Get It Up For Love / Ned Doheny

Image
Side B of the David Cassidy's single, 'I Write The Songs' from July 1975. A killer hit. Wrote in 1974 by a very handsome, another underrated songwiter, singer and guitarist, Ned Doheny. He recorded that song himself in 1976. But something different first. Very important Our PETITION. Please sign https://chng.it/NgppymDR6K Mike Read is another celebrity who supports our campaign. Music Walk Of Fame Stone Honour For David Cassidy. Thank you so much. We are so, so grateful.  Mike Read, another legendary dj, journalist, writer and tv presenter. He worked with Radio 1, he was a television host for Top Of The Pops and children's programme 'Saturday Superstore' (also legendary), and music panel game 'Pop Quiz'. But this is not everything. He is a real renaissance man, he writes songs, sings, performs in musicals and last but not least in 2013 Mike Read and 3 friends founded the British Plaque Trust. Such a busy man, but he's found time for David Cassidy and

Yes, so true. 'I write the songs of love...my music's in your heart..' Let's listen again to this song and once again watch David Cassidy's timeless and unforgettable performance.  'I Write The Songs' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_6cwUso8CA This is a perfect song about David and millions of his fans, and I'm sure it was one of the reasons he decided to record this song after the prior refusal. Of course we all know Barry M.'s version, but only today I've checked that very first one, recorded by Captain & Tennille. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXUMxCD3l3k David Cassidy was the first one who released this song as a single. On July 5th 1975 it debuted at number 11 in the UK. I think his version is the best and the most personal. It's a little bit complicated to explain why. The lyrics. Barry Manilow who at first didn't want to record 'I Write The Songs', wrote in his book : 'The problem with the song was that if you di

Thank you Tony Prince, for your support and for your words. Long live David Cassidy music, we have been enyoing it for so many years and nothing will change. It still brings us so much joy and happiness. His songs never fail to improve my mood or just make me feel better. Always.  And it happens that 51 years ago DC performed for the first time in a place where he was  happy himself. At Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs. Sure he must have felt awful that first time, because just 2 weeks later he had his surgery..We know that he didn't feel good for quite a lot of time, but no one knew how serious the problem was. Of course the stress and overwork were to blame. And even when it was obvious that he had serious problem with his gall bladder nothing really was done. On the contrary.  Yes he got Demerol (and it's highly addictive) and they put him on diet. There was work to be done.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YcZnUSHLvc 'They put me on this diet ; no sp

I love London, also because there are endless possibilities of discovering and exploring this amazing city. You can try to visit for example all the parks, or museums or football grounds.  There is Shakespeare's London and Charles Dickens' London, and many, many more, wherever you go or stay there is always something absolutely outstanding to see. When I was in May this year my hotel was 300 meters from The Paddington Station, which is a marvel in itself,  200 meters from the Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum, and about 800m from Hyde Park.  You can spend many, many years in London and still so many things to see left. And of course now first of all I want to get to know better the David Cassidy's London.  Let's listen to the song (one of my fav from Romance album) recorded by DC in London, in 1984. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxhRzr7_O78 It's a great mystery why this very well made and produced album wasn't released in the US. It scored a Top Ten hit with

But the petition first. We are making progress, a steady one. How to encourage undecided? How to reach to those who don't know about the London Music Walk Of Fame, and I'm sure there must be quite a lot of such fans. So many don't belong to any DC's group, so many are not on social media at all. We will not go door to door of course..but why not print the logo of our campaign and display somewhere. If you have any ideas, please let us know. We'll keep writing about the petition and we won't give up. Of course we will have more support from some of many of David Cassidy's famous friends or musicians who worked with him, a lot of people really love the idea of DC getting such recognation, but first of all we, fans, should sign the petition, we must be sure ourselves that David Cassidy was a great singer and he should have that stone. We must believe that it's possible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9JhFQn2Dkg And it was something everybody was aware fro

