'People will never forget how you made them feel..

Image
.and I know that I'll never forget how all of you made me feel', wrote David in a letter for fans. (December25, 2010). Btw it was a quote from Maya Angelou, another person I've learnt about because of David Cassidy. David Cassidy's Official Las Vegas Star Ceremony April 12, 2022..Just a few days left. I can imagine how soon girls (and boys) start packing..it's going to be a great event, so important for all of us, and those of us who  stay at home  will be with those lucky ones in spirit. You are our representatives. Don't forget about it. David has fans all over the world. My blog about DC is read really everywhere, during last 7 days it's had readers from : France, the USA, the UK, Germany, Spain, Canada, Australia, Netherlands, Poland, Iceland, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan, Brazil, India, Italy, Puerto Rico, Moldova, Sweden, Indonesia, Belgium, Denmark. Last 7 days. We all want this day to  be very special. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXnQABJ9N

'Could It Be Forever?'. The Book

Image
David Cassidy's second autobiography was published 15 years ago, in March 2007. Let's first listen to that great David's hit, wrote by Wes Farrell and Danny Janssen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Dc-TiIzaGY An early 70s perfect smash, wonderful song, just less than 3 minutes, but sure one of the most memorable songs from that era. Wes knew his job. David's autobiographies. Sex, drugs and rock&roll. There are some fans who are still afraid to read them. They prefer to remember DC as  someone who still brings only light, love, smile and laughter etc..There are fans who write a lot about respect for the DC's memory and legacy, you know what I mean. And I understand this, but on the other hand I hate censorship and I think DC wouldn't have liked to see himself still worshipped as that white knight, or a  guardian angel etc. He fought with that image  his whole life. And writing those books was his decision. He wanted us to know how it really was. https://www.y

Labor Of Love / David Cassidy, Sue Shifrin, Micheal Dan Ehmig

I've been writing recently a lot about podcasts or people who worked with DC, but of course his music is the most important for me. And each time I return to that album ('David Cassidy', released in 1990) I just can't believe how well it was produced, and I wonder why it wasn't more popular. The opener,  'Labor of Love', a ready hit, a great intro, solid mainstream rock, interesting, sincere lyrics, and fabulous, mature DC voice..A wonderful and exciting song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Z-aBmyCX10 The  whole album is great. Produced by legendary Phil Ramone and E.T Throngren (Talking Heads' producer), recorded with the help of many outstanding musicians like John Wetton, Jeff Baxter, Michael Thompson, Michael Landau and Mark Spiro, to name a few. Phil Ramone called DC a very through professional, a fine musician and songwriter. In 1990 this album was on the Billboard 200 chart for 12 weeks, peaked at number 136. Every month a lot of new alums are a

Shirley Mae Jones - The Sound Of Music

Image
Yes..why Shirley wasn't Maria..Maybe because of Shaun, because of love. Her first son was born in September 1958. 'The Sound of Music', the last Rodgers and Hammerstain's musical which opened on Broadway in November 1959 and got a lot of Tony Awards. But on the other hand Shirley returned to work very quickly, she performed in 'Wish You Were Here!' with Jack in 1959.. She was one of Robert Wise 3 choices for Maria for the film version..She played her on stage at Westbury Music Theatre. And I've found that video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AI9YC9rGYws It must have been hard..after so succesfull  first years of her  career in music films and an Academy Award for a dramatic role in 'Elmer Gentry'. In 1965 she appeared in a movie called 'The Secret Of My Success', and no roles for the next four years. Not so much on tv either. There is a pilot on YT of an unsold tv series from 1965 called 'Dream Wife', with Shirley in the title role.

