David Cassidy On Strictly Come Dancing.

Image
I can't find now, but I remember reading in one interview how DC said that showing up was a big part of this business. Show business. He always knew that, how important it was. Industry events, TV appearances. And in the 60s he could watch quite often his father, Jack, on popular show game, 'Password'. I've watched one episode too, from November 1966.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YB0R3mzgvU&t=3s David Cassidy took part in many shows, game and others, also as a contestant. The first ever video with DC on the website is Dating Game (June 19, 1970). In November 1977 he took part in 'Celebrity Challenge of the Sexes', and as we all know he was beaten by Susan Saint James in a swimming event. He lost, but we have outstanding pics, David comforted by his wife, Kay Lenz. In 1982 there was another challenging show, called 'The Grand Prix All Star Show'. In 1988 DC appeared on extremely popular at the tme, 'Win, Lose or Draw'. Maybe he was invite

David Cassidy. 1976. Again

Image
We are very fortunate and lucky, having those wonderful videos from 1976. David Cassidy on European (and one Canadian) TV shows  singing some songs he never performed in later years. As he completely removed them from his memory. They belonged to the past he wanted to forget about.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vsuhi6UnX-k I've written about the year 1976 many times. It was David Cassidy's 'annus horribilis', right from the start. On January 17, 1976, Barry Manilow's cover of  'I Write the Songs' became number 1 hit on Billboard Hot 100, later got Grammy Award for Song Of the Year. Sal Mineo was killed on February 12. That was a huge blow for David. He still was trying, he recorded his last album for RCA, and tried in vain to promote his music, in the USA and in Europe. David, " I blotted out reality by immersing myself deeper in drugs, alcohol and music." He looked gorgeous of course, but sometimes also like someone on the way down. https://www

David Cassidy In ..German

Image
On this day, January 27, in 1993, the very special episode of German-Austrian TV series, 'Ein Schlo ß am W ö rthersee' (A Castle at Lake Worther) was first aired. It was special because David Cassidy guest starred on it. It was aired on RTL, and actually I could have watched it if I had known, because at the time we had a satelite TV and there were a lot of German programs available for us, but I only watched sports events on them. On German TV all foreign films were dubbed and without subtitles. The same was at cinemas. I know, I was in Germany in 1985, and my dear friend Sabine took me twice to cinema, and it was surreal experience. Especially watching James Stewart speaking German in 'The Spirit of St. Louis'. The German actor who voiced Stewart had almost the same voice.. Amazing. Anyway 'Ein Schlo ß am W ö rthersee' was for German speaking countries, and it was very popular series in the early 90s. David guest starring was something special, just a few Amer

"It's Love That Counts"

First the song about love. This is the entry number 746 (lol), but I've never written about  'Come On Love'. Probably I haven't liked it much, but last year while in Cardiff I bought myself 'Crossword Puzzle', and I listen to this album quite often.  I haven't changed my mind about 'Let Your Love Go' (it's awful), but I really enjoy listening to 'Come On Love'. Charming and uplifting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHeOVy8tc7g I've been searching today for some articles about David in Australia and New Zealand in 1974, and while browsing magazines on the website, I've found  an article called 'It's Love That Counts', Record & Radio Mirror, March 23, 1974, btw a copy costed 7p. The scan of this particular article is not very good, but it's worth reading. The result of The David Cassidy Superfan Contest.  It was a series, started with David Cassidy Contest, later was Slade Superfan Contest, next Gary Glitter, D

I suscribe Brad Kyle's 'Front Row And Backstage'. Wonderful articles about music, not only from the 70s, about inspirations and connections, those articles are not for everybody, there is very detailed info, for me it's a fascinating read and I learn a lot. And Brad Kyle also writes about David Cassidy. Quite often. He interviewed him being just 20 years old, in 1975.  In the article called Ned Doheny 'Get It Up For Love' + Covers' we can read about DC's version of that song, "Propelled by acoustic guitar and percussion, David uses his distinctive voice to lift his cover above many others". Very nice and so true. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OYoOPW4fn4 Brad Kyle also has written a lot about Clive Davis and how Arista's boss decided that Barry Manilow would be "a new star for America" and how after, "hearing Cassidy's version ('I Write The Songs') had Manilow record it."  Brad Kyle, "It's worth