But first our petition. London Music Walk Of Fame .  We are so happy for each signature and for the comments fans write. Very moving read. We need more. We need many more, so please do this little thing for David Cassidy and sign. We can make it happen, together, all fans wherever we live. And we DC's fans live everywhere. I know. I can see where my readers are from. Europe (also in Ukraine and..Russia), America (North and South) and  Caribbean, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and even in Africa, Sometimes I have to check where some countries are. Like Vanuatu. And really a great amount of articles about David, how he was underrated, how he shou

First the link to the petition. Please sign and don't be afraid. And don't hesitate. It's very easy and please remember there is no need to pay anything, everything is secure. No costs, no worries. Today is another anniversary, another 21st. Let's do it for David.. https://chng.it/NgppymDR6K 'David must be on the MWoF' Those words are not mine (but it's my opinion of course), but David Hamilton's. We have his support and it means a lot for us. He's sent Sharron that message : 'David Cassidy MUST be on The Music Walk of Fame.  I remember hosting his concerts at Wembley and interviewing him on Radio 1 in the 70s. He was a huge star. Such was his following that so many of his fans worship him today. ONE OF THE TRUE GIANTS OF MUSIC, a great actor and seller of millions of records.   'Give me a D...give me an A..'  David Hamilton, a legendary radio and tv personality. I Love You Keith!

Keith Partridge? To be a teen again and have such a neighbour..Yes..I can imagine. No, not Keith P., but Keith Atack. I always had a soft spot for him. In the 70s he was a member (with his twin brother, Tim) of the British pop group Child. Keith and Tim were born in April 1959, and the band was formed in the early 70s. In the second part of that decade they had some hits, appeared on some tv programs, also on Top Of The Pops. The music ..wasn't very good, but it was fun and they looked great and were very popular with girls. And despite being a pop band in the punk age, 'Child' was voted the second most popular UK band amongst teenage girls in a 1978 poll conducted by the magazine Fab 208 So let's have a look. Keith was playing bass, his brother Tim, drums. 'Child' and a cover of 'When You Walk In the Room'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3j_6mA1FM8 They even did a cover of 'I Lost My Chance', but..better not. In 1980 it was the end of 'Chi

David Cassidy according to The History of Rock

Something different today.. I was searching for a new quote for my daily column when I found this on the website. The article about DC and The Partridge Family in The History of Music. It was a British rock music magazine published in the 80s. In total there were 2400 pages on many aspects of the contemporary music and of course many biographs. The best and the most influential British  music critics and journalists contributed to that magazine. Let's first listen to some music. From Sound Magazine, 'I'm On My Way Back Home'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSExKeJlc3Q Tom Hibbert (1952-2011) wrote about DC for The History of Music. The title of his article : 'David Cassidy : teen dream from tv screen.'. Where to start..There are quite a lot of info in it, at first glance everything looks ok, but I wonder where did he get the idea that it was Shirley Jones who proposed DC for the role of Keith. First heard. But I really don't liked this : '..the music (T

I'm a little disappointed after my yesterday's blog about the Music Walk of Fame in London. So much work, some talking first with Sharron, the first draft wasn't good, I was carried away a little bit and wrote a kind of fairy tale about David (funny really), later  gathering all that info, writing again and it wasn't easy, and the result -  just 2 persons more who signed the petition..I'm sure there are more David's fans than 666..Or maybe others don't believe he will ever get such recognition.. And of course there are fans who don't understand why  DC should be remembered. I know such fans, English ones. :  'It was half a century ago..In the 70s you weren't interested in music played in the 20s Weronika, and now you want people start listening to DC again?' 'I know there will not be new fans, but he should be more known, more appreciated  I don't like when people say  : 'David Cassidy? First heard'. Or even worse  - 'Davi