Brooks..Gloria...Trish..David's Backing Singers

Image
Not an easy blog to write, because we don't have enough info. Brooks Hunnicutt was with DC at those first ever 2 concerts, and probably during the first concert season. In 1971 David played 35 gigs in the US. On  May 16th, 1971 , Jack Wiley wrote on Dayton Daily News : 'The 14 piece back-up group, complete with 3 vocalists who filled in for 45 minutes the first half of the show, was adequate. Kim Carnes and David Ellingson, both from LA, did a duet in 4 songs. Than tall, slender Brooks Hunnicutt, an Atlanta girl, with hair down to her waist, gave the kinds a lot of soul sounds' In 1971 she even had an own column, 'Let's Tour with David'   https://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/InPrintPages/Mag1971Aug_TigerBeatOfficialPartridgeFamilyMagazine_30.pdf   http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/InPrintPages/Mag1971Nov_TigerBeatOfficialPFMag_14.pdf Brooks Hunnicutt is a quite known session singer, recorded  and toured with great musicians - Rod Stewart, Stephen Stills, Helen

David Cassidy in Las Vegas

Image
When I think about April 12th, 2022..so many emotions. Another David's birthday without him. He was always 12 years older than me, I was born in April too. I'm sorry I will not be in Las Vegas on that day, I will miss that once in a lifetime opportunity to meet  other DC's fans, fantastic people with whom I write quite a lot on social media. Fellow fans.. But first of all I'm so proud we have made it. Because that STAR, it's David's and ours. Our gift for him. Our thank you for everything. Each and every fan has its share. And I mean not only money.. I was in Las Vegas in April 2019. 2 days and 2 nights. What an amazing place,  in the middle of the desert, surrounded by mountains ranges on all sides. The first day I spent hiking a little bit in Red Rock Canyon. Just breathtaking ..I love the American mountains. And the next day I left my group because I wanted to be alone while  walking in the David Cassidy's footsteps. I spent quite a lot of time sitting at

David Cassidy in Japan

Image
I'm writing today's blog completely without any plan and I have no idea where it will lead me. But I always wanted to write about David Cassidy and Japan. Even if I don't know much and I hope that maybe some fans from Japan can add something. When my sister visited me last year she noticed the photo immediately - 'Nice, David wearing yukata.'..'What?'...'a kind of summer kimono' (my sister was in Japan and even travelled there on her own). I just liked that pic and that's why I put it on my wall, but of course it'd been taken in Japan. And it's wonderful that it's not the only one. We have some those Japanese photos on the DC Website   http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/ConcertPages/1974March_JapaneseConcertPhotos.html David arrived in Japan on March 21, 1974 (from Hong Kong).Don Murfet, who was responsible for the security on the DC World Tour in 1974, wrote about that arrival in his book called  'Leave It To Me'. Meryl Tanz Part 2. Carol Kaplan's Podcast

Image
(c) When you've said 'a', you should be ready to say 'b'. Or curiosity killed the cat..Anyway I've written about Part 1 of that conversation, so I will not be a chicken and will write about Part 2. But first a song, and this one will be the best for today's blog. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sV70Fcu8OiY&t=97s Yes, we are still very emotional about DC and we cherish those memories.  Meryl Tanz. Part 2. We've listened to it in the morning (me and  my English friends) and we discussed it a little bit.  So what can I say.. 1,The most important thing is, that Carol Kaplan has warned listeners they would hear things they might not like. They have a choice. She is a pro. And she let Meryl speak. 2. It was touching when Meyl Tanz' said that she still lives in the same house which she shared for a short time with David Cassidy and that she hasn't remarried, I was sorry that her daughter Caroline'd had problems at school because of DC's phot

The David Cassidy Connections. Barb Collentine

Image
I'm a librarian. A retired one, but once a librarian..And for me Louise Poynton's podcast, the collections of the conversations which have appeared on The David Cassidy Connections so far, is like a huge, very friendly library. You can browse and choose and listen whenever you want to. Louise works very hard, and  there are still quite a lot of episodes I haven't listened to yet. The main reason is that English is not my native language, so I always need that extra free time to sit at my desk, put the headphones on, and listen. And today I've been listening to the conversation with the American fellow fan, Barb Collentine. Let's start with a song. Barb's said that her first TPF's album was 'Up To Date', so let's listen to the Tony Romeo's masterpiece, 'Morning Rider On The Road'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzqH4OxumCw Barb Collentine, my FB's 'friend', we have exchanged some messages, and she wrote an article for my b