From 'Soft As A Summer Shower', written by that mysterious Adam Miller.  I've been searching for the right title for today's entry in vain,  and at last I've got it. The lyrics of that song like written for us, David Cassidy and his fans. It still hurts.. My very close English friend is a great fan of 'Journey', and a few days ago she celebrated Steve Perry's 75th birthday. Posting links to his songs and pics, writing how great he still looks with silver hair, so full of energy and still touring. And we..We have great memories. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nh8VR5WuYy0&list=RDnh8VR5WuYy0&start_radio=1 And work to do to keep his legacy alive. The Music Walk Of Fame in London. Sharron Liddle has got another email with words of support, this time from Anthea Turner, we can always count on her. For those not from the UK, she is a very known TV presenter, celebrity, and David Cassidy's fan. She took part in the famous BBC doc, 'David Cassidy

Maybe our David Cassidy Great Britain Legacy Group is not the biggest or the most influential of those dedicated to DC, maybe you don't find there the things fans love to talk about, David's love life for example, this group has strict rules and RESPECT is the key word. But we are a group of friends, who care for each other, and Love&Light means a lot to us.  And last but not least we have Sharron Liddle. She invited me to the group when I was an unknown DC fan from Eastern Europe and at the time I didn't started writing my blog, we briefly met on November 21, 2018 in London, at St Giles-in-the-Fields church, and since then we've met a few times in person, we have written a great short story together, and we worked together on some projects. And Sharron is a woman of her words, if I can put it this way. If she sets her mind to something she will definitely do it. In October 2021 I interviewed her for my blog. https://talkingaboutdavid.blogspot.com/2021/10/david-cass

Oh yes, I feel like that today, or let me use another fragment from a DC's song, 'You caught me by surprise', so let's start with 'Morning Rider On The Road' written by great Tony Romeo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJy_oW2QSlA&t=20s David Cassidy interviewed by Michael Aspel in May 1974. Just don't know where to start. 1.In the 70s DC was interviewed by the most famous radio and TV personalities in the UK. Michael Barratt, David Hamilton, Tony Blackburn, Ed Stewart, Jack de Manio, Tony Prince of course, and a few times by Michael Aspel OBE (for services to broadcasting). He interviewed DC for the radio and TV, but we haven't had any of those recordings, this one is the first.  2. I have known for some time that Jane, our webmaster has some great videos to publish, but this one is a wonderful surprise for me. As if to go back in time, those old/new videos. I know it was half a century ago, and that at the time I was 12 years old schoolgirl, but..t

I've thought I'll not write anything today, being rather busy, but I've just realized that tomorrow will be the 50th anniversary of the episode  # 14, from  S4. 'Two For The Show'. With Andy and David Williams.  In January 1974 DC left Partridge Family behind, (those last episodes were filmed in 1973), and at the time there were a lot of articles about his upcoming World Tour. That David would be the first pop star to play a concert at Eden Park, and also that he would be a guest of honor at the TV Week Logie Awards. Actually quite a lot was written about the episode with Williams's twins. His uncle Andy Williams said, "The boys did the episode but with the provision that if the show is picked up by the network (in America) they will be on every week. I guess David Cassidy is ducking out and David and Andy, will be, well, the new twin David Cassidys."  In another article, from January 13, 1974 we can read about the upcoming episode, "It should be

First David Cassidy in..Moscow. The only time he performed in my part of the world. It was on our Polish TV too, everywhere behind the Iron Curtain, it was May 1st celebration concert in 1989, but I never watched those transmissions from the Soviet Union.  The 1st May Day Celebration was one of the most important communist holidays. Sue Shifrin and DC were invited because Sue was one of the top American songwriters who took part (and wanted to take part) in the 'Music Speaks Louder Than Words' project. That was the first ever collaboration of songwriters from the USA and Soviet Union.  But I don't want to write about politics, it just happened I talked about Moscow and this song with one of my FB friends (thank you Stefania Gloria Sartori) yesterday. And since then I've watched this video a few times, and I shouldn't (and regret it) but I've read comments.. David looked so gorgeous and sexy. Happy and healthy. That's what counts. https://www.youtube.com/watc

From 'Sound Magazine', released by Bell Records in July 1971. We can hear that song performed by Partridge Family in S2 E2, called 'In 25 Words Or Less', first aired September 24, 1971. One of the Partridge Family songs David Cassidy used to perform also in the 21st century. Sometimes he took a phone from a fan from the  audience..joking that the number wasn't available any longer.. Let's see the fragment from the episode, when Mrs Neugast at last let  the band record Echo Valley. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PP6HtTcYXuE This is one of my favourite episode, DC was great and looked so gorgeous and that memorable scene from Muldoon's Point ('You kids invented something new?), interesting script and first of all great acting. Gerald Hiken as Bernie Applebaum, he twice appeared on TPF playing that good and boring doctor who dated Shirley. Gerald Hiken  died on January 6, 2021, aged 93. And wonderful Kay Medford. What an unforgettable scene. Kay Medford an

