The Partridge Family Season 4

Season 4 , aired from September 15, 1973 to March 23, 1974 (btw that day DC on his World Tour arrived in Osaka )..The last and the least popular TPF's season, but I like it very much. There are some reasons..

1. The music. Most songs from that season appeared on the last TPF album, 'Bulletin Board', (recording dates July 25, 26 and September 4, 5); the abum was released October 1973, the same time as DC's third solo album 'Dreams Are Nuthin' More Than Wishes'. It was very symbolic, 'Bulletin Board' wasn't selling well, "Dreams' very well, but not in America. David Cassidy's career in his native country was over, he played his last concert there in October 1972. 'Bulletin Board' is   not The Partridge  Family kind of music, lyrics..very adult, it's more like David Cassidy's solo album.

2. Season 4 is very strange, with one very unusual and memorable episode which was filmed outside the studio - 'The Last Of Howard'. Very uneven level of episodes, like everybody suddenly run out of ideas, sometimes even hard to watch, 'Maid In San Pueblo' or 'Miss Partridge, Teacher' . The last one is like from another tv series, not a sitcom. And there is Ricky of course, and everybody looks so happy when he sings..Yes, that season is full of surreal and sarcastic humor  and I love it , even if sometimes plots are risky like in that episode when Keith dates his own sister..

3. Guest stars..Just amazing..Margaret Hamilton ( 1902- 1985) (Reuben's mother), a true legend, stage, radio, tv and movie actress. The most known for two roles from..'The Wizard Of Oz', Miss Gulch who wanted to take Dorothy's dog and of course The Wicked Witch Of The West..In real life she was the opposite of the characters she played on screen. She was charming, friendly and very funny, adored by cast and crew alike. A former teacher, famous for her charity work for children and animals..

George Chakiris (Capitan Chuck Corwin, 96th episode) a great dancer , an actor and..very known jewelry designer..He got an Academy Award for his role in West Side Story, btw in that scene there is one other dancer who appeared on TPF's set (more than once)..I wonder if anyone will recognize.. her.

4. And of course David Cassidy. He stopped looking like a teen any more, on the contrary, with his very long hair and sex- appeal he looked  like a rock star who was on the set quite by accident. He had enough of being Keith, everybody knew  he was to leave..But DC was a true professional, never for a moment lowered the level of his acting..And he looked just.. breathtaking..and soo sexy..

Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing today's blog just to gossip about DC's private life, it's because I always admired that amazing woman, Kay Ann Lenz. She had birthday yesterday. 3 years younger than David, a few years older than a typical DC's fan.  In the 70s I heard quite a lot about Kay Lenz . She was very popular in Poland, like the rest of the cast of 'Rich Man, Poor Man'. That tv series was shown in my country I think in 1978, and everybody watched it, also a lot was written about the cast. So one day I read that Kay's husband was a former teen idol, David Cassidy. There was also a pic and I thought that it was just wonderful, I thought they were the most beautiful couple in the world. There was something very moving about Kay. They Said I Changed A Lot..

Let's first listen to something which was not released, why they didn't want David singing that song is a great mystery for me. Listening to his young, sincere, innocent and magical voice is one in a kind moving experience. 'I Just Hated Being In The Show..'

Last week someone posted a screenshot of the article from May 1974, unfortunately without the date or the name of the paper. Written by a popular journalist Roderick Gilchrist, I think it was Daily Express. We can read that this interview took place at London Weekend Television's Building, on the day before the DC's last concert in Manchester.  And David said, "I feel like the door to the cage has just been opened. And, any minute now I'm going to be able to fly right away from my prison.
