November 1970..

November, the  month so special for us, David Cassidy's fans all over the world. And not only because of the upcoming anniversary, btw it will be a very difficult day. Someone wrote a few days ago, 'it's surreal'. Yes, 5 years and we still can't come to terms with it.

Maybe a song.

November was always a very busy month for David Cassidy. A lot of memorable concerts, tv appearances, also as a guest star on many tv programmes, promo tours. Today I want to write about the November 52 years ago, November 1970. The month David became a star, and his song became number 1 on the Billboard chart. The first song he ever recorded.

He didn't play concerts at the time, but he was so busy, I don't think he watched the Partridge Family's episodes aired in November 1970. 'Danny And The Mob', 'But The Memory Lingers On', 'Did You Hear the One About Danny', 'Go Directly To Jail'. Danny..those episodes were filmed much earlier, and in November 1970 everybody knew that Danny wasn't the most important..

So what DC was doing in November 1970? He was recording, songs for 'Up To Date' album. On November 12 and 13. A lot of publicity work (first of all with Shirley Jones), he was touring the big cities all over America. And all the time there were photo sessions and interviews for teen magazines.

November 1970 - '16' Magazine -DC on the cover and inside a lot of pics and the article -'Here Comes David Cassidy!, 'Fave' - on the cover Bobby Sherman and David with Susan, inside looks like the whole mag was about DC, his pics behind the scenes of his 'smash guest appearance on Bandstand', and a 'Letter from David', 'Flip' - DC on the cover with his dog, inside photo session called 'David Takes You Home', and a lot of pics, one with a caption, 'David, I Love You.'. Enough. I could go on and on. Tiger Beat, Teen Life..And there were also articles in national press. Interviews...

In October (we don't have the exact date ) DC appeared on Larry Kane Show and sang 'I Think I Love You' for the first time on tv

In November and December 1970 ITILY for 3 weeks was number 1 in the USA, became the best selling single of the year. #1 in Canada and Australia, # 2 in Ireland, # 4 South Africa, #5 New Zealand, only #18 in the UK. The real madness began. David had time only for work. No time for friends. At the end of November 1970 his school friend, Kevin Hunter died of overdose. It was a huge blow for David

DC: 'With Kevin's death, a chapter of my life closed (..) I was so shaken by Kevin's passing. He was such a talent and a true friend. I still think of him a lot. After Kevin's funeral, I focused on my work. No cigarettes, no pot, no drugs at all if I could help it. The work was the main thing. I was just going to work very hard. Just keep running, boy. Keep running..' ( David Cassidy : Could It Be Forever?, 2007)
