"It's Sad That We Don't See You..'

Image
Timothy Bruce Schmit had a birthday yesterday. Born in 1947, one of those very talented young and very cool musicians who in the 70s recorded great music in Los Angeles.  They competed with each other, but they also were working and had a great time together. Timothy B. Schmit twice replaced Randy Meisner as a bassist and vocalist, first for Poco, later the Eagles. As a member of the Eagles was inducted into the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame. This is something.. I can't find the right word, but yes, it's sad that so many of David Cassidy's friends from the 70s, also Timothy B. Schmit, have achieved recognition, got the most prestigious and significant awards in the music industry, and David, who was not inferior to them in any way..you know. That's really unjust. In 1979 DC recorded a song written by Timothy for Poco. This is one of my favourite DC's song. His voice is so mesmerising, seductive, there is something so adictive about that song, I've been singing  mys

Do You Believe In Magic /John Sebastian

Lovin' Spoonful was very popular in the second part of the 60s, when David Cassidy was a teen. John Sebastian and his band influenced The Beatles, they are in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.. btw Jann Wenner was removed from the board of Rock&Roll Hall of Fame Foundation in September 2023, and that fact made a lot of people very happy. I was never a fan of Lovin' Spoonful, that was not my music. I also remember that 'Summer In the City' was very often played on our radio and it used to irritate me.. Of course Lovin' Spoonful was very important for the DC generation, in the USA mostly, and I once read an interview with David, from 1972, how he wanted to record 'Do You Believe In Magic' himself. After all, in 1973, he chose another John Sebastian's hit, 'Daydream', and it was Shaun Cassidy who recorded 'Do You Believe In Magic' first, for his second, platinum album, 'Born Late'. It was released on October 1st, 1977.  DC told many ti

'Four Weddings and a Funeral' will be today evening on our TV. I'm not going to watch it, once is enough, and like millions all over the world, I saw it in 1994. At the time I worked as a teacher and my high school class wanted to see it, and I remember we talked about it later. Mostly about differences between Poland and the UK. My country was still very poor. About that deaf brother..We also talked about sex a little bit.  But we didn't discuss that scene, no one of my students ever heard about David Cassidy, Partridge Family or 'I Think I Love You'. They were 18 years old..The 70s were prehistory for them.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ogl0mA_15ys 152k views. Only that scene..Not bad. A low budget film, made in 6 weeks, became unexpected success everywhere, earned mountains of money and made Hugh Grant an international star. The script was written by Richard Curtis (born in 1956), whose partner (wife since 2002), Emma Freud (Sigmund is her great-grandfathe

Daydream. Jazz Version

Today everybody congratulate David's son, Beau, on his engagement to his longtime girlfriend, Stephanie. Somehow my interest in DC doesn't concern private life of members of his family. Of course I wish him the best, we know how David loved Beau, and I can also imagine that it wasn't easy to be DC's only son. For many, many reasons. It's great that Beau has found his own way and he looks so happy. Anyway when I've read about his engagement I thought about this song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDqcUjt_QhI I've been searching for something on YT today and came across the video called 'David Cassidy Daydream Jazz Version', and on that channel we can also find David's songs without music, only his vocals.  We don't have new songs so we do what we can with the old ones. John Gomolka has altered the original tracks of some The Partridge Family's songs to better reflect David's true voice, and I think the results he's got are very i

The Last Kiss or David In Pink

How many times I can write about 'Romance' album and The Last Kiss? Many.. and I never have enough.  Also because Polish singer Basia did backing vocals on 'Romance' song. Basia started her career in Poland in the late 70s, and in 1984 she had quite a success in the UK, with Matt Bianco. And later even in the USA. Anyway she was asked by Alan Tarney to work for David. I've read an interview with her from 1985, and I know that they didn't meet (what a shame), but she said that David Cassidy phoned her and thanked for her contribution. And that he was very nice and charming. We can imagine.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrufiCSI3Cg In 1985 DC was working very hard promoting himself and his new music. He looked sensational, slimmer and full of energy, he had  new blond haircut, and was very sexy. The album was very good but of course the way he looked was also very important. There was an interview in a bath and a racy photo session with a known topless model fr

