We Gotta Get Out Of This Place / Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil
From 'Notebook' album, released in November 1972, by Bell Records. The song was first recorded as demo by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil themselves, but of course it's a big The Animals' hit from 1965. It became # 2 in the UK (behind The Beatles' 'Help'), and number 13 on the U.S. Hot Billboard 100 chart. An iconic song, it's on The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll's list.
I think that there are songs which shouldn't be covered. They belong to the time in which they were created. 'We Gotta Get Out Of This Place' is one of them. In the 60s it became very popular at high school proms and graduation parties. And maybe it was David himself who actually wanted to record it in 1972. He remembered the song from his high school years and he loved The Animals. And of course he was overworked..
The song became even more popular with United States Armed Forces members stacioned in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Why Partridge Family recorded it? I can only guess, but sure we can hear that DC felt the responsibility..and his vocals was outstanding.

I've thought about this song listening to the conversation with David's son, Beau Cassidy, for the podcast called 'Beyond The Briefing'. That conversation was recorded 6 months ago.
Beau Cassidy is now one of Senior Brokers for Bishop Gold. And Bishop Gold Group is a leader in investing in gold and other precious metals in the United States. Wow..who could have thought that David Cassidy's son would be selling gold.
The big part of that conversation is about his work, and Beau has very nice, confident and trusting voice, he is very competent, and yes. I'd have bought something from him. He obviously is a kind of man who learns from mistakes and wants stabilitly. 'Uncertainty', he has repeated that word a few times while talking about his growing up, his parents' choices and careers, and his own past career as a songwriter.
Fathers and sons. 'Labour of Love'.

Beau Cassidy appreciates that as a kid he had a normal family life, normal household, regular school, that David didn't want for him the kind of life he had as a kid and young man. It was very normal upbringing. But of course he witnessed his parents struggles, that in showbusiness is always about the next job and it means a lot of stress and lack of stability. He's also mentioned (at least twice) how bad investments in 2008 affected his family. The leitmotive of this conversation is stability. For Beau the most important is stability in his life.
At the end of the podcast is a real surprise. Is it possible that Beau has already married?