From 'Notebook' album, released in November 1972, by Bell Records. The song was first recorded as demo by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil themselves, but of course it's a big The Animals' hit from 1965. It became # 2 in the UK (behind The Beatles' 'Help'), and number 13 on the U.S. Hot Billboard 100 chart. An iconic song, it's on The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll's list. I think that there are songs which shouldn't be covered. They belong to the time in which they were created. 'We Gotta Get Out Of This Place' is one of them. In the 60s it became very popular  at high school proms and graduation parties. And maybe it was David himself who actually wanted to record it in 1972. He remembered the song from his high school years and he loved The Animals. And of course he was overworked..   The song became even more popular with United States Armed Forces members stacioned in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

'Who The Hell Is David Cassidy?!'

Image
That was the question Charles Laufer, the Tiger Beat's publisher asked his employees after watching David Cassidy on Marcus Welby, M.D.  We can say, without exaggeration that on January 13, 1970, when the episode with DC was aired on ABC,  his fate was sealed.  Chuck Laufer, 'A kid comes on and he's got diabetes. I didn't know who he was, but he was raw-boned and vulnerable, and I thought, this kid's terrific. So I waited for the credits. The next day I came into the office and asked, 'Who the hell is David Cassidy???' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gSsm5wCkiU&t=57s It's the most famous, the most important of David Cassidy's pre The Partridge Family's TV roles. It was the first season of that extremely popular TV series. Everybody watched it. David wore very posh clothes as his character, Michael Ambrose. In one scene he was shirtless.. In this article you can read some great stories told by DC, about his first TV roles. https://www.davidca

David Cassidy in London. 1987

Image
I haven't watched this interview for some time, so it was such a pleasure to see it again yesterday. Twice. Just to hear David Cassidy's laugh. Incredible. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1987TheLastResortWithJonathanRoss.html When asked by Johnatan Ross why he accepted the role in 'Time', DC's first answer was, 'Money'. Everybody laughed, it was meant to be a joke, but it was true of course. 'Time' was written by Dave Clark, from the band Dave Clark Five. A musical about a rock star, Chris Wilder, transported with his band to the High Court of the Universe. There were a lot of songs, and very impressive special effects. The role of Chris was very demanding vocally and physically. The show premiered at the Dominion Theatre in April 1986, with Cliff Richard as Chris Wilder. And after several months Cliff had enough. We can see him with DC in this very interesting video. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1987March10_Brea

Why This Guy..

Image
Let's start with the song I've listened to so many times, for me this song is a masterpiece. Perfection. No unnnecessary note or word. And David Cassidy's voice, his interpretation. A slow, calm intro, in the middle an explosion of emotions, and at the end..he will be there, on the dead end street, the one we can run to..  For me this is the best song ever written by David Cassidy and Sue Shifrin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f67B3B49RFI I've thought about this song recently after receiving a message, comment, I don't know how to call it, that I should leave DC alone. Find myself a new hobby. Stop writing my blog, start living my life and generally let David Cassidy Rest in Peace.  I get such messages/comments from time to time and normally I shrug my shoulders and laugh, I know that I have a life besides DC, and my blog has 200 000 views. I know that people want to read about him. But somehow (blame the cold weather) this time I've thought about that comment

Less Than Perfect. Part 2

Image
David Cassidy became a teen idol being 20 years old. At that age we all want to be cool, have fun and freedom, live on the edge, and the most important are friends and what they think about us. Being a part of a group.  DC had his share of fun, he became famous and rich, girls loved him, he could have many things his peers could only dream about, but he  was also lonely, overworked, had too much responsibility, and last but not least he had to live a double life. There were 2 Davids, the one everybody knew, a perfect dream boy, and that other one, a young man, a normal human being with his own flaws, own imperfections, who had to live undercover.  He met in secret with girls he really liked, his young fans believed that he was the pargon of all virtues and knew the answer to all questions. Some people believe in it even now, 6 years after he died, and 50 after he left the teen idol business. Quite recently I've read a discussion about a pic of young DC smoking a cigarette. Some fan