First one of the most beautiful tribute video I've ever seen. Really outstanding, with an idea and done in such good taste, no enhanced colorized photos or exploding and flying stars. We can imagine a fan, sitting at the table, looking at photos, thinking about the past..Missing David Cassidy and listening to his timeless music and wonderful voice.  Thank you so much Anna Maria Ottengren for doing this video. I've seen it many times and never have enough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nh8VR5WuYy0 Lately I've been trying to make some order in my DC's collection. So many times when I see something interesting I just take a screen shot to read it later, I'm sure many fans do the same. Later transfer those pics to my laptop and once in a while I look through them and try to sort important ones somehow. And the most important are of course original articles and personal memories. Fans post sometimes old articles, very often without any credits, so I have to guess the y

I'll Be Your Umbrella Man..

I want today to write once more about what fans know and don't know about DC, but first a song which I've played quite a lot recently. From 'Up To Date' album, released in February 1971. This album was a smash really. Peaked at #3 in April and was on Billboard chart for 53 weeks! Amazing. 2 songs became Top 10 hits in the USA. 'Doesn't Somebody Want To Be Wanted' and 'I'll Meet You Halfway'.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QciAxLaYFs Wonderful album. Just 31 minutes, 11 songs, all TPF's classics and I love all of them. Also 'Umbrella Man', maybe it was slightly dated, more from the 60s, but those guys, Jim Cretecos and Mike Appel, with a litlle help from one and only Wes Farrell, they knew how to write a hit. It's such a wonderful song, that rhythm, Hal Blaine's drums, it's so irresistible, makes you want to get up and dance. And David Cassidy's voice. Passion and longing. And sex. It's not a song for little girl

'Didn't We Have Ourselves Some Kind of a Summer..'

Image
Yes, we did. And he knew how we loved him. We thought there was still so much time. For us to enjoy his concerts, new songs, interviews, new pics, his letters to us..For him to celebrate his long career and got the recognition he deserved like few others, as an artist, not a teen idol. And maybe had a happy private life.. I've thought about this song today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IasELb7iHo Another 21st. Time doesn't stand still. Only in those horrible moments when we get really bad news. But that's the way it is and today I've spent a happy hour browsing the DC Official Website. So many interviews with only screenshots, not the actual videos. Like this pic. AM Los Angeles (whatever it is), May 1981. Why screenshots, there are 10 of them, but not the video? I have no idea. Let's watch and listen to David on John Davidson Show, June 16, 1981. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1981JohnDavidsonShow.html Amazing..the way he looked and his voice.

Looking Like Young Clint..

Image
First let's listen to the song I've rediscovered recently. I really don't know why I've thought it was rather boring and not very original. Of course at the time there were a lot of similar rock ballads and I wasn't a fan of such in the early 90s, but a few days ago this song literally stopped me in my tracks. Written by David Cassidy, Sue Shifrin and John Wetton. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbraLQXP03I This album has such great sound, many outstanding musicians played for DC, but I think it could have been better. 'All Because Of You' doesn't fit at all in my opinion, and what worse Cher had a hit with it, in 1989. Instead 'Crazy Over You' should have been recorded. There was another unlucky choice because the single 'Lyin' To Myself' had on a b side a non-album track, a song written by David and Sue, 'I'll Believe You Again'. 'Prisoner' would have been great as a song on a flip side. But let's get back to

Tell Me It's Not True / William Russell

Image
But first 'Sooner or Later'. This song is like written for David Cassidy. He seduces us so easily with his voice..We don't have the video from this live performance, just one pic, but we can very easily imagine David on stage (it was in 1996), singing..'There's nowhere to hide..' https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/DiscographyPages/Sondheim%20A%20Celebration-Sooner%20Or%20Later.mp3 Amazing. A great song of course, Stephen Sondheim got an Academy Award  for 'Sooner or Later' in 1991, and Madonna sang it during the ceremony. A kind of jazz ballad which could have been written and performed in a night club in the 30s. DC was very comfortable with that style and sang those songs from Great American Songbook with such ease and sensitivity.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiIrTJOLquU&t=17s knows I think it's very important to write about David Cassidy's music. From all decades of his career. We have recently lost our weekly David Cassidy Show on

