Then And Now..

In 2001 (when that album was released in the UK) and in 2002 (in the USA), 'then' were the songs from those crazy years when DC was a teen idol, and 'now' a few new tracks from the beginning of the new century, 30 years later. The new TPF's hits were recorded for the David Cassidy biopic. And whatever we think of 'David Cassidy Story' it was just wonderful that those great musicians could work again and had a lot of fun.

'Mike Melvoin : 'Working with David was like resuming an old friendship. We started up when we'd left off - two really good friends working together (..) We had the opportunity to call the original band and work in the original studio. From the first tune it was apparent that we hit a home run. Everybody was playing great. It was like everybody put themselves back in time and relieved that moment..' (David Cassidy: Could It Be Forever?, 2007)

This is the commercial promoting 'Then And Now'.

Oh, yes exactly. Especially in the UK. In the USA that album was on the Billboard 200 just for one week, but in the UK peaked at number 5 and achieved Platinum Sale Status.

We have on The David Cassidy Official Website a wonderful, very moving video, from November 16, 2001. DC was a guest on the TV UK morning show, there is an interview, he performed 2 songs, was presented with a Gold Disc for 'Then And Now'. I think those screen shots are mine, but it's not important of course, I just want to stress that I've watched this video ..a few times at least, and each time I'm so impressed and moved. DC was in great shape, his voice magical and even that he was tired, he looked so happy and full of hope..And was deeply moved by the UK fans love for him. That they still cared..

It was a perfect time for that album, and we got it because of..greed. People who owned The Partridge Family recordings wanted too much for those hits to be used in the David's tv movie..So they decided to record those songs again.  Mike Melvoin  : 'the bad news turned out to be good news.'. Very good news indeed.

So many of them are not here anymore. Mike Melvoin died in 2012, Joe Osborn in 2018, Max Bennett in 2018, Hal Blaine in 2019..We will never have another 'Then and Now' .

  1. Dear Weronika, thank you so much for writing this! I am SO happy that when David recorded the Partridge Family songs on "Then & Now," he got to record it with Mike Melvoin, Joe Osborn, Max Bennett, Hal Blaine, etc., in the same recording studio where they recorded the Partridge Family albums! That was so great that they were able to record some of these songs all over again, and that they really enjoyed it! I am SO glad that they got to record it then! It gives me the chills just thinking about it. I really love the video of the commercial promoting "Then & Now." Seeing David's fans kissing his picture, etc., reminds me of the Good Old Days! I thought it was so funny that David's fan passed out when David said "Hi" to her, even after all those years! I wonder what David thought when his fans passed out? I just thought that wherever David appeared, there must have been at least one ambulance, in case someone passed out. Thank you so much again for doing such a great blog for David and us fans! I really enjoy it!
