David And..David

What a nice surprise on the first day of this new year, 2024. A new video, and what's more from 1981. There are just a few DC's guest appearances from 1981 on the website, and in most cases we have only screenshots. So it's really extraordinary, poor David, at the time he no longer had the money earned through his hard work, but only terrible debts, and his marriage with Kay was only on paper.

2 Davids. This precious name, we have a Polish version of it, but it sounds different and it's not very popular. Every year on the first day I write about the song called 'January' and those two Davids.

David Paton, just a little bit older than DC, born in Edinburgh in October 1949, at the end of the 60s was a member of ..Bay City Rollers, but never recorded with the group. In 1973 he was a co-founder of Pilot, their first album was produced by Alan Parsons, and I loved their first hit, wrote by David Paton and Billy Lyall. It was released in Europe in September 1974, and a year later in the USA,  it became #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. I had a weak spot for David Paton.

Very nice, and Stuart Tosh on drums, later he played with 10cc (I'm a fan).

David Paton wasn't just another pretty boy, after Pilot he played on two first Kate Bush' albums, recorded and toured with Elton John and played on many Alan Parsons Projects' albums.

'January' was the second's Pilot's hit, the band's sole number 1 in the UK, in January and February of 1975. But the song wasn't a hit in the USA. 'January' was written by David Paton, and as it was with 'Magic', his wife was an inspiration.

David Cassidy recorded the song for his second RCA album, 'Home Is Where The Heart Is', released in March 1976. His cover is such delight, fabulous, more rock and edgy than the original, and David's voice..there is magic in his cover

Thanks to Doreen Walker we can read what DC wrote about 'January', she made for us transcript of the liner notes written in the David's own (very difficult to read) handwriting. It's a wonderful, one in a kind, fascinating read.