Roller Coaster / Mark James

Image
I've learnt about Mark James only because of David Cassidy. Mark James was born in 1940, a very talented songwriter, also a singer, musician and a recording artist himself.  In 1973 Mark James released self-titled album, on Bell, with his own songs, among them there were 'Roller Coaster' and 'Where Do We Go From Here'. I've listened to his album once..He was much better songwriter than a singer. A very talented songwriter. He wrote songs for Brenda Lee, Elvis Presley, and his childhood friend, B.J. Thomas, to name a few. And what songs - 'Hooked on a Feeling'.  'Suspicious Minds' or 'Always On My Mind', and many more. The latter song became a worldwide hit three times -  for Elvis, Willie Nelson and Pet Shop Boys. Mark James is regarded by Broadcast Music, Inc. as one of the most important songwriters of the 20th century. And to think that I've never heard about him before.. Three of his songs were recorded by The Partridge Family, an

Darlin' /Brian Wilson, Mike Love

Image
No, I haven't found that video. It must be somewhere because there are screen shots, and also a small fragment exists.  Maybe it was 'Darlin'', maybe not. Flo (Mark Volman) is on one of the pics. But that's all I know. What year it could be? DC looks so young. He had such hair in summer of 1974, in July when he was on 'Good Night America', and later in 1977 when the 'Police Story' production started. There are only 4 programs on the list of David's  tv guest appearances in 1977 (on the website). I'm certain there were more. We have quite a lot of articles from 1977 about his return to acting, and marriage with Kay Lenz, sure he was invited to many TV programs. But that's what we get now, and let's hope one day that video will appear on You Tube. Miracles happen, like it was in the case of  David's performance on Estelar de Sabado, from March 1973. I have thought this recording was lost forever and still feel so excited and gratefu

David Cassidy (Musician)

Image
I got it on Google alerts a few days ago. A post or an entry of a blog, or from a page, anyway it was called 'A Comprehensive Compilation Of Corvettes With Celebrity Owners'.  There were so many pics, on each a Corvette and an its owner, a caption under each photo, e.g 'Paul Newman (Actor), and I started wondering what I was going to find under the DC pic..'Teen Idol', 'Pop Icon' or maybe 'Keith Partridge' (joking).  David Cassidy once said, "It seemed that whenever I'd read my name, it would be David 'former idol sex symbol' Cassidy. I used to that. Well, I guess I'm going to have to do something more significant in my life, like David 'convicted felon' Cassidy, or something. (February 1995). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOL5P8t7e5w There were the 1st generation Corvettes (and their owners), the 2nd..at last the 3rd. And David and that fabulous car he could use while on the show. And such a nice surprise. 'David C

David Cassidy in Scotland.

Image
Shawfield Stadium was not in Glasgow in 1974, but in Rutherglen, at the time it was still an independent town, the next year, in 1975, lost its own council. But of course it's so close to the centre of Glasgow, that even at the time was regarded as a suburb of the city.  Shawfield Stadium is closed now, it was opened in 1898 (can you believe it, amazing) as a football ground, but it was famous as a grayhound racing venue, the most important in Scotland. DC played there on May 24, 1974. We only know the hour of that concert (8p.m.), that it was Friday, we have a setlist, but no audio, I'm sure it must be somewhere, I can't believe nobody have thought about recording it.. Let's watch this great video and listen to C.C Rider. I love it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RyxOgMRJzU Why writing about this great concert now? Because when I was in London on September 21st, I met two wonderful ladies. DC's fans of course, It's happened that the three of us came an hour e

Sing Me / Tony Romeo

Image
The song first and a very nice video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpi27BrpuFY&t=4s I thought about 'Sing Me' yesterday, when I read that fans, in very short time, had donated the amount required to place a historical marker at Colgate Field, in West Orange, New Jersey, in honor of David Cassidy's memory. Just wonderful idea, and big thanks and congratulations for every person involved in it. Barb Schlamp Collentine, Karen Ranieri, Gina Gelardo, Erin Sullivan, Margie Jackson and Anette Trotta Flynn and Eilene Shimi and Robyn Smith and other wonderful our DC sisters.  There were discussions in the past if David would have wanted himself those plaques, benches, stars..Somehow I'm 100 % sure that if he had known about this tribute, in this place, in a town he lived as a young boy, he would have been very happy. 'Oh, my days come back to me..back to me..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_XDYPfJAmc So I listened to 'Sing Me' yesterday, and of course t