Less Than Perfect. Part 1

Image
David Cassidy appeared on TV series called 'Less Than Perfect'. It was aired in January 2005. So at first it has been an entry about his small role and first of all about the fact that he performed with Danny Bonaduce in that episode, but I've thought that 'Less Than Perfect'  is also a great title for a blog about DC.  Today the first part. We often use the word 'perfect' writing about David Cassidy, especially when we comment the way he looked in the 70s. Everything about him was perfect. Even my younger daughter once has said the same (unasked). She saw one of those DC's portraits, close-up of his face, and she was so impressed, really young David Cassidy's beauty was extraordinary, timeless. Everything about him was perfect, even the fact that he was short. Laurie Eby, my FB friend, has said once that it was part of his charm. All of us wanted to cuddle him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pG17uX7M8U Of course he knew how attractive he was, and

I've wanted to write about something else, only at the beginning of that entry mention Patrick Cassidy's birthday, but I've started reading about him, watching videos and..I've stayed with Cassidy Brothers. Patrick Cassidy had birthday on January 4, he was born in 1962, just 3 months before me, and I love his last published photograph, so wonderful and moving.  He looks fabulous, so handsome and so similar to his father, Jack. Patrick doesn't hide his age, doesn't dye his hair. It must have been difficult growing up in such a family, all of them working and successful actors, watching first David's, later Shaun's road to stardom. And he was just 11 when his parents divorced, and only 14 when his father died. I don't know much about Patrick Cassidy's career, I've read he tried his own way, he played football at high school, but was injured. Like all of them he is an actor and a singer. 59 credits, more on TV, a lot of popular TV shows. Really

A guy called Christopher Long has written this on 'INK19', that fragment is from Sound Magazine's review published there, and reading it in the morning has really made my day. Not a teen idol, not a sex symbol or heartthrob, but 'golden god rock star'. Wonderful. 'Irresistible Partridge Family tunes', yes! so true, or this one fragment about 'You Don't Have To Tell Me', 'one of Cassidy's all-time best studio performances. To this day, it's still difficult for me to listen to this one and breathe simultaneously.'.  I've fallen in love with Christopher Long. A new video again on The David Cassidy Official Website. I think it wasn't May 1981.  Because at the time, in May of 1981 DC started performing in Little Johnny Jones. And at the end of this interview when asked about his plans he said he was going to Nashville to make a new alboum, to record music again. I would say this interview is from 1982.  But of course I could be wrong, it's so annoying that we don't have many interviews, and so many we have are of bad quality, and on top of that we can't be sure of the dates.. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1981AMLosAngeles.html No, it must be 1982. He looked similar to the interview with Bob Chelmick, from June 1982, in Canada. https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1982SummerMagazine.html Really it's a detective work to establish basic facts. Anyway David looked gorgeous, but that interview has made me sad. How many times he had to explain that he wasn't a child actor, and those questions a

David Cassidy in New York. 1968

Image
But first another great new/old video, with TV interview from 1983, which has appeared on The David Cassidy Official Website today. I've watched it at the end of a very busy and rather demanding day, and it's really made me smile. He was so genuinely happy and proud to be on Broadway again, to be the star of the show played in his native city, in New York.  https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1983March23_TodayShow.html And it's an amazing coincidence, because today is the 55th anniversary of David Cassidy's debut on Broadway, in 'Fig Leaves Are Falling'. As we know that show was one of the most memorable flops in the Broadway's history, but that whole New York's experience was a very valuable lesson for DC. He arrived at New York in the early fall of 1968, and we know how he later complained that Jack was controlling and demanding, and that he made him work for his living. I think it speaks well about Jack Cassidy as a father, he could affor

David And..David

Image
What a nice surprise on the first day of this new year, 2024. A new video, and what's more from 1981. There are just a few DC's guest appearances from 1981 on the website, and in most cases we have only screenshots. So it's really extraordinary, poor David, at the time he no longer had the money earned through his hard work, but only terrible debts, and his marriage with Kay was only on paper.  https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/TvFilmPages/1981July16_HourMagazine.html 2 Davids. This precious name, we have a Polish version of it, but it sounds different and it's not very popular. Every year on the first day I write about the song called 'January' and those two Davids. David Paton, just a little bit older than DC, born in Edinburgh in October 1949, at the end of the 60s was a member of ..Bay City Rollers, but never recorded with the group. In 1973 he was a co-founder of Pilot, their first album was produced by Alan Parsons, and I loved their first hit, wrote by
