The One And Only David Cassidy
I haven't planned it, but yesterday quite unexpectedly I watched TV film, 'Come On Get Happy : The Partridge Family'.
Great quality copy, published on YT about 3 weeks ago with the impressive number of views, now more than 32k.
I have written about this film a few times, but I have never really watched it. Just fragments. I couldn't stand that the actor who played David had such an awful wig, looked muscular and tall. The film was first aired in November 1999 on ABC, the story was told from Danny Bonaduce's viewpoint, and was narrated by him. The movie got mixed reviews, but quite a lot of critics found the film entertaining.
"The approach to the brief history of the ABC show is dryly ironic and just spoofy enough to be funny without wearing thin.(...) The tone is bemused and a little corny. It portrays David as a cynical pop star who wants to be a hard rocker and Susan as love-struck over Cassidy(...) It's a surprisingly entertaining Saturday night movie."

Of course everything is mixed up there, it's not a documentary, it's a low-budget TV production. You shouldn't look for the truth there. Running time is just 100 minutes. But yes, I've watched it without irritation. It was a great idea to add some songs from the era, that's for sure. The best in my opinion was Michael Chieffo who played Dave Madden. In general the acting was not bad.
Of course no one can expect that the actors playing in such films resamble real characters, real people. But I don't like how Susan was portrayed. Rodney Scott who played DC, was 21 at the time, and he was really handsome, I've seen his pics with short hair, and he looked much better than in this awful wig. I can also agree that sometimes David behaved like that. But the concerts scenes were awful, and music scenes in general. Rodney Scott was a pretty boy, but nothing more, and viewers who don't know the story certainly don't understand where all this hysteria came from.
David Cassidy was one in a kind. He wasn't tall and he wasn't muscular, on the contrary. He was prettier than most of his fans. His voice at that time was magical. He was charming and sexy. He was sweet but not naive. He was funny but also serious. He was a very complex man. Meredith Baxter has written about him, 'David could ignite hysteria by entering a room'.
