The Real David Cassidy

Or looking for the real David..It's something we discuss with my friend B. quite often. How he kept changing during the years and how he hid behind new images. Once she even joked - 'He chose 'Enigma' (a record label) because the name of it'. It was something a lot of journalists tried to find out, who was David Cassidy?. In March 1972 Lillian Roxon wrote in an article called 'The Real David Cassidy' (SundayNews, March19,1972) :

'There are 2 David Cassidys. The public DC wears those rather jive fringed white suits because the kids love them. The real David Cassidy is a blue jeans man. The public David Cassidy is hell to interview. He's intensely aware that several million little girls read every word he says and take them very seriously. The private David Cassidy is also cautious, but a lot smarter..(..) I loved the concert at MSG. I loved his gentleness with the girls (..) but really there's that other David Cassidy there too..'

And it was like that through his whole career, with new images ..a blond pop star in the 80s, a mature rocker in the early 90s, a vulnerable, boyish star of 'Blood Brothers'.. An article from January21,2000, www.lasvegassun.com. : 'Having seen Cassidy here in EFX, as producer and performer in The Rat Pack Is Back and co-starring in his own-tailor made vehicle (At The Copa) we are not sure we've ever seen the real David Cassidy. Is his on -stage persona just a collection of well chosen derivatives?'

I've been thinking about those articles watching some fragments from the David Cassidy concert at The Bears Den, Niagara Falls, NY, June 21, 2013. Maybe I'm naive, but for me while singing for his fans, DC was always real. Just the way he really was.

And one more thing. Of course this is a free world, and we have a choice if we want to read something or listen to something, so I don't regret..but while listening to that podcast I thought to myself :' Thanks God I'm not a famous person and when I die my ex-boy friends, lovers or my ex-husband will not be tempted..poor David'

    Well done.It is only necessary to know the genuine David Cassidy if you are willing to accept him and willing to ‘now that not all that is written is the truth.People have an agenda and it is not always to inform.

      Of course, I'm a fan, and I respect his privacy, he told us a lot and I appreciate it, the rest is unimportant gossip.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing today's blog just to gossip about DC's private life, it's because I always admired that amazing woman, Kay Ann Lenz. Let's first listen to something which was not released, why they didn't want David singing that song is a great mystery for me. Listening to his young, sincere, innocent and magical voice is one in a kind moving experience. 'I Just Hated Being In The Show..'

Last week someone posted a screenshot of the article from May 1974, unfortunately without the date or the name of the paper. Written by a popular journalist Roderick Gilchrist, I think it was Daily Express. We can read that this interview took place at London Weekend Television's Building, on the day before the DC's last concert in Manchester.  And David said, "I feel like the door to the cage has just been opened. And, any minute now I'm going to be able to fly right away from my prison.
