This song was first recorded in 1948 by Doye O'Dell, and very quickly a lot of different versions appeared, made by orchestras or country singers. 

Elvis recorded it in 1957 and made of that song a rock&roll holiday classic.

Many famous artists covered 'Blue Christmas'. But we are David Cassidy's fans, and he recorded this song twice. As a very young man, in 1971, at the time the reigning teen idol, and many years later, at the end of his long career.

The Partridge Family Christmas Card album was recorded on August 25, 26 and 28, and released in November of 1971. Music played by the best, Dennis Budimir, Louie Shelton, Max Bennett, Mike Melvoin, Hal Blaine. Backing vocals - Jackie Ward, John and Tom Bahler, Ron Hicklin. Produced by Wes Farrell. The number 1 selling Christmas album of 1971. Number 1 on the Billboard Special Christmas Album Sales Chart for 4 weeks.

Great pop Christmas songs recorded in the true Partridge Family's style. Masterfully played, great harmonies, and first of all wonderfully sung by 21 year old David Cassidy. Only one song was a new, original Christmas song, written by Tony Romeo, 'My Christmas Card To You'. This song should have been a classic, played everywhere at this time of  year. Great song and David sings it like he personally whished us Merry Christmas..

But let's return to Blue Christmas. I've been playing this song quite often recently, while wrapping presents and cleaning the house. This song stays with me..This Christmas will be different..Difficult even.

And David Cassidy and his Christmas memories ? Don't get me wrong, I'm not writing today's blog just to gossip about DC's private life, it's because I always admired that amazing woman, Kay Ann Lenz. Let's first listen to something which was not released, why they didn't want David singing that song is a great mystery for me. Listening to his young, sincere, innocent and magical voice is one in a kind moving experience. 'I Just Hated Being In The Show..'

Last week someone posted a screenshot of the article from May 1974, unfortunately without the date or the name of the paper. Written by a popular journalist Roderick Gilchrist, I think it was Daily Express. We can read that this interview took place at London Weekend Television's Building, on the day before the DC's last concert in Manchester.  And David said, "I feel like the door to the cage has just been opened. And, any minute now I'm going to be able to fly right away from my prison.