Puppy Love / Paul Anka

Image
'Someone help me..' how we laughed at it..but also sang together with Donny and danced. That song was played at every school party..But of course I've never thought I will write about it on my blog. So let's listen first and I'll later tell you why.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zI2hgm65WhE 'Puppy Love', the biggest Donny's hit was a cover, wrote by Paul Anka in 1960 for a girl whom he had a crush on. So many the 70s hits were covers, people have short memory. The original is very moving and this video is just charming, very happy girls in the audience ( and one unmoved boy) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR89JVJqBYg So why Donny..I've been in Warsaw today, left my car at home, because now  400 000 more people live in my home city (refugees), so better use public transport. Anyway while on my way home I've been reading news and some articles and I've found that one https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/donny-osmond-child-star-las-vegas-re

How Can We Hang On To A Dream / Tim Hardin

Image
I have no choice, I have to buy a new phone. Great opportunity to remove a lot of pics and messages, and old whatsapp conversations. And while doing this I've found some hidden gems, some videos or articles I've forgotten about, and today instead doing something useful, I've spent some happy hours in my garden watching and listening and reading and admiring. and maybe there are fans who never seen some of  those so.. Let's start with one of my fav videos ..I just can't find words, only that life is so unfair and it should have been me with DC of course, not any of those girls.. He was so gorgeous..It's just incredible that one man had..everything. I've once read an article and  a journalist (a man) wrote that DC had a kind of face 'that launched a thousands ships'.Of course is a known figure of speech that refers to Helen of Troy, not to DC, but such a beauty can be a blessing, but  also a curse.  This amazing video is about making  the cover for Dav

C'mon Get Happy / Danny Janssen, Wes Farrell

Image
David Cassidy about the songs he recorded for TPF : 'Everything we did was about happiness, joy, light, the songs are positive and inspirational.' And : 'For the last 30 years, people have walked up to me singing, -'Hello, world, here's the song that we're singing, c'mon get happy'. They wanted to hear it to the end, and DC kept singing that song for fans..whatever he thought about it himself and no matter how he felt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7G8RAD8-3_A Maybe I'm just an grumpy old woman ..blame today's International Happiness Day. For the first 27 years of my life I lived in a communist country, and we were forced to celebrate a lot of days..Miner's Day, Anniversary of  the October Revolution in USSR..many other anniversaries, and we had to learn and sing The Internationale, and had to learn and recite some awful poems about Russian-Polish friendship. I hated them and maybe it's a reason I still don't like any such days..Inte

Meryl Tanz. Part 1. Carol Kaplan's Podcast

Image
We were very excited (me and my English friends), when in December 2019 we heard about the upcoming podcast. I think at the time I had no idea what a podcast was. There was quite a lot of publicity, and we liked the logo, Carol Kaplan's pic, and first of all the title of the podcast..'My Life with David Cassidy'. We were intrigued and listened to all conversations. With Elliot Mintz, Ann Moses and Chip Deffaa. But it was the end of the first season, and now, at last, Carol  is back. (c) If I had to compare Carol's podcast with Louise Poynton's wonderful 'The David Cassidy Connections', I'd say Louise Poynton is more interested in David's place in the music history, in the pop culture history, in his legacy, and Carol is more interested in what David was like. Of course it's difficult to compare them, first of all because Louise Poynton started her podcast in August 2020 and she interviewed so many people..it's just my impression So Meryl Ta

David Cassidy a Songwriter. Frozen Noses.

