"It wasn't supposed to end this way..'
Kim Carnes' words after David Cassidy died. And : 'David had the best laugh, the best smile and the biggest heart'.
She has birthday today, this wonderful, beautiful woman. A girl from California, born in 1945, a singer and a songwriter. I first heard about Kim in the 80s when she had an enormous world success with 'Betty Davis Eyes'. It was even a hit in Poland, in 1981 we had strike after strike, we fought with communist regime, and there were only empty shelves in our shops, but I remember the song was played on our radio. It was so different, dark and mysterious, a great tune and that amazing voice. I later saw how she looked ..That wonderful, blond hair, a woman with class. I always wanted to look like that..

She was really successful and even took part in one of the most famous recordings in the history of pop music. "We Are The World' was recorded in January 1985 and Kim was there too, along some of the most important and greatest American artists. I haven't listened to it or watched for many years, only today for Kim..but this is just amazing, a great song. And we were young and naive and thought that one song could change the world..

I wonder what David had thought about his former backing singer's success. In 1981 he was broke, a former teen idol without any job really, he was in debts and his marriage a history. Of course Kim started her career in the 60s, and she wasn't just a backing singer, with her husband Dave Ellingson they performed as a support act, before the DC's concerts in the 70s, they wrote songs together and first of all they were very good friends..You can read very moving Kim's memories about David, published on November 22, 2017.
