today and dreaming a little bit. To be 40 again and have a good dancing partner. Because this song is soo wonderful ..paso doble. It starts slowly and later that passion and drama..Magic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXTNpuu74IA Maybe I shouldn't write this blog today, but I can't help myself. It started from thinking about our petition. The London Music Walk Of Fame. So hard work, we make videos (Sharron), we write about DC and his music legacy, we have support (Tony Prince, David Hamilton, Anthea Turner, Keith Atack) ..and we have 845 signatures. What can we do more? So I've decided to have a look at The Website's FB page. What David's fans like reading. Which updates are the most popular?  One more great dancing number. A quick - step this time. I love it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJZRRekOYqk And I've had some big surprises. F

'David Cassidy Stopped Traffic..' Record Mirror Part 2

Image
So I'm reading the Record Mirror's articles about David Cassidy and thinking how a huge star he was, and what happened to his fans. Those who followed him everywhere and were ready for great sacrifices to take a look at him..just for a moment. Where are they now? (The PETITION!)  RM, May 20, 1972 : 'David Cassidy stopped traffic to downtown Pittsburgh when he visited radio station KQV recently. Police had to block off the street to accomodate the two thousand fans who braved 10 degree cold and a foot of snow that had fallen the night before. The crowd started gathering in front of the station at 7.30 am for Cassidy's half-hour visit that afternoon'.  Yes, it was in February 1972 and we have that radio show with DC on the website. We can hear screaming fans, David answering questions but also all the time watching the crowd and so often we can hear him asking fans to push back and not hurt each other..It's amazing and scary..He was always afraid that something ba

The David Cassidy Official Website, that amazing online library, the source of info on David Cassidy. Recently our webmaster Jane has told me that on the website we have - 12380 pages, 25775 photos and 1023 audio/video files. Can you imagine..Unbelievable, and there are still a lot to add, and nearly everyday sth new appears. I know the website pretty well, but of course not everything, and there are some sections I know better and some not so much. Eg there are still quite a lot of the DC's radio interviews I've never listened to. But I can say that I've read most of the articles.  But maybe a song first. My younger daughter has told me today that the Elton John's remix of 'Cold Heart' is extremely popular now and she enjoys listening to it. And I've told her about Elton and David's friendship and how many, many years ago they performed together on stage. And about 'I'm Still Standing'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49kTmfgthmE Life is not

I Just Wanna Make You Happy / Wes Farrell, Bobby Hart

Image
'A lonely one man street band..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MumquQrK6mo 'My songs they sound much better when people start to gather..'. Is this song not about David Cassidy? A lot of people noticed that he was that kind of a performer. Ray Fox-Cumming wrote in 1973 about one of his Wembley's concert : "David feeds off audience reaction and the more he got the more he gave. Little by little he seemed to grow towards living up to everything that those girls expected. Taken as a whole it (the concert) was certainly very good." (Disc and Echo Magazine) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep42l7CacCY But let's return to the song. It's David's voice and the way he sings it from the start that makes 'I Just Wanna Make You Happy' so meaningful and such a wonderful song. 'Only wanna make you happy When I sing I'll make you happy.'. So true. He really meant it..all his career. He wanted to make his fans happy and he wanted and nee

Wish You Were Here / Harold Rome

First the original..the one Jack Cassidy taught his small son, David. Recorded in 1952. 70 years ago.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7boNC9Sbv34 65 years later at the end of his life David Cassidy knowing that not much time was left, was struggling to record it. We write quite often that we still miss David, especially on the 21st of each month, it's scary how many passed. But I've thought that, you know, I've come to terms with it, time is a great healer. And I never met him in real life, even never saw him in concert. I'm just a fan.  So David Cassidy is like any other person we knew and liked or loved, and we cherish those memories and we smile thinking about the past, but we don't cry, we are just grateful. Like when I pass by the block of flats in the center of Warsaw where I used to live and was so happy many years ago. I always smile. But sometimes an old song on the radio, a painting or pic, even a stranger who looks like an old, dear, late friend..make us

