"The Original Or A Cover?"

I suscribe Brad Kyle's 'Front Row And Backstage'. Wonderful articles about music, not only from the 70s, about inspirations and connections, those articles are not for everybody, there is very detailed info, for me it's a fascinating read and I learn a lot. And Brad Kyle also writes about David Cassidy. Quite often. He interviewed him being just 20 years old, in 1975.

In the article called Ned Doheny 'Get It Up For Love' + Covers' we can read about DC's version of that song, "Propelled by acoustic guitar and percussion, David uses his distinctive voice to lift his cover above many others". Very nice and so true.

Brad Kyle also has written a lot about Clive Davis and how Arista's boss decided that Barry Manilow would be "a new star for America" and how after, "hearing Cassidy's version ('I Write The Songs') had Manilow record it."

Brad Kyle, "It's worth appreciating David's version, as it exists in a completely different (and much more sublime) universe than Barry's  typically bombastic hit cover. Along with a Beach Boy (Johnston) co-producing his own song (and providing ethereal electric piano), joining Dave and Bruce in the studio, background-singing (which Johnston arranged) are Beach Boy Carl Wilson, Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell of America, Richie Furay of Buffalo Springfield and Poco, with Bill House on guitar." I've fallen in love with Brad Kyle after reading this.

I'm so proud that a comment I've once written about Tandym Almer and his connection with DC, became an inspiration for Brad Kyle and this wonderful and moving article. And of course Louise Poynton, who interviewed Brad Kyle for her podcast also shared with him a lot of information about David.

And today Brad Kyle at the beginning of the new entry has written, "The original or a cover? Like all things musical, it's subjective, and emotions can play a part...heck, they SHOULD!", and of course I've thought about David and some of the covers he did..But I'll write about them next time..
