David Cassidy In ..German

On this day, January 27, in 1993, the very special episode of German-Austrian TV series, 'Ein Schloß am Wörthersee' (A Castle at Lake Worther) was first aired. It was special because David Cassidy guest starred on it.

It was aired on RTL, and actually I could have watched it if I had known, because at the time we had a satelite TV and there were a lot of German programs available for us, but I only watched sports events on them. On German TV all foreign films were dubbed and without subtitles. The same was at cinemas. I know, I was in Germany in 1985, and my dear friend Sabine took me twice to cinema, and it was surreal experience. Especially watching James Stewart speaking German in 'The Spirit of St. Louis'. The German actor who voiced Stewart had almost the same voice.. Amazing.

Anyway 'Ein Schloß am Wörthersee' was for German speaking countries, and it was very popular series in the early 90s. David guest starring was something special, just a few American stars appeared on it, besides DC (and Sue Shifrin) also Larry Hagman and Linda Gray. We don't have this episode on the website, and there are only fragments on YT, so let's watch David's interview for German TV. He was talking about his career and his role in that German soap opera.

Poor David, he looked a little bit embarrassed standing with the rest of the cast. Of course he did it for money. Thanks to "Time' musical he paid his debts, but that was all. He recorded 2 great albums in the early 90s, and of course 'Lyin' To Myself' was a hit, but he hoped for more, it wasn't the comeback he'd dreamt about. 'Didn't You Used To Be' was a great album too, new songs, mature beautiful lyrics, David's voice and his vocal range simply outstanding, but that album didn't chart anywhere. What a shame.

So 1992 was a difficult year. He felt he had so much to offer, still young and so handsome, full of energy,  he wanted to be successful again. It was so close..And he had a family to support..

'Ein Schloß am Wörthersee' was filmed in July 1992 in Austria, and in August David was playing concerts again, in the USA, as the Beach Boys' support. It was an opportunity for him to perform for much bigger audience than in 1991. He usually played 10 songs, old and new, and he was great. One music critic wrote, "Cassidy's performance, along with his stage presence, equalled The Beach Boys', and a few times after he finished his performance, his old friends Bruce Johnston and Carl Wilson asked him to stay and play with them together..

Let's watch this wonderful interview from August 3, 1992. David discussed his new CD and the upcoming tour with The Beach Boys. It was such a pleasure taking these screenshots for the website