There'll Come a Time / David Cassidy

Image
The song first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsyUNt6G7-Q Oh yes, we took a good look and we knew he wasn't a circus clown. David was smiling singing this song. Of course Keith smiled a lot on stage, but this time it was David performing, rather than Keith (you know what I mean), and he was soo happy. His own song, without the Wes's name in credits. At least that one time. Time..he was only 22 (that episode was aired in March 1973. He had a whole life ahead of him. He was young, beautiful, rich and famous. We don't think about time when we are young or that one day we will be..old. Science fiction. But that song was recorded more that 48 years ago and today I've been thinking about TIME a lot. Since I've read that yesterday Michael Barratt died. He was 94. A lot of tributes, obituaries.. everywhere. He started his career very early, as a tea boy and horoscope writer on Sunday Mail. Best known as a main presenter on Nationwide from 1969 to 1977. For us, the David C

Some Kind Of A Summer / Dave Ellingson

Image
The songs David Cassidy chose for 'Then And Now' album. Those the most important in his career. What a shame only 'Daydreamer' from "Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes', and from his RCA albums only 'I Write The Songs'. What a shame he didn't record again 'Junked Heart Blues' or..'Rosa's Cantina', that perfect summer song. I can't resist to watch this video.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sp97MhR8ZCU Or maybe it's better that 50 year old David didn't record it again.. Those young, wonderful musicians had a lot of fun recording it in 1976, and we can still hear after so many years how they enjoyed that experience. The perfect moment in their lives for such a song. But I'm so glad that he made a new 'Some Kind Of A Summer' version. Dave Ellingson :'I got the idea for the song, 'Some Kind Of Summer while Kim and I were driving back to Los Angeles from San Francisco in the summer (a wonderful ex

Then And Now..

Image
In 2001 (when that album was released in the UK) and in 2002 (in the USA), 'then' were the songs from those crazy years when DC was a teen idol, and 'now' a few new tracks from the beginning of the new century, 30 years later. The new TPF's hits were recorded for the David Cassidy biopic. And whatever we think of 'David Cassidy Story' it was just wonderful that those great musicians could work again and had a lot of fun. 'Mike Melvoin : 'Working with David was like resuming an old friendship. We started up when we'd left off - two really good friends working together (..) We had the opportunity to call the original band and work in the original studio. From the first tune it was apparent that we hit a home run. Everybody was playing great. It was like everybody put themselves back in time and relieved that moment..' (David Cassidy: Could It Be Forever?, 2007) This is the commercial promoting 'Then And Now'. https://www.youtube.com/w

Unreleased Recordings

Image
What a huge disappointment it must have been for David Cassidy. He wrote such a great, full of passion and desire love song all by himself and ..of course it wasn't a song suitable for Keith Partridge.  No way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4SqracF0eA So Wes changed it. We should remember about those unreleased The Partridge Family's recordings. They show how Screen Gem and Wes Farrell controlled DC, hadn't let him became a musician he could have been. And Wes was aware how David was good at the age of 21. Not only he got the look, not only he had a fabulous, strong voice, but he also wrote songs..all by himself. Music and lyrics. Wonderful songs. It was necessary to show him his place. It must have been so frustrating for DC. Another one, 'Mystical Lady'. I can imagine Wes Farrell thinking, 'O no, not again. Keith Partridge singing about sex!' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvl_ppcLeU4 In 1973 they were not on speaking terms and couldn't stand eac

'..'Sure' comes David's unhesitaiting replay and his famous smile" (RadioMirror, Jan 1972) The Petition first. More than 800 people signed. We want more and we are ready to work for it. And of course we are very happy and grateful, it's really impressive and moving when I think about the fans who still cherish David Cassidy. He deserves that stone. We owe it to him, for the love and light he brought into our lives. For that wonderful music. Maybe a song. One of those very rare I wasn't a fan at first. But it's just fabulous of course, David Cassidy's wonderful voice, and this video is just great, there are some of David's songs mentioned in it. 'Remember Me'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-9oHk0aFjY Remembering David Cassidy.  And of course the petition and the number of signatures made me think about..how many autographs David signed during his lifetime..Millions of them. There are a lot of photos on which David signs autographs, als

How Can I Be Sure / Felix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati

