David Cassidy In Las Vegas

I've been listening to DC's radio interviews for a while, the 70s, 80s, 90s.with each decade more recordings and better quality, and suddenly such  a disappointment - not a single interview from 1996 , 1997 also 1999, and I was hoping for some extra stories about EFX.. There is an interview from April 1998, WKQ in Detroit, the host - Danny Bonaduce. He asked DC - 'Why do you look 10 years younger than I?'. And also why David recorded a new album ('Old Trick, New Dog) at all, him being so busy, earning a lot of money (Danny said that DC got $ 65 000 a week) and having a wife and a son..? It's a great interview and you MUST listen to it from the minute 12, DC was amazing..

The next interview is from 2000 when David was starring At The Copa, but it was short one, he answered some questions from fans, and was asked about a possible tour in the UK. And that's all, only 2 existing interviews from 2001, really a lot is missing..

What about articles on EFX? . The show was written about on www.lasvegassun.com..Nothing new I'm afraid, but there are some no fans who read my blog so some fragments  on EFX :

1. about.MGM's Grand Theatre (where EFX was performed) - '1700- seat Grand Theatre, which reportedly suck up enough electricity to power 1440 homes, and features a sound system that shakes the seats' (July21, 1997)

2. 'You don't see EFX for it's plot development, you go for the effects, naturally. The show bills itself as having 250 of them (..) Cassidy is at his best breaking away from the script and ad-libbing with the audience member who serves as his love object of the evening.' (May22, 1998)

'Wisely Cassidy isn't forced to shoulder all of the weight of the newly crafted production. Where the former Partridge sibling truly does shine is in his ability to connect with the audience." (Dec31,1996. Cicago Tribune

'..the prospect of the evening's upcoming two, 90- minute performances of singing, dancing, leaping about and just generally keeping your balance on a flying soucer.(..) Cassidy proves that his talents as a showman are no illusion..(..)  Cassidy says (about changes in EFX) - 'I pushed, very heavily on the singin', clappin'- your hand sorts of groovin' having a rythm and blues kind of gospel feel in some of it.''(May25, 1997, Chicago Tribune)

'After a phenomenally succesful two-year run - during which he was named Las Vegas' best singer as best as the city's best all around entertainer - David Cassidy announced that he will leave the EFX show..'(October7, 1980)

I was in Las Vegas in 2019, and I wrote about it in January 2021, one of my earliest post..It was an incredible experience, being there, I left my group for a day, I wanted to be alone walking in David Cassidy's footsteps. This is a fragment of that entry:

'The MGM was about 4km from my hotel, and it was a great walk.I left my hotel very early, it wasn't easy, because the ground floor of Circus Circus Hotel&Casino is a big underground city in itself, full of slot machines, restaurants, shops. I stopped many times , never saw anything like this.. some people looked like they didn't know there was a real world outside..It took me about 30 minutes to get to the exit. Wow..what a place in the middle of a desert, surrounded by mountain ranges on all sides. Las Vegas was just coming to life, not so many people on the street, but the sun was shining, the music was playing, the fountains were working, beautiful girls invited passers-by for evening shows, and I was walking up and down the stairs, admiring  hotels on my way, talking with strangers and thinking how David Cassidy (and his family) could have felt there. Of course Las Vegas is not just the Las Vegas Boulevard, for David it was only his workplace, he lived in a big house in the residential area..and it's difficult to believe , but there are over 60 parks in that strange city.

At last, I made it. MGM, nearly 7000 rooms, can you believe it? I sat at the foot of the statue of Leo, MGM lion, put my headphones on and started listening ..Let It Shine..River In Time..The Intergalactic Circus..Of course David Cassidy earned a lot of money ..but was he happy here? In that artificial world? Doing the same show twice every evening. Healthy or unhealthy. I enjoyed my stay in Las Vegas very much. But I was there only for two days..Let him shine...'
