Preyin' On My Mind / David Cassidy, Kim Carnes & Dave Ellingson

Image
October, the month we write a lot about the David Cassidy's album, 'Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes'. The first truly his own. David Cassidy : 'It's a piece of me - my whole life is in that album, and all the dreams I've ever had, if people don't like it they don't like me.' A lot of people fell for DC, became long life fans, after listening to that record, I've read such statements many times.. Released in October 1973, 49 years ago, the most successful DC's album in the UK. The single from it, 'Daydreamer/Puppy Song became nr 1 on October 21st  (for 3 weeks). I've checked the Official Charts, so on that day it looked like that : 1. David Cassidy, 'Daydreamer/Puppy Song, 2. Simon Park Orchestra, 'Eye Level', 3. Slade, 'My Friend Stan', 4. David Bowie, 'Sorrow', 5. Status Quo, 'Caroline', 6. Elton John, 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road'... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0mrYzW6iRM But I

Some Kind Of a Summer / Dave Ellingson

Image
I've been checking news from Florida a lot, I have not only some FB friends who live there, but also someone I know personally. My best friend Lucy's (we met at school) older daughter lives in Florida. She has 3 young kids, a husband, a very big dog and a very old cat. They've stayed at their house, everything is ok, it wasn't so bad where they live. They are lucky. But it's not the end.. So I've spent some time with the map of the USA, (I always loved geography and I collect guides (books) and maps) and it made me think about my big adventure, my trip to America in 2019. I owe it only to David Cassidy. So the song, everything started with it.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IasELb7iHo Just wonderful, DC's singing and of course the music and the lyrics. Dave Ellingson : 'I got the idea for the song "Some Kind Of Summer' while Kim and I were driving back to Los Angeles from San Francisco in the summer. It was a road song. David did a great job

said Craig J. Snider at the end of The Last Session. February 2018, New York City, they were listening to the final version of 'Wish You Were Here' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00eV8n-LtQY I've thought about his words in the morning while checking how our petition is going. 1111 signatures, after I don't know how many months, and not all people who have signed are fans. Like some members of my family, sure they know a lot about DC, they've had to read my book, and even know and like David's songs, but they are not his real fans. We work so hard every day, we write about David on social media, make videos, share info..we keep this flame burning (so to speak). 1111. And  several hours later the same, 1111.  Let's listen to young David Cassidy's voice, so fabulous, and one in a kind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OYoOPW4fn4 I've been thinking about the Craig's words today, but couldn't remember exactly what he said, so in the afternoon jus

But Coudn't Pronounce'. The Partridge Family, Season 3, Episode 20. And 14 others.  The scripts wrote by Dale McRaven, who died on September 5 at the age of 83. It was just confirmed by his son David, and I've got some articles via Google alerts, each one starts with : 'Dale McRaven, creator of Perfect Strangers and Mork & Mindy dies..'. I've never heard about or seen those tv shows. For me Dale McRaven was one of the people who created TPF, and the man who cured Susan Dey from anorexia. And to my astonishment I've been thinking about him a lot today. Maybe a song, from one of the episodes Dale McRaven not only wrote a script for, but also produced, 'Days Of Acne And Roses'. Wonderful, funny and smart script, and with one of my favourite TPF's song.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUewuhj8dPU Besides those two, Dale McRaven wrote scripts for many of the most memorable episodes, eg : 'The Last of Howard', 'None But the Onely',

You Don't Have To Tell Me / Tony Romeo

52 years ago the first episode of TPF was aired. I think we should stop writing those dates and number of years, they look scary, for us everything was just only a moment ago, and we watch those episodes and listen to that wonderful music over and over again. As we know from the DC autobiography, he watched the first episode at his Laurel Canyon house with Sharon Lee, the editor of Tiger Beat. Of course it was a 'suggestion' from the studio. Later he didn't have time to watch the show because he  usually played concerts on Friday nights. 2 years ago on the 50th anniversary, John Arehart made an extraordinary video, I just can't find words to describe it..the fragments he chose, the editing, it obviously took a lot of time and it was done with such love and outstanding knowledge of the subject (if I can put it this way). And the music. Wonderful, timeless songs. Forget that hateful label, 'bubble gum music'. Those songs are pop classic. Thank you  John Arehart. Y

Sound Magazine. The David Cassidy's Great Album. Part 1

And yes, I know it was recorded by The Partridge Family. Recently I found out that some fans take my words very literally, so.. 51 years ago, in September 1971 this extraordinary album peaked at # 9 on the Billboard 100 chart, and stayed there for 35 weeks. The single from it, 'I Woke Up In Love This Morning / Twenty-Four Hours A Day' was also a hit, peaked at #13. The song from the side B has a special place in my heart. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1cfYEviQVE All the songs with hit potential, I've read only today that it was originally titled 'The New Partridge Family Album', but was renamed just prior to release. It should have had quite another title, maybe, 'The Real And Fabulous David Cassidy'. I'm joking, but it was the first album with the DC's real voice. David Cassidy : 'In his opinion (Wes Farrell's) my voice had too much power. He wanted my voice to sound light and young and airy. He didn't want any character in it. (..) W

