'Sometimes My Scenes Are Good..'

A fragment from the Tony Romeo's masterpiece. And David Cassidy's. Tony wrote a great song but it was David who made it so special. A song written for DC and..about him. It's always emotional to watch and listen to David singing 'I Am a Clown', in every decade. I've chosen his  performance from one of the Empire Pool's concerts, 50 years ago.

One in a kind performance combining his acting and singing skills. And showing the power he had..the level of excitement was incredible.

David Cassidy was an exceptional singer because he was also an actor. It's something which has taken me some time to truly understand, because I got to know first David Cassidy - a singer. I got to know his songs before I even watched one episode of The Partridge Family, or any other his TV or film appearances.

But of course he was primary an actor. Also in his private life.

Today we have another sad anniversary, Jack Cassidy died on this day, in 1976. In a fire.

Today Lanie Bray has shared with us a post from Classic Television Shows Group, with Jack's and DC's pics, both with moustache, and there was a lot of comments, mostly how much David was his father's son (if I can put it this way), also several people wrote that Jack was much better actor than David. And it's happened that only yesterday I saw again 'Police Story. A Chance To Live'.

It was a pure accident, I didn't want it, but somehow I couldn't stopped watching. Really good acting, even that some students looked mature, but it was common in the 70s films. Some faces known from The Partridge Family. Nice soundtrack. Wonderful cars..But first of all David was fantastic.

Making this tv movie was for DC a chance for a great comeback as an actor, but of course it wasn't easy for him, because of his own experiences with drugs and his school friend, Kevin Hunter's death of overdose.

I think that it's impossible to compare Jack and David as actors. Or singers. They were completely different. DC was very convincing as Police Officer Dan Shay. With his on-screen wife (btw they made a great couple with Dee Wallace), or other police officers he was completely different from the scenes with high school students, where he looked and behaved like one of them. There was also something in his acting difficult to put into words. A kind of sensitivity, vulnerability even. Sincerity and truth. We can find the same in his voice, in his songs. Jack Cassidy was a different actor and different human being..

The pic is a screenshot from '90 Minutes' tv show, aired on December 16, 1977. At the time DC was already working on the set of Police Story.