Image
It's warm during a day, I'm spending a lot of time in my garden, and I'm writing today about 'chill winds', snow and ice..But there is quite cold at night and my family in Iceland still fights with snow. The oldest Icelanders don't remember such weather.. 'Frozen Noses', the side B of the single released in 1974, the side A was 'If I Didn't Care', both songs just wonderful and so different than any other single released when DC was a teen idol. 'If I Didn't Care' recorded for the first time in 1939 (by 'Ink Spots'), it's one of the best selling single of all time, 19 millions copies sold worldwide. I always thought that it was just great and extraordinary that DC recorded his own version, what an unusual choice for the 70s teen idol, even that at the time the 20s and 30s were popular. David's 'If I Dididn't Care' cover is just amazing, his voice so smooth and dreamy. It was #9 in the UK, in May 1974 htt

David Cassidy a Songwriter. Junked Heart Blues

Image
The songs David Cassidy wrote himself, music and lyrics..There is something special about them. Not easy to describe why, something magical and elusive, they are very personal and at the same time very general. So sincere and everyone who has ever been abandoned, ever has had a broken heart, understands his pain. The songs he wrote himself in the 70s..they were so sad also because David was unhappy in love. And I can't write about those songs and not say anything about his private life. ( as much as I don't like it) When he was a teen idol DC dated a lot of girls and some of them were written about as his love interests. David : 'I like to play the field. I haven't dated the same girl twice (April 1971) 'I'm not really looking for a steady girl', 'I dig someone who's settled, usually older than I am, who isn't that liable to do a lot of talking later (November 1972).  And in 2007 : 'A lot of women I met struck me as opportunists. They were us

David Cassidy a Songwriter. 'Ricky's Tune'

Image
There are some reasons I'm writing about that song today (again). Also because that my dog is 17 years old, with many heatlh issues, and I know that not many days left.. But the main reason is the song itself. When 'Cherish' was released David told in newspapers articles that he'd written 'Ricky's Tune' with his dog in mind .DC : 'Ricky's Tune is my only composition on the album. I recorded it not because it's a particulary good song, but because it's dedicated to a dog I used to have. The dog died. It was the first time I'd written something alone.' (Hit Parader Magazine, November 1972) When in late 1969 David with his school friend Sam Hyman rented a small house at Laurel Canyon, they moved there with two dogs : David's dog - Sam, and Sam's dog - Hashish. DC raised Sam from a puppy. He changed his name to Ricky, because of that other Sam on the house. They were real friends, a boy and his dog, who was much more than just a

Empire Pool. March 16,17,18, 1973

Image
The Empire Pool, built in 1934 ..yes, originally housed a swimming pool. In 1978 the Empire Pool was renamed Wembley Arena. Currently is known as OVO Arena Wembley. It's an INDOOR arena adjacent to Wembley Stadium in London. 10 000 seat in the 70s (now 12k). Everybody performed there, The Beatles 4 times, some very memorable concerts, and David Cassidy set notable attendance record during one weekend in March 1973. He sold out a record 6 shows in 3 days. 60 000 fans. It was a kind of a generational experience, everybody knew that they witnessed something special, a lot of articles, a documentary 'Weekend At Wembley', and so many times I read fans memories, each starting with such a statement :'I saw David at Wembley in 1973..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep42l7CacCY Of course, I've written about it many times, what can I add except my disbelief that it was 49 years ago.Two my very close friends saw DC at Wembley in 1973, and we talk about it from time to tim

David Cassidy, a Songwriter. Love Is All That You Ever Needed

Image
It's not a mistake.. I've written many times how fabulous, unique singer David Cassidy was. How an outstanding live performer. About his acting career. The kind of a man he was. About his struggles, ups and downs. His fans, in the past and what are we do everyday for his legacy. But I think I haven't written enough about David Cassidy a songwriter. And what a shame he didn't write more. The people he worked with during TPF's years, creme de la creme of the LA session musicians, absolutely the best, many of them were also known music producers and songwriters. Those great professionals genuinely liked that kid, David Cassidy. They appreciated his talent, they wanted to do everything to help him, to teach him. And DC was a very quick learner and he could use the things he was taught. It was like going to the best music academy. And very quickly, in spite of being very busy, he started writing songs himself. DC : 'During the four years I was recording The Partridg

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do / Neil Sedaka, Howard Greenfield