Music Walk Of Fame Stone Honour For David Cassidy

Music Walk Of Fame in London. I can’t imagine a better place, a better tribute for David Cassidy to have a stone there. It would also be a great tribute for his fans in the UK, they always loved David and never let him down. The feeling was mutual. He loved his fans and he called London his second home David Cassidy never was Keith Partridge in the UK. His success started before the show was shown. It was his music and his image which made him a huge star there. A superstar. When he was to come on tour the most popular newspapers had special editions on him, he gave hundreds of interviews. His singles and albums charted in the UK like in any place on Earth. In the 70s, 80s and after 2000. In total with singles he had 2 UK number 1s ('How Can I Be Sure' and 'Daydreamer'), 6 UK Top 10s, 10 UK Top 40s. Albums - 1 UK number 1 ('Dreams Are Nuthin' More Then Wishes'), 5 UK Top 10s, 7 UK Top 40s. In total his records spent 221 weeks in the Top 75. David Bridger (Be

'Summer Days', June... and Tony Romeo.

I don't know how it's possible but it's June again and I feel like that man from an old joke, who once eating his toast in the morning said : 'I feel like I eat breakfast all the time'. So it's something similar with me and June. Such an important month always, the last at school before summer holidays, a lot of family birthdays, the Father's Day, my wedding..And the longest days, always perfect weather...'I feel the sunlight on my face..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtAv3gY8iLo And since I've become an avid DC's fan, June is my personal Tony's Romeo month. He died in June, on the 23rd, in 1995. At the age of 56. I'm afraid that he always be a kind of mysterious figure for me, even that I still trying to find something more about him. I've checked The Cowsills website, and it seems they have nothing really to say about him. But they've included Tony's obituary from the Sunday Gazette (June 25, 1995) with some info.  Be

David Cassidy - Teenage Dream

Image
What a great title for this really extraordinary BBC doc, directed by Karen Walsh, for me this one is very important. He was our dream and in a way still is, even that we are not teens anymore. Some of us have grandkids. That documentary was aired on December 12, 1998. And it was a sheer luck, an amazing coincidence that I watched it. In 1998 I forgot completely that once I loved music so much, I forgot how once I'd heard 'How Can I Be Sure' and how I'd fallen in love with that fabulous voice. I was overworked, lived in an enormous stress, had no money, was very unhappy and had no idea what to do with my life. And that evening I just had some free time, turned the tv on (we had a satelite tv), and it just started ..and I found myself in another dimension, another time.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxZ3q6WUvw8 Only 40 minutes,  they didn't change my life, but how completely stunned me. I never saw any of those footage, never had a teen mag in my hands, and seei

David Cassidy - To Australia With Love

Image
We should really be grateful for the documentaries we have. Weekend at Wembley is great, the same can be said about 'David Cassidy. To Australia With Love'. The love was mutual as we can see while watching this amazing film. The World Tour 1974. David Cassidy wrote about it : 'The last world tour turned out to be a circus. We were all partying hard - the band, the security people, everybody. If you ask me what I remember from that tour, the hijnks and escapades come to mind before any of the concerts themselves.' (David Cassidy : Could It Be Forever?, 2007).  Yes, we have read about it of course, they had a lot of fun, but I'm not going to write about those lucky ladies (and Gina L.). But first of all DC and his people were working  very hard in those very difficult circumstances. Almost nothing went as planned. The most crazy tour ever. And the concerts.. The heat. The wind. The fans trying to get on stage, The collapsing scene.  The fans throwing toys, flowers and

Weekend At Wembley

Image
After my last blog on the DC tv biopic, my very good FB friend Laurie Eby wrote :' the documentary didn't do him any favors'. I think she's meant 'The Last Session'. We've discussed it a few times. Anyway, it's made me think about documentries on DC we have. And  in my opinion, taking into account circumstances, we are lucky that we have a few quite good ones, even if they mainly concern the 70s, David as a teen idol. Today I want to write about : Weekend At Wembley An amazing doc about those 3 crazy days when in March 1973, David Cassidy performed in London, made for the BBC series called 'This Week', It was aired March 22, 1973. I'm not sure we have a whole film, anyway it's a testimony of what a huge star David Cassidy was and what madness surrounded him. It's  also a proof of what a lot of journalists wrote at the time. That David looked like a teen but was very smart, very aware of what was going on, and he talked like a 30 yea

