Some Kind Of A Summer / Dave Ellingson

The songs David Cassidy chose for 'Then And Now' album. Those the most important in his career. What a shame only 'Daydreamer' from "Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes', and from his RCA albums only 'I Write The Songs'. What a shame he didn't record again 'Junked Heart Blues' or..'Rosa's Cantina', that perfect summer song. I can't resist to watch this video..

Or maybe it's better that 50 year old David didn't record it again.. Those young, wonderful musicians had a lot of fun recording it in 1976, and we can still hear after so many years how they enjoyed that experience. The perfect moment in their lives for such a song.

But I'm so glad that he made a new 'Some Kind Of A Summer' version. Dave Ellingson :'I got the idea for the song, 'Some Kind Of Summer while Kim and I were driving back to Los Angeles from San Francisco in the summer (a wonderful experience, I was lucky to drive the same way in April 2019). We were visiting the promotion man working on her first album. It was a road song. David did a great job with the song, We were thrilled that he cut it.' (David Cassidy: Could It Be Forever?, 2007)

The song was recorded for the second David's solo album, 'Rock Me Baby', in 1972. A single - I Am a Clown/ Some Kind Of a Summer peaked at number 3 in the UK, on the 24th March, 1973. David Cassidy  appeared on The Top Of The Pops (without the audience of course).

Just breathtaking..The way he looked and the song itself and his interpretation. Like always he made his own a song wrote by someone else. In that case it was a close friend's song, but 'Some Kind of a Summer'..how to put it..it belongs to David Cassidy. So bitter-sweet, another love story without good ending. His own personal story, but also so universal..

David must have liked that song too. He performed it during his World Tour in 1974 (it's on 'Cassidy Live!') and he recorded it again for 'Then And Now' in 2001. And he sang it with such tenderness..

DC knew how the UK's fans loved 'Some Kind of a Summer'. He performed it during 'This Could Be The Night Tour' in 2008. Also in London.
