Darlin' /Brian Wilson, Mike Love

No, I haven't found that video. It must be somewhere because there are screen shots, and also a small fragment exists.

Maybe it was 'Darlin'', maybe not. Flo (Mark Volman) is on one of the pics. But that's all I know. What year it could be? DC looks so young. He had such hair in summer of 1974, in July when he was on 'Good Night America', and later in 1977 when the 'Police Story' production started.

There are only 4 programs on the list of David's  tv guest appearances in 1977 (on the website). I'm certain there were more. We have quite a lot of articles from 1977 about his return to acting, and marriage with Kay Lenz, sure he was invited to many TV programs. But that's what we get now, and let's hope one day that video will appear on You Tube. Miracles happen, like it was in the case of  David's performance on Estelar de Sabado, from March 1973. I have thought this recording was lost forever and still feel so excited and grateful any time I watch it.

'Darlin', written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love was recorded and released by Beach Boys in 1967. Quite a hit in the USA (#19) and in the UK (#11). When DC was still at high school.. Let's listen to the original, it's such a wonderful, vibrant, happy song, great arrangements, Carl Wilson's vocal and last but not least Hal Blaine on drums.

David's version was great too, just to get up, dance and..be happy. His cover in 1975 was #16 in the UK, #20 in Ireland and #1 hit in South Africa.

We often write about DC connection with John Lennon and The Beatles, but the Beach Boys' connection is maybe even more important. The soundtrack of his teenage years. In the 70s  Bruce Johnston produced his albums. Carl Wilson sang on them. Ricky Fataar too, David co-wrote songs with them, also with Brian Wilson. 'Then I'll Be Someone' was written by Carl Wilson and Tandyn Almer. In 1992 DC played support for Beach Boys, 13 concerts in August and September. And many times they invited him to stay and played with them. We can  read in one review :

"..what brought me out again for their concert was the opening act of David Cassidy. It was clear to me that Cassidy's performance along with his stage presence equaled the Beach Boys' ('Cassidy's Voice Earns Respect from Colleagues'. September14, 1992)

David Cassidy performed 'Darlin'' during his UK tour in 1985. It's really something extraordinary, his voice, and it was not an easy song to sing live ; his energy, stage presence, charisma, his joy...He was a wonderful live performer.