The David Cassidy Story

I was  thinking  about  that film one day in London last month. It started with musicals. I must say that  musicals are not very popular in Poland. For many reasons, anyway we have just 2 musical theaters in Warsaw (2 million people live there) and I think I've been just twice. The one show was a present from me for some guests from Iceland, it was a Polish original musical about the Polish pilots fighting in the Battle of Britain, and it was very good. Really. And the second one was 'Miss Saigon' and it was horrible. I went to see it only because a very handsome actor was in it (it was at least 20 years ago), but he had no voice to speak of and was hopless (I wonder what happened to him, he is not popular anymore). But London, oh yes you can see how music theatre  is popular there. Maybe let's watch (and listen to) David Cassidy in Blood Brothers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gu2MDK86Gqg Amazing. So one day in May I was going (on foot and by tube) to meet with my En

This is such an amazing song..something really magical about it. I keep returning to it very often. David Cassidy performed it just once on The Russell Harty Show, in 1976. Soulful, so emotional and I think also so difficult to perform,  all by himself, and DC had also a cold, or maybe was just so tired. In the morning before that program he gave a press interview, he chain- smoked and looked..horrible.  'He is much thinner. The eyes though, are red..It's almost as if the eyes belonged to someone else, some alien, raw and red as a carrot..' http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/InPrintPages/Mag1976April3Sounds.html Great article. Yes, DC's RCA albums are fabulous. I've thought about them after reading a  comment today. A fellow fan, Lisa Bailey Owens : 'he (David) never gave himself enough credit..years of being belittled and put down by Jack'. Yes, never.  DC had problems with trusting people, dealing with rejection..He wasn't sure of himself, he wasn'

The weather is to blame. It's like living in a sauna and waiting for a storm. It's so tiring..Anyway  yesterday I wrote about Austin Butler, the new Elvis, and his old role on 'Ruby and the Rockits' as Jordan Gallagher. And today I've wanted to write about the reasons the show was cancelled so fast. And also about my fav episode in which DC teaches Jordan/Austin on songwriting. Austin sang a few songs on 'Ruby'. I'd love to know what DC had thought about that teenager.  Austin was born in 1991, he was 18 when he performed in 'Ruby' But suddenly I thought to myself - 'Who cares? Really, who cares why the show was cancelled? No one'.  Because let's face it, we fans of course appreciate DC's stage, tv or even film roles, but first of all we are still in love with David Cassidy..the most gorgeous man ever.  We love to admire those old pics, we watch his tv appearances just to look at him (and his smile) and hear his voice. And we la

Every morning while drinking my first coffee I read what I've got on my email from 'Uncle' Google.  I have Google Alerts set on David Cassidy and The Partridge Family. I read everything and send our webmaster only interesting info. It's a very educational kind of work. 95% are trash (from my point of view). Old DC and TPF's photos, the memorabilia people sell online and..how to call them, maybe 'new merchandise', clothes, blankets or watches with DC face on them. Quite a lot of articles are about former and current stars who at some point at their career performed with David Cassidy. Most articles about Emma Stone mention her debut in 2004, on a  reality show called 'In Search Of The New Partridge Family'. On YT there is a fragment of finale of that program, with Shirley, Danny, Suzanne, Brian, Dave Madden and ..David. It's very moving to watch them together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h29cI44e84k&t=537s As we know that show produced onl

