The Bubblegum Label

But first, long live Lyn from Australia. this wonderful, brave lady who single-handedly reminded Australians of David Cassidy. It needed so much courage, I don't think I dared to do such a thing. That episode of Hard Quiz, with Lyn, has been just repeated as one of the highest rating show on SBS TV. It was watched so far by..467000 people. Wonderful, amazing achievement, we are so grateful, and so proud of you. xxx

Laurie Eby, my very good FB friend. has written a comment about my latest blog. The info that "One Of Those Nights (Yes Love) peaked at nr 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was much higher on The Adult Contemporary Chart. Number 2. She wrote :

"I agree that it's one of the best pop songs of the 1970s", and, "Adult Contemporary - there goes the 'bubblegum pop' label," And last but not least, Laurie wrote that her older sister, and her friends, at the time in their late teens, that they'd loved David's music.

Yes, of course, that unfair, unjust label. Bubblegum music. According to Wikipedia :' is a pop music in a catchy and upbeat style that is considered disposable, contrived, or marketed for children and adolescents'. 'Sugar, Sugar' is an example of bubblegum music..But how can you say that eg this song belongs to the same category as The Archies' hit ????

Have you noticed what was written at the bottom of that video ? "Sometimes, you can find some serious funk in places you never would think to look.." Yes, who would have listened to that bubblegum music singer, David Cassidy..a singer for little girls..

  1. Yes, I have often heard that the Partridge Family's and David's music were often called Bubblegum Music. Yes, we all (me, anyway), or many of us have loved David's and the Partridge Family's Bubblegum music since we were in, or before, our teens. Now I'm in my 60's, and I still love David, his music, and the Partridge Family's Bubblegum music! Thank you again, Weronika, for sharing this, and for your wonderful blog! Long live David, his music, the Partridge Family, and Bubblegum music!
