Happy Birthday Susan Dey
David Cassidy and Susan Dey, that never ending story, we still love wondering what if..and why. From the start there were rumors of romance and Susan used to get letters telling her to leave David alone. It was so many years ago and we will never know how it really was, but of course it's none of our business, it's not our very private story, and somehow I'm sure that Susan Dey doesn't care what fans or the world in general think about David Cassidy and her.

We write a lot about the price DC paid for his stardom, and about Danny's difficult experiences. Susan Dey also was a victim of early fame and adulation. She had anorexia, it's called an eating disorder, but of course it's not just a disorder, it's a very serious illness, I don't need to write about it, and now we know better how to help to overcome it. But it was different in the early 70s, it was still a taboo, and she had to fight with it alone, without any help..Her weight dropped to 92 pounds, that's 41 kg. Scary.

She became an actress by accident really. Modelling was first mostly for fun, and to earn some money for college. Susan Dey became a role model for many teenage girls in the late 60s. She took part in one of the first campaign, called 'Getting To Know Yourself', encouraging girls to use tampons.
It's fascinating to watch how Susan Dey as Laurie Partridge kept changing on the set. At first Laurie was just a younger sister, Keith cared for her, felt responsible for her, but later there was differnt Laurie, strong and independent, ready to confront her older, not so smart, brother.

They all should have got Emmy Awards, or Golden Globs, the show is still great to watch, but it was just a sitcom for kids.
Susan Dey got Golden Glob for Best Actress in 1988. And the same year Kay Lenz got Emmy Award. And David in 1988? Just one tv role, playing Joey Mitchell, a former rock star, on Alfred Hitchcock Presents..Life.
For me Susan Dey was the perfect Jo March, in the very good TV adaptation of 'Little Women' made in 1978. With Meredith Baxter Birney as Mag..Great film to watch at this time of the year.