Celebration of the 70s

Image
The post about Suzi Quatro and DC has made me think about the 70s' music. It was really a special decade, the music was so good and so important. Maybe now it's the same and I just don't know..I can only say that for my kids (they are over 30 now) music never was as important as it was for me. And for many of my school friends. We talked a lot about new albums, new hits, shared info, music was the most important, deadly serious topic of conversation.  And especially 1975 was such an extraordinary year, so many unforgettable albums, Pink Floyd  and Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Nazareth, Rush and Budgie, and of course Queen 'A Night At The Opera', and Bob Marley, Elton John and Donna Summer, The Eagles, 10cc and many, many more. Each day brought something new and  very exciting. So many unforgettable songs. David had bad luck that 'The Higher They Climb' was released in 1975. What a shame because it's such a good album. My daughter heard 'Be-Bop-A-Lul

The Real David Cassidy

Image
Or looking for the real David..It's something we discuss with my friend B. quite often. How he kept changing during the years and how he hid behind new images. Once she even joked - 'He chose 'Enigma' (a record label) because the name of it'. It was something a lot of journalists tried to find out, who was David Cassidy?. In March 1972 Lillian Roxon wrote in an article called 'The Real David Cassidy' (SundayNews, March19,1972) : 'There are 2 David Cassidys. The public DC wears those rather jive fringed white suits because the kids love them. The real David Cassidy is a blue jeans man. The public David Cassidy is hell to interview. He's intensely aware that several million little girls read every word he says and take them very seriously. The private David Cassidy is also cautious, but a lot smarter..(..) I loved the concert at MSG. I loved his gentleness with the girls (..) but really there's that other David Cassidy there too..' https://www.

David Cassidy and Susan Kay Quatro

Image
It was a surprise for me, I've had no idea that they were the same age, just a coincidence of course. Suzi Quatro was born on June 3rd, 1950, and  yesterday evening I spent happy time listening to  some very old hits https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPTsl3GQffc Oh yes, that was fun.  She wasn't the first girl playing bass and singing in a band, but I loved Suzi Quatro, Even being 12 or 13 I knew her hits wasn't very meaningful or ambitious kind of music, but it was our first step to enjoying rock, and how I wish I were her, playing with boys, in a real band. And she was  a bandleader, that was also important. She said in 2013 : ' I played the boys at their own game. For everybody that came afterword, it was a little bit easier. I'm proud of that.' (Dec14,2013, Metro Times, Scranton, Pennsylvania).  'Devil Gate Drive'. Still such excitement after 48 years. And she really had a voice.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qwIC2CLEsM Susan from Detroit, Michigan

'Young Love' and 'The Last Kiss'

Image
Why David recorded 'Romance' album? I've got a comment after my  last entry from an American fan, Celeste. That David was much better than eighties pop. Of course, he was. He was one and only, it's such a shame that he didn't have a manager to the excent of his talent. DC :'I believed in the Romance album and the record company believed in it and it worked. (..) I changed my look by tinting my hair. They thought I needed to get away from the look I'd had in the 70s. (..) It was clear as I toured that I had a loyal audience (..) I had no management to speak of any more, they certinly didn't work towards long-term career building. They just wanted to make some quick money off me..' (David Cassidy : 'Could It Be Forever?', 2007) Yes, they did, and the first question is why DC did 'Romance'. Of course he wanted to be successful again, he tried so hard, nothing came out of the recordings he did in 1979, also of those from Nashville. He k

How happy must have been David Cassidy in June 1985. At least he talked a lot about his happiness in countless interviews. Also about a marriage bliss.  He worked so hard to promote his new LP, 'Romance'. He had a photo session with..a popular person, videos were made. We have the list of 45 DC's guest tv appearances from 1985 on the website, and I know it's not everything.  Morning and kids programes, Top Of The Pops, the most popular music programs in Holland, Germany, Italy, Belgium and France. The most popular talk shows in the UK. David singing in the company of some pink baloons (many of them) or talking about his music..half naked, in a bath.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5jqL2bdV0w&t=175s Amazing.. The single The Last Kiss/ The Letter was released by Arista in February 1985, it hit number 6 in the UK in March, and the album hit number 20 on June 9th, 1985. 37 years ago. We know that David Cassidy didn't have any support when BMG acquired Arista, and