Image
The original was recorded 55 years ago, and David's unforgettable cover 5 years later. Scary. So many years ago, and I remember hearing that song for the very first time like it was only yesterday. Of course I've written about it many times, so why again.  There are 2 reasons. First of all it was exactly 50 years ago when 'How Can I Be Sure' in David Cassidy's interpretation peaked at # 25 in the USA. David had three Top 30 solo hits on the Billboard Hot 100. This song was the second one. And later in 1972 it became the number one hit in the UK and in Ireland.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZwf43WNw9o This is just amazing, I don't know how many times I've listen to it and I'm always under the spell. From the start, that intro, arrangments, David's voice..so powerful and so emotional.  This is a masterpiece, the song itself and the DC's interpretation. When I heard this song for the first time, I didn't know English at all. Nothing. But I k

David Cassidy on 'Good Night America', July 4, 1974

I've been very busy today, but haven't forgotten about -  1. our petition. I've thought that a lot of DC's American fans would sign it, after all Tony Prince said: 'David Cassidy was one of America's great music export, one of the really great voice.', but it looks I was wrong.  2. About the Fourth of July. It's made me..nostalgic, because I remember so well the Independence Day in..1976. It was sooo many years ago. Poland was at the time still a communist country, but after 1975 we had more freedom, even Pepsi - cola appeared in our shops, We could see some footage from the USA on that day. It was so exciting to watch, a different world.. 3. And of course David Cassidy on 'Good Night America', 48 years ago, in conversation with Geraldo Rivera. This is  my favourite DC's interview from the 70s. Really extraordinary, the things he said, the way he talked, and last but not least how he looked. His face, his voice..mesmerizing.. https://www.yout

You Were The First One / Barney Robertson

Image
Another song recorded in 1979. I've been trying to find something about that guy, Barney Robertson. There is a musician and producer called BarnyR. who knows.. But something different first. From the FB. Something I've read today, a post from a group suggested for me. With such message : 'Take time to thank a musician today. Because, let's face it, your life would be a living hell without music in it.'. Of course, I'd have been quite another person without music, unhappy and gloomy. And I've thought about our petition.  So - take time (just a minute ot two) to thank David Cassidy today. Because, let's face it, your life would be.. without his music in it .' Can you imagine your life without the DC's music ? Sign the petition ! https://chng.it/NgppymDR6K But let's return to 'You Were the First One'. One of my top DC's songs to listen to on the beach, preferably a deserted one.. in the evening. There is a magic in that song. And tha

I Never Saw You Coming / David Cassidy, Jay Gruska, Bill Mumy, David Jolliffe

Image
What a fantastic song, I love the version recorded in 1979 and released in Japan in 1991. I know that David Cassidy himself wasn't happy when that CD appeared, of course in the 90s he played quite different music, but I love those recordings. And that version of 'I Never Saw You Coming' is just fabulous. Makes me..want to get up and dance, David's voice even if a little bit hoarse (someone has written it in one of the comments and I agree with it), but it's even more..sensual. I love it. It's just irresistible. It's another bitter-sweet David's song.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zs_RFSjwII A happy music and a serious not so happy lyrics 'I opened my eyes too late to see that you'd gone...' but why we feel they had a great time recording it ? Because they were young, friends and had a lot of fun. In 1976 when DC recorded the first version of 'I Never Saw You Coming', his co-author was only Jay Gruska. But in 1979 he invited 2 othe

Did David Cassidy Play Stadiums?

I'm a little bit frustrated today. And yes, I have to write it down, that's the way I deal with frustration. The fans. The David Cassidy's own.  Yesterday Jane published (on the FB website page) just 2 or 3 very short adverts from 1973 and 1974 about TPF. Nothing new or special. And after 24 hours that post has over 1k likes and a lot of comments and it was shared  50 times (or more).  Wonderful..I'm so happy the fans love what Jane puts on the website (after all I have my own share in it too)..but why the fans don't want to sign the petition (London Music Walk Of Fame). I mean we don't have 1k signatures after ..quite a lot of time. So there are still a lot of David's fans (I'm soo happy) but they are not interested in the petition. Maybe a song.. Something which always improves my mood.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRiYz4oSzMw Don't get me wrong. We are all fellow fans. For all and each of us David Cassidy is still very important. Maybe it lo