September 21st, 1985

It was Saturday, and in the evening David Cassidy played his first concert in the UK. The first one after 11 years. The previous one took place in Manchester, on May 28th, 1974. Manchester City Football Ground. The last song was Bob Dylan's, 'It's All Over Now, Baby Blue'. Such a great and meaningful choice. How I wish I could have heard David singing it. Recently my FB friend, Krysia Jenkins has told me that she remembers David performing that song in Manchester. "Forget the dead you left. They will not follow you. Strike another match, go start anew' (Bob Dylan). But we don't have a tape with this last song from 1974. Instead let's listen to 'CC Rider' from 'Cassidy Live!' album, David also played it in Manchester. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy2pxP9Y5Do&list=OLAK5uy_kgz4HDaXaqTou-P6XemFpJK3uj-DDsJYg&index=11 But let's return to that evening 37 years ago. The beginning of the David Cassidy UK Tour. 20 concerts, 21 were

Sunshine / Wes Farrell, Danny Janssen, Bobby Hart

It wasn't easy to find a right title for today's entry. 'Being Together' or 'Together We Better',  I've used those songs as titles many times. But 'Sunshine' is perfect. Love & Light. Friendship. And sunshine. Because of David.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er3mY-lWdlA What an extraordinary singer he was. He could make always something special, truly magical of every song he was to sing on the set of The Partridge Family. Whatever he thought about them.  This is something  I really love about my blog. The things I learn while writing it, the things not only about DC. About the music I didn't have a chance listening to when Poland was a communist country, in the 70s and 80s, about the pop culture in general, and first of all it's so moving that  many wonderful people, the DC's fans help me to write this blog. So many times when I have problems with a new entry, or I can't find info, or simply I have no new ideas, there is always

Keeping Our Love Alive / Richard Supa

The fans got this song (and another one) from David Cassidy's second wife, Meryl Tanz. You can't find a lot of info about them, and those songs are not on the list on the DC Official Website (I don't know why). Have no idea who wrote them. All credits go to Meryl Ann Tanz. The songs were recorded in 1982, in Nashville, and released in 2019 by Meryl Tanz. We can find two notes about those recordings on the website, in 'In Print' section. So on September 18, 1982, CashBox Magazine "..Also in Nashville has been David Cassidy of Partridge Family fame, returning from a six-year hiatus from recording to work on a new LP at Sound Emporium with Larry Butler producing.'  On January 27, 1983, on The Lethbridge Herald: "David Cassidy just completed a country-and western vocal album in Nashville.'. Larry Butler was (he died in 2012 ), a known country music producer, songwriter and pianist. He worked with Kenny Rogers. So.."Keeping Our Love Alive) https://

But first, long live Lyn from Australia. this wonderful, brave lady who single-handedly reminded Australians of David Cassidy. It needed so much courage, I don't think I dared to do such a thing. That episode of Hard Quiz, with Lyn, has been just repeated as one of the highest rating show on SBS TV. It was watched so far by.. 467000 people. Wonderful, amazing achievement, we are so grateful, and so proud of you. xxx https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2ZDzb0ibbk Laurie Eby, my very good FB friend. has written a comment about my latest blog. The info that "One Of Those Nights (Yes Love) peaked at nr 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was much higher on The Adult Contemporary Chart. Number 2. She wrote : "I agree that it's one of the best pop songs of the 1970s", and, "Adult Contemporary - there goes the 'bubblegum pop' label," And last but not least, Laurie wrote that her older sister, and her friends, at the time in their late teens, that they'd

It's impossible not to think about and listen to that song when being by the sea..and I listen to this Tony Romeo's, Mike Melvoin's and David Cassidy's masterpiece every day while on this holiday. https://youtu.be/6ca5PvKMQek It was a hit, in January 1972, number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, and number 2 on the Adult Contemporary Chart, it was also a hit in Canada, the UK, and Australia. I can't remember ever hearing this song on the Polish radio, as it was never existed. I've discovered it only when David Cassidy died..What a shame, it should have been remembered as one of the best pop songs from  the early 70s. A perfect trio, The Songwriter, The Arranger and of course The Singer. And you don't have to know English to hear that longing, hope, anticipation, joy and..fear. DC knew what he was singing about. And his young voice..it was magic. I'm so happy they met many years later, David and Mike, to record this song again.. 'It's One of Those Nig

So Much Wasted Time..