Image
Neil Sedaka has birthday today. Born in 1937, in New York. 'Breaking Up Is Hard To Do' was his great number 1 hit in 1962, A real pop classic. A woldwide hit. An evergreen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbad22CKlB4 Of course I knew that song in the 70s, when I was a teen ..but at the time I thought Neil Sedaka was someone from another  era, very old and forgotten, and you know..I wasn't interested in such music. And I had no idea about The Partridge Family's cover of course.  Many years passed, and around 2010 I rediscovered Neil Sedaka. It's a little bit complicated and not many people know about it, but it was because of Neil and his album called 'Solitaire', that in 1972 one of my favourite bands was formed - 10cc. Neil Sedaka recorded that album in the famous Strawberry Studios, in Stockport, England. And he recorded it with the future 10cc members (they worked there, and Eric Stewart was a co-founder and co-owner of Strawberry Studios). The album was

I'm writing a new synopsis (btw not many left). Season 3, Episode 22, 'The Partridge Connection'. First aired on March 6th, 1973 (David was already in Europe). A very interesting episode. 1. Make-up. As DC wrote himself : 'At 23, my face caked in 3 layers of make-up. I made less convincing teenager than ever'. He looked gorgeous as always, but yes, mountains of foundation, an eyeliner etc. 2. The theme of that episode - stealing and the influence of friends. Of course stealing is very common at that age (and don't tell me it's not true). I know, I remember how it was to be a teen, (and I'm a mother and a former teacher). David also wrote about it in his autobiography, those bicycles he ..took when he was 13. 'I'd always return them or I couldn't have lived with myself. Stealing wasn't really a part of my life. It was more that if I saw a rule of any sort, I'd think, - Let's see how can I break this? Or bend this?  Being told not t

What a month, so full of memories of old concerts, in the USA, Europe and Australia, of seeing David Cassidy on stage, still it means so much for many. My very close friend Doreen : ''I can tell you even now all these years later just thinking about that concert in 1973 (Wembley) I can feel that excitement." Yes.. those memories are bitter-sweet, and we keep asking ourselves is it possible that it was 50 or 49 or 48 years ago ?? Even that last one, already 5 years passed, and BB.King's Blues Club doesn't exist anymore. So many halls and even stadiums where DC performed have been demolished, some of them many years ago. Enough. We remember and for the fans it was just only a moment ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pc0tkLFVhs So to the day, on March 11, 1973 David played his great concert in Rotterdam, it was Sunday, and next day he arrived in Britain.. And instead of Manchester, he landed in Luton. At the time no one knew where DC had stayed. That top secret pl

The exctiement started much earlier. Lowell Sun (USA) January 26, 1973 : 'Scotland Yard, not exactly England's most trendy institution, is showing an interest in rock music - because an overwhelming number of tickets countefellers are showing an interest in David Cassidy (..) Despite the fact that tickets  to the tour concerts set for March 17 and 18 at Wembley are available only through mail application, kids who can't resist the bargain, or who want to avoid the long trip to Manchester to buy tickets in the box office, are falling pray to tickets countefellers..' DC arrived in Germany at the beginning of March 1973. He attended the Radio Luxembourg Golden Lion Award in Dortmund, played a concert in Hamburg, was in Paris ( for a tv show), played a concert in Antwerp (Belgium) , but the next two gigs in Germany  were cancelled because of poor ticket sales. DC : 'Not that I worried much about that with the screams ringing in my ears every night and my roadies having

On Broadway / Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil, Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller

What can I say..Only that life is full of surprises, that I know nothing and that I've fallen in love today again with David Cassidy of course. Just don't know where to start. Maybe with the song and truly speaking so many artists have recorded it, at last I've decided that the most famous version will be the best. George Benson's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ef0kThw5VY Wonderful..And now the surprise. I've known that song for years, but I had no idea who wrote it. The first version by.. Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. Yes, I've written about them many times, the authors of 'I'm On The Road', 'Walking In The Rain' or 'Looking Through The Eyes Of Love' to name a few TPF's songs.. But what David has to do with 'On Broadway'..(Of course it would have been a perfect song for him) I've been asked to do a set list for David's concert audio. This is something what I do from time to time, it's very needed kind of job,