Image
Or not.. This is the first time I write sth while on holiday, but there is an excellent WiFi, and it's just impossible to go outside between noon and 4pm..it's not that I'm bored, no..but old habits die hard. I listen to DC on the beach, what a wonderful experience, and I love everything he ever recorded.. You can't not think about time while by the sea. It was here millions of years ago, and we are just 'dust in the wind', only for a moment. But I also think about the time which has passed since November 21st 2017.. was this time wasted? Have we done everything what was possible for the DC legacy? Of course there are some outstanding achievements, the Las Vegas Star ( a temporary or not, it doesn't matter), the fact that fans have met bc of him, Louise Poynton's fabulous book, a plaque at Heathrow or the Wembley Arena, benches..Saratoga Springs, more plaques, I Think  I Love You Animal Foundation, podcasts, but since I've gone on holiday just one mo

'A New David Cassidy..'

Image
We have been reading something like that since..truly speaking since DC resigned from his teen idol status in 1974. Of course, we fans know it's impossible. There was only one David Cassidy and not just because how he looked... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sD0ZSyW1YU Perfection, everything about him, his beauty and sex-appeal. His charm and his style. There was also DC a very complex man and first of all David Cassidy a great, underrated singer. But when someone writes - 'Such and such is a new DC' - that person thinks about David as he was 50 years ago, a worshipped teen idol. A lot was written about Zac Efron being a new DC, when he was on High School Musical. Born in 1987, he started his career in a musical theatre, later was tv, and the turning point of his career of course High SM, premiered on the Disney Channel in January 2006. David was asked many times what he'd thought about the young actor. http://www.davidcassidy.com/fansite/InPrintPages/Web2008Nov9.html

Rosa's Cantina / David Cassidy, Bryan Garofalo

The RCA albums..so wonderful and still so unknown. There are some DC fans who have no idea about them. Of course there are  reasons for it. This is also his 'fault'. So much hard work, so many hopes and in the end ..nothing. The time after The World Tour was very difficult for David Cassidy. So later, many times  when he was asked about those years, 1974-1977, he used to say that he hadn't done anything at all..As if he didn't released those albums.. 'The years from my retirement in May 1974, at the age of 24, up to about 1980 were the darkest I've ever known. (..) I couldn't sleep and there was no joy to being awake, so I tried to dull my existence one way or another. The clean-living hard-working vegetarian turned into this guy who was willing to try anything to take him outside of himself, I didn't care'. And he wrote about the RCA records : ' It was a very dark period for me, so I've tended to disconnect myself from that material.' (D

50 Years Ago..in the UK

Image
50 years..half a century ago (it looks scary), David Cassidy had his first number 1 in the UK.  It was obvious since February 1972 when he first came to London, that it would happen sooner or later. The young kids in the UK just loved David. There were riots outside the BBC demading the return of The Partridge Family.  We can read in Record Mirror on the 1st of April 1972 issue : "David Cassidy of the Partridge Family made his solo single debut last Friday with 'Could It Be Forever' composed by Wes Farrell and Danny Janssen. The flipside written by Terry Kirkman is 'Cherish' and has been released in response to request by British fans . The single is contained in a special four-colour printed bag featuring a photograph of Cassidy' It was on the first of April, and just a few days later, on April 8, that single achieved number 2 on the UK charts and stayed there for 17 weeks.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FsPFzK6X4g&t=66s What a single, both songs are ti

Living A Lie / David Cassidy, Gerry Beckley

Image
Gerry Beckley will be 70 soon, on September 12th. Born in Texas, had an American father, an English mother, he met Dewey Bunnell and Dan Peek at high school in London. They formed a band, 'America', and in 1972 when Gerry was just 20 they had two world - wide hits, wrote by Beckley, 'I Need You', and by Dewey Bunnell, 'A Horse With No Name'. It happened that the second song was the first ever original, western single I had in my hands and listened to. I think it was in 1974.  You can't imagine what it meant for a poor girl from a communist country behind the Iron Curtain. And I fell in love with 'A Horse With No Name'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocLCLMZO6dc They were friends for a while, David Cassidy and Gerry, Dewey and Dan, DC even once sang with them 'A Horse With No Name' on stage, they invited him during the America's concert in Hawaii. Gerry and Dewey sang on the DC's RCA albums, David did backing vocals on one of the Amer

A fragment from a very known poem, wrote and published in 1934 by Clare Harner (btw for many years someone else was thought to be the author). She wrote it after her brother died..'Do not stand at my grave and cry..' I've wanted to write about something optimistic today, but during my evening walk it's been such an amazing weather, something has changed. Rather chilly, sunny but you can feel autumn is very near, and I have thought about this poem...'I'm the gentle, autumn rain..' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wy6cLVQUTUU David Cassidy's ashes were scattered at 10am Eastern time at Saratoga Race Course. on that day, four years ago. Of course we know why, he always felt there at home, happy and free. I think it was  a blessing for DC to have such a place where he was just a member of a community. In his professional life he had always so many responsibilities, and it was a burden for him. He didn't want to be a role model when he was a teen idol,
